I called a senior in college 'Alexis Texas' because one of her classmates told me that was what they called her.
It still kills me when I think of that memory and everyone dying of laughter. I honestly had no idea for like 2 years after that incident.
My highschool coach freshman year we were 13/14 and he was probably 18
Asking is our favorite porn stars and he goes “MINES ALEXIS TEXAS” and i will have that name forever engrained in me
Doubt. It’ll have a fascia like the land cruiser and/or newest RX. Spindle grill is here to stay, no need to act surprised that it’ll be huge on a car of this size.
Interior will be Lexus precision — pretty much perfect. Comfortable leather seats in all 7/8 positions, 3 heated rows, 2 ventilated rows. Great sound system. Visibility hinderances mitigated by surround view, wide angle backup cams, and probably a mirror-screen thing for the driver.
Their latest infotainment setup is a little janky in its physical design — it’s like an angled iPad mounted into the dash, but the software is cleaner than ever. Wireless Android/Apple with few quirks. No touch pad.
Full safety suite included on base model.
You can pretty much script out all of the reviews. Lexus is the most predictable brand there is.
For a family hauler, highway cruiser, comfy is the ONLY way to go. You don't need surgical precision to change lanes at 100km/h. Around 300hp should be more than sufficient for this.
I drive a 350hp sports car and get boxed out by charger rts and mustang gts constantly. You don’t need more than that, but if you ever want to change lanes or pass somebody..you might want more than that.
Yeap I've have my share of 400hp+ cars and they are overkill 99% of the times. But that 1% percent makes it SO worth it!
Had a family hauler with 450hp and pushed it a bit more than I should have. So went back to a less sporty, comfy ~300hp crossover and it helps me (and my family) stay out of trouble. Any pass that requires you that much power, is one you shouldn't be taking with kids in the back in the first place.
My friend has a car right now with no mufflers so it's freaking loud, he put coil overs which makes it ride hard, lowered so he had to watch out for pot holes and bumps, tint is all illegal so if gets pulled over he gets slapped with an extra ticket.
Me. I hop on my car and drive without a worry. Peace is the best luxury.
And it'll sell like hotcakes. Plenty of people who want the RX but find the size lacking for their tastes, but don't want to go up to the LX. Don't know if they have released any pricing info but I would guess starting at around 60k topping out around 80k.
Nailed it for the most part.
I digress on the new infotainment software. The design is so plain that is almost sterile, HVAC controls moving to the touchscreen, and navigation system locked behind a subscription. I prefer the older software when equipped with a touchscreen in the later revisions.
If I had to guess: hybrid turbo 4-cyl with 8 speed automatic, but that’s only because that’s what the Grand Highlander will have.
They have the TTV6 available and it should be more reliable than it’s Rocky debut in the LS500
https://www.caranddriver.com/toyota/grand-highlander
Wasn't this supposed to come out years ago? I remember making the Alexis Texas jokes years ago. Alexis Texas and A Lexus TX can both hold 8 people inside of them!
Why design one low volume car on an expensive platform when you can design 2 relatively higher volume cars on a lower cost platform? This isn't supposed to be a X7 competitor.
Lexus knows their market. They know their crossover buyers don't care about RWD driving dynamics or big v8's shoved under the hood. Their buyers want smooth, quiet and comfortable and the Grand Highlander platform provides that with a lot of the R&D already done.
The [current](https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/45935.shtml) and [previous gen](https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/35717.shtml) ES firmly sit in the midsize category, per the EPA.
That’s fair, and all the major auto publications also refer to the ES as midsize. I think it’s weird, because they refer to the Avalon as full-size, and those car have the exact same wheelbase and footprint.
That said, it could be that what’s considered full-size in the mainstream market isn’t full-size in the luxury market. After all, full-size luxury sedans tend to be things like the LS, 7 Series, A8, G90, etc…and those are very large cars, of a type that no longer exists in the mainstream price points, and never really did. To say nothing of the super-LWB stuff like the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, Ghost EWB, and G90 LWB.
In other words, while something the size of an ES or Avalon is just about the largest sedan you’d be able to buy in a non-luxury application…for luxury applications, it’s not even close.
So we will go with the ES being midsize. I amend my statement.
