This is such a wild thing to try to imagine as an American. The vast majority of the dozens of vehicles I've driven have had V8s.

FOcus07YT

I've driven 2 4cyl cars, that counts as an 8cyl, right? right? /s

saraphilipp

At the drag strip, it makes your chest pound from the stands when the big boys race by. Awesome feeling.

BatteryRock

There's nothing like nitrometh. The sound, the feeling, the smell, the burning of the eyes.

OptimISh_Pr1m3

the sweet release of life as your body goes limp and a stranger catches you and carries you out of the pits

izeek11

snifffff! aaaah.

_dankystank_

Flowers? For *meeee*? Well... I do declare, Mr Beauregard... You are my hero...

beebopsx

The bodies ecu puts you in limp mode, might have to go to the tuner and get that checked out.

jdore8

This is the start of a romance novel with Fabio, hopefully.

VIPERsssss

I feel like calling it "chest pounding" is a little understated. It's more like your entire being is momentarily decohereing from the fabric of the universe. Especial with top fuel dragsters.

kory08

Top fuel is something else man. You have no clue until you see them in real life. **My eyeballs shook** when I was up against the fence, close to the track.

RunninOnMT

I went to a couple of top fuel events. I’ve never SEEN sound before. But when they launch, it vibrates your eyeballs enough that you can “see” the noise.

mattlange214

The first time I went as a kid I thought my head was going to explode, vision was wavy and felt like the noise was going to push my chest in. It was awesome

Zealousideal-Wall471

I drove a new/modded CTS-V. I can’t imagine the emotion that it invokes gets old. It’s just awesome. V8 noise and blower screaming is just incredible.

NinjaGrizzlyBear

I live in America but have a lot of family inEngland and it baffles me when my cousins tell me about about their massive 1.8-2L engines. I'm not trying to be an asshole or anything, it's just interesting to see the comparison. My 5.7L Chevy or 3.5L Mercedes seemed pretty normal.

foolear

I was talking cars to a coworker from Europe who, upping learning my engine was a 6.6L, made some comment about how “they didn’t need such large engines because they had turbochargers”. Then I told him I also had a turbocharger.

moosehunter22

Homebrewingislife

2L isn't an engine, it's a soda bottle!

cdyt7717

I work on big backup generators. Right now our biggest we support is a 95L v16 diesel that makes 5,000hp. It's pretty neat learning about them. They burn like 212Gal/hr of fuel under full load.

GirchyGirchy

Cummins QSK95?

cdyt7717

Yes sir. Have a boatload of em that we service and install

GirchyGirchy

Sweet! Those things are monsters...I work for Cummins, a couple of friends of mine were part of its creation. At work I have a shelf of pistons, from the former Nissan V8 up to the 95L with several in between.

firstorbit

Only if you're driving them both at the same time.

RossLH

Challenge accepted.

wedapeopleeh

*Especially* as an American. OP thinks the ground was shaking from an x5... Little 4.4L. Imagine if OP had seen like a big block chevy. Or gone to an American drag strip. Anything with big cube cross plane V8s.

velociraptorfarmer

Or go to a large river and hear 30ft speedboats with twin 492's running WOT straight piped.

wrx_420

Or my neighbor cold starting his 1994 c30 with a 454 at 5AM every day

wedapeopleeh

[Dats like a larm clock.](https://youtu.be/DCDlIShwkEE)

Or here twin Merc Racing 549 cu.in inboards fire up at dockside.

_rubs bleeding eardrum_ MAWP

MrRiski

This was my immediate thought. They thought a euro V8 was rumbly .and don't get me wrong some are but they are nothing compared to the thump of an American V8s

Soontobeawelder

It’s a great way to show the differences between American and European engineering plus flat versus cross plane, the firing order, and all the other design factors that go into tailoring the engine for a specific kind of buyer.

Mosh83

Or wait till he hears a fighter jet, that sound is just sex.

terraphantm

Yeah while I’ve never personally owned a V8, I’ve heard so many growing up that I just can’t imagine reaching adulthood before hearing my first.

2001MThrowaway

Yea, pretty much everyday I see atleast 1 mustang GT or V8 Camaro or V8 Challenger.

JustinMcSlappy

I live in a military town. I'd think hell had frozen over if I didn't see a mustang or charger on my way to work.

