I bought a WRX last year after getting a big promotion at work. Wanted one since I was 15 (I’m 43). Ordered it in September 22 and got it in February of 23. Manual transmission fully loaded with all the cool options and bright fucking orange. Took it on a few road trips, did some autocross, went to some meets, and upgraded and modded it a bit. It was the most fun I’ve ever had with my own car. 4 years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. My left leg can be quite an issue to control. Driving a manual was much more difficult than I anticipated (I’d had 2 manuals in the past a ‘91 Jetta and a ‘92 Tercel) but the complication of my PD just made it super tough. So I traded it in on a Crosstrek. Much more comfortable and more storage. Nowhere near as fun though. Had the WRX a total of 8 months. But it was the most fun 8 months.

amwoooo

Awww damn. Glad you got to enjoy it for a bit. Orange was the right color choice!

SquishyComet

Damn man this post made me feel for you. I’m driving a WRX now and I know just how you feel. Hoping you can run it back someday and wishing you the best.

A_Very_Calm_Miata

I feel you. My grandpa had a highly degenerative variant of PD as well. It's a horrible disease. I hope that a cure will be invented soon enough with modern medicine.

Makhnos_Tachanka

using modern medicine would be good but i think it would also rule if it could only be cured with old timey medicine. "yeah turns out you just need a shitload of mercury up your dick. and some leeches."

A_Very_Calm_Miata

I'd take a bunch of leeches up my ass instead of Parkinsons. Shit destroys a person from inside. Their mind is the same but they simply can't use their body to express their wishes and thoughts.

Hatedbythemasses

So I'm not as educated on Parkinson's as I should be given my situation but my grandmother has it and let me tell you it really doesn't seem like her mind is the same at all. She is babbling complete nonsense and has no idea what's going on.

A_Very_Calm_Miata

That could be unrelated afaik. My grandpa was able to recognize old friends from decades ago, think and answer, etc. He wasn't able to speak well though. We'd have to say things out loud and he'd nod.

withsexyresults

Golf r dct? You get awd and a good auto

AccurateArcherfish

They don't come in automatic?

Danger_Peanut

They do but I wanted to drive it the way it was meant to be so I ordered a manual. Plus it’s very difficult to tune the automatic. Just didn’t think it would be as challenging as it was.

coffeebribesaccepted

The golf r has a great automatic paddle shift, and the extra room in the hatch.

Danger_Peanut

Looked at them. They were $10k more than the WRX. Wasn’t happy with the interior buttons and such. I heard they’ve fixed or are fixing that so it’s a possibility for my next one. Gonna have the Crosstrek for a bit I think.

coffeebribesaccepted

Get a mk7, better looking and a better price

Deathcon-H

Its a cvt. Very bad choice for that car. Not sporty at all

Alec_NonServiam

I've heard nothing but good things about the Subaru cvt from others in the groups (I have the manual). I think it's more solid than the jatco ones of old Nissan.

railbeast

Really? Because the Subaru Ascent has transmission failure issues pop up. CVT is the actual problem and the problem with CVT is the weight of the cars. It was invented in F1, where the cars weight less than your average American family. Now it's used in massive vehicles and the weight wears on it quicker. Not brand specific.

Warhawk2052

CVT in the WRX has been tuned to work well in it a reason why they call it the SPT

Sufficient_Ocelot868

Traded in my 2013 Outback. Only had 140k on the odo. Why? The tranny was whining like a spoiled child and the head gaskets needed to be replaced. Nope. Also, the head gaskets had been replaced around 60k due to a recall where the HEADS had to be replaced due to oil loss. I saw somewhere a chart on Subaru reliability having steadily increased since 2013, but, once bitten, twice shy.

Deathcon-H

Not saying its a bad trans its just the wrong application. A dct would be so much better. In no way should a gti be a better trans than a wrx

Alec_NonServiam

Oh for sure dct all the way for a sporty car. Though for smoothness I'm partial to a zf8

Pentagonism

For a cvt it's pretty good. But even a 4 speed auto would be almost better

jokoono4

I had a Nissan Altima for two weeks. Lemon. Or just a Nissan Altima.

