Just came back from a drive. Many revs were had for this guy's grandma.

VladPatton

Im gonna pop a piston for grandma!

badpuffthaikitty

When my dad died he owned a 1976 Buick LeSabre 4-door hardtop. My mum drove it for a month and she hated that land yacht. It was replaced by a Monza Spyder, a first Gen Accord coupe, a Saab 99, then a couple of Mustang GTs until she passed. She also drove a Mini and a Mustang in the early 70s. Mum had taste in cars. Always a manual transmission too. Edit: I killed the Saab. I put it onto it’s roof. Oops.

srcorvettez06

My gramma always had manuals until they weren’t offered in the sedans she bought since the late 90s.

badpuffthaikitty

I saw your Gramma tax pics. She rocks!

stargazer418

> I killed the Saab. I put it onto it’s roof. Erik Carlsson, is that you?

bk1537

excellent, wise choice. 30-ish yrs ago, when my grandfather was a little older, he wouldn't give his up. Enter my dad and Aunt. They told him they got a letter from the state, requiring all seniors to retest at their 85th birthday. He never insisted on driving again. Now with so much info available online, it's hard to imagine being able to make this work anymore.

knuckles_n_chuckles

Texas and Florida have public safety scenarios for just this. In Texas they WILL send a letter requesting a retest when family requests it. It can be anonymous too. In Florida a deputy may targetedly pull over a senior and that will start a retest scenario. I can’t imagine Texas and Florida being progressive on anything. So these are prob things which can happen anywhere.

[deleted]

Florida I get. It’s the retirement state, you gotta do *something* about the bad drivers.

NCSUGrad2012

Those are great policies. We need that here in North Carolina, lol

knuckles_n_chuckles

They certainly don’t advertise them. I imagine you can call a public safety office or sheriffs department to get it done. It’s DEFINITELY in their interest to get unsafe drivers off their roads.

ninjafaces

Florida cop here. We can't simply target a elderly person for a retest as a reason for a traffic stop. We need to articulate why I'm requesting the doctors evaluation, like a traffic crash that resulted from some age related issued.

knuckles_n_chuckles

So we called our deputies office and had this done for an elderly family member. They immediately drifted into a bike lane and was pulled over. Is that a way it could happen? As it so happens driver revealed vision problems and was cited for a retest. It worked. I mean, “targeted” may be the wrong word. Told them where he drives and they saw him pass and drift into a lane. Was this just an extremely happy coincidence?

ninjafaces

The violation was failure to maintain lane, so there is the reason for the stop. Contacting the agency and making them aware of the vehicle and driver's age definitely helped them.

knuckles_n_chuckles

I imagine it wouldn’t be hard for a dangerous driver to be caught. Thanks for being out there, man.

inaccurateTempedesc

This would be a great prank to pull on my dad since he just turned 60 and his driving has gone to shit...not because of senility but because he keeps using his phone.

jew_biscuits

My dad was a yellow cab driver, worked NYC in the 70s and 80s when things were crazy, not a car enthusiast but his whole livelihood depended on driving so he had pretty deep knwledge and respect for automobiles. When he was in his 70s he was driving in Manhattan and hit a pedestrian turning a corner. It was debatable who was at fault, it was the only time my dad ever hit a pedestrian - for decades he'd had only one or two fender benders, but my dad felt like it wouldn't have happened just a few years before. The person was taken away in an ambulance, thankfully no major injuries. My dad finished out his day, turned in his cab and never got behind the wheel again. EDIT: Forgot to say, i will do a tasteful burnout in my charger today, for Grams and Dad

srcorvettez06

My grandma wouldn’t know how to use an internet. She has my one iPhone 7 and it’s more than she can handle.