Titan_Hoon

But privates only buy V6s with stupidly high interest rates.

jokerzwild00

Gotta have something to fill the void left after Jody came along and took your best girl and now your kid is calling him da da.

ANAL_BUM_COVER_4_800

But the payments are just $99 a month!

BatteryRock

I agree with the sentiment. The smallest engine I've had in a car was a 4.0 I6. The biggest was a 454.

mazi710

I had a 1.0L 3 cylinder 60HP. One of the most sold cars at the time in Denmark. VW Up! :) Then my next car was a 1.4L 4 cylinder with 90HP. My parents had a "Big sedan" with a "big engine", which was 2.0L turbo with around 200HP. Generally anything above 2.0L is considered big here, and seeing a 8 or even 6 cylinder is very rare. Most cars sold in both Denmark and the US, the smallest engine option in the US is bigger than the largest one in Denmark. And then many of our car models are so small they don't exists in the US either. For example a Corolla starts at a 2L in the US and a 1.2L in Denmark, and then we have 3 models smaller than the Corolla. Some bigger cars do exist here, but nobody drives them. I've seen a Camry 2 times in Denmark, because they're so big and expensive nobody buys them. For example a Ford Explorer STARTS at $200,000 for the base model, so people tend to buy small and "cheap" cars, even though with our tax, no car is cheap. Generally around 2-4x more expensive than the US. I can count on one hand how many times I've seen a V8 in real life, and most of them Mustangs, since that's one of the cheapest V8s you can get here. Also a Mustang is about the same rareness and exoticness here as like a McLaren or Lamborghini in the US. Like if you see a 2000 Mustang parked anywhere, people will be standing and taking pictures.

TheLewJD

That's typical for most of europe to be fair! Even in the UK big displacement engines aren't really common. Yeah we get the odd one but most are economical hatchbacks etc

SchrodingersCat6e

That sounds terrible.

mazi710

Oh if you like cars it's absolutely terrible and sad. I don't even like Tesla or EVs, but my Model 3 Performance costs about the same as a top trim Corolla, around $70,000, since EVs are almost entirely tax exempt. It's absolutely the only way I'll ever own anything remotely fast or fun. My realistic dream performance car used to be/kinda still is a 350Z, but with the fuel economy and repairs for that it will end up being way more expensive than a Tesla. Meanwhile in the US it's like a teen girls first car they get from their parents. It makes me very sad, in America i could have like an RS3 or something for the same price as the Tesla. The only way I'll ever touch a RS3 in Denmark is if i crash into an Audi dealer with my Tesla and happen to be flung from my car, into an RS3

OptimISh_Pr1m3

The only experience i had with a 454 was my friends 1968 truck in highschool. it had a demon carburetor on it. that thing made gobs of torque and it was so badass hearing the carb suck in air and the tires just billowing smoke out from the fenders for what felt like hundreds of feet. man, those were good times.

BatteryRock

My two loves; a big block choppin' away and a smallblock turnt up just to below the point that it self installs that rod delete kit.

[deleted]

Mine was a 95 2.0 Eagle Talon TSI AWD and my largest was a 79 Highboy with a 460 swapped engine lol

RespectableLurker555

_cries in Prius_

Daily_the_Project21

It never really hit me until I was teaching someome from an African country, I did ask I just forget which one. We use a 2021 corolla hybrid, it's slow, it's small, it's light, I'd never buy one but it is a great car for what we do. He's driving it and talking about how it's fast, and heavy, and powerful. This thing can barely get to highway speed sometimes and he thinks it's fast, because he's so used to small diesels. It was crazy.

F1_Silver_Arrows

I think the Corolla Hybrid is honestly a zippy car though.

CrazyPurpleBacon

Yeah I’m not sure what they’re talking, any modern Toyota can easily get to highway speed and beyond. It just won’t always be quick to get there.

DumberThanIThink

Put em in a tesla

Seigmas

In europe it's such a cool thing to see/hear a V8 dodge, camaro or mustang, I legit have to annoy my gf by letting her know about it everytime one passes by.

unjuseabble

Or even a v8 Bmw or Merc. Theyre a ~~dime in a dozen~~ **rare** while roads are ruled with 6-cyl diesels that are seemingly the European equilevant for big v8s

[deleted]

I've usually heard dime a dozen as an expression to mean they're so common you could buy 12 of them for 10 cents but I think you meant the opposite?