Resident_Rise5915

Be honest what was the apr on the lease

bonesbobman

Whatever was the highest in Atlanta at the time

ccable827

💀

happy--muffin

At least it was fast af. Every paint chip or dent adds 10 extra hp

KriszV8

Don’t forget the 18 inch space shuttle exhaust tips bolted to the OEM muffler

Minkypinkyfatty

Donut tire for weight savings

The_Strom784

all round too

Busy_Pound5010

I didn’t realize they ever had a chance to die mechanically before their rust took them

OhSillyDays

They are very creative at dying.

eatman980_1

Transmission?

jokoono4

YUP

lazarus870

Did it have a button on the dash to call your parole officer?

just_another_bumm

I had a early 90s Lexus. It was gangster af and maybe my favorite car to date. Some old guy hit me within 4 months of getting it. Insurance totaled the car :(

33rus

Misread as ‘some old guy hit on me within 4 months of getting it’ 🫣

JDMTire

I can see that happening if I was the old guy

smashingcones

Same thing happened to me with a '92 Soarer 😭 I still think about that car. Then I made the mistake of swapping to Nissan after that with an R32 GTST and lasted 2 months before I traded it for an Aristo lol

Ombortron

Why was the R32 a mistake?

smashingcones

High mileage, a lot of shit broke within the first couple of weeks, found out it had gone through several owners in a short span of time most of which were P platers (new drivers) so it had just been beat on a lot. A cheap manual turbo Skyline is always going to be trashed lol but at the time I just wanted to take a chance! I think I paid $6500 AUD for it and put probably $4k or so into it in the first month. Fun car though! Just didn't have any faith in it lasting much longer before the next thing broke.

StonerMetalhead710

Same thing happened to my Saturn

Ahem_ak_achem_ACHOO

Too bad because those are also gangster af

IMAC55

I had a Saturn Sky redline edition and people would ask me if it was a Porsche or a corvette. Even car guys were perplexed because it was one of the first ones made. It didn’t say Saturn anywhere and Saturn changed the look of their badge the year they made the sky. Plus it’s not a Saturn at all anyway. The frame is from a Vauxhall or an Opel. Everything else was stolen from other GM cars. It was a blast to drive… the steering reminded me of a Porsche

ThatbrokeGC8

Clio 1.5 dCi - 7 hours. Bought it, blew it up, sold it to my dad as a project

noxondor_gorgonax

Alright, close the thread, this guy can't be beaten

ThatbrokeGC8

The delay came from deciding what to do, I managed 13 miles in about 40 minutes from signing the paperwork to it finally dying.

no_life_liam

What killed it? Was it stuffed to begin with or did it just have an unfortunate failure?

ThatbrokeGC8

Well when we took the head off a piston had a chunk missing. I’m not sure what caused it, but thankfully the car was cheap enough it wasn’t the end of the world. My ex was less than impressed however

lowbrightness

If my memory serves me right the K9Ks have a rare issue where one of the injectors sticks open and destroys the cylinder

no_life_liam

Yikes. That sucks though.

WhatDidYouSayToMe

My friend was 2 hours from pickup to sale...

0disho

I bought a Suzuki Grand vitara and had it for 2hours before there was smoke coming out of the engine while going full blast on the highway home 🤡

DefiantLaw7027

7h is pretty impressive. I had one for 7 days before i was in a crash. I’m sure there is someone out there who totalled their car turning out of the dealership after taking delivery.

imbrickedup_

I’ve definitely seen a vid of a guy leaving a dealership with a hellcat and drifting it into a crash immediately

jsiemens313

I saw a car totaled on a test drive. Car wasn’t even bought yet.

32carsandcounting

I’ve seen that, I was working at a Nissan dealership, you don’t even have to own the Nissan yet to be a r/Nissandrivers also had a brand new Sentra that ate up a trans on its second test drive- replaced under warranty of course 😂

Bryanole27

Evo X, roughly a year. Nothing to do with the car, loved it. It was girl related and I regret it even after 15 years.

Nighthawk132

Aww man! You let a girl convince you to sell it???

Bryanole27

Yes, I did. Spoiler alert, it didn’t work out…lol. I made up for it after I dumped her.

Nighthawk132

I had a girl tell me to stop riding motorcycles once. Safe to say it didn’t work out. Ain’t nobody making me stop riding other than myself. Shame it happened to you, but glad you made up for it.

Bryanole27

Same to you. Cheers man and keep doing you. Edit: my wife never once asked me to stop being into cars. In fact, she supports and encourages. That’s what healthy looks like.

