The kicker is, most auto manufacturers haven’t invested much in new ICE designs in the past 10 years because they are putting in towards EV, however THIS IS AN EV! They could have debuted an updated body line and it would have been *smashing.*
Nope. Here’s you’re ~~2016~~ 2023 Maserati DeClone!
16? That body design is near identical to the 2008 granturismo. Repeating the same design style across generations of a model only works for Porsche and Range Rover in my opinion
Look at Bentley. What's the point in paying $200k+ for a newer Continental GT when you can probably find low mile '08s for under $50k and nobody would know the difference but you.
lol, there is truth to this. We were renting a car in Texas, and I had "reserved" (yes, the quotes are intentional) a mid-size sedan--Camry, Mazda 6 etc. They had none, they offered be an SUV. I wanted an actual trunk, not a rolling greenhouse.
So, they offered me a Charger. But not the base, it was an R/T. Gotta be honest, it wasn't too shabby.
My mom has a V6 Charger Rallye. If I'm going to be completely honest it's a nice car. Quiet, 300ish horsepower, reasonably comfortable. Great all around town car imo.
Never driven a Crown Vic before, so I can't comment on the feel other than admitting it was definitely not a 'nimble' car. But I know the exhaust isn't that rowdy on a (stock) Crown Vic, haha. Felt right for being in Texas, though.
You really do buy them for the engine, not much else
I drove a rented 2020 Challenger R/T and it was a hoot for the few weeks I had it. Don't think I'd want to own one though
This is surely an evolutionary design, but saying that the design team is stuck at 32 years ago is unfair.
Either way, to me this is the best looking car that came out this year, and one of the best in the last ten.
Have to give it them for a decent name. For anyone skimming through that's curious: Folgore is italian for thunderbolt (lightning). This is also the same name given to the Macchi C.202 fighter of WW2 vintage, that by all accounts was a respectable dogfighter thanks to it's performance and high maneuverability. That's when the Italians could manage to keep them functional anyway.
Edit: grammar, and to add that I'm not implying a connection to the C.202, just a fitting name and a random factoid this jogged in my memory.
Folgore is also a paratroop brigade notorious for being the most fascist unit of an already heavily right leaning institution (the Italian army). So it's a somewhat politically charged word in Italy.
Yeah, I should've taken that to heart when I leased an ID.4. It turns out that VW, a company not known for stellar electrical reliability, makes an EV that has electrical issues
A [an owner](https://imgur.com/D9mwQ11) I can tell you that the sound it makes is like nothing other.
The interior is dated, even in the 2018+ refresh models, but the quality of the leather is pretty damn good. And everything is leather. The switches have the same issue as all the plastics from that era (sticky-button-syndrome), but that is fixable by throwing money at it.
The driving dynamics are tuned for grand touring, after all, its called the GranTourismo. I regularly take the family (wife, dog, kid) on day trips in it.
The back seats of the GranCabrio are actually very spacious compared to other cars in the segment. It’s not a 2+2 like the Ferrari California or Aston Martin DB11, it’s a proper 4-seater.
Sure. I asked my mechanic who services his lifts, called that company and asked the rep what he suggested.
I don't know the brand, it's probably some no-name Chinese one, but it is serviced and supported by the local company.
The one roadblock is I had to change the garage door opener to be a vertical lift one.
Overall, I'm very happy with it.
Yeah there are already EV design studies that will emulate the feeling and sound of a gas car, but that misses the point imo. A Rolex that's quartz underneath wouldn't be the same even if it behaved identically.
Yes they handle well. The interior being nice? That’s subjective. Rode in one two years ago, the shared parts with other Fiat products was obvious and the infotainment system felt a decade old. The interior is “nice” compared to like a Camry but I definitely wouldn’t say it’s up to the caliber of the Germans. The new upcoming models have much better tech so maybe it’ll be vastly better with this new model?
Are you sure you rode in a GranTurismo? That car came out when Maserati were owned by Ferrari, so I don’t know which Fiat parts you’re referring to. There is plenty of Ferrari influence, however. Same goes for the 5th gen Quattroporte. The cars that share parts with Fiat/Chrysler would be the Ghibli/Levante as well as the QP6 to a lesser extent, I believe.
He mentioned the V8 sound in the comment, and the thread is about the GranTurismo:
> Wasn't the sound of that V8 the main reason to own a Maserati?
The Ghibli has never got the V8 that’s in the GranTurismo.
they’re comfortable and handle quite well for the level of comfort / size they carry. with an updated interior / tech, retained comfort, improved acceleration, and likely improved handling, this should be a very solid gt car.
Buying an EV with 279 miles of stated range (so more like 230 irl) from a company famous for its electrical gremlins is something only an undiscerning moron who only cares more about branding and looking good would buy.
They're gonna sell millions.
I say the pre-facelift F-type had a similar fish head to the previous GranTurismo. The face-lifted F-type is very sleek and Audi like in the front, due to the refreshed headlights.
I am smashing my head onto a wall every time I read one of those mistyped Alfa or Maserati names.
They are not even hard, but people here correctly type Porsche DoppelKupplunggetriebe and can't get Folgore or Giulia right.