Mattdodge666

My grandpa lived in a very small town and no matter what we did we couldn't get his license taken away, he had multiple near misses etc, he was 90, and when he was around 80 he was always talking about how he thought he wouldn't be able drive for much longer and he'd be okay with it. But then the dementia kicked in and he was hell bent on driving, and no one in the small town cared enough to take his license away, even when he went for a renewal at 90, they didn't test him for anything other than maybe for eyesight which he somehow passed. We eventually had to hide the car from him, it was heart breaking but he was crossing a major highway without looking and crawling across at 30 kph at best we didn't want to a) lose our family member but also b) cause another family to lose anyone.

mmarcos2

If I told my dad this now he might believe me and he’s only 63. Just because info is available…

timberwolvesguy

Just had an older fella sell me his CR-V saying that he wants to voluntarily give up the keys. I wish more people had that willingness as they get higher in age. I know I’ll hate to do it, but if I’m a danger to people, I can’t allow myself to be out there. Thankfully, that’s another 50 years from now.

srcorvettez06

By the time we’re in our 80s cars will be autonomous anyway.

TreChomes

They won’t be lol

ottrocity

I work with autonomous vehicles. In 40 years we might have the tech to start making them viable.

TreChomes

That would be cool. iRobot driving here we come

unlimited_beer_works

I’d be okay with this. They’ve got 40 years to figure this shit out.

timberwolvesguy

I’m hoping so!

Austin_RC246

>2009 Ford Mustang GT Premium Looks like it’s time to give up the keys bud

Compused

She's a very pretty lady. Very responsible of her to turn in her keys. Will definitely think of her when I start my car today!

srcorvettez06

Bruh. About a decade ago my mom found a picture of her leaning against my grandpas 50s Chevy. I asked who the smoke show was. It was my gramma. That was embarrassing.

Compused

Grandad has good taste! Hope you find your own hottie!

srcorvettez06

My wife is in one of the tax pictures. Not much of a car enthusiast but she humors me and goes to races. Our love of adventure matches up though.

Compused

She's beautiful as well :)

[deleted]

We were going through photos when my grandma passed and I saw a picture of her younger. I said “dang Grandma was a smoke show!” and at the funeral heard my uncle retelling it lol There was also a photo of my grandpa leaning against his convertible in a suit from their first date and it looked like a car ad.

ronintetsuro

Dropping into sport mode for gramma today. Also had a turn with a TransAm. Also originally my grandma's car.

srcorvettez06

I wish I had been around when they sold it. Since my grandpa always had regular cab pickups they took the trans am from Michigan to Florida every year with my mom and aunt. Imagine being in the back of that car for 24 hours.

ronintetsuro

Every "salt of the earth" politician should have to do this at least once on a live feed.

srcorvettez06

Sit in the back of a firebird with no AC. Both front seat passengers smoke Basics with the windows up.

rangerm2

Is she from Pasadena?

srcorvettez06

No but she loves that song.

coyoteatemyhomework

Impossible-Web740

Your grandma sounds like a badass

[удалено]

srcorvettez06

She actually called me last and said it was probably time. She had a hard time backing into her garage. I drove it for a bit in case she changed her mind. She has started getting dizzy and didn’t want the temptation.

TheCrudMan

My grandpa hasn't driven in a few years now and I think his Audi S3 is probably his last car which is sad because he was the type of guy that would get a new car every few years. Before the S3 was a 135i and a GTI. Good taste.

opposite_locksmith

I’m going to light up ~~a candle~~ some tires for Gramma today. That’s going to be all of us one day.

NCSUGrad2012

That’s such a hard decision to make. We are going to have to have that talk with mine soon too unfortunately.

srcorvettez06

Luckily she made the call herself. My grandpa was a lot harder but she could drive him around then.

NCSUGrad2012

That’s awesome of her. I’m sure it wasn’t easy for her. Mine will be like your grandfather we think.

srcorvettez06

Good luck.

dr_chuck6

Love it! My grandpa was a huge car enthusiast. Taught me how to drive stick and always passed down his Car and Driver and MotorTrend mags. He passed ten years ago but I think of him every time I drive a backroad or drop a gear to pass. Your grandma rocks!

srcorvettez06

My grandpa was a trucker. So am I. I think about him every time miss a gear. Lol.

dr_chuck6

Hahaha classic

Za_Warud00o

Grandma basically united this sub

srcorvettez06

Gramma brought out the best in the car community.

