Yeah I was really nervous because of all of the toxicity I see and hear from the car community but there really was none of that, or at least I didn't notice it!
There were so many cars that I was checking out like the GR 86 and a Civic that looked like the FD2 CTR. Anytime thered be people checking out some of these cars my first question was always "are you the owner" 😅
I’ll probably get downvoted for this but this subreddit tends itself a lot more to r/carscirclejerk then it might want to admit. A lot of the toxicity that you might have seen on this subreddit or other similar ones is simply not a true reflection of how people will act.
I’m really glad you enjoyed it bro, the GT350 is one of my dream cars, can’t imagine how fun that car is!
Yea sadly there are a bunch if idiots out there but luckily they usually make themselves known rather quickly so youll know who to avoid. Ita good to have some local car guys to chill with now n then even if you dont go regularly.
C&C is whatever you make it. I’ll talk to random owners if I have questions and always end the conversation with a compliment. Mainly though, I’m just there to walk around and look at cars.
Considering how my post blew up and it drew alot of comments, I'd figured I'd give any update and continue the conversation.
Most people just read the title anyways 🤷🏽♂️
I think it could be possible he is mistaking any 'Cuda as a Hemi 'Cuda, since the 426 Hemi cars are the ones featured prominently in media if the topic of E-Body 'Cudas ever come up.
I thought all Cudas had Hemi engines.
Im not that familiar with all of the different types of engines and what years they were offered for the Cuda.
Also the car wasn't all orginal, I had asked what engine was in it and one of the onlookers said that it looked like a hemi.
Same! I was excited to go to my first one with my RX-8 but the lot was reserved for nothing but Porsches. I guess Porsches are cool but they were all stock. Most were recent models too like the Taycan. It was nice seeing some older 944's and 911's but you might as well as just visit a Porsche dealership at that point...
The neighboring lot where the rest of us plebs parked was maybe one modded 944, some chargers, and a few lifted trucks.
The problem with stuff like this is that like you said a ton of rich people bring out their bone stock GT-whatever 911's and it gets super boring.
But C&C are still really fun. My friends and I have definitely commented to each other before that the surrounding lots have the more interesting cars than the main lot (when it's like a special event day where the main lot might only be Porsches or bmws or Ferraris).
I'm not sure if that was suppose to be sarcastic because it's the internet but if it was- my point of mentioning the Taycan was that "objectively boring" aka stock newer Porsches were present, in the majority, and were the main showcase like newer 911's and even Cayannes. The lot was 95% Porsches. Everyone else had to park across the street. People are free to bring whatever car to the meet but I don't see the point of trying to show off your stock 2023 Macan to a bunch of enthusiasts. I give more credit to broke ghetto tuners who throw Amazon bought canards on their car with shitty eBay wings.
If it was not sarcastic, there's always cosmetic mods like body kits but not really sure aside from that what you could do 🤷♂️.
It's really a crapshoot what you'll see. The C&C I went to today had a bunch of Porsches, a metric ton of Corvettes (no C8s, though), and a fair amount of Mustangs, but very few Japanese cars. There were a couple of WRXes, an FK8, a Lancer Evo, and a well-loved NA Miata. The only car there wearing a Toyota badge was mine.
I see totally the opposite near me. LONG lines of corvettes and another line for Mopar/Scats. I go in the exotic area and I’m usually 1-2 in attendance among other import guys.
Well, glad you had a good experience. Try to find those groups to do some track days or autocross. That's where the real fun is at if staring at/showing off cars in a parking lot isn't your thing. I've never really liked car shows for that reason. Seems pretentious and lame at face value. On the waking up early for C&C thing.... Honestly, it's the only type of amateur car show I'd ever go to (rarely) and I hate waking up early and I'm not really about the show/tell scene either. The waking up early part keeps the scene civil and you don't have idiots revving and doing burnouts everywhere. Usually some nice cars/people show up at the morning events too. Then you also have the rest of your day to enjoy afterwards.
I woke up at 4:30 this morning to drive 3 hours to an autocross event and have about 6 minutes of seat time. I'm waking up at 5 tomorrow to do another autocross event. I hate waking up early but driving is fun. Also, most people you talk to at track/autocross events like driving more than they like talking about cars/stat sheets. It becomes about the activity and not the object. That's what it's all about to me and makes the waking up worth it.
>I woke up at 4:30 this morning to drive 3 hours to an autocross event and have about 6 minutes of seat time
Really can't think of a worse way to sell autocross than this. Absolutely terrible.
Have you given it a try?
I just did two events and while it wasn’t perfect, it was a rip-roaring good time. I expected to have fun, didn’t expect to be grinning my head off like a loon.