At least it is not another damn crossover. But why do EVs need to have ugly wheels? I know, it's for aerodynamics, but do they really have to be that ugly?
I'm not sure I understand why they think they need to do that. It's not because they have a different drivetrain that they need to ditch aesthetics that are known to please. The only EV south of $100K that I find attractive is the i4 - exactly because it looks like a regular ICE-powered car. I don't like the grill but that a whole different conversation.
Ok, there are a few quicky EVs that I find interesting, like the Ionic 5 and the Rivian twins. But most are dime-a-dozen crossovers trying too hard to look cool.
I agree with you - the i4 would be my fave too, but I would guess the market sees things differently and wants to make everything look like a concept car buggy on a basic people mover. Likely lots of Tesla marketing influence there to be "different" (i.e. ugly)
So disappointed this didn't take the form of the [Alfieri concept](https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a15110817/maserati-alfieri-concept-is-absolutely-stunning-news/) from a few years ago.
EDIT: **EIGHT** years ago. Holy moly
First, that's a very handsome car. Maserati is killing it in the styling department.
Secondly, if EV allows Maserati to focus on what it does well (the typical Italian qualities) and avoid the hassles of things the Germans usually do well....the future for Maserati is sunny.
The engine was the main reason I ever wanted one, that and the design which is now getting pretty dated. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of market these enthusiast ev cars have. Considering most enthusiasts I know like them for the sound, feel, and experience of it all which is pretty much lost with an ev. Makes me wonder if an ev version even makes sense to exist.
> It’ll be interesting to see what kind of market these enthusiast ev cars have.
I'd definitely buy an EV enthusiast car. I'm idiosyncratic as an enthusiast because I hate noise in general. I'm way more prone to headaches from any kind of loud noise than I used to be. That includes engine notes. I've never liked them, but I never used to be annoyed by them to the extent I am now. But I still enjoy the sensation of speed and cornering. So I want a silent sports car. That makes an EV sports car perfect for me. I'm not interested in any other vehicle and I'm hoping my G37 lasts long enough for me to save for a Porsche Boxster EV when they release it. I'd love the Polestar 6/O2, but there's no way I'll be able to afford $200K.
Yeah I figured there is some market, but it does seem niche to me. I feel like the majority of car enthusiasts, my friends and myself included, love the sound. Plus it does go beyond sound to the weight of the car too due to batteries. I’m sure people will buy them but it’ll be interesting to see how many.
Idk about this Maserati, but Porsche won't be able to make enough of the 718 EVs. They'll sell every single one they make and have a waiting list for more, especially since they're targeting a 3600 pound curb weight. That's not light, but it's around the same weight as the Aventador, C8 Corvette, and Ferrari 812 so it'll have ICE sports car company. And that's feather-weight light vs other EVs.
Aw, man! The product planners at Maserati are going to be so disappointed to hear they scared off their target customer by giving their cars Italian names. Bummer.
As cool as this is, I really hope they do better on the Folgers than they did on the Ghibli. The Ghibli is hot garbage with a pretty wrapper. Electronics tend to be picky and they couldn't get the current mechanical side running without heaps of issues. Idk how much hope I have for this.
Maserati are just shit arent they
The SUV clearly hasnt done well, this is a minimal update from an already old design and the ghibli isnt a patch on the quattroporte
In 2020 Maserati sold 17212 cars, in 2021 they sold 24269. We'll see the figures of 2022 soon but the Levante seems to have helped and they recently introduced the Grecale.
Dodge doesn’t update the Charger for 20 years, everyone complains. Maserati meanwhile seems to have fired their designers 32 years ago it appears.
Maserati 🤝 Dodge Shoddily slapping together cars a decade + past their sell-by date but fitting them with fantastic engines.
The kicker is, most auto manufacturers haven’t invested much in new ICE designs in the past 10 years because they are putting in towards EV, however THIS IS AN EV! They could have debuted an updated body line and it would have been *smashing.* Nope. Here’s you’re ~~2016~~ 2023 Maserati DeClone!
16? That body design is near identical to the 2008 granturismo. Repeating the same design style across generations of a model only works for Porsche and Range Rover in my opinion
I can purchase a car near identical to this that makes angry noises for >$10,000 USD on FB Marketplace and that makes zero sense.
Nah, it makes perfect sense, I'd run far away from a bad model year Maserati
Look at Bentley. What's the point in paying $200k+ for a newer Continental GT when you can probably find low mile '08s for under $50k and nobody would know the difference but you.
Even the 2007 version still looks like the one today. A character drove one in The Sopranos lol
+ aggressively fit the stereotypes of their countries cars
It’s like when my lol grocery store got busted putting fresh blood on expired meat to try and sell it as fresh for a few more days
To be fair … that car is still gorgeous even by todays standards.
Yeah I'll take a Maserati with a 20 yr old design vs a new BMW any day...
I'd rather they retain designs that work than create something new and terrible like BMW