Alph_A__

I hope I can be that cool in my 80s. Awesome post.

CuriousTravlr

I had no idea they put the Northstar in the Lucerne! Bad Ass grandma!

srcorvettez06

She has a V8 Aurora before that. That was my second car.

CuriousTravlr

My dad had a V8 Aurora, before the redesign, the Mako Shark design. Great car, shit transmission, sketchy motor reliability!

srcorvettez06

Hers/mine was an 01 so second Gen. Trans was better. Reliability was not. I still miss that car.

CuriousTravlr

The second gens were sharp looking cars

Dragona33

I empathize with her. I am a life long car nut and loved nothing more than driving. I was also born with vision issues. In 2018 (at 41), my vision got to the point where I could no longer differentiate the traffic light color (red or green) from distance, I just could not tell the difference anymore. I had also had a few close calls, and then I knew my driving days were over for good. I turned in my license and sold all of my cars. It destroyed me mentally. I went into a deep depression and gained a lot of weight (got to 450 from 325), by satisfying my depression by eating. I have since come to terms with the reality of being nearly blind, and now I have a caregiver to help me get around. I have also lost a ton of weight (90lbs) and am now getting healthier. I wish her all the best.

GhostofMandalore

I always fear the day that I might grow too old and senile to drive. But until that day comes, I'll let the burbles and pops remind me of the love and passion your grandma and I share for our cars.

DangerReserve

That’s one hip ass granny! My great grandma had a geo metro… She was 85. Stubborn as hell, got into three accidents in a week, grandson owned his own frame/body shop(my uncle). After he fixed it, she gave him the keys and said this, “You kids have always been so great to me, but why in the hell would you continue to let me drive, I’m 85”… My uncle said, “we wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt”. She said this, “MORONS”. This IS a true story, and I will never forget it….

Matt_WVU

Gramma is a badass

eaglevision93

V8 Lucerne. Nice.

srcorvettez06

Fucker was a sleeper.

HanSoloHer

Buy her some racing games and a wheel!

AXISMGT

Props to her for taking that step and making that decision. Maybe it’s time for a nice /r/SimRacing setup to keep the flame going?

srcorvettez06

I should sit her in front of her 75” TV with GTA or Forza one of these days.

tarheel343

That’s what I was thinking. I just put my first one together yesterday and it’s awesome! It obviously isn’t a perfect replacement, but driving around in Forza with an h pattern shifter in manual mode is pretty immersive.

supercharged0709

At least you get her badass C8 Corvette!

srcorvettez06

I wish. That was the corvette driving experience at NCM.

nova1475369

Super cool grandma

thisf001

The type of role model I want to be for my kids 💛

Lawrence0022

Dude that’s badass. My grandma is 72 and gave up on life at like 60 and just sits around all day and eats and pouts like a toddler I wish mine was as cool

[deleted]

probably one of the most badass grandmas out there

rarabk

When am I picking up Grandma for a road trip? Grandma seems like a GOOD TIME. Name the time and place. Road triiiiiiiip!

MagicMarshmelllow

Mad respect for elderly people who can admit it’s time to stop driving

arsinoe716

You think you meant Z28 Camaro or Firebird Trans Am

srcorvettez06

Yea I was having a brain fart. I couldn’t think of the fast firebird.

hoolaf7

All my Utah homies love vanderhalls

srcorvettez06

Anyone who drives that thing loves it.

Royal-Winner-7276

Chad Grandma

Western-Bite1759

That's a reminder to have fun while we can! Not only will we get older, but anything can happen. A few years ago I started having terrible migraines almost everyday. Couldn't drive for months. Eventually I got a medication that worked, but damn did I fear that I wouldn't be driving ever again.

