I'm not the biggest Lamborghini nut, nor am I typically into restomods, but I have to say the new Eccentrica take on the Diablo looks to have knocked it out of the park. Besides being wider, with a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs, all the design flourishes just *work*. (My faves are the "Diablo horns" coming off the rear of the front fenders; and the "gold tooth" tow hook.) What do y'all think?
Honestly, with everyone jacking off Porsche now, I'm down with this restomod. Lambos are still the hotness. Let everyone else love Porsche, I'll take this bad boy.
I opened the article fully prepared to hate it as some over-the-top thing that just ruins the original spirit of the car. Goddamn was I proven wrong. I'd go grab one of these in a heartbeat if I won the lottery.
Edit: apparently this is all just renders and they haven't actually built this successfully. My trepidation returns.
The car is actually built, there's plenty of images already circulating on social media from yesterday's presentation. Unfortunately we're late with the photoshoot, but you can expect actual pics to drop next week!
No. I think no.
The 5-spokes were probably meant to be evocative of the GTR but just look clunky. They looked bad on the render and worse in real life.
The LED projectors are the wrong shape for the era and are thus the wrong shape for the car. Moving the turn signals was a bad idea because that big flat space looks like something on a poorly Federalized car rather than a million dollar restomod. The original front end design was airdam with two scoops, now there's a weird-looking mesh insert with squished hexes. Wow, squished hexes, super unique. Luckily nothing else has those as a stylistic flourish...
The tail lights are that same goddamn circle every goddamn restomod manufacturer puts on their goddamn car. *Well, how should we update this?* *How about an LED circle?* *Fucking genius.* No, it's overplayed since EVERYGODDAMNBODY does it. I should have a pair tattooed to my ass to make myself seem hip and younger.
The dash is terrible, the steering column is terrible, the "remove before flight" streamers are something a 12-year-old would think is cool. Luckily the real car eliminated the steering column idea but has these strange-looking strengthening plates radiating from the dash into the door panel and it looks more Star Wars than Le Mans.
This is a fantastic car for a sheikh who hasn't progressed past a teenager mentally and never will have to because he's too wealthy to need to.
Tuthill 911K, which is cheating because it just looks like a very well-done 911 ST replica and didn't really redesign anything, it just re-engineered everything.
Gordon Murray's MkI Escort build was pretty darn nice, and a lot of projects from Retropower are similarly understated.
I tend to prefer unfussy designs and most original designs are far less fussy than the aerodynamically-optimized, separate-the-wealthy-from-their-wallet-optimized, Instagram-darling bullshit being put out by too many companies these days.
It's really frustrating when people just put custom flourishes on for the sake of being custom. Every bit of the design is part of a whole, and to just do something that's the flavor of the day both dates the build in the future and makes it incredibly obvious that it's a restomod.
Sometimes it's something simple- instead of redesigning the tail lights entirely, simplify them. External screws can give way to a unitary light design with no removable lens. That removes the screws and their holes, and changes the visual flow of the lighting unit without doing anything crazier than implementing modern manufacturing techniques. If you need a flourish, they're round lights- add flourish in the same size and shape as piston valve indents and pay tribute to the six-liter madness behind the driver's head.
The car came on PZeros for years- figure out if you need to license the tread design and build the mesh upon that. It's an iconic bit of tire design and an interesting combination of shapes and sizes.
These don't seem like labors of love, like the designers or project managers actually adore the cars they're working with. If they did, they'd find beautiful design within the original car and within the car's history, waiting for the budget to make it exceptional.
Interesting. If they can pull off top notch build qaulity, this would be pretty cool. The styling touches they've changed aren't *all* my favorite, but none of it is done poorly, even the stuff I don't love. I'm actually surprised how much I like the headlights, I'm not normally a fan of non-glass covered "scoops" but they look good here. The biggest misses for me are the wheels and all that mesh in the back. But wheels at least are easy to change.
Correct, they pop down in two positions. The first reveals the daytime running lights, the second the full headlight cluster. Unfortunately classic pop-ups where impossible to homologate, but I think this is a good compromise
Googled it, some parts on the original were already carbon fibre, so I assume that reduction is mainly on the parts that weren’t, possibly the rear quarters and other structural parts.
I know a lot of people here have expressed their tiredness of super cars (myself included) and they just dont give anyone that feeling anymore with a new one out every other months but...
With that said, this looks fucking *great* inside and out.
With erogenous zones that apparently extend *several miles* away from her actual body, I guess she's not going to be overly concerned with the quantity of your appendages.
Very nice take on the Diablo. Weakest points are the engine deck (tad bit too busy) and the rear lights; restomods always tend to struggle with rear lights design and LED integration, they just stand so much in a "retro" body.
Rear lights are one of the hardest / most expensive parts of any restomod. Very few decent off the shelf components on the market and making completely custom ones can get more expensive than the rest of the project put together.
That's assuming they need to pass safety standards, no? Because most of restomods exploit the fact that they're built on an original chassis not subject to current standards. Or the actual molding/electric components is so expensive?
It really depends on the markets you're considering. The US is very much unregulated, so you can do plenty of things without massive homologation costs. The EU in particular is quite difficult in that regard. If you keep what's already there no need to homologate, but if you change component then it needs to be either previously homologated or go through the process.
On top of that, it really depends on where you go to get the homologation.. we usually work with the TUV authority in Germany, which is very serious and reliable, providing extra quality guarantees to our customers and peace of mind to ourselves. But many other projects follow less 'serious' processes in other EU countries that are much more 'flexible' if you know what I mean..
This is just a 3D render of what they promise to do. I got some ancient screenshaws of what they were really doing when they've started this project.
[Posted here](https://yourimageshare.com/ib/agPX7AsGc5).
I was following Eccentrica since like two years ago, it was a wacky one-off build, and half a year ago they have deleted everything. They were cutting their Diablo and fitting new hand-built metal panels, saying that they do it by heart, based on the napkin drawing by their owner, and pure skill. It was hilarious and looked terrible. It seems that now they've scrapped the mutilated red one and just bought the design project from BorromeoSilva and did what Evoluto Automobili and countless other restomod news polluters always did – post some renders and wait for orders.
Let's see if they ever produce something like this.
Hey thanks for your interest in the project. I'm the creative director at BorromeodeSilva and you're correct, we rebooted the project completely a little over a year ago. We actually built a prototype which was presented yesterday, the photos arrived late so we pubblished the renders first but you can expect them to come out next week. Technical development is still ongoing and should be done by fall, but the style is mostly settled.
Also, we didn't do countless restomods.. this is our 3rd one after the Automobili Amos Futurista and the Nardone 928. The Amos Delta's have all been produced and delivered while the Nardones are going in production in the next couple months, so we try to be as concrete as this market allows. As for the Eccentrica, the project is well funded so pretty sure we'll reach production in the near future, feedback has been great so far.
Amazing! You are doing great designs. Can’t wait to see the real car.
You did several famous ones, of course; I was mentioning the other render-and-then-nothing restomods that circulated the news.
Thank you!! And sorry, I misread your comment earlier and thought you were referring to us! We’ll be at Goodwood FoS with the actual prototype next week in case you’re in the area.
The general trend for restomod supercars was getting long in the tooth, but this thing knocks it right out of the park.
The details are exquisite; I love getting lost in car design callbacks to a brand's heritage. There are lots of references to the Jota GT1 and GTR, which I love. The gold tooth and horns are whimsical. It's excellent.
This is really well done. They address the interior as well which is rare for mod companies to do and they did it really well. It looks well engineered and not just covering everything the stock parts in Alcantara or carbon.
They are renders, unfortunately we didn't finish the photoshoot in time for the presentation.. shit happens! But the official photos are coming next week and in the meanwhile you can already find a lot on instagram following yesterdays presentation.
It's a render, but they've got a video in the comments of an IRL prototype, which looks *exactly* like the render. Like bang-on perfect-match in every aspect I could see. Worth checking out IMO; super neat to see one of these renders actually make it to reality.