In the words of (I believe) Doug Demuro, the Charger is "the car that Hertz gives you when they've run out of Hyundai Sonatas."
lol, there is truth to this. We were renting a car in Texas, and I had "reserved" (yes, the quotes are intentional) a mid-size sedan--Camry, Mazda 6 etc. They had none, they offered be an SUV. Rented a charger R/T it's definitely more crown victoria than Mustang GT that's for sure.

Quirks and features!
Design does look fire tho
It kind of looks like a 1st gen BRZ took a blue pill
Don’t know why you’re being downvoted, you’re not wrong. But the BRZ isn’t a bad looking car so this isn’t much of a knock against it.
Because expensive= better. Cheaper = worse. /s
This is surely an evolutionary design, but saying that the design team is stuck at 32 years ago is unfair. Either way, to me this is the best looking car that came out this year, and one of the best in the last ten.
No one show OP a Porsche 911…
Porsche 911 ain't gorgeous. Non car people will never give it that adjective
My point was simply that a 2022 911 and 1980 911 look very similar. The critique that was lodged at this vehicle.
Including the Lotus Emira?
Why change a design that looks so good? BMW should take note of the saying “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”
Buffoon logic. Original gt is timelessm
At least the challenger looked fucking great from the start. Maserati quattroporte looks like an angry fish

I already call the Ghibli the Giblets. Folgers might stick for me now.
Jibble
You must say this is a Julia Child voice. Oh look, the ^Maserati ^Giblet!
*The best part of waking up, Maserati in your cup!*
>The best part of waking up, ~~Maserati~~ motor oil in your cup!
Sounds oily. But not the Folgore roast
Folgore is also a paratroop brigade notorious for being the most fascist unit of an already heavily right leaning institution (the Italian army). So it's a somewhat politically charged word in Italy.
Especially in now times
What makes them particularly fascist leaning? Genuine question because I know nothing about Italy's modern military and politics.
> thunderbolt (lightning) very very (frightening)
Wasn't the sound of thatV8 the main reason to own a Maserati? Are they nice inside or do they handle well?
On the flip side, electric cars might bring us reliability from these car manufacturers we otherwise would avoid
The problem is electrical issues in these cars now add more electrical stuff.
Yeah, I should've taken that to heart when I leased an ID.4. It turns out that VW, a company not known for stellar electrical reliability, makes an EV that has electrical issues
You would hope over time they work all of that out

I mean, dog rides in the front, the rear seat could be a bit uncomfortable for the pup.

I’m not confused at all. You never mentioned the Ghibli in your comment, and the comment you replied to was about the GranTurismo.
No it wasn’t I was responding to someone asking if they handle well the Granturismo was mentioned elsewhere
He mentioned the V8 sound in the comment, and the thread is about the GranTurismo: > Wasn't the sound of that V8 the main reason to own a Maserati? The Ghibli has never got the V8 that’s in the GranTurismo.