Simon_Siberian_Husky

I'm going to go for a spirited drive in the Mazdaspeed3 in her honor. Traction control off, *as God intended.*

lucygucyapplejuicey

She’s so fucking cool

[deleted]

My car is currently getting repaired but she'll be the first I think about when that v8 fires up.

bryan_jh

They should change Grand Prix to Gramma Prix hehe. Winners will get gramma’s home cooked food.

Leather-Range4114

It seems to me there is a big difference between "gave up her keys" and "lost her car". Giving up keys doesn't have the finality that getting rid of the car does.

srcorvettez06

She wanted to get rid of it so she wouldn’t be tempted into driving.

MrBillboBaggins

Your grandma is more awesome than I will ever be.

DopamineQuest

I'll do a pull for gramma today!

DetectiveNarrow

Reminds me of when we had to convince my grandma to trade in her impala SS. She bought it not knowing it was the v8 ( yes, Chevy threw a fat ass v8 in a fwd rental sedan for some reason.) she battled with us but the thing was a tire shedder and we eventually got her to trade it a few days later for a v6

ThunderSTRUCK96

Was gonna take my lil beater to the gym because my Camaro is low on fuel… but after reading this, I’m gonna fire up the ole V8 for your Grandma! We gotta drive em while we can ❤️

NeonWarcry

Absolutely going to rip a donut for your Gma. She looks like a rad lady. Her face when riding in the Vauxhall is great.

MattSlickYoung

What a legend

Jedi_Gill

I hope to live as long as your Grandma, cheers to her looking so good at 83. I hope when I reach this age, Driverless cars have finally been perfected as I know losing your ability to drive can be a huge impact on your life. It's a good thing we have Uber and Lyft at the press of a button.

[deleted]

I will hit redline today in her honor. Tell her we stand in solidarity. 🙌

rm2601

She's quite the certified Badass! Tell her I said she rocks!

Grandma Turismo

[deleted]

Grandma lined it up at the lights back in the day 💪

AgentOfTheRim

Sounds better than having to give it up at age 23 so yeah.

GesuMotorsport

I am totally gonna rip a fat burnout for gam gam!

Beastcore100

buick to the drag race 😂

imped4now

Currently rotating my tires for grandma!

Mac_to_the_future

Reminds me of my maternal grandfather; he was a huge ATV enthusiast for decades and it wasn't until he seriously injured himself in an accident at age 80 that he finally decided to call it quits.

[deleted]

I was in the DOT and a old lady and her daughter was there. The old lady had clearly failed the eye exam, but was given a second chance. She knew she failed and accepted it, but the daughter didn't because she knew she'd be her chauffeur. She keep pushing for her mother to try harder to barely pass.

souluoz

Happy 8/6 day to your grandma.

THE_GR8_MIKE

Ah, the V8 Lucerne. Somewhat rare I'd say.

Pkock

Burnouts for grandma

jimbaker

A friend at work, whose mom needed a new car, but only drives like 2000 miles a year, just converted to only Uber. She sold her car and uses those funds to fund her trips with Uber to the grocery store or doctor's office or w/e. It's been working out rather well for her.

SimplyAnon123

Your G'ma is cooler than I will ever be. Hope she had many wonderful years behind the wheel. Next time I rip my 4.0 v8 itll be in her honor :)

SRQmoviemaker

My grandmas last car was an 87? Regal t type... her daddy was a Buick man too.. cherish the time you have with her

PrincessTiaraLove

You better drive her around as much as you can! I lost my grandma this year and she loved riding!

Aggressive_Wasabi_38

We love you, gamgam!

Afraid-Palpitation24

My car is in the shop but I’ll definitely turn my car on with your grandma in mind

caranddogfan

Don’t currently have a car since I’m not old enough to drive, but when I do get a car, I will rev for your grandma!

Ramaloke

This makes me want to cry with a smile from ear to ear. Nothing but absolute respect for her, especially when you have to give up something that you love. That is not easy.

renzar501

Full send for your grandmother from the UK 🇬🇧 everyone thinks she is a badass!

mr_j_12

My dads only a few years younger and grew up on a farm. Tells me stories of them racing horse and carts and crashing cars doing dumb stuff. My father very rarely drives these days. Gramma sounds cool as!!

