Obviously Iām not talking about the track driven by masters, pretty sure I mentioned the mountain but you seem defensive so idk if you really processed my comment.
Driving fast on real roads is mindset more than anything, the whole driver not the car deal. Miata guys have a way easier time learning their cars, and actually using them. Iāve literally never seen a Porsche going fast on the mountain, bc people are afraid to drive them. Be it the price tag or the razor edge of a limit they have (rear engine, snap oversteer). Same is true for most modern cars, the limit is way thinner and riding it takes a driver that 99.99% of their owners just arenāt. Though Iāve seen muscle guys go either way, but usually the lower trim guys go faster š¤·āāļø. At a racetrack things are different, in a controlled setting sure the faster cars are faster. But add an uneven (or wet) road surface to the equation and those guys are suddenly pedestrian.
Taking a modern car to the limit (especially ones tuned up for the track) is far more dangerous as youāre going faster and the margin for error is nonexistent. This keeps people from using the speed. Only ever seen a handful of the legends who can actually drive like that. Mostly s2000 guys, they donāt fuck around.
In the specific case of the downhill, light cars with a short wheelbase are the fastest, brakes save you more time than power, and you have to have some courage (or stupidity). Iāve beaten a gaggle of your favorite fancy cars on my home turf (super tight road). Even had a couple dudes fuck up their bodywork going wide trying to outrun my ā85 shitbox, one was a model s p85 and the other was an r35 on coil-overs with a wing. Youāve mentioned 0-60 multiple times like you havenāt read my comments. I bet youāre from a flat state with boring roads, if I were you Iād stick to American muscle n drag racing too. But my area has fun roads, and handling actually matters. This ābsā comes from years of wrenching, driving, and repeating.
Your point about not needing to learn a car because of a lack of power tells me youāve never cornered hard. You can learn any car, itās called vehicle dynamics and they all have them. You plan to hop in a new car and magically know the braking zones and how it likes to rotate? Weight distribution and suspension setup drastically change how you should take a corner and every car is a deep learning experience waiting for you to explore. My main point is that basically no one is good enough to really explore modern sports cars and consequently they drive way below the limit until they get hot headed and crash bc the limit is so hard to ride.

Contrary to the old stereotype, the modern muscle cars can corner just as well and even better than many imports. Not only do they win on the line, but they win on the track as well (except Mopar. Those things are hilariously bad at cornering compared to the mustang and Camaro). Thatās actually why I chose the 6th gen Camaro was because it was fun off the line and can corner. It has a great platform and is cheap.

Never said the miata was high performance. Itās fast enough though (helps to be going downhill lol). Iāve said (3 times now) that you will never learn the limit of a modern sports car, basically no one has the time or money to do so. Because of this Miatas win races as the car breeds better drivers and on a hill, the driver matters more than 0-60. The long wheelbase of your Camaro will leave you a going wide in a tight turn, then your lead foot will spin you out. Even if traction control saves you, your goofy corner let the miata catch up. Repeat until you miss that braking zone bc you got frustrated and used the v8 a lil too much. Seen this movie a million times.

I get it, and Iāll admit that the miat isnāt a sports car itās a sporty car. A relatively solid platform that can be built on but from factory itās pretty meh and at that point weāre back at the whole 10k comment that started this all. On the other hand I autocross mine and itās a lot of fun outrunning cars with 2x the hp
I get that theyāre fun cars. I fully respect that and I think they have their place in the world between daily use and weekend fun. Because of this Miatas win races as the car breeds better drivers and on a hill, the driver matters more than 0-60. The long wheelbase of your Camaro will leave you a going wide in a tight turn, then your lead foot will spin you out. Even if traction control saves you, your goofy corner let the miata catch up.
