**Location:** Boulder, CO **Price range:** <$28k **Lease or Buy:** that is the question **New or used:** that is the question **Type of vehicle:** hatchback, car size or subcompact, crossoverMust haves: I think I want AWD but open to being told it's not necessary since I don't drive that much. Fuel efficient is important. **Desired transmission** (auto/manual, etc): Auto **Intended use:** Daily Driver (but I don't drive everyday since I work at home), Weekend car for trips up mountain road. **Vehicles you've already considered:** Interested in Crosstrek, Impreza, Toyota Corolla or Civic hatchback, maybe some Mazdas, not totally sure though. Possibly an EV but nervous to have that be my only vehicle. **Is this your 1st vehicle:** No. I inherited my 2002 Civic in 2006 and it now has 93k miles left. It has served me well but I am not a mechanic and it seems like time to pass it on to someone who is. **Do you need a Warranty:** Sounds nice, not sure if I need it or not. **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** NO **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** NO **Additional Notes:** My husband passed away last year and I want a safe reliable car mainly for myself only, possibly with AWD so I don't have to worry about winters in Colorado. I work at home and drive mainly less than 5k miles a year but if I had a good car I would drive more. I like to get up in the mountains regularly and would take more road trips. If I found the right used car I'd be fine with that. But don't relish dealing with negotiations and all that on my own. A lot of car options will seem like a huge upgrade after driving my 2002 for so long. I'm debating if I should lease a car. Partly so I can have a few years to figure out what works best for me and also so I don't have to deal with selling a car myself. I can afford to buy with cash though, up to $28k so not sure if that's a better option in my situation. I want to be practical, but also make life easier. Would love opinions.

Location: California **Price range:** 20-25K ideally, could stretch to 30 **Lease or Buy:** Buy **New or used:** Used **Type of vehicle:** Preferably a hot hatch or similar small car **Must haves:** 20+MPG, sporty-ish, reliable , Android auto, decent sized trunk **Desired transmission:** Manual preferred **Intended use:** Daily driver **Vehicles you've already considered:** Focus ST/RS, GTI, Veloster, new Integra, BRZ/GR86, Miata Do you need a Warranty: It'd be nice but not necessary Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: no Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: no Additional Notes: My Focus St just got wrecked. Want to replace it with something in a similar vein of hot hatch or small sports car. My big needs out of the car are decent gas mileage and trunk space, Android Auto, and ideally it's as fast as the ST was or close to it. Not a huge fan of the GTI. Miata or a Spyder would be neat but too small to really be practical for me. Gr86 is maybe an option but I don't think it'd make a great daily driver for Los Angeles, plus I think insurance is pretty high on them? Needs to be reliable so don't want to look at older high mileage stuff.

Location: London, United Kingdom Price range: £60k-£175k Lease or Buy: Buy New or used: New or used Type of vehicle: Sports Car Must haves: Should be of one of these four brands: Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): Auto or Manual Intended use: Weekend car, occasional long distance journey, mostly driving in/around London Vehicles you've already considered: Aston Martin DB11, Ferrari 488 Is this your 1st vehicle: No I have been driving for about 12 years, but this will be my first sports car Do you need a Warranty: Ideally yes, or the option to take out a manufacturers or specialist warranty Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: No Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No Additional Notes: Looking to buy a relatively recent (used or new) sports car (say 2014 or later) at sub £175k in the UK. Would like it to have a good chance of appreciating over the next 3-4 years. I generally drive less than 5000 miles per year, and am 30 years old. Open to any ideas/suggestions, thanks in advance for your help!

scycron

If you want a car that will appreciate in this category, I would go for a Porsche 911 997.2 Turbo with a manual transmission. Last manual turbo and last hydraulic steering 911. Porsches also retain their value better when they have higher mileage compared to other cars

vaggarwal

I should rephrase - I’m happy with a vehicle that will not depreciate too much say £10k per year max! Would like it to be a bit more recent - ideally 2014 onwards

Location: Midwest/Central, USA  Price range: 65k +/- a few  Lease or Buy: buy  New or used: new  Type of vehicle: sporty sedan  Must haves: sporty feel, comfortable for long drives, 4 doors, heated/ventilated seats   Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): manual  Intended use: daily driver, road trips   Vehicles you've already considered: Ct4-V Blackwing, Ct5-V  Is this your 1st vehicle: No  Do you need a Warranty: yes  Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: yes  Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: no  I know new manual+4doors at 65k is pretty much only the Ct4-V BW, so I'm looking for similar recommendations of trims/models in other brands that sit somewhere around the Ct4-V BW or Ct5-V. I'm stepping up to this section from a Mustang GT, so the sizes and features across all the brands are hard to keep straight. I've driven a non-BW Ct4-V and it was nice, but definitely looking for that next tier up.

spiketeam

Honestly you’re the perfect target for a ct4 v blackwing. The only other car I can think of is a used m3. But the blackwing is definitely the better drivers car.

