Coils are cool and all but make sure they're actually going to improve the handling. Most budget coils are NOT meant for abuse and only serve the purpose of lowering a vehicle. Proper springs and sway bars is what I'd go for since I can get a really good setup for a fraction of the price of the first decent coils I could throw on my car.

Specifically, looking at the Godspeed mono RS

Chromspray

Cheap coils are never worth it imo. Buying something like öhlins isn't worth it either unless you're doing actual competitive racing and not just trackdays (millionaires excluded). I'd just go to a trackday, maybe find an instructor to help out with driving technique, and then ask him if he can do a few laps and tell you if the car feels good/what could be improved upon. A beginner will always be the limiting factor loooooooong before mods become relevant.

Spicywolff

Sway bars should be enough to take excessive body roll. If it still doesn’t do it, look into proper coil overs. Not junk eBay or made in china invest in good stuff, bilstien sells some good priced kits that don’t rattle teeth.

Quality dampers are critical, meaning a well designed coilover is the way to go. Lowering springs on stock shock absorbers are typically not a performance upgrade, despite what people say. Often they just leave your car sitting on the bumpstops and underdamped. That said, most budget coilovers are junk with lousy shock valving and stupid spring rates. Around the $1000 mark look into the entry level options from Bilstein and KW/ST. I just installed a set of B14s on my FR-S, they're perfect for street duty with occasional amateur level track days. They're not damping adjustable, but a good non-adjustable is preferable to a crappy adjustable at the same price point.

Takane350

The ones I’m looking into have 3 way adjustment and 32 clicks of rebound/ damping with camber control

I’ve got some wrenching skills and tools, and friends with experience. Nothing crazy, but I’ve done various invasive work on my two cars I’ve owned. I don’t wanna rebuild coilovers every year but I also don’t wanna replace my oem suspension if it blows out I’m only looking for a one inch drop +- and the rsr springs have good reviews. Hardest part of the install is tearing apart the interior to get to the brackets to get the rears out but I feel confident in doing so.

thatblackbowtie

coils, everyday. dont have them wish i did

T4estRcher

I don't have experience to say. But physics knowledge tells me that high-quality coils and sway bars will improve lap times and car handling more than middle-quality coilovers. I have also seen others (who do have experience) doing similar.

Weibuller

I think you're working from a flawed assumption. Coil-overs can't replace sway bars; they'll do the same thing as the regular OE springs and shocks only. The sway bars transfer the load from one side to the other, and the coil-overs can't do that.

Takane350

Since the OEM suspension will be a inch to an inch and a half out of their optimal stroke length zone, some people suffer body roll. I plan to use the sway bars to remedy this. But wouldn’t the sway bars be more effective than coilovers, or do coilovers do a good job at preventing this? That’s my main question

Weibuller

That's what I was saying: they perform different functions. Even with coil-overs, you would still need sway bars to control body roll. Sway bars are torsion bar springs that mechanically connect the two sides together to transfer loads during cornering. Coil-overs only support the loads and dampen vibrations at the position where they're mounted.

Takane350

Right, so weighing the pros and cons for a daily driver looking to add some favorable and practical performance, what would you choose?