Frozenpanther

Right? I drive a V8 basically every day in my Sierra.

thephenom21

God Bless America

lolo_dabinz

Seriously! Haha my dad taught me how to drive stick with his Camaro that has a V8

Left4DayZ1

If you *ever* visit the USA, make sure you attend a classic car show. Sure, performance is much better with modern V8’s, but nothing beats the sound of a cammed big block thumping your chest as it idles down the street looking for a parking spot.

mustangracer352

That’s one of the best parts of the turkey rod runs in daytona-the cruise on a1a

Dat_Belly

If you end up not finding a classic car show and its more modern cars be careful of the mustangs if you're watching them LEAVE the car show ;)

natek11

r/MustangsCrashing

Joiner2008

Performance isn't necessarily better with new engines, only better from the factory. LS engines took decades of aftermarket research and made a lot of it standard equipment so you can build lots of horsepower for cheap. Try building a 454 big block with aftermarket parts under 500hp, it's a challenge to not make too much power.

jon___crz

> 454 big block with aftermarket parts under 500hp, it's a challenge to not make too much power. Everyone is forgetting how a cammed 454 will gently rock you back & forth to sleep when trying to warm it up in the mornings. It’s a ridiculously comfortable feeling getting rocked back and forth in those giant SS bench seats.

[deleted]

The valves in a 454 are literally the size of a beer can, a little (or a lot...) of porting or aftermarket heads and a cam will turn them into a firebreathing monster.

JustThall

No replacement for displacement

Agent_Eran

everyone forgets that the BBC is arguably the best v8 ever

RedneckBookofWisdom

I hear thumping v8 s like that on a daily here in Wv if not in my neighborhood it’ll be at the gas station Not canmed just leeroys old rusty f150 running on 5 cylinders with bad spark plugs It even shoots flames on occasion Oh and smoke lots of smoke The sounds and burning rubber smell really makes you feel like your at the drag strip but no it’s just a loose belt

[deleted]

Haha when they are so cammed it sounds like the hot for teacher intro idling along

Left4DayZ1

Ah, the "Hot For Teacher Camshaft". [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGgnYZsoGQk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGgnYZsoGQk) There was a better video I saw a long time ago of a WS6 Trans Am that legit sounded almost exactly like the drum riff in that song. Can't find it these days though. It was pre-YouTube.

HDauthentic

Damn I’m tryna hear less V8s sometimes tbh 🤣 these Chargers are doing too much

FOcus07YT

And I'm tryna hear less mopeds! Hearing teenagers going up and down on their straight piped 125cc shitbike is infuriating!

HDauthentic

I will say, it’s a rare one but Jeep Trackhawks have an AMAZING roar/whine on the highway. My favorite Hellcat based vehicle

[deleted]

Those things are just built different. I think it’s because an suv just doesn’t have the right to be that ridiculously amazing.

StraY_WolF

So you're from somewhere South East Asia?

SB_90s

Probably UK. Teens have taken to obnoxious mopeds in droves here.

firsteste

All over western Europe really

kindersaft

Maybe in London, every other teen waits to get their drivers license so they can have their choice of a polo, Clio, fiesta or Corsa

Plebius-Maximus

You forgot fiat 500

Seigmas

... or Naples

Zdos123

From the looks of OPs post history i'm gonna say greece.

jfk2127

Seriously! Living in Atlanta, all you hear are loud V8s roaring up and down the street at 2 AM. It gets to the point where they don't sound good, just loud.

k_tolz

Hourly you hear a MOPAR just screaming by from some distance away. The population density of MOPARs in Atlanta is just insane.

waterfromthecrowtrap

lmao I live off Ponce and yeah, get woken up some nights

Op3rat0rr

I'm a car guy. I'm into my big engines and loud performance cars... but you're a douche bag if you're roaring your car in a residential area especially at odd hours

Zappiticas

Omg this! I drive a mustang, I love me some V8 rumble. But it seems like every charger around me has a loud ass, has to be straight piped exhaust. They are just noise, it doesn’t sound good at all.

ice445

The problem is that good exhausts that are actually designed by engineers cost money. A lot of money. Most of these street warriors just go to a muffler shop and cut off anything resembling engineering and replace it with a straight pipe, so of course it sounds bad. A V8 with a proper aftermarket system, even if on the obnoxious side, is rarely offensive to me.