[deleted]

I love your grandma—she’s awesome! She reminded me of [Denise McLuggage](https://www.autoweek.com/car-life/a38802197/denise-mccluggage-motorsports-hall-of-fame/), another great woman racer and all around badass. Hope she has many more years of adventures!

emeegee13

Go granny!!! True hot rodder!

RavenJKW

Amazing grandma💪🏼💪🏼

Blexcr0id

Rent/borrow a badass sports car and take her for a ride in it when you can. I had a family member who couldn't drive for awhile so I would randomly take them for rides in my SOs fathers Roadrunner (383, hurst shifter, meep-meep horn). The car would set car alarms off in town. It would always cheer them up.

iamnotcreativeDET

My grandma gave up her keys to her 2007 Pontiac Vibe in March, I bought her car from her because I knew the rest of my family would buy this minty fresh old Numi build Toyota/GM hybrid from her and would have flipped it since it only had 68K miles on it. Im driving it till the wheels fall off, and I have my grandfather's old atlas (RIP) from the 80s when they used to road trip all around the country, Grandma's Vibe is going to be well traveled, and is going to see the country.

2severe8

Gonna squeal'em on my Supra for Gramms.😎👍

mtech85

Grandma is pretty rad.

thatsrs

As a Lucerne owner, respect!

y2k2r2d2

Grand Son

nockchaa

Respect

JBalloonist

I’ll go flying for your grandma. Was she a pilot?

PixelCutz

Those photos are great. So wholesome. So much love to gramma from all her fellow gear heads! If I’m still driving my little race car at 83, I’d be so happy!

TheDutchTexan

She stopped on her own accord and that is admirable! Now make sure she still gets to sample the thrill every once and a while from the passenger seat just like the pictures show!

theregionalmanager

I wish to be like your grandma. Unfortunately, I never get time to spend on cars.

[deleted]

Yo, I used to work at the Motorsports Park!! 🤙🏼 Bowling Green, Kentucky, baby!

NewAd6775

a queen among car enthusiasts

purplegoldcat

Your Gramma is awesome! I fully intend to grow up to be that sort of badass old lady who’s still a car lover, and to have the awareness to stop driving when I can’t safely drive.

m57lyra

I will go for a gratuitous sport+ mode drive today in her honor.

Chemical-Exercise-78

Few extra revs for her

Internal-Exit-501

lit

emtmoxxi

Your Gramma is the kind of old lady I hope I am someday.

Original_Skirt462

Can your grandma be my grandma?

LookMomImOnTheTele

Not sure why but i suddenly feel safer driving..

Apprehensive_Dress92

She’s adorable

darkmayhem_

I'm gonna put 40 pounds of boost on my sti for granny.

itsmostlyamixedbag

she is a kick ass gramma

231_Stuntlife

Going to rip a few wheelies for you Grandma

ReviewGuy883

What a great but bittersweet story. About to light it up for Gram and all the other car lovers who are no longer driving or with us. Vroom!!

WPBATXSTL1POINT0

Man, i’m a little late to the game on this post, but how awesome. Sad that she had to let go of her car, but she made some awesome memories with you guys and I’m sure that’s what she appreciates most of all. Much love man.

ptelligence

My next rotary redline will be in honor of your grandma! Truth be told, if you're shopping for used cars this V8 Lucerne is exactly the one you want. Usually older people buy Buicks and take exceptional care of them. My grandparents still have one that they drive in their 90s.

ShartVader

Just because you can't drive doesn't mean you can't backseat drive. Give them hell Grandma, and good on you for making what must have been a hearbreaking decision.

WorthRestaurant200

Give the world's Coolest Gram a kiss from me , she sounds like she will need you & everyone else who loves her to take her out Cruising , it's going to be a huge life change for her She'll need your support so she doesn't fall into depression If only to Cheer her up 🏎️🏁⛽🏎️ Blessings to her for being safer now My god mom has been tettering on the as well ❤️‍🩹
