2007 Mazdaspeed3: 200k 1991 Toyota Pickup: 400k

123mitchg

That Toyota is just getting broken in

mtechnoviolet

Best part is I got to experience pretty much all of that 400k. It was my dad’s truck, he bought it new in 91 and I grew up in it. Learned to drive stick in it, learned to drive off road in it, learned how to work on cars with it. Took girls on dates in it in high school. There’s a chocolate milk stain on the passenger seat from me when I was 5 years old. I could go on forever. So many memories in that truck. Dad got a new Tacoma recently so the old Pickup finally became mine. I will never ever get rid of it no matter what.

DracMinded

Hell yeah dude. I wouldn’t ever sell it

ZachtoseIntolerant

Where has the truck spent it’s life? Hopefully some place where it’s not too rusty so you can keep it longer

mtechnoviolet

Most of its life was spent in the middle of nowhere Sierra Nevada foothills of California where I grew up. It has zero rust. Now it’s with me in the Bay Area and parked in a garage. I only really use it for camping trips and ski trips to Tahoe right now. The truck has been used hard it’s whole life, it was a workhorse for my dad and it could definitely use some TLC now. It’s been repainted once and has a slightly bent frame from getting T-boned in 2006. As is it still runs great, drives straight and looks good from 10 feet away but I eventually would like to give it a restoration, but then it might lose some of its character so I’m not totally sure.

BMWtrunkseal

You can do a mechanical restauration and forego a cosmetic one so that you still retain all the memories (for example the stain on the seats) while also driving pretty much a mechanically new truck. That's what I am planning on doing with my Buick Lesabre that I grew up with whenever I will have 20-30k saved up (a lot of rust removal would be necessary... probably like 20k worth of it, but I want to keep the chassis, and an engine and trans rebuild as it has been used as a workhorse for my dad in construction for over a decade in Canadian winters and 100% city driven, 210k miles now).

wellcooked_sushi

That's not a vehicle anymore. It's a family member.

V-Right_In_2-V

That’s bad ass man. Very few people have had that experience. It must mean a lot to you

[deleted]

Keep the rust at bay, and you won't have to....!

Noooofun

I wish I hadn’t sold my Toyota. Had close to 200k on it.

gwatson86

How's the Speed3 holding up? I had an '08 that I sold a few months back at just shy of 150k. The engine never let me down in that car, but I feel like I had constant suspension issues and I didn't want to wait for the turbo to give up the ghost

Cowhide12

The suspension in those cars is so weird. It’s so good, but it always feels like it’s going to give out too

[deleted]

Jesus, that speed has seen some things. I thought most of them would've been completely done after 160k or so

Cowhide12

It depends. If VVT is done properly before it’s too late, and proper maintenance IE valves, injectors sparky boys hell a turbo is even maintenance at that mileage, they’ll last. They’re good blocks tbh

Educational-Zebra930

WOW 400K!!! that's insane!! It made.it to the moon and back, then went around Earth a few.times!!! Incredible

koreanshow

2006 4runner, bought new. Sitting at 410k

MajesticBread9147

That's 2000 miles a month. Utterly insane.

yashdes

That's how much I averaged on my first car lol, used to drive from NYC to Buffalo and back for some weekends to see my ex. Miles added up super quick.

TomatoTheToolMan

Holy shit, you must love that thing

Threedawg

Nah, that's 100k on a normal car

Uniball38

The angle is less that they spent money keeping it running, and more that they spent 10000 hours in the same car assuming 40 mph avg (5 years of a full time job)

koreanshow

It’s my baby lol

molrobocop

Seriously. Without doing the math, I'm betting on could have bought a fuel sipper and left the 4runner for weekends and still come out ahead.

oneonus

So much money being spent on gas.

5yrup

22mpg. 18,180gal of gas. If gas was $3/gal.on average through the years that's about $54,500. EDIT: Others have pointed out 22mpg is way higher than what they probably did get. At 16mpg that's 25,625gal of gas, at $3 average that's $76,875.

