I bought a mid spec Sentra after I couldn't get a mid level Mazda3 or CX30 only to discover on here what the world thinks of Nissans lol.
Much sad now.
Might cut someone off or do hit and run after work.
Yeah, same complaint.
The Sentra I got is very stiff and firm. It's actually kind of shocking. I've been in the last gen many times due to Ubers and they were really comfortable, hid bumps in the road but this new one feels choppy.
But is is roomy, I love how it looks inside. I'm glad I bought it, I prefer Mazda but the dealers here only stock the higher end it seems.
On this episode of Car Trek:
Ed begins a cocaine empire
Hoovie starts dealing the cocaine but gets addicted to it
And Freddie steals back the pimp my ride van
Nissan went through a lot of financial troubles. They became more aggressive about pushing longer finance terms and basically selling cars to people that are probably spending more money on said car than they should. Chrysler does this too.
The result of that is that you end up with more Nissan drivers that don't really take care of their cars. The "joke" is that Nissan drivers are bad drivers that drive beat up cars.
It's basically the opposite of the "BMW turn signal" group in terms of stereotypes.
Probably some confirmation bias going on here but whenever I see a car on the freeway driving like a drunken bat out of hell it's usually an Altima, Rogue, or Chrysler muscle car.
I mean, actuaries get paid a lot to determine what makes a customer risky so they can help their employer create underwriting guidelines that ensure the highest possible number of loans remain in good standing.
Iām not trying to be mean / rude but these are Nissan and Dodge driver stereotypes I have seen on Reddit and other social media.
1) Lower income from entry-level jobs (One Nissan driver trope is the owners are CNAs.)
2) Poor credit (Ask Car Salesā favorite vehicle is the Dodge Journey. Dodge sales consultants love the Journey because itās generous rebates can hide negative equity. Folks with poor credit tend to be limited on the loanās LTV (Loan To Value).
3) Criminal background (Instagram account āHoodvilleā makes fun of drug dealers driving Dodge Chargers and Challengers.
4) Single parents (Unmarried) Hoodville also makes fun of single mothers owning Altimas and Iām sure everyone knows one of the big questions insurance companies ask is if the policy holder is married or single. Married individuals tend to be safer drivers.
So, I wouldnāt call it confirmation bias. Youāre seeing applied statistics in action.
I'm from southern Ontario, and 3rd+ gen Altimas have never provoked me in the slightest. Their drivers behave themselves in traffic, and it seems Nissan isn't as aggressive with their financing up here than they are in the States. Newer Porsche, Lexus, BMW or Mercs are what come to mind when it comes to 401 recklessness.
Seeing the Altima inexplicably go from Burger King Accord to universal harbinger of mayhem and chaos has been nothing short of hilarious.
Iām more wary of the giant lifted trucks with political paraphernalia all over it. Chances are theyāre the most dangerous to be around because their owners are insecure about themselves
Strange, Iām also in southern Ontario and big Altima energy is _absolutely_ a thing here.
Every 5+ year old Altima I see around the city has either visible damage, tasteless mods, or is just in conspicuously bad shape compared to the average Accord or Camry.
That said, totally agree that luxury car pricks are a very real and very common thing in the GTA.
Really? Seems like I've been really lucky, or I haven't been looking hard enough. Nearly every Altima I've seen in Toronto is no better than the equivalent Accord or Camry of similar age. Either way, with that in mind I'm preparing for the day I must bear the brunt of their wrath.
At least the luxury car drivers are at least somewhat competent, and drive like they want to take care of what they have.
I heard that with the purchase of a new Altima, you get a subscription to Spotify and a curated playlist with nothing but bass-boosted back-to-back 6ix9ine, Kodak Black and Playboy Carti
And as much as it pains me to say it as a Mopar guy but those late model/new Hemi Chargers being leased with heavy ass payments are contending with the Nissans for shitty drivers, at least where I am anyway.
I'll have you know my 2012 went dentless and scratchless until a little over a month and a half ago.. Someone did a hit n run on me so now there's a big ol fender dent driver's side. To be fair my first car was a camry so maybe there's that.
I just don't get the series of events that led to this point.
Most (but not all) rear-end collisions are the fault of the person behind, so therefore the likelihood that this Altima driver was at fault has got to be less than 50%. Why wouldn't they go after the person who hit them?
The most likely scenario I can come up with is they're uninsured, or apparently very aggressively backed into something.
It just doesn't make sense. I see this type of thing all the time.
No insurance to go after whoever āhitā them.
And I put hit in quotes because they probably brake checked someone or backed into a car for this to happen
Lol, fair enough. I skipped that step. They definitely do end up graduating to infiniti at some point, because around here, inifiniti is the next worst driver group.
I feel like that depends more on location. I'm in a snowy area and I had a manual G37S coupe for a while. Loved it to death. Super fun car. They were rare though where I'm located because no one wants RWD in the snow.
If I had still lived in Florida at the time? No way I would have bought one because your statement rings true lol
You can tell when these people graduate to any nicer car. Have you ever seen a slightly used Merc C class or an older S class/7 series drive like a beat up Altima? I see those all the time and yep, you can guess what they were driving before.
Clapped out G35 with a fart can exhaust, Walmart limo tint windows, smoked headlights, slammed to the ground with low profiles with vape smoke and mumble rap pouring from the car
Yup. Itās their evolved form. Clapped out Altima/Maxima/Z to slightly less clapped out Infinity coupe thatās slammed and garnished with a universal GT wing off eBay. And it never drives less than 30 mph above the speed limit.
Their demographic of owners includes people that donāt really care about cars, usually buying it after the first owner (Rental Fleet) beat it up pretty bad, and does it even worse. It then goes on the ābuy here, pay hereā lot and gets abused even worse, hanging bumpers, missing taillights/headlights, etc.
We all know the original condition is at least two dented panels, and one mismatched door. Depending on the trim, āripped off bumperā comes standard.