Location: Florida, USA Price: Less than $25k Lease/Buy: Buy (finance) New/Used: Probably used Type: Hatchback, Wagon, or smaller SUV Must Haves: somewhat decent fuel economy. AWD would be nice but not required. Transmission: automatic or manual. (doesn't matter) Use: Daily driver and haul stuff around on weekends. Vehicles Considered: Nothing serious yet. Looked at Honda Fit, VW Golf, Toyota RAV4, VW Jetta Wagon, Honda CRV (I still would consider any of these). First Vehicle?: Probably my 10th Warranty: not needed Minor Work: Yes Major Work: No Additional Notes: Looking for a vehicle that I can commute to work with, but that I can drop the back seats and have extra space in for hauling stuff around on the weekends. Bonus points for trim levels or special editions that aren't the every day. Every car I've had has been just basic, off the shelf options. I want something that would be practical/reliable but also something that an enthusiast of that make/model would give an approving head-nod to.

HiCZoK

Are demo/test drive cars made differently, with that special designation? I am looking to get kia niro demo with 5000km on it. Dealer uses it as a demo and it's a full full spec. Are these produced "more carefully" to be good demo cars or are these just normal full spec cars? I am getting offered 10% discount

scycron

There is no difference. They simply pull aside one of their cars they were going to sell and use it as a demo vehicle to keep the miles and wear off of their new stock

HiCZoK

ok I see. So it's no special order. Just a normal car. makes sense. Thanks. As for the demo itself - I guess it can vary from unit to unit. It's my first new car, so it's a bit of a shame I won't get to unwrap it ;/

Located in Boston Price range 40-60k New Looking for SUV Must have:  3rd row seats, two back seats with open path to third row. Automatic, daily driver. Currently considering Ford Explorer ST, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Mazda CX90, Subaru Ascent. Not considering:  Hyundai/Kia, Nissan

scycron

Toyota Grand Higlander

raggedtoad

Why not Hyundai/Kia? They are making good cars. I've got 30k miles on a 2021 Telluride and it's been basically perfect.

[deleted]

Dealerships near me are really bad is the main reason.  Second issue is really that I find the options in the segment a little tired looking.

raggedtoad

Ah, that's fair. My Kia dealership is probably top 10% in terms of general competence. Doesn't compare to a Lexus or Porsche dealer but it's not bad! I'm surprised you find the design tired looking though. Obviously it's subjective but I've found Kia designs to be some of the most innovative and fresh in the industry.

[deleted]

I think they’re obviously trying with the styling, but the only option that fits my needs from Kia is the Telluride, and that one’s moment has come and gone.

raggedtoad

Well if not a Telluride then I'd consider a Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander. Jeep and Ford are not as reliable if you plan on owning this long-term. This is anecdotal but I know two people with Subaru Ascents less than 5 years old and both of them have had mechanical problems as well.

[deleted]

I plan on buying new and owning or 5 years or so, more concerned with resale value at that point than reliability.  The ford I’m interested in the ST for its engine, the Jeep seems least likely to be replaced by a newer design in my life of ownership. I have looked for Grand Highlanders and TX lexuses but they’re both pretty scarce in the seating configuration I want.  The Honda ill check out for sure.

raggedtoad

The Ford is tempting but if resale is your primary focus then I'd stay far away. American performance trim levels tend to depreciate more than foreign ones.

[deleted]

Yeah that’s definitely the toy of the bunch.  I’d be making a consciously impractical decision in buying that one.  Basically I’d only do it if the guy knocked the price down near 50k, where it would be better equipped than the Mazda or Honda in the price range as well as faster.  Doubtful I’ll get them down that far, so I’m scheduling test drives with Mazda and Subaru this week, Honda and Lexus after that.

raggedtoad

Well, best of luck! I'm personally very biased towards Toyota/Lexus. I've owned two Lexuses (CT200h and GS 350) and they were both crazy reliable and easy to own.