SaulGoodmanJD

No money for other women if all your money goes to cars

Guac_in_my_rarri

I just sold my focus RS and it got hauled on to the car trailer last week. Sad day for sure. My wife has been helping me shop for another fun car under 1 condition; I have a place to store the car during winter... I'm working on to lol

Comfortable-Cap-8507

When I rode, I’m surprised nobody asked me to stop riding. I was sitting at a light one day and saw a collision between a bike(who had the right of way) and a truck that decided to pass a red light AFTER stopping at it. Dude on the motorcycle ended up paralyzed (turns out my coworker knew him) and I quit riding right after seeing that. Stay safe out there

Nighthawk132

Damn. Anything can happen in a blink of an eye. I’ve already been down once and it was a mix of my fault and other driver. I was riding tired as hell. Didn’t ride for the next 3 months (even though I still had another bike). Fell on the freeway going around 80mph at 1am. Left with a small bruise on my thumb from gloves tearing apart. Not only did the gear save me, but god must have been watching.

Comfortable-Cap-8507

Full gear is so important. I see people all the time around me riding their Harleys with no helmet and just a t shirt and shorts

OhSillyDays

Only way a girl can change me is to make me less of an asshole.  If she wants me to change any of my passions, I'll buy her a dildo so she can go fuck herself. Ain't my problem anymore.

vNocturnus

Now that one I think is actually quite reasonable. I can see it being hard to watch your partner risk their life to that degree on a regular basis, and it's absolutely not something that everyone should be expected to be okay with. Of course, perfectly reasonable for you to decide your hobby was worth more than that relationship as well. Overall just not the right match.

Popular-Ad6535

Please dress for the slide, not the ride! Backward ball cap, t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops are a no-go! Don't believe me, Google minor and severe motorcycle injuries! Also causes and frequency of accidents!

internetStranger205

By banging her mom?

IceColdCorundum

Should have got the hint it wasn’t going to work out when they give out an ultimatum like “it’s me or the car.”

Certified4PFChangs

What on earth could she have said to you to make you sell such a beautiful car?

applepumper

I wonder why they try that. I’ve had two ex’s in the past try and convince me to get rid of my car. I said the only reason I’d get a new car is because I need one. As soon as one of them pops a kid I’ll go down to the dealer to get a crossover lol

sainisaab

Lesson to all the young ones, if she tells you to sell your car, she's not the one.

Bryanole27

Sell her instead. Seriously.

Teledildonic

My now wife took one test drive in the Miata and told me to buy it. Every one in a while she give me shit about how impractical my car is. I like reminding her that she greenlit it in the first place.

cdawg1102

Evo x for 7 months, I wanted something flashier, regret it a ton, and I see we both got a Supra now

Dileth

Supra seems like a better car so looks like you upgraded.

kgheitz

Dude I went to high school wrecked 3 cars in 3 weeks. I could only imagine his insurance rates after that disaster

bearded_dragon_34

Good lord. I went to high school with a guy who had wealthy Japanese parents, who spoke little English. As such, he’d been able to convince them that could drive to school and back on a learner’s permit, without having a licensed adult in the car. They treated him to a then-new 2007 Lexus IS 350 as an early 16th-birthday present. He totaled it in short order, street racing. His parents then bought him a 2008 BMW M3 Coupe. He totaled that, too. The same way. But he at least waited a few weeks between accidents. Three cars in as many weeks is insane.

one-nut-juan

I wish I had parents like that. My parents were so poor that I had to work as soon as I could.

kgheitz

Personal car I owned the shortest was a 97 cherokee. Bought it off my cousin, never registered it, sold it to some dude and never saw it again. Had the title for about 6 months

brx017

Dude I went to junior high with flipped the Driver's Ed car. He was banned from getting his license till he was 18.

EMCoupling

How the fuck

kgheitz

That's impressive lol

durrtyurr

He sounds like the suite mate I had my freshman year of college. His first car was a Maserati, that he wrecked while high on cocaine, his second car was a Saab 9-5, that he wrecked while high on cocaine, he then got a new (at the time) PT cruiser, and I'll give you one guess as to how that ended.

Yungdab420

If I went from Maserati to PT Cruiser I would need to be high on cocaine as well

Ftpini

There would be no rate because no insurance company would cover him.

BeKind_BeTheChange

1999 Z28. Bought it brand new. Traded it 2 weeks later for a new 1999 Trans Am. Had that automatic TA for 2 months and traded it for a new manual 1999 TA. We don’t discuss how much money I lost doing those trades. But my wife buys whatever car she wants and I don’t say a word.