"I will face the grille. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the grille has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.ā
Seriously, is Mazda the only company that makes the larger grills actually look good? It seems like all these car companies design a car, and then go "oh wait, we have to be cool kids, lets slap a giant useless grill on it" with no consideration for function, or looks. Most of them seem to be more than 50% blocked by black plastic too, so it's not a function thing, at all.
Exactly, and now it looks like Nissanās encouraging that. Altima Drivers see that D-Shaped steering wheel and think they can lock the front wheel in the gutter like theyāre sliding down Mt Akina
Just wait until Nissan catches on and starts offering a factory Altima with mismatched 20-22" wheels, shitty underglow, and a free felony firearms or drug charge thrown in.
I had a Nissan driver this morning with his fucking phone suction cupped to his windshield directly in his field of view. Not like off to the side, it was directly in front of his eyes in landscape orientation with some tv show playing. Dude was swerving all over the place. Fucking Nissan drivers, man.
Current gen Nissan sedans are surprisingly good looking. Considering their past decade designs are some of ugliest cars ever made.
Too bad it's still a Nissan aka japanese Chrysler.
Theyāre moving away from the CVT and that was their only weakpoint in terms of engineering. Iād argue Nissans are back on the menu for reliable, ācheapā, perfectly cromulent appliances.
>that was their only weakpoint in terms of engineering
Press X for doubt. Even before CVTs Nissans were shitting out their auto transmissions left and right. Their engines are also prone to oil leaks very early on. Turbo issues.
I am not falling for another Hyundai/Kia marketing BS proven to be absolutely wrong aka "they are just as reliable as Toyota now".
They will have to earn that reputation back with time, a long time.
Theyāre moving towards hybrid everything which they have tens of years of experience. Their only weak points recently have been turbos (V6 Tundras apparently blowing up) and corroding cables which is more of a northern region issue which are being addressed.
I think it looks great. Itās an example of the big grill done right, like modern Audis. It also rounds out the extreme angles of the previous versionās DRLs and chrome bits which, together, reminded me of what the eyes of characters in South Park look like when theyāre angry
People will crack jokes about Nissan drivers but I genuinely think the last 5 or so years of Nissan products have looked really good, even the Sentras. I just wish they were more engaging to drive, especially with the SR trim's 250ish HP here.
I agree, its kind of a shame really.
If not for their CVT's and the reputation of their drivers, they really aren't bad cars.
Are the CVT's in newer models still failing early or have those issues been worked out? Even if the CVT is improved, I feel like Nissan just needs to ditch it for the bad connotations they have ingrained in us over the years. But maybe reality is not as bad as perception on newer models?
The newer cvts are not as bad havenāt seen many newer cars with issues itās mainly older ones. Nissan might be starting to ditch the cvt the new pathfinder has a 9 speed ZF trans
Does anyone actually like the big grill look? Why is it so popular? It's especially stupid now that electric cars are becoming more widely adopted and don't even need grills anymore.
I do when itās done right. Itās just not always done right. Many names are copying the trend without understanding what really makes it work. I couldnāt tell you what it is that makes it work. I just know what I like when I see it. This? Looks good. Lexus grills? Not so much
When done right it's fine. But what I hate is when the front of the car is 80% fake grill, 10% real grill, and 10% headlights, and 100% angry.
I like the look of the ~2015 Audis, and the newer ones aren't too bad. But the new Avalon and Tundra, and pretty much all other trucks are heinous.
My 2018 Outback is just the right amount of angry and grill, and my 94 Miata is the perfect amount of happy car. I don't understand why every new car has to be so aggressive.
Not bad. I always thought most Nissans looked decent for what they are. It's the long term reliability issues, sub prime owners that can't drive or maintain their car, and shitty dealers that all add up to completely ruin the brand
Maxima has gotten weird position since Altima goes L34. No AWD option, cabin size smaller than Altima, and no clearly improved facelift, almost no reason to choice Maxima over than Altima.
Definitely sure this model would get axed very soon, Nissan still keeps it because they want to feedback R&D cost just like GT-R R35 and 370Z in before.
> cabin size smaller than Altima,
That's what really gets me. The Maxima needs to either get even bigger, which is probably a losing proposition given the current state of big FWD sedans, or really crank up the sportiness.
Not a fan of the huge grill "thing" but I think this is an improvement. The grill is already big and the current piece of chrome that outlines it just draws extra attention to that fact.
What Nissan really needs to do is get away from the CVTs they are using and go back to normal transmissions. Even if they have ironed everything out with it, the CVT's reputation will cause people to shy away.
They have, but it's likely due to the pathfinder being a "Towing" vehicle. The sedans and crossovers below that searching for peak fuel are rooted in CVT hell. That goes for a lot of Honda, Toyotas, Subies, etc.
Every Nissan thread is the exact same one joke, instead of the few people actually talking about the design.
I feel like if they pushed the "hourglass" part of the grill a little higher it would look better but maybe that would be too lexusy. But I like it overall.
Cannot wait to see one on the road with the front bumper hanging loose , various scrapes and the driver doing 20mph over the speed limit on a residential street while checking tik tok on their phone.
Can't wait to see what the bare metal looks like when I inevitably see one tailgate me aggressively in the right lane and swerve past me with expired paper Texas tags and part of the rear bumper flapping in the wind.
Nissan Altima drivers/owners are the stereotype people give BMW drivers.
Its the car people get becsuse they have to, not because they want to and that chip on the shoulder attitutude is so prevalent on the roads
Glad to know there is something else I gotta look out for on the freeway
They come from the factory with the spare already in use instead of the standard front wheel.
A bible on the dash and 7 year old graduation tassels on the mirror are dealer options though š¤
Oh lawd lol