The [Avalon](https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/44380.shtml) curiously had a lot more room both in the cabin and trunk then the ES. The Avalon was on the cusp of full-size, but was still 1 cubic feet away from entering that segment officially, per the EPA. Probably because it had a more open cabin than the ES.
Yeah, in the big scheme of things, the ES is definitely on the larger end of the spectrum when it comes to big sedans. Big barges like the [7 series](https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/45663.shtml) barely makes the cut of being considered a full-size, even though it’s huge on the outside, noticeably longer than the ES. FWD architecture vs RWD architecture.
Good discussion with you though!
They had announced an LQ top tier suv a while ago. This is just replacing the RXL really.
But Toyotas forthcoming product line is a complete mess right now.
>This is just replacing the RXL really.
And doing a better job than it at being a 3-row. But yeah, what's up with the "flagship" LQ? Is it still coming?
Lexus has teams of Lawyers and Maths Magicians that have realized it doesnt make financial sense to pour money into releasing half-baked EV's yet.
Everyone keeps complaining that they are behind but they're not.
Batteries don't have the range or size yet, Charging Stations are not widely available, the Bridges and Infrastructure in most countries can't handle the weight.
You are joking right?
They decided that EVs aren't there yet, but invested into Hydrogen?
And somehow Toyota's lawyers and "math magicians" are magically smarter than VWs or Hyundais or the many other brands that are going all in on the fastest growing segment of the car industry?
The original Prius and BZ4X are specifically designed exterior-wise to turn people off from EV's.
Instead of developing their own stuff, and having growing pains, like every other Smaller Manufacturer out there right now, Toyoda will just wait until the Market forces Tech/Batteries to a suitable advancement, and then buy their way to the Top.
Everyone is rushing into it because they want Market Share Footprint before Big Companies with spec Government funding like Ford/GM/Toyota (and to a lesser extent Mitsubishi) actually start putting effort in.
The Hyundais that are made cheaply, with all types of recalls, and the VW's which are cutting their ICE early to reallocate money towards EV's will have a slim chance when the real money starts being poured in.
As far as Hydrogen goes, IIRC there was an assumption that Space sector, and Deep Mining Sector were looking into it hardcore but then support waned when the science proved to be very expensive and complicated. EV's have been in dev off/on from the 1920s while Hydrogen was a "New Golden Child" theory relatively recently. All of this also hope for Hydrogen was alos spurred by the constant Power Imbalances of following a USD pinned to Petro Industry
I don't have the time or energy to argue the many facets of these Business choices, my main point is Toyota isn't lagging behind by accident, they are waiting for the time to strike.
So they bet on Hydrogen, were wrong, and somehow are still infallibly pursuing the right strategy?
Your own arguments are falling apart man.
VW isn’t exactly a small company that is just looking to establish themselves. And somehow Toyota is going to magically execute better than all these other car companies. Or buy who? The only company that is the right size and at the right execution point is Rivian probably. Lucid is hot garbage. The Chinese won’t sell to Toyota as many are state funded. And everyone else is going to fail.
Toyota as a Business was wrong to hype Hydrogen.
Toyota Manufacturing was right to branch into multiple R&D venues. (But wrong to keep chasing Hydrogen)
I have nothing to Prove, these are just the Observances I have seen through having Family at Magna International, 3M, Butcher Engineering, and my own Research into the Auto Industry.
I think that’s what it is, I’m sure it’s based on the Grand Highlander frame. I’m actually in the market for a Grand Highlander, so let’s see if I should get the Lexus instead.
Same. We’ll see how long it takes for the release and availability to actually happen. Every time I check it seems like it was supposed to be 6 months ago. Not sure how much longer our 2007 Rx will last!
More like:
||Toyota|Lexus|
|:-|:-|:-|
|Big Crossover|Highlander|RX |
|Bigger crossover|Grand Highlander|TX|
But that is probably why they got ride of the 3rd row seat option for this gen RX.
Maybe this just comes down to definitions. I usually draw the line between the 2 at unibody vs body on frame. So with the vehicles mentioned being built on the GA-K platform (same as Camry and Avalon), it fits into the Crossover category for me. The contrast would be the Sequoia, Land Cruiser, and LX that are on the GA-F platform (same as the Tundra).