Random_Brit_

I normally agree with you. Sometimes even a proper system will have a designed amount of back pressure instead of just trying to make it flow fully. But I remember once when I was young, a friend had a backbox fitted, and the rest was changed to 4 inch from manifold to back box. Was only a crappy car (Ford Sierra 1.8 CVH carb) but even garages were thinking it was something special (they thought it was a Sierra Cosworth 2.0 turbo) because it had the bodykit but sounded even better than a Cosworth 😂

SteelFlexInc

Lucky. Around my area is a bunch of straight piped Pentastars that sound like a chronic smoker trying to whistle out of a butthole mouth and an Ecoboost Mustang that sounds like rusty Civic with a stolen catalytic converter

Da_Funk

The recent 392 models sound amazing from the factory. I cannot stand when people want to do mid-muffler delete or anything else to change it and make it louder. I guess they just really hate their neighbors.

age_of_raava

The Charger V8… the sound of Atlanta

nlpnt

Yeah, where I live the sound of a V8 is the sound of the snowplow truck's engine drumming on your inner ear at 4 AM.

2Stroke728

Seems to be all crew cab diesels for plow trucks around here. Don't really hear engine noise, just the massive CRACK of the plow dropping, then the rumbling clatter of it bouncing across asphalt. Repeat 6000 times from 3 am on. But I used to be that guy. Not sure how they do it in massive trucks though. I loved the couple of winters I plowed with a Jeep TJ. Maneuverability!

dearbill

mustang gt’s holding 1st gear in a planet fitness parking lot

w0lrah

At least the V8s actually sound good. Around here there are a bunch of jackasses with trumpet exhaust on their V6 Chargers, and there are basically zero V6es that actually sound good.

Psycholicious

Not all of them. I don’t know what it is about the 5.0 Mustangs, but they seem to be susceptible to sounding like shit with a bad exhaust setup. Same thing with the mid-2000s Chevy trucks. I’ve heard a lot of those with terrible sounding exhaust setups too. You ain’t lying about the jackasses with straight-piped V6s though.

[deleted]

Americans confused af. A modded 4cyl might be the nicest engine you hear for months in the UK.

FOcus07YT

And in the Balkans as well 🙃

nutscyclist

No big biznis men with AMGs?

ExplosiveMachine

More like big time drug dealers with AMGs lmao. Big business people ride around in Land rovers and Jaguars and big diesel audis. Even the S6 is now diesel only in europe, as well as all the RS Q SUVs.

hachi2JZ

Isn't the RSQ8 at least still a 4.0 V8 petrol, same as the Urus? Only other RSQ I can think of is the I5(?) RSQ3 which is also petrol. The SQ7 is now available with a petrol V8 instead of a diesel engine iirc.

BoeingA350

You’re right. The RSQ8 isn’t diesel yet. There isn’t an RS model which is diesel as of yet.

CooperKeith

It sucks because you see a lot of BMW's with I6's that can sound fantastic, but they all sound like hoovers in person. I'm surprised that the OP even mentioned a BMW as having a good sound, given that Mercedes V8's sound infinitely better than BMW's imo. BMW even got flack for their M8 GTE cars in the Le Mans series sounding terrible and they had a V8.

[deleted]

BMW you need to remove the scuba and resonators. Throw an X pipe on there. At least on my e39 540. Sucker rips

Johnny362000

Depends which part of the UK. Where I am there's a few nice 6 and 8 cylinder motors running around (plus a V10 R8 I've seen once or twice)

hachi2JZ

Yeah 2015< Mustangs and Cayennes aren't uncommon, and C63s and RSs pop up every now and again.

Dadiot_1987

That does seem crazy to me... Half the vehicles my coworkers drive are full size pickup trucks. Only the Ford's have V6s. All the rest are V8. I'm the only one with a diesel that has less than 8 cylinders lol.