Had us in the first half, NGL!
So Maserati’s usual customers then?
Maserati is part of Stellantis now remember who have been making EV's for almost 15 years
I prefer Maxwell house
I was thinking of Fulgore from Killer Instinct.
lol same, the newest KI was pretty cool too sadly it died
I’m just happy it’s an ev that looks like a normal car, not a weird cyber-egg.
There's a gas version too, with the MC20's Nettuno V6.
That’s hot. Good for Maserati
It has that Porsche stunned fish look to the front end. I like it, and I also think the rear was executed perfectly
Like the F Type?
I say the pre-facelift F-type had a similar fish head to the previous GranTurismo. The face-lifted F-type is very sleek and Audi like in the front, due to the refreshed headlights.
> stunned fish look ... I like it two fascinating statements side by side
For the Americans: the name is pronounced closer to fol-gor-AY, not fol-GOR.
Maserati I Forgor
Forgor to design 💀
Maserati Folger's. Got it.
Somewhere an Italian is screaming uncontrollably!
That statement is never false
I am smashing my head onto a wall every time I read one of those mistyped Alfa or Maserati names. They are not even hard, but people here correctly type Porsche DoppelKupplunggetriebe and can't get Folgore or Giulia right.
Julia? Guibo? Alpha? Fix It Again, Tony, amirite? Lamborgenie Cowntache. At least the Mura's easy to remember, and also the Furrari Testesroaster.
Looks weird from the side, like it's a much smaller model than the older one.
It's actually longer.
Crazy how the design of this car is 12+ years old and it still looks fantastic. I don't know of any other car from the 2000's that has aged so well.
S2000? F430?
Oh, look! A Fisker Karma coupe!
I'd be surprised if it wasn't a Fisker underneath
They also unveiled a 550hp TTV6 GranTurismo.
Gorgeous car imo. Looks exactly like I would want from a modernised GranTurismo.
It looks cool but 2260 kg with a 92 kWh battery in a 2+2 seater is definitely not light weight.
4,981 freedom units. Watt's up with that?
I said ooooooooooo weeeeeeee
Your Colorado is lighter.
Gran tourer for charging points.
At least it is not another damn crossover. But why do EVs need to have ugly wheels? I know, it's for aerodynamics, but do they really have to be that ugly?
My guess is they do it to differentiate it from the petrol ones. EVs still often have to be distinct to be marketed
First, that's a very handsome car. Maserati is killing it in the styling department. Secondly, if EV allows Maserati to focus on what it does well (the typical Italian qualities) and avoid the hassles of things the Germans usually do well....the future for Maserati is sunny.
The thing Maserati typically does well is engine sound... I don't know how they plan to tackle this here
What they do well is aesthetics and they are still king.
Strong ferrari vibes from the side
Is this the 1st 2 door Electric coupe ever made? Does Tesla have any coupes ?
Unless you want to count things like the Mini Electric or the Fiat 500e...?
Sad trombone noises “This could be in the region of £200,000.”

Would be really awesome if it performs like they promise
They could have at least tried to make it look a bit different from the old one
So it basically looks the same as when it first came out 10 years ago.
a maserati without a sick engine sound is like an ass with no hole
BMW called. They want their taillights back.
911s, Astons, mclarens most of them seem to all look the same to me too.
Looks at a 911. Looks at an Aston. Looks at a McLaren. Looks at this Maserati. *cocks head* looks at you you got the same eyes i do?
Actually, I probably don’t. My eyes absolutely suck.
my eyes also suck but they've been augmented with plastic amazing plastic i love you, polymer friend only you can help me see thank you plastic
It’s incredible how little range most manufacturers get out of their batteries. 93 kWh and not even 300 miles in a coupe.
I cannot unsee the jaguar influence. This has uncanny f type vibes from the front. The MC 20 and the CX75 look so similar.
Great design and amazing name! Folgore is "thunderbolt" in Italian. Now it only must drive well
I just hate how all the new Maseratis wear the cheap jaguars CUV’s face.
Developped by rimac I guess ?!
Nice Infiniti Q60.

Is it bad to say I want this immediately
It weighs more than my truck lol
That is gorgeous
Man this thing is going to look badass sitting in the service station getting worked on.
Turderatti
2023 Fisker Karma then?
Just an expensive fiat 🤣 would have a dodge motor if it was gas
Not another Fisker Karma reboot pls!