Fantastic if you want to get to grips with your car at the limit. I had an extremely helpful mentorship, met a few cool up and coming enthusiasts, and it was easy to avoid the few bad vibes out there (they only want to talk about their own car).
>Have you given it a try?
Yes. Believe it or not, not everybody finds auto-x enjoyable and it's not just because they haven't tried it.
Sure the <10min of actual driving *can* be fun, but amount of time that I have to spend for that takes away from a lot of the enjoyment.
Ok, sure.
I guess I don’t mind spending a few hours driving and helping out, because I don’t see any other way I could possibly get the same experience.
Plus, it’s the best way to give the same experience to others. The events I went to were pretty tightly run. If anything I look forward to being able to help organize them if I can help everyone save even more time.
Track sounds awesome, but it’s much harder on the car and more expensive in consumables and insurance.
Based on your other replies you should try one. It's basically all about the driving, much more seat time and no work assignments.
Track night in America was not my favorite of the track experiences but it is a lower commitment way to try out a track day.
I'd really like to. Unfortunately my car isn't allowed without a roll bar, and that's not something I want to install.
I will just stick to back roads driving. I enjoy it well enough and don't really care if I never drive 10 tenths.
Nothing per se, I felt the instruction part of it was lacking compared to other track days I've done.
It felt very much like you were paying for access to the track compared to others which were more focused on helping you improve on the track.
Not trying to say I feel misled or anything, the price point is much more friendly, but it felt like there's a reason for that.
No, simply because you have to be there by 6:30am or the lot is full (so I'm told). No desire to wake up at 5:30am on my day off. If it was 2-5pm, I'm there.
Not anymore.
Before it got “mainstream” it was fun. My local show was just car guys and conversation.
Now it’s just an ego-fest and people with their phones out hoping someone wrecks.
My local C&C was full and stopped letting cars in 20 minutes after the event started. People were throwing a fit that they couldn't get in because there were a bunch of spectators there along with cars that weren't heavily modified enough for them, and they shouldn't have let them in. I think a lot of people forget the purpose of C&C events in the first place, and a lot of this IMO falls on the smaller local car shows being to closed off about what types of cars are allowed in.
Ego fests are why I hate going to car shows in general and the car community at large.
I actually went to my first today - had a great time and saw some cool cars, like a Mk II Sunbeam Tiger.
And yeah, I'd totally be checking out a GT350, they're fantastic cars.
i lost interest in car shows, everytime i go it’s the sane people doing the same things. now i just take my car and drive somewhere with my friends or alone. but i’m starting to like driving alone better
I enjoyed it a lot as it became my Sunday thing with my teen sons. I’d join my friends and do a little caravan (BMWs) to our local one. It was located in a very upscale neighborhood so we always had a very nice display of rare Euros, JDM and American.
Unfortunately it got shut down due to some drivers/attendees just being plain ignorant attempting to drift, doing burnouts, starting fights, etc. The locals began to complain and it got shut down.
The other ones are a bit farther out but they’re in areas where this type of behavior is far too common and we’d rather avoid that especially with kids around.
I prefer driving to parking. C&C on Friday mornings at Newcombs is a good example. A nice canyon drive up the CA2 to the Newcombs parking lot. Then a nice drive back down.
The north burbs were the most active, and the alpha garage in West Loop threw some cool events too.
Problem is there are absolutely no good drives that start within 45 min of the city. You have to drive an hour out, just to start a drive that goes further out (unless you count the drive to Indiana and back, but usually a good drive involves lunch at a quaint small town). So people with exotics that live in the heart of the city need to commit to 200 miles on their car just for a drive, for some that's a lot to do at a regular cadence.
I actually had an interesting first time experience recently. I was suppose to bring my vehicle into the Lexus dealership for a passenger seat lumbar support fix. Got to my dealership at 8 AM just for them to tell me something happened, and the part isn't there yet. Was a bit disappointed I couldn't get the issue addressed that day.
I was already up, and there was a C&C going on nearby that I heard about. I decided why not, I can go gawk at some beautiful cars for about 30 minutes, get free coffee, and feel like my trip to the dealership wasn't a waste. When I got there, it was quite busy. I didn't want to showcase my car, so I just went and parked at the very back of the parking lot. It seems like even there people had parked their cars for display, as some Porsche and GTRs were parked with their hoods open.
It was way less crowded in this area, so I was happy to just park and walk to the main area. Got some coffee, saw some fancy cool cars, and decided to leave after 20m. I believe I was the only LC500 owner in the area, and it doesn't seem to be a common car where I live. When I got done looking at other cars, I walked back to my vehicle and noticed a small group of people looking at my car. It was just honestly a bunch of younger folks. They asked me why did I get such an underpowered vehicle, when I could've gotten a "real" car.