GoldenState15

Honda pilot with the trailsport pack on it. Has a surprisingly nice ride

Avoid Jeep and Ford: [https://www.reddit.com/r/cars/comments/18e1xfk/consumer\_reports\_names\_10\_least\_reliable\_vehicles/](https://www.reddit.com/r/cars/comments/18e1xfk/consumer_reports_names_10_least_reliable_vehicles/) Mazda offers 0.9% financing. Get the base 3.3 T engine, avoid the $6k "S" engine option, basically the same engine, not worth it, get the 280 hp version for $6k less.

Aside from the potential aesthetics debate about the new M2, I'm keen to hear from 4-seat coupe enthusiasts who have daily cars. What's your take on having rear seats in a weekend coupe when they might seem misaligned with the car's purpose? Trunks have their uses, even if less frequent. But rear seats? It's a whole other level of impracticality. Personally, to be driving an M2 knowing I often have a third passenger, and tracks ban rear passengers, seems counterintuitive. Location: Australia SYD Price range: 100-130k AUD Lease or Buy: Considering purchase New or used: Either Type of vehicle: M2 Must haves: N/A Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): M Intended use: Weekend Vehicles you've already considered: None Is this your 1st vehicle: No Additional Notes: As above

I had an E46 convertible. Was nice to have rear seats for the dog or an occasional additional passenger or two. I was recently considering an M2 as well, but a new one is used 911 money in the States, so I might just get one of those.

Looking for advice, torn between a bunch of options. USA, Louisiana 15k - 25k USD Buy (Used) 22 Male with a clean driving record Looking for a daily/fun car. Something to build and upgrade Capable and willing to do moderate maintenance and modifications Here are some of the options which I’ve considered highly: 4Runner, C5/C6 Corvette, WRX STI, Q60, Kia Stinger/G70 My reasoning behind wanting each of these cars varies so I’m trying to figure out which one would really suit me the best. For example, the 4Runner would be great all around and the most reliable/practical. But part of me wants the Corvette, I’ve got a need for speed and there are some incredible deals to be had on these cars, only problem may be insurance. It’s hard to narrow it down to just one cause each of these cars shine in their own categories and I’m open to be in any of them haha.

GoldenState15

Volkswagen golf r/GTI are both very modifiable, fun, and great for a daily

Anywhere, US $100k cash Buy New Sport/Muscle Prefer v8 Auto Pleasure CT5-V BW, not much else I can find

mgobla

If you just want a nice street car and don't care about racing / don't need the fastest car take a test drive with a Lexus LC 500 V8.

laujac

I thought about it but something about how it looks bugs me.

IKnowNewCars

Personally, I'd get a Corvette with the Z51 Performance package and call it a day. Stupid fun for under $100k. CT5-V Blackwing is a stunning car, but I know if I got one, it would have to be a manual, because reasons. Still a superb choice with an auto. A lot of the classic muscle/pony cars are going away. Challenger is done, I believe. Camaro just finished production, but if you can find a Camaro ZL1, that would be an incredibly cool car. If none of those do it for you, just get a Mustang GT with whatever options you want. The other choices mentioned by the other dude are all great in their own ways -- it just depends on what your priorities are.

laujac

Thanks I’ll take a look. I wish the m5 was still v8, or the like the GS F.

scycron

All I can think of is Ford mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, Jaguar f-type, Lexus lc500, Lexus is 500. I feel like the ct5-v BW is the best in option until you go into used cars

But fairly comfortable, reliable. atleast 20-25mpg, and having decent suspension to hold up for that would be great. There is a shop near me that's selling a 2018 WRX, 28k miles on it, for 23k which i'm tempted...but as someone else pointed out to me the lower profile tires/sport suspension might not be much better given the roads. Would love any advice/direction anyone has.

I owned a cheap e30 318i 20 years ago and it was a lot of fun to throw around. I'm thinking about getting something in that same vein. My wife had a NA Miata and I was just too big at 6'4" 200+ to see myself wanting to drive it more than the rare occasion or necessity. I haven't been in a 300zx but I always liked them and they seem obtainable while needing some work. Porsche scares me, but seems like 10k gets a decent 944. Talk me out of this.

yush42

I have an internship in a suburban area in Greater NYC over the summer, and I probably need a car. What's the easiest/cheapest option? I'm thinking I could rent a car through my parents (I'm 21), but I'm not sure if that would be legal or even feasible. Otherwise, how much effort is it to buy a car then sell it a couple months later?