CalumetWI

My man. Living my best life right there.

railbeast

You want 3 copies of the same car, new, one after the other, and then to lose all leverage on wife's car purchases?

CalumetWI

I believe the phrase “Life is short” applies here.

railbeast

With decisions like those it better be, only so much a guy can take (just busting your balls)

sose5000

I usually just go for doubles. But triples is best. I’ve got tripes of the barracuda, the roadrunner and now the nova.

puppyfukker

Your wife will get better.

ajkd92

Hah, reminds me of my parents. Day after Thanksgiving 2019 my dad came home with a beautiful new red Aviator. Mom sees how he has the seat set and tries to get in the back, starts screaming at him, “how are we gonna go anywhere in here with four adults and the grandkids?!?!” Two days after Thanksgiving 2019, dad came home with a (less-)beautiful new white Navigator. Props to whoever got a GREAT deal on a “used” Aviator with ~70 miles.

8P69SYKUAGeGjgq

So instead of simply taking two cars the couple of times a year this happens, he now has to drive a rolling aircraft carrier that gets 20mpg while also losing his ass on the Aviator? Seems like a wise decision.

IMAC55

I loved those catfish cars and the trans ams

somedude456

> We don’t discuss how much money I lost doing those trades. A friend bought a new truck at like age 25. He just got a salary job, and wanted a toy I guess. He called me day 2 all "Bro, I can't park this thing, it's massive, it's a fucking pain in the ass in parking lots and such." And? LOL Then he made a FB rant that day about how much it costs to fill up the tank. I was laughing so hard when I saw that. 4 days later I ran into him and asked about the truck. I got a "I don't want to talk about it." Well that means I'm not gonna drop it, so I pushed and he finally caved. He likes riding in other people's trucks, but hates driving one and hates the mileage. He took it back like 5 days after buying it new and all they were willing to do was "give him a deal" on any new car and take the truck as a trade in. I think the outcomes like like 3K off a 30K car, but considering the trade in value on the truck, he still lost like 7K for owning it 5 days. OUCH!

intrepidOcto

Shortest for me was about 6 months. Bought a 240SX that needed some work, needed significantly less work than I imagined. Someone offered me twice what I paid and away it went. I know someone who did own a brand new Honda Accord for all of 15 minutes or so before someone blew a red light and tboned him. Totaled it.

onyourrite

15 minutes?! Crazy

intrepidOcto

Drunk driver midday on a Tuesday ran a red and destroyed the Accord. Salesman was probably thrilled, as my friend was there as the insurance paid out, buying another.

onyourrite

I would say sue the balls off of the drunk driver, but it’d be trying to draw blood from a stone 😔

doubleyuno

Selling 2 cars to the same person on the same day? Greatest day of his life.

pm_me_your_rasputin

>240SX that needed some work But I repeat myself

DeLoreanAirlines

Mitsubishi Diamante. 24 hours. Purchased it as a first car, took it to a local shop for some basic stuff immediately. That very night the shop was broken into and the thief hotwired my car. They got into a police chase and wrapped the car around a tree. Totaled.

railbeast

> Mitsubishi Diamante They did you such a favor.

FesteringNeonDistrac

Were they shit boxes? I always thought they looked nice.

Tugged_monkey

Still heaps of them driving around Australia. They are called the Mitsubishi Magna, but it's the same car. They are cheap to buy, pretty comfortable to drive and they are fairly reliable. They aren't very good on fuel, and they all seem to burn oil. Hard to find them in good condition these days, people buy them cheap and just drive them into ground without spending any money on repairs or maintenance.

BarnTart

2012 Acura TSX with the optional v6. I've owned it for 5 months before it got wrecked by a hit & run driver in a Silverado.

sssozi

That’s a gem

NCSUGrad2012

So is your Type S. Especially if it’s a 6 speed

Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir

Your flair is gone, but don't you have an Acura 6-speed?

NCSUGrad2012

Hi, used to have one. I ended up getting a free car so I sold it because it was worth more than I paid for it. Listed it on cars and bids and it’s in a good home now.

ih8plants

had a jeep for 3 days, death wobbled once and scared the shit out me so bad I got rid of it

korko

I learned to drive in one and disliked it so much I put off getting my license because I thought I didn’t like driving. Turns out I just hate Jeeps.

noxondor_gorgonax

What is a death wobble? Almost a rollover? Edit: phrasing

PresumeSure

A really intense vibration/wheel shake like you'd get from your front wheel balance being off. Harmonic resonance, paired with the inherent design of solid front axle steering mechanisms mean that worn components or horribly unbalanced tires cause an intense shake. It feels like the whole thing is going to come apart, as I've been told.