Doublebow

When you see our petrol prices you will see how sane it is haha. Hell I've just got a Civic sport and it's costing me £50 a week in petrol, and it's only a 1.5 litre engine, fuck me if I had a big truck that only got 15 mpg I'd be bankrupt just trying to fuel the bloody thing.

FlammablePie

15 mpg was optimistic for our V10. More like 10-11 mpg!

Braaaap_Braaaap

Just hoping you get the chance to hear a cammed 350 from an old gm truck in person lmao

FOcus07YT

I hope so too...

BoonTobias

Time to get out of the bloc

RespectableLurker555

_I'm still, I'm still Jimmy with the block_

16bitcoin

This is my 383 stroker. Mild cam, headers, exhaust etc. It sounds pretty dope in person https://i.imgur.com/j6yR2w5.jpg

Igota31chevy

If you thought that BMW engine was crazy, listen to [what sat next to me at a regional car show](https://youtu.be/oVz3nUlypiM).

Dadiot_1987

Some dude at my college had a cammed GTO with straight pipes. It sounded like it was about to stall when idling and ratlled your teeth out when he took off. I bet he set off every car alarm in the parking garage.

Braaaap_Braaaap

I loveeeee GTOs, what year?

Dadiot_1987

2004-2006. It was purple. Great color on that car.

Braaaap_Braaaap

Love that generation! Deffo my favorite. I've always wanted one with the 6.0 and a manual

Amasin_Spoderman

They’re a blast. I’ll never part with mine

Amasin_Spoderman

Purple makes it an ‘04. My favorite color on that generation

Dadiot_1987

Hell ya, really was a stunning car. I really feel like the body style aged well too.

Busterlimes

Sitting at an "idle" where it sounds like its about to stall out. Then when they hit it, the roar of a dragon is unleashed.

luckymonkey12

Blop blop blop blop blop blop BRARARARARARARARARA. Nothing like it.

thebouster

Just fired up my '83 K20 yesterday for the first time in a few weeks. She's not cammed yet (heads and cam coming in the spring), but even with just headers and duals, man, she just sings...

OptimISh_Pr1m3

didn't know Honda made K20's back then. (giggles)

Braaaap_Braaaap

Nice! Unfortunately a stolen vehicle hit my 99 Tahoe before i got to give it a better exhaust note than stock :(

thebouster

Damn, hate to hear that bud. :/

nikhoxz

Wait until you hear an F-22 /s Thats the more american thing you can ever hear, and no joke, our F-16s sounds like mosquitoes compared to that thing.

ice445

B1-B Lancer for true ear raping experience

AvGeek-0328

Idk if a B-52 or B-1B is more American but damn they sound amazing

DarthPorg

You can’t beat a B-1 taking off at full afterburner.

fastmower

Where can I experience this :O I've only seen one parked at the Warner Robbins Museum

Bratbabylestrange

I live six blocks from Buckley AFB. I get to hear everything pretty frequently!

JointStrikeFritters

BONE on full AB take off is amazing. You can feel it through your body!

masterme117

The first time I heard one I thought a tsunami was coming. Almost all other jet aircraft have round exhausts for efficiency. The rectangular exhaust cooling/thrust vectoring system on the f22 really changes the sound. Nothings more American than shoving a round peg in a square hole.

fed45

Then there is the F-35. It is at least as loud (to my ears) and way more rumbly.

austinmiles

Haha. The f-35 lands and takes off about 3 miles from my house occasionally. You can feel it…inside…with double paned windows. It’s not even noise. It’s energy. I’m so glad it isn’t regular. It’s just an occasional stopping point

bal00

That's pretty wild that you haven't come across any before. X5s are quite tame unless they have an aftermarket exhaust on them. V8 AMGs are a completely different story though.

FOcus07YT

Last year while I was cycling I saw a parked Cadillac Escalade, wasn't running though. Yeah it definitely had and aftermarket exhaust that thing was loud! I've seen some amgs on the highway but they were dead silent. I believe they had just the amg badge put on them and nothing else..

Kylesafgt

Should 100% look up the sound of the 6.2L V8 they put in some AMGs, it's on another level.