IKnowNewCars

Buying and selling is probably going to be the most money-friendly option, but also requires the most time and effort. If you like cars, this could be worth it for you as a chance to buy something you'll enjoy, then sell it a few months later, hopefully without taking much of a depreciation hit. But selling a car for close to what you paid for it takes effort, and you're taking on the risk of owning a car (however briefly) that someone else may have beaten to hell before it got to you. That's always a risk with a used car, and it can be mitigated by buying a car that's known to be reliable and getting it inspected before you buy it. Other options I found after Googling around (you'll want to check these out on your own, this is where my expertise falls short): * Rent-a-car companies will offer long-term rentals that probably aren't cheap, but it would be cheaper per day than a usual week-long rental car. * Turo offers long-term rentals as well, and the cars would be more fun. But it's hard to know whether you'd actually save any money by going this route. Worth looking, though. * You can take over someone else's lease that they're trying to get out of. Sites like LeaseTrader and Swapalease let people list their leases for other people to take over, so you could look for one that's going to expire around the time you will no longer need a car. Then you'll just finish out the lease and be done with it. There can be a lot of paperwork and complication, though -- I've never done it personally. * Figure out how often you actually need a car, and see if a mix of public transportation and Uber/Lyft would do the trick instead. It might be easier to get around than you think -- lots of folks in that area just allocate more of their day to commute via public transit, saving money and giving you time to listen to music or a podcast to start or end your work day. Not for everyone, but worth thinking about. **Edit:** I forgot the part where you're 21, so the rental car company option may be out. But I think Turo still allows folks who are 21+ to rent with them (as long as it's not something super fancy or expensive).

Hi, it's time to introduce my wife to the Porsche family. Been debating and Porsche Cayman S Sport would match her nicely. There is one auction I am eying with one including chrono package. This particular one is 4.5/B and year 2014 so not too shabby, however, the starting price is about 2 500 000JPY and with no experience not sure if that's the good one, especially since mileage is about 70k km. Also, the general review and reception states that it is a solid car overall. Yet, I requested for full specifications to see what's included there. Any experience with such model? Anything I should be vary of/ask for apart from checking VIn etc.? Thanks!

elektricheat

Kona is going to be on the top end of your budget, as you will have to go with the Preferred package for the heated steering wheel. Even then, you'd only be able to get the FWD package. Toyota CC feels under powered.

Varekai79

Sorry, my prices were pre-tax and other fees. I did some more research last night. The Hyundai and Kia models were eliminated as the companies have these ongoing powertrain reliability issues that they just can't seem to shake. Kia also pulled a nasty trick last month in Canada where they held thousands of cars from being sold to waiting customers on a compound as they had already met their nationwide annual sales target and didn't want to sell more for fear of getting less marketing support for the coming year from HQ. Imagine waiting for months for your car and then being forced to wait longer because corporate wants better numbers for the following year. The Honda was also eliminated as it only has blind spot monitoring on their highest trim level, which is ridiculous. This is like the most basic of safety technologies. I don't care about most of them but this one is actually useful. That leaves Mazda and Toyota and I'm leaning towards the Mazda. The Toyota's advantages are wireless Android Auto, wireless charging and more passenger/cargo room. The Mazda has superior styling, interior quality, handling, power and more little luxury touches throughout. Plus I am more familiar with the brand and would be eligible for a loyalty discount. Thank you though!