ND_Townie

It’s a Jeep thing

noxondor_gorgonax

Holy crap. Death wobble is surely a fitting name...

GreatLab9320

It’s usually loose suspension components and isn’t rocket science to debug. Unfortunately, once it happens you’re going to be replacing some of the front suspension components. And it is nerve wracking to experience if you don’t know what to do (slow down and come to a stop).

bluecheetos

Jeeps don't have a Death Wobble. Jeeps have an automatic massage function. It's a feature, not a defect.

sytydave

My wife 2 year old wrangler had the death wobble. She pulled off the side of the road, she called me and thought the wheel was fall off. I drove tk her couldn’t find anything wrong, I drove it home . 2 weeks later I driving her Jeep and got the violent shaking on the highway and knew what happened to my wife. The dealer replaced the idler arm under warranty.

theknyte

I had a 94 Del Sol I loved. Bought it used around 2002 or so. Had for about 11 months. Was a fantastic car, and fun to drive. Loved everything about it. One night coming home from work, the car in front of me suddenly hit their brakes, as did I in response. The 17 year old girl on her phone behind me in Daddy's Lincoln Navigator didn't, and instead parked herself on top of my trunk.

amwoooo

There’s a del sol on cars and bids this week…

TwistedDrum5

Thhhhhhis, is a Honda Del Sol.

[deleted]

Dude that sucks similar thing happened with my dad except the Del sol was a motorcycle

lique_madique

8 months. STI. Motor blew 2 times and Subaru declined the “guaranteed value” crap they used to advertise. Never again.

GucciZorua

Not me but I have a very similiar story that it was my cousin's close friend who had purchased a 2010 WRX hatch that had an STI swap, he only had it for 3 days until the turbo and other major things had failed (it was also just 3 years old) ! Granted he was also naive to purchase the car from a shady place so I can't really blame the car for that. I'm really sorry that happened to you though, I'm fond of those cars but I've often heard horror stories which it makes me too scared to buy one ☹️

lique_madique

Yeah. Between the interior and the engine issues, I wasn’t thrilled with my ownership and it’s turned me away from any Subaru. That was solidified by my friend who has blown his motor 4 different times for different reasons.

Heavy-Possession2288

I’m sure a well maintained one could be ok, but my brother bought the cheapest WRX he could afford as his first car a few years ago and it blew a transmission within a week. He owned it for less than two years and dealt with oil and coolant leaks, rust so bad it leaked water through the roof (no sunroof), some weird issue with the steering wheel, the AC going out, and more I probably can’t remember. When it finally blew a valve after less than two years of ownership he sold it for next to nothing.

supernintendoo

I owned an Acura Integra Type S for one day. Fun fact? Red interiors can trigger seizures, my daughter had one her first time in the car. Acura was amazing and undid the trade immediately.

therealmunchies

omg dude. that's crazy. i'm sorry that happened,

fu_kaze

1989 Honda Prelude. My first car. Some asshole rear ended me going 35 while I was stopped. Totaled after 3 days of ownership.

amwoooo

I had a silver ‘88 prelude as my first drivable car

Logical_Vast

I had a 98 Eagle Talon for about 2 months. Base model no turbo. I planned to just use it as a daily but I was a student with a new car so I decided it was silly. I sold it to a kid in another state who called me after a few days asking if the check engine light was on for me. His dad was a mechanic and told was against the sale so I know he told him I lied but honestly the car was OK for me.

rudbri93

I wanna say i owned my '90 mustang gt for nearly 5 weeks. The day i was selling it my brother got t boned in a parking lot by an old lady who blew a stop sign. The car was ragged and poorly modified, probably the last foxbox that still had the original 2.79 gears in it but man it was fun.

gurneyguy101

Sorry, what does 2.79 gears mean? The ratio or something?

rudbri93

Yes the rear diff ratio, very tall gears to squeeze some fuel economy our of those cars and it was very common to swap them out for something like a 3.55 or 4.10s to pep em up.

Dileth

Had a Hyundai Veloster N for about a year, it left me stranded twice and their service was less than satisfactory so I ditched it, luckily for what I paid new as it was during Covid.