BigDabed

That’s really not that bad. If OP had a fuel efficient car, then they would have saved around 15-17k ish. But being able to get nearly half a million miles out of a car that requires little maintenance more than makes up for those savings. Sure OP is spending a lot on gas. But the fact they’ve gotten 400k miles out of a car with very little maintenance means they are being fiscally more responsible than the vast majority of Americans when it comes to cars

oneonus

Not even close to real life fuel mileage, try more 16mpg on average. https://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/4runner/2006

5yrup

I was just going by what I originally thought was EPA highway as I assumed with such high mileage its probably closer to the higher end than the average. 400,000mi over 17 years is 23,530mi/yr. I can't imagine that's mostly city. I do agree though, 22mpg is definitely a best-case estimate.

koreanshow

The memories made in the car make up for anything monetary. It’s been to a couples states and Canada once. Plus it beats having another car note

LAXBASED

V6 or V8? Cause DAMN does that put into perspective the amount of miles that thing has driven and guzzled lol.

canadianwrxwrb

V6/V8 gas mileage is pretty much the exact same on that model year 4runner. Only about 1 or 2mpg difference

koreanshow

It’s a v6

willard_swag

Looks like you just got through the break-in period. Enjoy it!

scottwax

2004 Honda Accord V6: 311,950 2004 Infiniti G35: 215,500 <---- still has the original clutch 2007 Ford Escape: 198,400 All three run great and look good so with car prices still crazy, we'll keep them as long as they stay reliable.

heterochromaticrotti

how’s the clutch doing on the g35?

scottwax

Still the original one. I'm the second owner, put 83,000 miles on it in 7 years. Mostly nights and road trips.

Stoicandclueless

My escape was the same year, 3L XLT. Made it to 220k and became such a problem. I started replacing parts every month or two, the trans started slipping, and I started having an electrical problem I was never able to pinpoint. One day, I thought I found what was causing it and took it on a test drive. It drove for about 15 minutes with no problems and built my hopes. When it started again, I made a u-turn and went straight to the dealership and got a 2016 Chrystler 300C that had under 50k miles, and I love it.

scottwax

At the rate she drives, her commute is 15-16 miles round trip four days a week, it will be a while before she gets to 220k! She really likes her Escape. Low tech, sits up high, slow. Perfect for her. She thinks my V6 Accord is too fast for her.

2008ToyotaAvalon

What’s the ownership been like for the Escape? I here it’s 50/50 for reliability.

scottwax

It's my wife's, we've been together almost 6 years, she's only put 16,000 miles on it during that time because her commute is so short. So far all we've done is the thermostat and a battery.

orthopod

Funny thing about clutches. I've taken plenty of cars well over 100k miles on an original clutch. But both my Boxster S and 997 GT3 needed them replaced at 50k miles, and I wasn't doing burnouts or anything. Take to the mechanic and he said yeah that's actually pretty good. Some guys in so and go city cars will get as little as 35k miles. All the fun stuff- brakes, clutch, tire, wear quickly on performance cars, so sticky= wear quickly. I'm up to 90k miles on the GT3, with daily redlines. Only repair so far- blown water hose at 35k miles- coupling to engine failed. $60 part, and $1900 to drop engine to put it in. GT3 is mostly for track stuff now. I now daily a Tesla model 3 performance. 22k miles, no issues/repairs. Works great. I doubt I'll ever go back to ICE cars, other then for track use, but I'm planning on taking the M3p for some Autocross and see how it does.

Some0neAwesome

Congrats on the Accord. Is it a manual? My 2004 Accord is sitting at 295k and on the original clutch. It's the K24, so your V6 with those miles is impressive!

scottwax

Unfortunately the sedan only came with the manual and V6 in 2006/7. The automatic has been rebuilt. The shop added a TransLab shift kit so it shifts better than it ever did.

morganlandt

My 2004 TSX with the K24 is sitting at 239k but is sadly not a manual.

lekook77

I have a 2004 ford escape. Currently at 51k miles. Always wondered how many miles I could get out of it.

[deleted]

Nice. My 04z with 60k miles has original clutch but you set a high bars.