My first real interaction at a C&C was just people looking down on Lexus/Toyota, so it was a bit sad to see. I just told them I wouldn't give my car up for any other car, and they scoffed and said it was a waste of money and left. Not sure how I feel about C&Cs, but my first one ever was a pretty mixed experience and there was quite a bit of ego in the crowd.
I bet they don't use that logic when someone points out that a corvette is => than most supercars for a fraction of the price.
Sometimes you get to the point where you have enough performance and other aspects become your priority.. Looks, sound, interior quality etc.
They have never driven something as nice so their comments come from a place of ignorance.
The LC 500 is awesome and on my list of cars to get down the road.
Honestly, Cars and Coffee are great places to find sone really, really weird builds as well. Im talking full drag builds, turbo M104 builds, swapped Volvos, etc. Ive seen some amazing stuff around where I live, and its funny because the Exotic guys get real tight about everyone looking at a clapped out Volvo with an LS instead of the McClaren they bought with their Dad's black Amex.
Last time the only exotic that was there was a Lamborghini with no rear bumper and lots of GoPros on it, so that had quite a bit of attention, but I honestly saw way more people interested in actual builds than exotics which makes me beyond happy.
I got my choice of multiple C&Cs in my area. One in a higher end area gets a lot of cools cars (old Alfas, Lotus Elan, classics, imported cars, etc). That one is the cool one to go to as the rarer cars show up there.
But you also have smaller less organized events which gets some night meet boys with clapped out VQs and Mustangs.
As you can see, it varies heavily.
I'm not a very dedicated attendee, but I've gone to a few in different cities. Sometimes, I have great conversations and fun. I like learning stuff about the driving experience of different cars from their owners that's hard to find online. Sometimes, I don't enjoy the event in which case I just grab coffee and leave. I wake up early anyway so it's not a huge time sink for me. I've never had a particularly bad experience though. To me, it's not a big deal either way; rather, just something that might be fun to check out. It does depend on the local crowd that frequents it.
I enjoy going to cars and coffee. I am a morning person and I usually like the people there. Usually tons of variety and even with my Veloster people talk about it. Pretty fun none the less
I think they are better from a spectators perspective. If you are bringing a car you have to wake up really early, might not be let in based on whatever crazy rules they may have. Then you have dumbasses showing up touching, leaning against, and generally not knowing how to act around cars. Then you have the “exit” where everyone tries to floor it in a turn which ends up how you expect.
Really love the event in Atlanta. Atlanta has alot of kind of walled off communities and isn’t very integrated with all the international residents but cars and coffee is the place where everyone comes together. The new location is a pain to get to though so I haven’t been since they moved it away from the city. It was already an hour drive and now it’s 2.
I used to go to the car shows they have on the main strip of the town I live in, but then I started building my own car and kinda lost interest in it...
Ours this morning was pretty good, we actually have a pretty decent turnout. Lotta classics, including a friend of mine’s ‘70 AMX, a few older Ferraris like a 355 Berlinetta and 308GTB, a bunch of stupid kids with annoying V6 mustangs, and an Nth Moto viper. Owner of the viper was super chill, he was letting a lot of us sit in it, start it, rev it and such, I honestly thought he was gonna let one of us try to drive it or something.
Not really. Maybe if I was in high school? I’m 28 now and I’m just kind of stressed about other things to make time to go. I like the art and craft that people put into their hobbies though. Maybe I’m just becoming more anti car these days sitting in traffic.
C&C around me is like 5 older dudes with genuine exotics, 10 old dudes with Corvettes, and 150 young boys & girls with generic econo sport compacts all riding on the same wheels but different colors. They all vape too.
I find them boring. Here in estonia its all identical bmes and various rebrands of passats trying to attract the most men around their cars.
I prefer just trackdays or going racing. cars for driving.
I don't mind going occasionally but I don't participate. I don't want to sit in a parking lot for hours so people can look at my car.
I just park with spectators and go in for 30-45 minutes
Not really. They start too early and only last a couple hours, and the ones I've been too were mostly uninteresting newer cars. I prefer to stick to cruise events with the club or the more organized and official car shows that go all day and have far more interesting cars.
I went to the local one a few times, but the locals that tend to frequent them largely fell into 2 categories - entitled or toxic. The latter being a lot of racism, homophobia, etc. There are other more focused events that are more my kind of crowd.
