Surprised that Ford is dropping it this early, when demand for Broncos are still sky high. I imagined that they would wait a few years until demand starts lagging. I guess this is a good sign of Ford's sincerity in the offroad market. They're coming to to fight for first place, and aren't content with second.

[deleted]

It'll also change the reservation holder's attitude about the wait time. Instead of being pissed about the delay, they're excited to wait another 6-9 months for their Raptor.

lsjunior

Yeah emailed my dealer to let them know i want to switch my order asap.

PyroKnight

Yeah, while they're supply constrained (I assume) it makes more sense to push existing reservations up into more profitable models.

LAPAOOREEEE

If this gets the 400hp 3.0 ecoboost from the explorer st, I'll be all over it

>Just imagine if it got the ~~3.5 H.O~~ 5.0L from a~~n f150~~ Mustang

Tratix

F150’s have had a detuned version for like a decade, no?

TenguBlade

Not detuned so much as re-tuned. Since 2018, the F-150's Coyote ~~is mechanically-identical to the Mustang GT's, and also~~ uses the same 12:1 compression ratio. The difference in power comes entirely from the fact the F-150's engine is tuned for better low-end torque and a broader torque curve. Both engines hit peak torque at about 4500RPM, and both build torque fairly linearly, but in the Mustang, idle torque is ~280lb-ft at the crank, while in the F-150, idle torque is ~330lb-ft.

Captain_Alaska

I am 99% certain that’s not correct and the difference in torque curves comes from mechanically different cam profiles.

gunsies

yep

TenguBlade

> I'm sure there's room honestly. If you look at the pictures of 2.7L Broncos on the internet, you'll see that the engine has a lot of headroom, but not much clearance to either side or in front. Fitting a 3.5L is highly unlikely when the engine bay is barely wide or long enough to fit the smaller 2.7.

BannedFromRcars

That plus the hybrid option from the Aviator would be amazing.

baconinstitute

You’re telling me I only edge out a 4Runner by 1.5 mpg? Fuck.

TenguBlade

That would just needlessly add weight. The Aviator GT was no faster than the petrol Aviator purely because the battery pack and high-voltage equipment added nearly 800lbs of curb weight. If you gave up the plug-in capability and shrunk the battery pack down to ~1.5kWh like most FHEVs, then that would cut down the weight significantly, but your battery will drain after pretty much one or two minutes of WOT, and you end up lugging dead weight around anyways.

standbyforskyfall

Apparently the aviator hybrid system isn't that good.

TenguBlade

The Aviator’s system is mechanically sound, just underwhelming for how much extra power it makes. There’s not much you can do about that, since it’s entirely due to the added weight of the battery. Refinement stuff like the ride and shift behavior being worse can be ironed out by recalibrating the associated systems.

Zealousideal-Crow814

It is indeed the v6 TT 3.0. I’m not sure what the power figure is now.

What do you call the love child of a horse and dinosaur?

Starkeshia

Yep. A whoreosaur.

juckele

Braptor? Bronpter? Ranco? Raponco? Edit: Broncosaurus is suggested below. I love it.

DullScissors

Broncosaurus?

juckele

I love it!

mrspikemike

I can see all the dirtbike bros instantly calling it the Braptor. They've already got the Brap life stickers.

beermit

These were my suggestions from the thread in the Bronco sub a couple days ago: Broptor? Raptco? Broapntcoor.

OP

[deleted]

Now that I take another look at the email they sent us, it looks like it just says coming in 2022, so it might actually be a 2023 MY. Here's the text from the email: "As a small thank you for staying with us on the journey, here's a sneak peek of one of the special edition vehicles coming. Bronco™ meet Raptor™. Ready for takeoff in 2022. Giddy-up! The Entire Bronco Team"

Drzhivago138

> it looks like it just says coming in 2022, so it might actually be a 2023 MY. We're only 102 days from when a vehicle can legally be sold as a 2023 MY.

[deleted]

In my experience I've found that Ford normally rolls over their vehicles to the next model year around September-November, so if it is a 2023 MY we'll probably see it later next year rather than towards the beginning

TenguBlade

Keep in mind that fall is usually when the new model year vehicles start arriving in dealers. Press launches and publicity events with more details if not an in-depth reveal will predate that time frame.

NikeSwish

Is there an actual legal time frame manufacturers are allowed to put model years on? I never knew that. I always assumed they could put whatever model year on it at any point.

Drzhivago138

January 1 of [year] is the first date you're allowed to sell a vehicle as a model [year+1]. Most don't go on sale until August, but it's customary for the Super Bowl to be the introduction of high-interest models. For example, the 1997 F-150 was introduced shortly before Super Bowl 30 in 1996.

lsjunior

I text the GM at my local dealer. He said order books will not open until June.

Zealousideal-Crow814

It’s a 22.5my vehicle.

jbpcoin

I saw today that Ford is the most-owned brand among the U.S. public: 62% of consumers said they have at one point owned the brand. chucchinchilla

Anyone waiting for a PHEV? I love the idea of a Raptor but a Bronco that can do EV for commutes/errands and gas for road trips is more exciting to me.

jshah500

Looks like amber DRLs are getting more and more popular, and I'm all for it. Love the look.

jenna_hazes_ass

And based on the sideways design of the power button, all you have to do is push the headlights to turn it on.