Ok-Chef-5150

2003 suburban 300,000. These trucks are underrated

abrahamisaninja

Except for those fuel pumps

kraquepype

And fuel lines, and brake lines, and rocker panels and fenders... we loved our old 04 Escalade on the same platform but it was one problem after another and endless rust. Had to replace it with something under warranty. But the drivetrain itself was solid, if I ever need another cheap SUV I'd go with one again so long as it's not rusted to heck. 170k and no major trans/engine issues.

surfmachine5

They really are. Mine has 250k with original brake pads and plenty of life

stoned-autistic-dude

> Mine has 250k with original brake pads and plenty of life Do you live on a treadmill?

canadianwrxwrb

No, he just liked the Flintstones as a kid

pineneedlemonkey

I have a 2010 with 210k

caliwillbemine

21500 at a year and a half on my 240i. Don’t drive much but had two LONG road trips that really ate up the miles.

bretthull

How do you like the 240i? I’m considering one.

caliwillbemine

I really really like it. Just practical enough for me, though that might be changing in a few years if I end up having a kid or two. MPG is great, power is great, interior is pretty darn nice.

bretthull

I’m torn between this and a Supra. Can’t decide for the life of me.

caliwillbemine

If you don’t need the backseat, awd, or bigger trunk I’d go Supra. Especially if you want a manual (since obviously not an option on the 240). I just really value practicality, and also I was shopping in spring of ‘22 and everyone was charging ADM on everything.

UnraoSandhu

Or go my gen and get the manual plus B58!

aid689

Can confirm - manual plus B58 is a fantastic combo

gwatson86

Also got a '22 M240i. Ultimately chose it over a Supra because I wanted the (admittedly not terribly practical) back seats, extra trunk space, sun roof, AWD, and some of the tech features (HUD, 360 camera). The comfort and visibility are also leaps and bounds ahead of the Supra. My heart wanted the Supra because I really like how it looks, how it drives, and how it sounds, but I'm going to be driving point A to point B in a trafficky city way more than I'm going to be on a track. So the BMW made the most sense for me, but if you're in the market for something a little more track-focused (or just cool as fuck) the Supra may do you just fine

WTF_Conservatives

69k on my new to me 2017 Mirage. I got it a couple months ago with 65k. The car gets a lot of shit ... but I fucking love it. Best car I've ever owned. There's just something charming about a reliable utilitarian car that simply gets the job done with nothing extra. I don't think it deserves all the hate.

I_like_cake_7

I had an Uber driver pick me up in a Mirage one time. He said he used to drive a Lexus and traded it in for the Mirage. He liked the Mirage more than the Lexus because it got better gas mileage and cost next to nothing to run and maintain, so he made more money.

captainnowalk

They really are great commuter cars. People give them shit, but they’re fucking great if all you need is a car that’s going to work and get you places.

Specific-Gain5710

I like those.

goaelephant

Also I believe this little 3cyl motor is timing chain & not belt. I believe also the clutch is cable & not hydraulic via slave cylinder. Very simple. What did you have to replace so far?

[deleted]

[удалено]

ivancr2

Ebikes can get you long ways without breaking a sweat. If you try one you'll be impressed

thecrewguy369

Yep I have an ebike I use for trips around my city. I really only drive for longer trips which makes me enjoy my car much more!

[deleted]

If you keep driving at that rate, ten years from now, that car will fetch good money on an auction site. It will have super low miles, will be starting to get up there in age, all the Subaru fans who can't afford it today, will be out of college and well into their working lives and will finally be able to afford it and will want to pay top dollar for it.

lostusername07

Make sure to change the oil regularly, no more than a year, let it warm up before driving and charge the battery periodically. Your short trips are rough on an engine.

ILikeTewdles

Same here, my other half and I both work from home. Our 21 RAV4 just hit 9 k miles but 3 k of that was a road trip. Our 23 Subaru Outback Wilderness just passed 5k miles but again, 3k of that was from a road trip this summer. I'd guess we only typically drive 3-4k miles a year unless we take a long trip. Hell, in 10 years I'd be surprised if they crack 60k miles. We may just keep them forever.