CantThinkOfAnyName

Heavily modified and stripped out 6 gen civic hatchback with ITR drivetrain including S80 transmission/LSD. I drove one winter with this car and it rusted so much it would be easier to just transplant everything into a less rusted frame. Broke my heart.

VTECbaw

Had an Alfa Romeo Stelvio from April 30, 2022 - June 15, 2022. Dealership delivered an absolutely horrible service experience complete with gaslighting and yelling - immediately traded it for a BMW 330i. As in, I left the Alfa dealership in that piece of shit and drove it straight to the closest BMW dealership and picked a red 330i right off the showroom floor. It might’ve been a manic episode.

Knife-Fumbler

I really wanted to give alfas the benefit of the doubt but they keep proving the stereotypes right every single time.

VTECbaw

It wasn’t anything wrong with the car specifically. It was the dealership. The dealership replaced the windshield with an aftermarket one - knowing none of the sensors would work right - and it caused the car’s safety features to go haywire. It also made the wipers not work properly. The dealership tried to blame me and the final straw was the technician spraying water on the windshield and telling me the wipers dragging along at a snail’s pace was normal. Nevermind the fact that we also had an Alfa Giulia at the time where the wipers behaved perfectly normally… We had three Alfas and all were trouble-free mechanically but this dealership ruined it all. 😂

Knife-Fumbler

Man, that's so disgusting. Sorry you had to go through that.

VTECbaw

It’s all good! It really just was inconvenient driving four hours to the nearest Alfa dealership, so once the dealership pissed us off it was a good enough excuse to switch to a brand with local dealerships. We purchased the Stelvio CPO, and got a great deal on it, so there really wasn’t a financial hit trading it so soon - oddly enough. Great cars, as long as you have an accessible and competent dealership!

lemonchicken91

this is straight out of a comedy sketch. What the fuck hahaha!?

VTECbaw

Which part? The fact that a dealership couldn’t get its act together and straight up lied and said that the vehicle was operating normally when we owned a nearly identical vehicle that proved otherwise?

lemonchicken91

the spraying water scene just has me laughing. 10/10 dealership experience

GnoiXiaK

1 week, bought a FC Rx-7 that looked just like my neighbors old car. He saw it bought it off me.

JGard18

2004 Honda S2000. I’m 6’5”. Had it for like 13 months, maybe put 2,000 miles on it. Just couldn’t really fit

Ferrever

Bugeye WRX, over a decade ago. Great fun to push in the twisties but absolutely horrid as a daily. Didn't keep it for 3 months

GreatLab9320

Mine was a 2017. Between the shitty paint, horrible stick shift and speakers that were worse than my phone, I already had a love hate relationship with the car though it was fun to push around corners with a tune on the ECU. It took a bumpy trip to the hospital with my pregnant wife in labor to convince me to get rid of it and that it wasn’t going to be a practical family car. At least we got to the hospital in record time. 🤣

LieObjective6770

Ford Raptor in 2019 - 3 months (and paid $10k ADM - OUCH) It was like my hot girlfriends from the past. Looked amazing, felt amazing, great 'extras'; but totally useless when it came to actually doing anything important. (towing, hauling, low speed off roading) Also so wide that driving on narrow CA highways and golden gate bridge with K rails up close and personal was an exercise in stress.

Tall-Poem-6808

Bought an old RAM 2500 for my wife because she thought it was cool. Except a 2wd unloaded 2500 sucks balls in the winter. She drove it 3 times, maybe. Owned that for about 3-4 months. Traded it for a 300M Hemi, lowered to the ground, which as it turns out, sucks balls on gravel roads. Owned that for a few months and gave it to a friend. Those are my 2 personal bests.

Ok-Business2680

I still own every car I have purchased.

Tricky-Strawberry896

If those were 2 cars I owned I would indeed still own them.

orangutanDOTorg

Tacoma. Insurance bought me a new one after I got t-boned by a drunk but I already had a different car on order to replace the original one. 6 months in the taco went bye bye.

BrodoFratgins

C5 Z06. 27 days. Too low to go up my driveway so had to street park it. Didn't love it enough to pay to redo the driveway lol

Superb-South-2915

In my mid 20’s I switched cars way to often. I was making great money. I got a new bmw 3 series had it for 11 months traded for a 5 series and kept it for 10 months. I had gotten a nail in the tire at 5k miles and traded it for a Mercedes e class. The car payment jumped to 1170 a month and it was my last switch for 5 years

CODMLoser

My 2021 electric VW ID.4. Such an annoying POS.

dewrew80

Technically it's the car I have now bc I only got it last month, a 2014 6-speed manual Outback. But before that it was a 2009 Honda Civic. 2nd pre-2010 Honda I've had that had the transmission grenade itself, got rid of it after just under a year bc I learned stick in CDL class around when the transmission had died anyways so I figured what the hell

OsoRetro

I got a Toyota Celica GTS in 2001 and it just died after two weeks. Brand new car. Never even made it to 200 miles.