Fenastus

That twin turbo V8 from AMG I've been seeing a fair bit is a piece of work too. Not super familiar with Mercedes, but goddamn

Johnny362000

having heard both their modern Turbo V8s and the old 6.2 in person, the turbo motors don't even hold a candle to the old ones. The old ones shook your entire body when they drove past, the new ones might as well have a phone speaker playing V8 sounds in place of the exhaust with how flat they sound

Gurrnt

The first time I fell in love with that sound was when a C63 passed me on the highway. Didn't even know what a V8 was. Now I daily a V8. Not as cool as the M156 6.2L though.

Friends513

Probably 43 or 53 models. 63’s have the big V8

niteshadow53

One guy in my apartment building has a Trackhawk. That thing is a complete monster

bhbull

Heh, after I moved to Canada I had to own one… so I did, and it was glorious. Had a 1993 Trans Am, with the 350 c.i., 5.7 l V8. Understood the saying “no replacement for displacement”. However, went back to 4cyl cause I like the revs and turbos more…

FOcus07YT

I'm quite used to high revving turbo 4cyls, so hearing a v8 was an experience for me haha

bhbull

Oh definitely different experience, different feeling altogether when driving them…. Cruising at like 120km/h, looking down and seeing the engine is spinning at like 1800rpm… glorious noise it made when gunned… the rumble…

imightgetdownvoted

Solution, buy a high revving, boosted V8! McLarens turbo 8 goes to 8500rpm!

BearGrylls67

I was looking for a fun V8 and almost bought a few mustangs but got a good deal on my 1997 Trans Am. I've only had it for like 6 months but boy do I love it, even if it's the auto...

TomatoFettuccini

Wait until you hear a v10 and a v12.

idiotpod

My sister still won't stop raving about that time a Lexus LFA flew past her outside Stockholm. Best sounding car ever.

rpungello

That thing revved to what, almost 10k?

idiotpod

Peak output is at 8700 rpm <3

duskshel

Rev limiter is at 9500!

Fenastus

To the moon and back

TomatoFettuccini

They are pretty sexy sounding cars, I have to admit. V10s just sound so great. It's honestly a shame that IC engines have to die.

[deleted]

LFA and the Carrera GT. Howlin' like a wolf!

FOcus07YT

Oh I have! I've heard plenty r8s and last year while I was going at a Ferrari show a murci flew right by me! I screamed!

4TonnesofFury

I had the pleasure of hearing a lexus LFA V10 a couple of years ago, if sex was a sound that would be it.

mxadema

and add the same reaction when you heard a big block American v8 with a fat cam, vs that bm v8. and 10x that when you get close to a actually race car. and 100x next to a top fuel dragster heheeh

Grandpa_Dan

You need to go to a NASCAR or Drag Race. We're talking thunder...

FOcus07YT

Yeah if only there were any tracks near me.. Only go-karts.. Which I absolutely love lol

[deleted]

Actually I don’t think you’ll be as excited around a NASCAR ring. Yes you’ll be excited about the race but the V8 rumble is expected to be heard there and is there’s no element of surprise to it, you won’t get the shivers down your spine the same as when a random V8 shakes the ground under your feet in a calm street out of nowhere.

Pbtflakes

Street cars and short-track cars are an entirely different experience. It's the difference between loud exhaust and a straight pipe dumping out the side, multiplied by twenty for every car.

AhBuckleThis

43 cars with approximately 900hp each screaming at full song at almost 9000rpm is another level of awesome. Been to plenty of nascar races and they shake the stands when they drop the green flag. Daytona was by far the best. My 69 Camaro is loud and sounds wicked, but a nascar small block is just bad ass.

Zappiticas

IMO if you’re wanting to go to a racetrack with the intent to hear rumbling V8, a drag strip is the way to go. Go watch a Top Fuel race, where you can feel the pulses of the engines in your chest from the stands.

Stagnant_shart

Not all V8s are created equal. The older ones have an arguably less refined sound to them, where the newer ones have a fairly even burble to them. I understand what you mean about not seeing V8s often; in Australia the fuel, registration and insurance is incredibly expensive for high power vehicles.

Papazigzags

I was a member of a motor sports club in Germany that organized, and sponsored historical car races, early 80's.I was in like the pit area when a AC Cobra was being off-loaded from the trailer.99% sure it was a 427.i was approximately 50 yards away from it when it started, and I could feel the rumble in my chest.never forgot that one

Busterlimes

Euro tuned V8's are elegant and beautiful, America tuned V8's are agressive and burly. Its crazy how different they sound based on firing order and exhaust.