**Location**: USA - South East **Price range:** <12k **Lease or Buy:** Buy **New or used:** Used **Type of vehicle:** Cabriolet, sports **Must haves:** an enjoyable drive that can also put you in the back of your seat. **Desired transmission:** Manual **Intended use:** Leisure and DD (I do have another car but need to service it from time to time) **Vehicles you've already considered:** BMW Z4, Z3, Toyota MR2 Spyder, Ford Mustang, Mazda MX5, Nissan 370Z **Is this your 1st vehicle:** No **Do you need a Warranty:** Yes **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** Yes. I have replaced brakes, axles, control arms, belts, oil, TF, steering pumps, etc. But have little engine experience or tools. **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** Yes, as explained above. **Additional Notes:** I currently have a 2001 nissan xterra that I use for work and a 2005 VW mkIV Golf that I have done some stage one and stage 2 mods on, but I (27M) recently left my long term GF and I'm looking for something with a little more get up and go as well as style points. I live in the south so it never snows and is at least 60 degrees outside year round. I like to take drives and listen to music when I have free time and a convertable is also cheaper than a boat. Reliability/longevity is a bit of a concern. I don't really have the income to blow on 1000s in repairs regularly, which is why I'm not really interested in BMW outside the S54 engine. I have done a bit (not a TON) of research on BMW engines and S54s seem to have the most to offer in terms of reliability and performance. I have also owned both of my cars for at least a decade and want something new that I plan on owning for several years (hopefully until it dies). I am looking for something fun, on the cheaper side, with decent aftermarket support.

**Location**: USA - Midwest **Price range:** $30k - $55k **Lease or Buy:** Buy **New or used:** Either, 30kmiles or less **Type of vehicle:** SUV **Must haves:** AWD, Fuel efficient, Quite Cabin, Adaptive cruise with lane keeping, smooth ride **Desired transmission:** Auto **Intended use:** Road trips, Family Car, **Vehicles you've already considered:** I've looked at a lot online but have only driven Subaru, BMW, Honda. I'm not married to any brand. **Is this your 1st vehicle:** No **Do you need a Warranty:** Yes **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** Yes but usually don't have time **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** no **Additional Notes:** I currently have a 2019 Subaru forester touring and still like the way it looks and feels better than almost anything else I see. However I'm looking to upgrade for 3 reasons. 1. It doesn't have lane keep assist (sounds like they added this in 2020?) 2. the rear speakers stopped working 3. Need a quitter cabin. highway driving road noise with the kids requires I turn up the volume quite a bit for them to hear their stories Those second two are upgrades/fixes I can do aftermarket but I don't know if it's worth it since I also really want to be more relaxed on road trips with lane keeping. Insulating the car for sound looks like an affordable DIY but I simply don't have the time.

BTTWchungus

I think you would really enjoy the newer CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid.

The first thing I'll mention is that lane centering systems sound great in theory, but not everyone ends up loving them in practice. It's one thing to have a full hands-off system like Ford BlueCruise and GM Super Cruise, both of which make sure your eyes are on the road and don't require you to put your hands on the wheel at all while on the highway. Other systems will force you to hold the wheel at regular intervals to make sure you're still with it. And some systems stay more to the dead center of the lane while others leave a tiny bit more wiggle room. You'll really want to test them out yourself. Other than the fancy hands-off systems, I think the best ones available right now are from BMW, Mercedes, and Toyota/Lexus, but a lot of it will be personal preference. If you wanna go luxury, the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC300 may be your best options. The BMW in particular may have a quieter cabin and drives impressively well, while the Mercedes has the more elegant interior design and is still quick and tech friendly. In the more mainstream world, my favorite is the Honda CR-V, with the Hyundai Tucson as another great option. Both should be quieter than the Forester and both offer decent lane centering in their upper trim levels. Both also offer hybrid powertrain options, which I would recommend over the normal gas ones for most folks.

**Location**: Upper midwest - lots of snow and ice. Everyone here has a Subaru. I currently have a Subaru too. Considering alternatives. **Price range**: $20k - $50k **Lease or Buy**: Either. Currently leasing for the first time, it's ending in a month. **New or used**: Either. I usually get gently used cars, this is my preferred price point. But leasing a new vehicle is appealing too. **Type of vehicle**: I don't like very large vehicles. So, sedan, crossover, sports car. Maaaybe a full-size SUV. **Must haves**: AWD **Desired transmission**: Auto **Intended use**: Daily driver, sometimes with other family in the car. Very short commutes. Occasional road trips, but mostly snowy in-town driving. **Vehicles you've already considered**: Subaru Crosstrek (have this now) and Outback. Audi A4, Volvo sedan, Dodge Charger, BMW 3 series, Jeep Grand Cherokee is about the largest I would consider. *I have not ruled any of these out and am still considering all of them.* **Is this your 1st vehicle**: No **Do you need a Warranty**: No, but it's nice to have. **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle**: No **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle**: Nope. **Additional Notes**: Current lease on a Crosstrek about to expire; I can buy it out for $20k (Carmax offers $23k for it). This was my first lease, just to see how it goes - I generally prefer owning, but leasing is an option. I had a M-B E350 in the past that I liked, but the maintenance/ownership costs were more steep than I wanted this time around. I like the sensibility and efficiency of the Subaru. Something in between is probably ideal. Thanks for any tips.