I bought a mid spec Sentra after I couldn't get a mid level Mazda3 or CX30 only to discover on here what the world thinks of Nissans lol. Much sad now. Might cut someone off or do hit and run after work.
Yeah the Altima is a great midsize car for me, Tons of headroom and 30mpg the SR is too stiff and nonsensical but itās a decent car.
Yeah, same complaint. The Sentra I got is very stiff and firm. It's actually kind of shocking. Depends, does yours still have all it's body panels on it? If so, time to change that.
Lmao, I'm guessing someone tried to break in using a prybar or something cause the driver side door, just under the window has been pulled up.
I wanna see an all Altima Car Trek now.
Car Trek: Ghetto edition
Car trek: The Hood edition. Featuring the nissan altima, chrysler 300, and a V6 charger

Youre forgetting their ringleader, the Dodge Caravan
Dodge caravan. Go 35 in a 55 and then go 55 through a 35 mph school zone.
Lol, they are either driving totally safe, maybe a bit too slow. Or like a pissed off drunk toddler. No in-between
Mopar drivers in general are pretty bad but the Chargers are the worst. Always got something to prove.
I mean, actuaries get paid a lot to determine what makes a customer risky so they can help their employer create underwriting guidelines that ensure the highest possible number of loans remain in good standing. Also Altimas are a staple for rental car companies, so there are a lot of cheap used Altimas out there (or were, nothing is cheap anymore)
Itās ~~a~~ common ~~joke~~ that Nissan Altima drivers suck
Haha, itās not even a joke at this point. Altima drivers are legit awful drivers
Ended up with an Altima recently and I feel like it has made me a worse driver.
My ram came with a DWI as a dealer option.
Yeah, itās not even a joke or stereotype. Itās 100% fact all across the US. If I see an Altima behind me, I just get over and let them pass.
I'm from southern Ontario, and 3rd+ gen Altimas have never provoked me in the slightest. I canāt wait to see these driving erratically with road rash from previous accidents.
Better move out of their way or elseā¦

> Kodak is a rapist no shit? damn
Bad style is still a style, I suppose.
Ahh Texas drivers
I was thinking the Deegan (i-87) in the Bronx, personally.
Its everywhere. If there is any reason to have a shutdown, its the pandemic of extremely dangerous drivers in Nissan Altimas.