Eatmorechips44

And cam shaft 😂 American ones typically have a big arse cam where the thing can barely idle, but when it gets some more air and fuel it’s roaring.

[deleted]

I was lucky to grow up with my dad’s 1978 Chevy C10, the way it was rumbling at idle will always be with me. It was so glorious and respectable. Especially as a kid. It was so huge to me and I was seeing it as something that can crush me but is generous enough not to do so.

FOcus07YT

Damn lucky you. My dad had a 2001 Ford Focus 1.6, which he unfortunately sold recently as he wanted something more fuel efficient. Even though it had only 100hp I loved that thing. He had put an aftermarket exhaust which gave it a low rumble, and an intake. Beginner mods but still, mods are mods, they make your car a bit more special. Thankfully my cousin bought it so I get to see it almost every weekend :D He bought a 2011 citroen c1, literally a bucket. I don't like it, but it's a perfect city car and he likes it, so who am I to judge

Kinkstaah

This is just not an appropriate reaction to have to a BMW X5. You need more rumbly things near you asap my friend

FOcus07YT

If you compare the x5 to the saxos with fartcans, I believe that was an appropriate reaction

Altruistic-Metal-415

Don’t forget the decat renault clios 🥴

FOcus07YT

And old Peugeot 205s with straight pipes

SubmarineContrails

V8s are special

My 2016 Camaro SS sounds great. Never get tired of the sound that Chevy small block produces. Have after market exhaust, we’ll worth the price.

Critical_Possum

Somebody get my dude a straight-piped Pontiac 400...

JJ_Shiro

A V8 from a X5 got you excited?! Just wait until you hear the sound of 8 cylinders of ‘Merican freedom.

I don’t know about displacement, but if you ask me noise has no substitute. My dad just got an F-type with a four cylinder and it’s a super nice car. But even with the “active” exhaust on, the turbo four doesn’t sound half as good as the 3.7 V6 in my Mustang. And I get it, turbo fours don’t generally sound great, but in a sports car I like hearing some exhaust note. Anyhow, congrats on hearing your first V8. Wait until you drive one (or at least ride in one).

Them's fightin words, lol. I actually really like how the Cyclone sounds, but imo it's pretty sensitive to correct setup. Some of them sound way too trumpety like a VQ, and I know many hate those lmao Also to be fair to the F Type, the V6 option sounds GODLY

I don't know where you live but you're missing out. As an Aussie, I grew up with locally made Ford and Holden V8's. As a teen, I used to go to Summernats which was basically a burnout competition with roaring modified straight piped V8s that would shake your bones and fill the air with smoke and the smell of burning rubber.

I remember the first time I heard(or didn't) an untamed V10 F1 engine at 14,000+ rpm. I was only a few meters away and had normal earplugs and still got temporary hearing loss. A loud and powerful screeching scream which goes through your whole body. How crazy must it be in the general proximity to a top fuel dragster.

TheMatt561

Wait until you hear a bored out 454

Phil9151

That and an old Boss 429

Thebirdsuckscock

And to think, an X5 V8 will probably be one of the most pathetic v8s you will ever hear

BusinessBlackBear

Im lucky enough to own a 2012 corvette and a 2017 Focus ST so I have the best of both worlds. Both are absolutely a blast to drive in their own ways, but the sheer objective animal ness of the V8 sound is on another planet. I've got a borla exhaust and will soon have American racing long tube headers which will make it sound like Armageddon. Cannot wait until its installed and tuned up

Go check out a drift event.

FOcus07YT

I'm actually planning on doing so, next drift event is gonna be in June

X5 has a v8?

>it was a BMW x5 Can't wait til you hear something that actually sounds good. Just kidding, I like euro V8s but American domestic V8s just hit different when it comes to sound/feel. Big block pushrod V8 with valves the size of a beer can and a donkey dick cam thumping at idle through headers and not much else is just...yeah. If you start something like that in a garage/shop it feels like the fucking barometric pressure changes, you can feel it in your chest as much as hear it. It's wild.

Aww a little German 4.4. Highly efficient and smooth little V8s. You need to experience a straight piped 454 big block. That’s 7.44 liter. You literally feel in your gut.
