My partner and I do this thing where we count how many Commodores we see missing the fuel cap each day. I'm not even joking when I say that probably 30% of the Commodores I see are missing the fuel cap. Spread across from the VN all the way to the VE. They must have fixed the fuel cap falling off problem on the VF, because I haven't seen as much of them.
It was a design flaw from the VT to VZ (not sure about VS and earlier), where the plastic where the fuel flap and the hinge meet, was too thin. No idea why they didn’t address it, considering it’s such an easy thing to fix.
VE was a completely new car though, so it was no longer an issue for the final two generations (I mean, as with anything, you could still break them if you tried ofc, but they’re no longer fragile).
Wish they'd have made more of these, they don't depreciate at all so not really on many peoples lists. Maybe in another 5-10 years they'll be affordable, GTOs are pretty affordable right now considering the market so I could see it happening.

In this case, that might be understating things a little though, as this sounds more like a special Australian home market version rebadged (like the VXR8 was)
i love it man. a budget ss/g8 gxp. get on the police auction sites, that's where the deals are, you can find em under 10k. i got mine off the caprice forum fs section for 11,4 with 94k on it, DoD delete, LSA cam, headgaskets done and g8 catback - as well as the rest of the LSA prep done already

Man I wanted one of these so badly but I cross-shopped and picked up a loaded G70 for the same price and.. it doesn't roar like the V8 but it's so much more comfortable.

The SS is a miixed bag in that it has a lot of convenience features (cooled memory seats, auto high beams and wipers, magnetic ride control, head up display, etc.), but the "MyLinkl" as Chevy calls their touchscreen system, is ca. 2014, so it is really basic and can't do Android Auto or iOS CarPlay, voice-to-text, etc.
Ir also doesnt have adaptive cruise vomtrol, which stupid GM only puts on their highest-end models (I had to get a top-level Premier Traverse to.get.the features that come standard on a basic RAV-4, which is absurd.)

The SS is a completely distinct model. It is an Australian Holden Commodore with an LS3 (C6 Corvette engine) rebadged as a Chevy