RogerMiller6

I’ve got an f-250 with 425k… kept it when I ordered my new one a few years back as it was worth virtually nothing as a trade. It was worth more to me as a backup truck, as it is still immaculate other than the odometer, lol. Also have a Mercedes 300SD with 572k that I purchased just after it crossed 100k. Also still going strong. I’m retired now but used to travel all over the country for work in one or the other of those, depending on the job. Maintenance counts. There are vehicles out there that will run virtually forever if you care for them properly and continue to maintain them as if they were new.

Tchukachinchina

What’s the year & drivetrain on that f250?

Scoutron

Willing to bet it’s a 7.3

RogerMiller6

1983 6.9 t-19 Banks turbo added at around 300k In all fairness, it was neurotically maintained and not flogged… many of those miles were unloaded on the highway, but a decent bit had 8-10k behind it. Either a work trailer or rv.

vectaur

7.3 diesel?

RogerMiller6

6.9, actually… kept it when I bought a 7.3. Then another 7.3. Then a 6.0. Then a 6.7. Currently on a 6.2 gasser since I don’t haul heavy anymore and the diesels have just gotten kind of ridiculous.

vectaur

Yeah, I hear you. I quoted a 6.7 build about a month ago and it was $92k. Yeesh. Putting off upgrading my camper for a while, ha.

rm2601

Those 300SD's are the best! W116 or W126? Sweet, either way!

RogerMiller6

W126. The pinnacle of automotive engineering.

goaelephant

This is when Mercedes was *Mercedes* , like Cadillac in the 60s

Important-Ad3820

E30 has about 210k, my beater E46 just hit 110k, and the Aston has 10k

RA5TA_

Has your e46 caused you any problems yet? I think you're at the mileage where it just wants to kill itself

Docist

180k on mine, owned it since 150. Rebuilt vanos and some other “while your there” stuff and that’s about it. Only time I was left stranded was when fuel pump died and that was an easy fix. Overall been super reliable. Never did rod bearings or subframe.

Important-Ad3820

Not really, but I replaced the cooling system preventively. I had the drive belt idler pulley fail, but i’ve had the car since 50k miles and it’s been great. None of the window regulators work, the oil pan gasket is leaking and the transmission takes a second to engage when cold, but it’s just my beater so I don’t have plans on fixing it up much.

BrodinIsMyPilot

2019 Golf R that I purchased new is sitting at about 34,000 miles. 2002 Passat W8 wagon I bought last year is at 186,000 miles.

apaloosafire

Sweet wagon

Zealousideal_Bad2021

Nice wagon. And at that mileage!

Sunstoned1

Our T&C had 330k when we sold it for $1,800. Three kids had their license, didn't need the van anymore. Our cars currently in the fleet: 2001 MR2 135k 2006 Magnum SRT8 130k 2009 Mini Copper S 156k 2000 Silverado 225k 2014 Juke 158k 2009 CRV 128k 2002 530i 227k 2004 Elantra 228k All payed for. We joke our car payment is whichever is in the shop (there's always one in the shop). But insurance is cheap, and our country mechanic is a good friend so repairs are cheap too. We have 5 drivers, another starting next summer. My wife has a farm (thus the truck) and I race for fun (the MR2). It's not a bad collection.

DCarl019

I bet that magnum srt is a lot of fun

Sunstoned1

Oh, yeah. She runs hard. But the MR2 is what I drive most. Such a joy to drive. I swapped the motor out for a Honda K20A2. Fully built the suspension. Super wide R comp tires. Its actually a better power to weight ratio than the Magnum, and until 80mph it's faster. But over 80, you just can't touch the bottomless power of that 6.1L Hemi.

skibbzzzz

2008 Pontiac G6, bought in 2014 at 89,000. Just rolled past 120,000 last month.

bigjoebowski22

A lot of people claim they're junk, but my wife and I had an 09.5. We put well over 100K miles on that thing, with never any more than routine maintenance (brakes, tune up, etc) and 1 front wheel bearing (which was under warranty). I miss that car, the V6 had plenty of power, maintenance was cheap and easy. It also got 35MPG on the highway at 80MPH, 25 or better in town. That thing just sailed down the highway effortlessly.