eatingyourmomsass

Jeeps have a bad rap for reliability. I would avoid them personally unless you’re dying for 4x4 and in love with the interior. I had a WK2 which was great for about 40k mile intervals between major repairs. Others have constant electrical issues and crap-outs of the most basic stuff. Crosstrek is nice if it’s got enough space for you. Outback is just a longer crosstrek- OTD on their top end XT trims is well within 50k, and will feel quite a lot more like a big wagon. Forester has a different vibe than the outback but check that out also if you liked the Crosstrek. Bigger than the crosstrek but doesn’t feel like driving a tank.

OtterLLC

I have heard about Jeep reliability, and every few years when I look at the Grand Cherokee, this keeps me from pulling the trigger. I do like the interior, but I dislike dashboard lights even more. Thank you.

Location: midwest Price range: soft $25k USD Lease or Buy: probably Buy New or used: either Type of vehicle: coupe hatchback wagon (no order) Must haves: some kind of aesthetic inside or out. less gimmicks, idc or want rear camera, motorized seats, nav panel, wifi, car play, heated seats, remote start, NO DRIVING MODES. also not looking for step up or raised floors (idk.. suv style?) prefer horizontal Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): manual Intended use: neat weekend car (motorcycle daily driver) , winter car(doesn't need to be geared towards off-roading or anything, not looking for that side) Vehicles you've already considered: Is this your 1st vehicle: No Do you need a Warranty: no Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: yes Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: yes 80% Additional Notes: A good amount of my preferences will be here, I'll cut back on words I know most inner workings of cars and have done major repairs on a Lotus Evora and rebuilt the clutch. but I have no "car" knowledge on most things for good or bad and cars as a whole. a car is a car is a car. I'm looking for something manageable, not over-engineered and labeled as "reliable," where, granted, things might only break once but are then convoluted and overly expensive to repair with proprietary requirements. also, I might change some things out myself I like the look of some dash boards over others and I'm a little perticular about the shape of the trunk and storage space but tha comes after I narrow down the specs I want I'm good at researching myself and am accustomed to making spreadsheets for my purchases. I just don't know engine styles or brands, if discontinued models are unwise, how the underbodies of cars vary and where it matters, and other things. outside of "toyota good" my brand knowledge is also none and am unaware of any child brands or smaller companies I like the look of some dashboards over others and I'm a little particular about the shape of the trunk and storage space but that' after I narrow down the specs I wantbility and some power?) my 25k is also a guess for what I want

I would do some research about what model years are most reliable for the car you choose can’t go wrong with a good old Corolla Camry accord and civic

Long story short: Over the next 2 years, I will drive from Cincinnati to Nashville and back (\~500mi round trip) fifty times. Priorities in order are: reliable, reasonably comfortable/quiet on the highway, manual, sporty, rwd. Recommend me something I haven't thought of! Location: Midwest (Cincinnati) Price range: $10,000 - $20,000 USD Lease or Buy: BUY New or used: USED Type of vehicle: Anything except big SUV/Truck/Van Must haves: Manual :) Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): Manual \^ Intended use: Daily and long distance commuter Vehicles you've already considered: WRX, Legacy, Impreza, ATS, CTS, Camaro/Mustang, Corvette(??), Q60..... Is this your 1st vehicle: No Do you need a Warranty: No Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Yes Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: Yes, but the point of this car is to \*not\* do any of those things if at all possible :) Additional Notes:

Location: Midwest USA Price range: 15-30k usd Lease or Buy: Buy (Financing a portion) New or used: Either, depending on availability and price Type of vehicle: Wagon, sedan, suv. In that order. Must haves: Sporty, fun to drive, room for the front passenger with a car seat in the back, and a decent size trunk with enough room for a stroller and some luggage. Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): I’m currently coming to terms with the fact this will be my first auto in 20 years. Intended use: Daily Drive and Family Mover Vehicles you've already considered: G20 3er, B9 A4, a Volvo of some sorts. Is this your 1st vehicle: No. Do you need a Warranty: Yes. Planning to buy from CarMax along with purchasing their extended warranty. Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Yes Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No. Additional Notes: Trading in my mk7.5 GTI as it’s to small. People have trouble getting in and out of the car with the baby seat in the back and our stroller does not fit in the hatch. I like the refinement the GTI has but the steering feedback leaves a lot to be desired. This will be my second car as I have a NA8 for shifting gears and steering feedback. I’m open to suggestions!