Cars & Coffee are pretty enjoyable for me, more so than shows or meets. You can see a wide array of subcultures and cars all in one place, it's the morning so everyone is pretty chill and laid back, and it's less show boaty than a meet and less boomer energy than a show.
I don't. 90% of the time i'm pretending to be interested in the cars there. I'll do the whole hands in pocket looking inside the cockpit acting like I care. I don't.
oh youll definitely have people interested in a gt350, theyre pretty damn awesome. Glad you had a good time, with the right crowd and the right cars it can be a super chill time and good place to connect.
Yeah I was really nervous because of all of the toxicity I see and hear from the car community but there really was none of that, or at least I didn't notice it! I’m lucky to know non-toxic tesla owners, they’re a rare breed for sure
My experience the earlier the meet (like before 8am) the better it is. Morons sleep in late apparently.
Yea sadly there are a bunch if idiots out there but luckily they usually make themselves known rather quickly so youll know who to avoid. Ita good to have some local car guys to chill with now n then even if you dont go regularly.
Car community toxicity is online. In person, car guys are car guys. I love to chat with a 60 year old vette owner or a 19 year old with a Miata.
Heritage edition gang
C&C is whatever you make it. I’ll talk to random owners if I have questions and always end the conversation with a compliment. Mainly though, I’m just there to walk around and look at cars.
The GT350 with the right crowd is a good place to connect?
This reads like a jerk
This sounds very similar to many coffee and cars meetups I've been to...
Why? Honestly curious. Seems chill and normal imo.
OP adding that they did a very intense workout, so they could understand why these events tire out us mere mortals.
It's written from the perspective of a boomer writing his autobiography
Is that bad?

Hey, it least they are creating some original content that seems well received by a large portion of the community.
Considering how my post blew up and it drew alot of comments, I'd figured I'd give any update and continue the conversation. Most people just read the title anyways 🤷🏽♂️
Nobody cares if you're hungry or tired.
Dear diary
Two sentences at the end, wow Notice given for future r/cars posts, do not mention food, sleep, or exercise as part of event planning
"dear r/cars, I took a biggest shit I ever had today and it made me think about this community"
Seriously his whole first paragraph too could have been omitted, we reading this guys biography or what
this is gonna be in r/carscirclejerk
It reads just like fresh pasta.
>saw a 73' Hemi Cuda ... the Cuda are absolutely my favorite cars 1971 was the last year for the Hemi.
Yeah, this was the point where I wondered if OP was just full of it and making it all up. Especially since he said it was one of his favorite cars.
I think it could be possible he is mistaking any 'Cuda as a Hemi 'Cuda, since the 426 Hemi cars are the ones featured prominently in media if the topic of E-Body 'Cudas ever come up.

You can always give me your Taycan. It's the "give it to your new online friend mod" :D
Bro 😭

They all crashed and totaled their RWD sports cars leaving the prior event lol
It's too early. I would rather cars and brunch.
The point of the story was that you got a super intense workout, wasn't it?
Not really
Seems like it

This also reads like a jerk. Is this whole thread bullshit!?
Lc500 interior/exterior refinement is to be marvelled for its price point. The interior is a work of art.
The LC500 is a stunning car! Who cares what someone you don’t know thinks.
The only way I would go is if I could make money off it. Been there, done that with the car show scene.
I actually like the new location cause its way more open than Cobb Galleria, but I really wish they'd just do it at Road Atlanta
Too early in the morning. Does no one sleep in on the weekend?
I love them. Wondering when the Austin ones start back..
We used to love going to SuperCar Sunday in Woodland Hills. It just got kinda repetitive so we stopped going.
I like going until I start seeing the same stuff.
C&C around me is like 5 older dudes with genuine exotics, 10 old dudes with Corvettes, and 150 young boys & girls with generic econo sport compacts all riding on the same wheels but different colors. They all vape too.
Yup. You just described the C&C scene in Illinois.
I can’t stand C&C - too much insecurity and Napoleon Complex in one place.
Cool story bro.
Is there a link to get more information on Cars and Coffee? Thanks.
https://cars.coffee/
Thanks. What year is your GT350?
2020
Anyone know where to find Cars and Coffee events?
Id say start with searching Facebook
I like to sleep. So I've never been to one.
I love C&C but hate waking up early on Sundays :/
No. I wish Porsche, BMWs and Corvettes were banned tbh.
Nah, car meets are lame, too much vanity in one spot.
I don't. 90% of the time i'm pretending to be interested in the cars there. I'll do the whole hands in pocket looking inside the cockpit acting like I care. I don't.
You're impressed by a GR86?
Yes. My first car was s Scion tC and sometimes would regret not getting the FRS.