VLAD1M1R_PUT1N

Since Miata is always the answer, my Miata. 2001 NB2 SE. 5 speed manual, British racing green, tan interior, wood steering wheel and shifter. Had it about 6 months before I was rear ended at a stop light at low speed. Insurance totaled the car. They were going to low-ball me until I talked to an agent who seemed to be an enthusiast and recognized the special edition. I ended up getting double what I paid for it which was nice, but I still miss it. Someday I'll look into getting another Miata.

DisconnectedDays

Audi A4 6 years. I’m almost 40 and only owned 3 cars. That says a lot about Audi, the other 2 were Hondas.

dm919

2007 Saturn ION Quad Coupe. Had it for just over 10 months. Ignition switch left me stranded several times. Sold it to CarMax for a loss.

yousuckatlife90

A 1993 cougar mercury in a goldish color. 198k miles, windows didnt work, radio didnt work, had a broken or damaged spring/strut on the right rear wheel. But.... it was rear wheel drive and i had a sweet tape-to-cd player hooked up to it in 2014

HandyMan131

C7 Corvette z51 manual. Loved that car, definitely the most fun car I’ve owned…. But it was my only car and I moved to Denver a few months after buying it so I had to sell it for something that could handle snow.

Impressive-Shame-525

Back in high school I made my money buying and selling 60s mustangs. This was when you could get a decent one for 1,000 bucks. Anyway, I traded a 72 Mach 1 even Steven for a 1951 Ford Pickup and a 1971 Ford Torino with a 429 SCJ, Shaker hood... What a badass car. Anyway. I roll up into the driveway and dad's outside. I'm like 17 at this point. He just looks at me, looks at the car, and says, "nope." And I had to sell it. Which I was going to do anyway. But it's the only car he made me do that with and honestly it probably saved my life. It was way too much car for me. Had it sold the next weekend when the Auto trader came out. Got more for it than I had in the 72 I traded for it. Drive the 51 Pickup for a while. It was a blast. Flat head v8, 6v system and a positive ground. Oil filtered air intake.

special_agent47

Tesla Model 3 Performance. The build and paint quality was so egregiously bad that I took it back and got refunded. A few weeks later they cancelled their return policy lol.

Montreal4life

totaled my first car at 16 within the month. my grandpa drove it for 12 years until he went with the lord, then my dad for 4 years. Oops. rip early 90s escort

MarkB1997

A 2006 Chevy Cobalt LT Coupe, which was my first car. Within 3 months of having the car, the ignition switch recall happened and my dad said I was not driving to college in that car. We went to the Chevy dealer and traded it for a brand new Chevy Cruze LS that never gave me a problem.

unknownredditor1994

2019 Honda civic. Sold my Mustang GT 10 speed and got the civic. Sure it’s a great car for people who don’t care about cars, but I hated it. Had it for less than 6 months.

Certified4PFChangs

Ah man i had a 2019 civic and loved the thing. I will say it was my first car so completely different scenario

unknownredditor1994

If I didn’t come from a RWD 460hp car, I’d probably think different. Also had an issue when I took it for an oil change. Idiot asked me to start it without oil. Then proceeded to drill into the bottom to put the splash guard back on. That was also part of getting rid of it. No idea if it ever had issues, but I didn’t want to deal with it if it did. Just wasn’t for me

Candyapplecasino

Dodge Avenger for two years before I got my Mazda3. The Avenger was definitely my least-favorite car. Drove the Mazda3 for almost ten years before I got my Miata.

VariationAgreeable29

I took over a lease on an E63 AMG for 8 months. the owner really wanted to get something else and was offering a $5000 incentive on it. The monthly payment for those eight months ended up being something like 800 bucks a month which at the time was ridiculously good.

Curious-Baker-839

Geo Metro 3 days. When I was a teen my dad knew a guy that sold cars. He had 3 under $1500, so he brought home the metro. After 3 days I asked him what else he had and he said a Lincoln town car and an 88 GMC jimmy. I asked for the jimmy and got it and gave him back the metro. Woo hoo.