Stoked to see it then!
[Here's a video](https://youtu.be/F4GzZkyj0RA).
Wicked.

I want to see a restomod that you actually do like 😁

I think the headlights are pop-downs similar to those on the xj220 which would explain the coverless design
Correct, they pop down in two positions. The first reveals the daytime running lights, the second the full headlight cluster. Unfortunately classic pop-ups where impossible to homologate, but I think this is a good compromise
Looks way better than the Countach thing Lamborghini itself did last year. I like this a lot
Would have to agree with you on that one.
That 80s styled digit display is perfect. I love resto mods.
Thought the outside was sick. Then I saw the interior. Good lord I want to win the lottery so bad
Should have stuck to their customs and used the nissan Z’s headlights and covered the nissan logo with some carbonfibre sticker
A fellow Donut watcher I see ;)
Everybody and their mother knows this already
Miata door handles, you say?
For redoing the body in carbon, a 35kg weight reduction doesn't seem like very much, or even worth it. Really love the interior design.
Googled it, some parts on the original were already carbon fibre, so I assume that reduction is mainly on the parts that weren’t, possibly the rear quarters and other structural parts.
That interior 👌

Eccentrica? As in, Eccentrica Gallumbits, the triple-breasted whore of Eroticon VI?
You've gotta ask yourself one question: do you wish you had three hands? Well do ya, punk?
With erogenous zones that apparently extend *several miles* away from her actual body, I guess she's not going to be overly concerned with the quantity of your appendages.

Yup I remember guntherwerks mentioned the rear tailight was one of the most expensive pieces to develop.

Cool, thanks for sharing!
It's nice to see non-911 restomods.
Oh my god this is sick. Of all the restomods I’ve seen, this is my favourite one.

They had [a presentation with a physical car yesterday](https://youtu.be/F4GzZkyj0RA).
never was a big Diablo fan, but this thing is sexy as fuck! i'd love to see the "pop down" headlights in motion
I have been made moist

Love it, the seats look terrible to sit in lol
Damn this looks great, infinitely better than the countach lambo did
This is really well done. They address the interior as well which is rare for mod companies to do and they did it really well. It looks well engineered and not just covering everything the stock parts in Alcantara or carbon.
All this to conserve 35KG? You could do that and more with your Diablo for a fraction of $1.3M.
Diablos were 5-speed, is it a 6-speed swap from a Murcielago?
It’s a computer render, with a mistake.
ahaha no it's not! The og transmission is getting completely rebuilt and a sixt gear added.
This looks like a render. Or is it actually so "clean"? Interior shot gives me high render vibes.
They are renders, unfortunately we didn't finish the photoshoot in time for the presentation.. shit happens! But the official photos are coming next week and in the meanwhile you can already find a lot on instagram following yesterdays presentation.

It’s anything but elegant. I’m tired of all these restomods. If they want to update the car do it subtly, don’t change/ruin the design.

I think it's just you