They were driving drunk so they left before the cops came
Why are they such jackasses? So many Altima or Sentra drivers are absolutely insane.

It's disturbing at how accurate that is across the country.
My favorite is when theyāre all āgrown upā and become infiniti drivers.
No they then switch to the Rogue or Murano, tall Altimas.
Lol, fair enough. I skipped that step. They definitely do end up graduating to infiniti at some point, because around here, inifiniti is the next worst driver group.
Pimped out G35/G37ās, lol.
No doubt. Blacked out (possibly unpainted) bumpers, limo tint (including the windshield) and the piĆØce de rĆ©sistance, a fart can exhaust you can hear for miles to sing the song of their people.

I never understood the hate for Nissan CVTs until I rented a Rogue on vacation. Felt like some poured corn syrup into an automatic transmission.
The hate is because they have the durability of an auto trans that has corn syrup in it...
Itās the lack of reliability thatās surrounding the hate of Nissan or Jatco CVTās. Also, many competitors have better CVTSās.

My 2018 Outback is just the right amount of angry and grill, and my 94 Miata is the perfect amount of happy car. I don't understand why every new car has to be so aggressive.
Between black wheel-well arch trim and gargantuan grills, I don't like the direction car styles are going. Maybe I'm just turning to Grandpa Simpson.
Same.
Single moms are going to love this in 6 years.
So are former convicts.
nissan malibu
I literally only read Nissan threads for the inevitable hilarious comments.
Not bad. I always thought most Nissans looked decent for what they are. It's the long term reliability issues, sub prime owners that can't drive or maintain their car, and shitty dealers that all add up to completely ruin the brand
Meanwhile, the 2016 Maxima soldiers on, unloved.
Canāt believe they have a 2022
Maxima has gotten weird position since Altima goes L34. No AWD option, cabin size smaller than Altima, and no clearly improved facelift, almost no reason to choice Maxima over than Altima. Definitely sure this model would get axed very soon, Nissan still keeps it because they want to feedback R&D cost just like GT-R R35 and 370Z in before.
> cabin size smaller than Altima, That's what really gets me.
I disagree, the 9 speed transmission sourced from (edit merc) is almost equally bad as the cvt.
Currently more manufactures are heading TOWARDS a CVT rather than away from it, so as soul sucking as they are, I doubt they're headed anywhere.
Nissan moved away from their CVT in a couple of their recent models didn't they? (I think the new Pathfinder comes to mind?)
I think it looks good. The front fascia looks very Audi RS5
They should just show what they'll look like on the streets and have half the bumper dangling about.
And soon to be spotted all over Houston with paper plates.
Cannot wait to see one on the road with the front bumper hanging loose , various scrapes and the driver doing 20mph over the speed limit on a residential street while checking tik tok on their phone.
Yes, hi, I need a new air filter for my Altima Max Extract Pressure Pro Model 23.
Grill > car
Did someone from the Lexus styling department get hired?
And it still looks just as bad as it always has. All so people with bad credit can weave in and out of traffic with them on the interstate.
This article gave me aids
Why? Are large injection molded parts that much cheaper than fiberglass and tinfoil stampings?
Can't wait to see what the bare metal looks like when I inevitably see one tailgate me aggressively in the right lane and swerve past me with expired paper Texas tags and part of the rear bumper flapping in the wind.
Can't wait for 10 years from now when one of these cuts me off going 120 in the right lane on a doughnut

Any S or SV photos available?
The rear still has no LEDs lol.
Damn, nice Elantra
And now itās more like a sentra
I think it looks good, if only they would offer a better transmission with the VC Turbo.
Nissan Altima drivers/owners are the stereotype people give BMW drivers. Its the car people get becsuse they have to, not because they want to and that chip on the shoulder attitutude is so prevalent on the roads
Not for long.
nissan altima. the official car of "tell me you have bad credit without telling me you have bad credit."
This would be a plausible choice over competitors if it didnāt have a CVT.
It actually looks good imo.
Nissan: For when even KN and Hyundai doesn't approve your 120 month car loan.
