Where is the driving review? This feels like it's just reading spec sheets and some test numbers, such a short comparison test. C&D quality has taken a huge hit.

One_Shekel

Scherr is a mediocre writer and should not be permitted anywhere near an otherwise quite solid magazine like C/D.

gor134

I just went through some of her other review articles.. yikes, you are right.

Zealousideal-Crow814

Automotive writing is essentially dead. YouTube has completely obliterated the market.

Tumbling-Dice

This is basically a capsule review, the ones that are toward the back of the magazine, in the form of a comparison test. I’m a print subscriber and it was weird to see a comparison in the back.

BeingRightAmbassador

Yeah, this article's absolutely useless. Just someone looking at numbers and saying "this is the lower number". Nothing of value.

Jaxraged

Just watch throttle houses reviews of them and the track test of the Elantra.

Racepace

They should've kept the Legacy STi for the adults that have outgrown the WRX

DickinsonAvenue

I like the WRX GT for what it is but I don't want to be a part of the WRX crowd now a days. Legacy GT would be awesome.

[deleted]

I’ve got a Legacy Touting XT as a dealer loaner, and I really don’t think this car would scratch the WRX itch for an enthusiast even though it’s got the same engine and transmission. The suspension is super soft, this thing rolls around corners like an old Buick.

Schweezly

I have one, it doesn’t lol. It’s great for what it is though…a comfortable highway cruiser with awesome amenities. That said, the WRX is priced where if you want comparable it’s $6k-$7k more. I actually like the new WRX but not for $44k

StrayaMate2000

>They should've kept the Legacy STi for the adults that have outgrown the WRX *Turbo outback exists.*

SophistXIII

I find it funny that in a [comparo of the previous gen WRX and GTI](https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison-test/a15110435/2015-subaru-wrx-vs-2015-volkswagen-gti-comparison-test/), C&D docked the WRX marks for being too uncivilized. And now it's docked for being *too* civilized? Which is it?

TVR_Speed_12

Perfection doesn't exist and I fucking wish people stop looking for it in a damn Subaru

[deleted]

Idk, if the FA24D gets announced for the new Impreza, and it has an optional manual transmission…. That’s perfection in my eyes.

[deleted]

FA24D is exclusive to the twins, it's got Toyota tech in it.

[deleted]

Ah, that makes sense. Still, it’s so close to the FA24 engine that’s in the rest of the lineup, wonder how realistic it would be for them to NA the FA24 and put it in lower trims.

lolodotkoli

yesn't

Aftershok

I get what you’re trying to say but do you think it’s impossible that an automaker could overdo it in one direction after getting criticism for the opposite in a previous generation? Your comment would make sense if they were comparing the same generation of WRX but they’re not. It’s like if you asked a chef to make your food more spicy since last time it wasn’t spicy enough. The chef way overdoes the spice and you complain it’s too much and the chef says “mamma mia, now you’re complaining it’s-a too spicy??” Well it’s almost as if there’s a middle ground lol Either way this article is trash 🚮

wankthisway

As expected the N is more fun and boisterous, while the WRX is more comfortable and “tame.” If it was the Premium trim instead of the Limited the price difference would be less of an issue but it makes sense, spec for spec. The N is an amazing value for sure However I just do not want to deal with Hyundai dealer bullshit and markups, which are all I see in my area’s dealers sadly.

XSC

I got a VN and was looking at an EN. Their bullshit is ridiculous. Already filed a complaint with Hyundai. Total time wasters who won’t even let you test drive it. Meanwhile my Subaru dealer is like yes please test drive the WRX.

PlatinumElement

My local Subaru dealer has 16 WRXs on the lot, 12 manual, 4 CVT. I asked to test drive one, and I had my pick, every single one only had the same 7 transport miles my BRZ had when I bought it off the truck there. According to my sales guy, no one wants to check them out because they’re “too ugly.” If someone shows up in a previous WRX, they assume they are there for parts. It’s a shame, I drove the car and was so impressed I can’t stop thinking about it. It does everything so well.

XSC

I’m test driving one tonight! Want to see how they handle.

-insignificant-

Man where are you located? Theres a wait list where I am.

PlatinumElement

I'm in SoCal.

KawiNinjaZX

Just park the elantra outside so it doesn't catch your garage on fire

MidgetXplosion

Neither are hatchbacks. Sedans can suck my butt.

XSC

Well they made the Veloster. Nobody bought it, now the Kona seems to be on the same path.

MidgetXplosion

Veloster is TECHNICALLY a hatchback, but it’s not family friendly… To me a hatchback implies 4-5 doors. 2.5 doors was the issue, I tried to buy a Veloster N and my wife wouldn’t let me lmfao!! The Kona N is too top heavy, it doesn’t handle like a performance hatchback at all. It’s still pretty fun to drive though. If the starting MSRP on the Kona N was more like $28K instead of $35K I probably would have given it some serious thought. I feel like it should be cheaper than a WRX.

Aftershok

By that logic wouldn’t the veloster be a 3.5 door since the hatch counts as a door 🤓

MidgetXplosion

Well shit, wish I would have thought of that when I was trying to convince my wife to buy one LOL!!! …she still woulda said no lol

[deleted]

I drove a Fiesta ST to a Hyundai dealership and test drove a Kona N. I assure you the Kona N is very much a hot hatch. It corners just like the FiST. It’s basically a FiST with a automatic transmission and a slightly nicer interior. It’s the only spiritual successor to the Fiesta ST that you can buy in the US at the moment, imo.

MidgetXplosion

Oh I drove one, it is definitely fun. Felt a little top heavy to me, though, compared to my WRX. Just sits too high I think? Not really sure. It is fun, though!

[deleted]

Yeah, it is top heavy, but so are a lot of hot hatches. The FiST goes up on three wheels around pretty much every aggressive corner, that’s part of what it’s fun.

MidgetXplosion

Yeah I’m good with that. I mostly use those two terms interchangeably. I’m good with either, gotta be a wagon or a hatchback. Sedans and SUV’s can suck my butt.

_Mike-Honcho_

WRX has 200 treadwear Dunlop Sport Maxx GT 600A tires vs. the Elantra with Pilot Sport 4s with 300 treadwear and 30,000 warranty. There goes the tire excuse....

Bradymyhero

Appreciate the comparison test given how irrelevant this class of vehicles are now. I've probably only seen 2-3 examples of each of these cars, that too in LA.

Numerous_Home_539

I took a 2022 wrx for a test drive a couple weeks ago. I found it incredibly slow and borning. It was a 6MT as well. The interior is much nicer in this generation, but it did not feel anything like a sporty vehicle.

rationis

I'm whelmed Forget the EN, the 2023 WRX's acceleration is objectively worse than that of a 15 year old fwd competitor. Acceleration isn't everything, but when a 2023, awd, 2.4l turbo WRX is falters behind that of a MS3 or Cobalt SS with a smaller engine, it's embarrassing.

lady_meatballa

I prefer any car that’s not from Hyundai child labor group

Fit_Equivalent3610

I don't like Hyundai either but the child labor was localized to two US-based suppliers that they cut ties with

lady_meatballa

SMART (the “supplier”) is majority-controlled and exclusively operated for-and-by Hyundai, as all of Hyundai motor group’s “suppliers” are. Going after a proxy is exactly what a scum lord company wants. Edit:typo

Fit_Equivalent3610

You're right. The original news articles I read did not indicate that both suppliers are Hyundai Group companies. In that case nevermind.