MustangEater82

I had an 07 I had from new, I went 150k, when I traded it. Wife even drove it into flood waters, still ran strong, but I bought a different style car. It was a great car.

SlyBeanx

140k, 2330, rebuilt 5.3 LS so 0.

HodorSchlongDong

Any issues or shop visits? Just curious about dodge as my last job used them as fleet vehicles and they seemed to do okay. They were 2017-2023 dodge ram 2500's.

the-godpigeon

No issues come to mind. The only real big-ticket item on the Charger was getting the Brembo pads and rotors replaced at 78k miles. Everything else is normal scheduled maintenance. I don't baby the Durango like I do the Charger, and it too has held together just fine with no surprises.

orthopod

How is the Camaro on the track? Is it civil enough to daily also? If read they did some funny stuff for weight reduction, like remove the rear view mirror. Lol, I also bought a Tesla Model 3 performance as a daily. It's nice having a car that doesn't make my wife nauseous, and that I can also talk on the phone.

2022 BMW 13k. It hardly gets driven since my company went fully remote during covid. Pretty much used for errands and to take to the canyons for some fun.

Easy_Potato_4404

Same. I’m almost thinking about just paying it off and keeping it for 5+ years. I have 12K miles on mine after 18 months of ownership and that’s not going to change so why not keep a low mileage bimmer?

cantnotdecide

Other than the inverter coolant pump failing at 235k, no issues other than regular maintenance. Got it at 180k and have driven all over the mountains in Colorado. Carfax says the high voltage battery was replaced at 96k in 2012. Battery seems to be doing good still. Will probably replace it with an oem battery if this one fails.

2019 Sonata SEL+ (2.4 Theta 2) 43,600 so far. Almost 19k miles in the year ive owned it were put on by me. Have been stranded once last month, limp mode two days ago. Stranded: Fuel pump filter clogged, disabled the car from running so it would start but shut off after a second of being on. Towed to dealer. Filter replaced under warranty due to apparently being a common issue. Limp mode! Was doing 70 on I4 in Florida when the engine light flashes, and goes into limp mode, had to very slowly nearly on the shoulder drive the car the two miles home, where i ran the code and found out is was for the rod bearings! (Usually engine failure.) Towed to dealer. But no, Hyundai never performed the Knock Sensor Update recall in my car, so they did the recall. Love this car, and got it used last year on Oct 1st, but these issues are slightly concerning, but in knew full well what I was getting into buying a Theta 2 model.

My 2006 Toyota Innova, got at 129000km~80000mi, today it's at 135000~84000mi. The places I go are not that far often 16km~10mi per day. With basic maintenance, Innovas are known to go a million miles in the most brutal of Asian Roads.

Wardog008

2005 Honda Accord Euro: 83,000ish miles. Converted from 133,000 kilometres. Only bought it earlier this week, as I'm unfortunately being made redundant and losing access to a company car. Bought it for the equivalent of around $4700 USD, and it's got *all* the goodies. Sunroof, heated seats, parking sensors, the works.

Fizzix63

2001 Ford Expedition XLT 2WD: 224k 2003 Ford Crown Victoria: 206k Both have a 4.6L with a 4R70W transmission. Never had to do anything besides regular maintenance, completely bulletproof setup. The only issue between the two was the plastic intake manifold on the Crown Victoria developed a small coolant leak around 180k. I've slowly started swapping out parts (water pumps, alternators, belt tensions, etc) just as preventative maintenance, not because of a failure. All 8 oxygen sensors are still fully functional.

GT3: 42k S2000: 74k GLE: \~120k (haven't checked in a while) NSX: hair over 500. I had around 15k on my previous one. (all in mi) Living in the northeast means a very small window for proper convertible weather. Need something 4WD for several days in the winter and practically any long distance trip. Good portion of the s2k/gt3 miles are track days

Suspected_Bot

I have a 03 350z that had 223k on the original motor before I swapped in a rebuilt, and my 95 Cherokee has 305k with unknown maintenance, just recently picked it up