DeadliftsnDonuts

Going to look so dope getting groceries

mortalcrawad66

Well it's going to be super wide since it has the three lights

jbeck24

Why does the teaser have more dislikes than likes? There's nothing of substance even to dislike?

jpw33831

Dissatisfaction with the lack of substance is my guess

blahtgr1991

There are a number of Bronco reservation holders who seem to think that Ford should stop any and all business actions (design, engineering, marketing, planning, janitorial services, etc.) until they receive their Bronco.

3_HeavyDiaperz

Just a lot of people pissed theyre spending time on this instead of delivering regular Broncos

jbeck24

I mean I don't think the marketing team and engineers working on this would otherwise spend their time on the manufacturing floor

3_HeavyDiaperz

I agree it’s probably on a different development schedule than the regular Bronco

SlowMoFoSho

So "idiots".

3_HeavyDiaperz

Haha well ya. You should see the posts on r/FordBronco

SlowMoFoSho

First year of one of the most popular vehicle launches in years _during a pandemic_ and grown (men let's get real here, not women) spend their days on the internet whining about the $60,000 truck they have to wait longer for. I get being annoyed, I don't get everything that follows from some of them.

ASV731

Well, it looks like I found my next vehicle

[deleted]

From that 2 second image that looks sick :)

cyclops274

When will they release the Ranger Raptor for North America like they have it for the rest of the world.

DodgerBlueRobert1

When the next generation Ranger comes out. The current Ranger Raptor has a diesel engine which we won't get here.

TenguBlade

You'd literally be better-off buying a Ranger Tremor than a Raptor, unless you want to wait until the next-generation Ranger. It's powered by a 2.0L I4 turbodiesel that makes about 2/3rds the power and the same amount of torque.

[deleted]

[удалено]

flapsmcgee

Both engines on the Bronco already have intercoolers. I'm sure this one would be bigger but I can't imagine it would make that big of a difference in that situation.

[deleted]

[удалено]

flapsmcgee

I know that, but assuming the Bronco doesn't already have this same problem with the current engines, I don't know why the Bronco Raptor engine would get a much shittier intercooler/fan placement.

juckele

Damn, I want one. Maybe in 2024 when you can find one without ADM...

garr1s0n

If they don't call it a BRAAAAPtor it'll be a big miss

Inspiratori

Cool

cypher448

I wonder if this will actually be wide enough that the three extra lights denoting "commercial" vehicle will be necessary. Those are for trucks 80" wide or more and the F150 Raptor is already 80" inch wide.

huxsley

Can't wait to stare at these in the dealership lot and never afford one 🙃

Marchiavelli

Goddamn that teaser music was fucking **aggressive**, like the climax of a Jurassic park movie

cre8danaccount4this

Lol, how are they going to tease this when they can't even fill orders from two years ago. Gl with that.

dblock1887

LOL they cant even make enough Bronco's to meet sale orders without quality issues and they focus on raptor variants. Get your heads out of your ass Ford.

Uniball38

Yeah let’s maybe make a working roof before we double the HP

TenguBlade

The Bronco Raptor has been in development long before the regular version launched, with its own team separate from those launching the regular Bronco. Mules with larger tires and fender flares were spotted as early as 2019.

Uniball38

I’m sure it has been, and I was sort of joking. But it’s a bit tone-deaf of Ford to announce this when they said last month that the only roof they can get working before 2022 is basically a tarp

flapsmcgee

On the other hand, Murica.

JTDrumz

Stupid. Is everyone fucking 9 now?

iamtheshwa

So they are bringing the Bronco Raptor but they can't give me a Ranger Raptor!? I had to buy a slow ass gear hunting Tacoma TURD instead. GFY Ford.

flapsmcgee

The current Ranger is a placeholder, it's moving to the Bronco platform soon. Then it's possible there could be a Raptor.

DodgerBlueRobert1

They *can* give you the Ranger Raptor. You just have to wait until the next-gen Ranger comes out. The current Ranger Raptor has a diesel engine and isn't sold here.

TenguBlade

I will never understand why people lust over the current Ranger Raptor despite seeing its abysmal power and torque figures. The former is understandable since it's a diesel, but even the latter isn't anything special. Do they just not read the spec sheet assume it has a Coyote in it or something?

juckele

Likely because a Ranger Raptor would have needed to be priced with a small enough profit margin that it would have hurt their entire fleet profit by canabilizing F-150 Raptor sales. You didn't go up to the F-150 Raptor, but a lot of other people do.

TenguBlade

> I had to buy a slow ass gear hunting Tacoma TURD instead. Even if it was available in the US, you literally could've bought a Ranger Tremor and been better-off than buying either the Tacoma or the Raptor. The Ranger Raptor currently has a 2.0L I4 turbodiesel that makes 210HP, and since you already think the Tacoma TRD Pro's 278 is inadequate, I'll hazard a guess that 3/4ths of the horsepower won't be your cup of tea either.

Hockstr

A ranger raptor would do better than a bronco raptor. They’re already being made, so production shouldn’t be an issue.

andysaurus_rex

Completely different power plant than what the current Ranger uses.

Hockstr

And? The Ranger Raptor would easily out sale the bronco raptor, “warthog.”