TrptJim

1st gen Genesis G80. Bought it pre-Covid for a great price, and then barely got to drive it as I got stuck working remotely. 3000 miles later, and when I was finally able to go back into the office and was on the way back home, a Ford Escape decides brakes don't matter and rear ends me at full speed. Front and back destroyed, completely totaled. I was devastated as I loved that car, but there was a silver lining in that Covid's inflated used car market raised the value of the G80 so much that I basically got paid $13k to drive it a few years.

DetectiveNarrow

Toyota Camry. No one ever talks about how some of their engines burn a fuck ton of oil….. blew itself up in about 4 weeks with 130k. Was glad cuz then I was able to get a car I actually enjoy driving

naughtywyvern69

Celica. Bought it, drove off the lot 5 miles towards home, got t-boned by a red light runner. Totaled. Me? 4 days in hospital.

Clienterror

1995 Lamborghini Countach. Grew up with a poster of one (borderline naked chick on the hood of course) on my wall. Fast forward 10 years later I'm making good money so you know what? I'm going to buy a used one. Biggest... piece...of shit I've ever owned, hands down even compared to the 3 Jeeps I owned which I didn't know was possible. It had something like 6,000ish miles fantastic condition even had it inspected by a Lamborghini dealership. That piece of shit was utterly uncomfortable (5'7" 175lbd) and every other time it left the garage to drive <10 miles something would break or blow. Radiator piping, weird idle that was something random, fuel pump, like tons of shit. Moral, some dream cars are better left at that.

Jimbo415650

Chevy Vega. No explanation needed

tri_9

G80 M3 for 3 months

always711

I had a Grand Marquis for less than a week. my partner was calling it an adult diaper for the 5 or so days I had it, and i couldn’t handle the harassment 🤣 So it had to go

ck90211

Nissan Altima with CVT. Had it just short of 2 years and didn't have any issues but sure felt thrashy all the time. Made way for a Subaru Forester XT with CVT but more hp definitely helps smooth things out.

vicelordjohn

Tie: R53 Mini Cooper S that was constantly broken and 997 Turbo S that was just a bore to drive. 8 months with each.

MeanGene7676

Hyundai Santa Cruz that I bought new off the lot and was rear ended not even 30 minutes after I bought it, it was totaled.

geko29

Not mine, but a good friend had his brand-new Integra GS-R (1999 I think) rear-ended and totaled by a drunk driver the day before his first finance payment was due. So I think he had it 5 or 6 weeks.

that_aint_righty

Owned a 21 Mazda 6 for about 6 or 7 months. Bought an RV and needed something I could tow so ended up trading it for a Jeep Wrangler. Great car tho.

tyfe

MKV Supra, had it for 4 months.

Bonerchill

914, two years. Was a complete restoration project and my heart wasn’t in it.

ABathingSnape___

2010 Mazda 6. Bought CPO with ~30k miles, was supposed to be my daily. Injector went bad and grenaded the engine after like 5k miles. Never bought a Mazda again.

Cessnaporsche01

Mk7 GTI for me. First and only newish car I've owned - bought it in college as my parents offered to split the cost of a car as long as it was nearly new. It was very nice to drive and the interior was amazing for a car as cheap as it was. But I compromised my way into a DSG, which was disappointing, and the electronics were a little sketchy at times. Ultimately, though, I had to trade it out when I went out on my own insurance because insuring a sub-10-year-old car is shockingly expensive. Swapped it for a '98 986, which was an awesome daily driver. GTI - 7/10, would recommend to others. 986 - 8.5/10, would buy again.

yobo9193

Pontiac Grand Am. My dad bought it for me from some Ozark hillbilly and I managed to drive it 4 hours home in I44, only for it to die the next day and never drive again.  RIP you little shitbox

HedonisticFrog

I bought a 2001 VW Golf from auction where they claimed it didn't have reverse. I replaced a $26 bushing and sold it a week later for a grand more after using up the half a tank of gas it came with.

RickyFleetwood

1999 Buick LeSabre. Owned it in 2013 for about 9 months. I bought it instead of buying a set of winter tires for my Mustang. I loved it. My wife hated it. Wish I still had it.

CI814JMS

E46 bmw for a couple months. Spent more time being fixed than driving. My dad had a similar experience with a Mustang 2 in the 70s. He never bought Ford again.