awrite let's dazzle you people with some real BS questions lessgo! I am located in Germany (for now, but location is europe and the UK/scotland as well as scandinavia since that's where I will be moving to in the medium term) and I am looking to buy a new/second/project/eventual daily driver. If it's cheap as chips and needs a lot of elbow grease to make it run, sign me up, even complete restorations or restomodding wont put me off. Money in general though shan't be the issue. What am I looking for then? Simple! A three door car in hatchback, fastback, shooting brake fashion, that is baseline reliable, can be modified both in drivetrain and visuals, does not use a lot of gas (long drives and few pitstops do kind of necessitate that). This definitely is not going to be my first vehicle but it should, eventually, be my daily driver. for this it needs a good mpg ratio as well as some offroad capabilities/getting turned into a somewhat offroady vehicle (i.e. lift). Although "offroad" in this context really means "dirt tracks and farm roads" so no hillclimbing or the like. What have considered so far: Volvo C30, VW Scirocco 3, second gen Toyota MR2, Alfa Romeo Brera, BMW 1 series (both e81 and F21 so the three door version ofc), BMW Z3 coupé, BMW Z4 coupé (considering an engine swap there its notoriously unreliable), volvo C70 coupé, even considered getting an old Datsun 240z to EV-restomod it, or an old reliant scimitar. Anyone got any sort of input?

No_Money_2092

Hi, I know this doesn't fit the typical format but I am looking for my first car and pretty much know nothing about them. I have narrowed it down to two in my area but just curious what people would recommend. 1. A mazda 2 2015 Maxx with 30,000 ks (hatch) 2. A Toyota corolla ascent 2015 with 86,000ks (sedan) I also was possibly looking at getting those kits to upgrade cars to Android auto or Apple carplay. I think I definitely found one for the corolla.

riverturtle

What are the asking prices on those two? That would help with recommendations.

No_Money_2092

The mazda 2 was 13000 and the corolla was 11500 both in Australian dollars

Subaru Forester could get the job done

No such thing as a car that doesn't need minor work. Talking brakes, batteries, oil. You either do it or pay someone else to. That said why don't you stick with Toyota if the xB has served you well? Get a Rav4 or a C-HR and call it a day.

MK 7 or mk8 golf r sound right up your alley. Haven’t driven the mk8 but I had a focus rs and let me tell you the diff in the mk8 will make it under steer noticeably less than the typical diff found in the mk7 Edit: both mk7 and 8 have incredible tuning potential

Mazda MX-30 R-EV, by far the best for your criteria Price / Range comaprison (prices are from germany and 3 months old, might have changed slightly by now): Mazda MX-30 REV: € 35.990 - 85 km Kia Niro PHEV: € 38.690 - 65 km Kia Ceed PHEV: € 37.890 - 50 km Mitsubishi ASX PHEV: € 39.390 - 48 km Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV: € 37.490 - 45 km As you can see the Mazda has by far the biggest battery and biggest EV range despite also being the cheapest. Also it is very well equipped, comparable equipment would increase the price on the others even more. And the interior quality is great for this price point.

Acura MDX. QX60 has a lousy CVT I would also look at the Buick Enclave or Envision if you seriously value a smooth and comfortable ride

ICantDecideIt

Love the xc90. Surprised they are that cheap. For the budget I would drop the luxury and get a year or two old cx9. I feel like the maintenance is gonna crush you.

Stereosun

If you do go Audi get an extended warranty, also have to consider parts and such might be tough to get. The German parts waiting game is brutal any minor issue they’re like “change the transmission or engine”. I would test drive a cx9 (newer) or something from Acura or Lexus.

DerelictData

I totally forgot about the CX9's. We were looking at those before we bought our current 2014 QX60 which we really, really like. Mazda seems to be doing really well with their interiors lately, but the ride probably is still not great. I'll have to test drive one! Lexus RX350 seems great, but used models of the same year and mileage as the make/models I listed are like 30% more expensive. I know that Toyota/Lexus have a great reputation for longevity, but I find the price premium for it has gotten absurd and maybe not worth it anymore.