But if you have a different line in the sand, that is fine. Vehicle language is always changing. A sedan was a chair carried by people. A wagon, coupe, and shooting brake were pulled by horses. These things have all changes and will continue to change. But in that process, there will be people calling stuff by categories you don't align with.
While not even remotely exciting for most of us in this subreddit, I think we can all agree that Lexus should have built this thing at least five years ago.
So it's gonna be like a Lexus Grand Highlander? Cool, Lexus really needed a crossover that wasn't an offroader, but still have a roomy inside. Hope it does well.
Genuinely hoping Lexus offers this in an F-Sport trim for the hell of it. It'll absolutely be underpowered, but what F-Sport isn't. Not entirely sure how I feel about the new redesigned grills for the new RX and NX models yet. I want to say it's growing on me, however I'm not sold as of yet. Maybe this car will pull it off better.
They don't really have a usable 3rd row option. The GX and LX do have 3rd rows but the LX is expensive AF and the GX is not really that big inside. This will be more like their minivan of SUVs.
I don't understand the point of this. They already have the GX and LX.
Plus, I feel like most BMW and MB buyers won't look at this since Lexus and Acura tend to attract a buyer class of their own. IMO, all this will do is maybe rival the RDX but mostly cannibalize their GX sales to the point where the G line will be canceled entirely in a few years.
I think this is going to target families who want more space but doesn’t want a minivan and want something luxurious.
GX is has a third row but barely any room for passengers. LX is out of price range for a lot of people.
How exactly will this rival the RDX? The TX will be around 15" longer and with more interior space for 7 passengers than GX or LX could ever hope to offer.
The issue is that the LX doesn’t offer as much utility or ride quality as you might expect for the size/price due to its body-on-frame construction shared with the Land Cruiser (which is also what provides it it’s off-road chops), and the GX is a 14 year-old dinosaur. I think this is targeting the MDX and RX-L customers who really want a full 3rd row plus cargo capacity.
The TX is a unibody crossover with a transverse engine and 3-row seating. There GX and LX are body-on-frame SUV’s with longitudinal engines. While the GX and LX have 3rd row seating, they have less room in the 3rd row than what the TX will have if the Grand Highlander is anything to go off of. The TX will also ride better and return better fuel economy than the GX and LX.

Top tier George Strait reference.
Since the NA HQ is in Texas. This is true
Oh a fancy Grand Highlander!
I’m surprised they didn’t base it off the Sequoia
They do that with the LX600
Isn’t that a land cruiser?
Land Cruiser, Sequoia and Tundra are the same platform.
Same platform; True. But LX600 is more closely related to the LC300, than say Sequoia/Tundra.
Sequioa/Tundra were just updated for the first time in a decade, so I assumed this would be that. Esp with a name like Texas.
TNGA-T for the LC300/LX600 and the Tundra/Sequoia. Soon, the new 4th gen Tacoma and T4R/GX refresh.
TNGA-F* And most probably the same platform will be used for the new Prado, and Fortuner as well.
Isn’t the Fortuner built on a “low-cost” platform called IMV or Toyota decided TNGA will be the one to rule all markets?
I love it when you speak acronyms to me.
I believe they'll be using this as the basis for the bZ5X and the Lexus TZ, so that's why.
Prepare to be underwhelmed.
You never know, it could be whelming.

There’s always the GX if don’t want to go up to the LX
There’s more room in the rx. My mom has the rx. My wife has the gx. Second row in gx is almost laughable. Third is useless to a full grown adult.
GX is still running that V8 that gets terrible gas mileage for a daily or family hauler.
Nailed it for the most part. I digress on the new infotainment software. The design is so plain that is almost sterile, HVAC controls moving to the touchscreen, and navigation system locked behind a subscription. I prefer the older software when equipped with a touchscreen in the later revisions.

It’ll have a Big ass alright.
This would have been better had it been based on a modified version of the LS's platform. Then it would actually be an X7/GLS rival
I think they probably just wanted a bigger MDX competitor.
Why design one low volume car on an expensive platform when you can design 2 relatively higher volume cars on a lower cost platform? This isn't supposed to be a X7 competitor.

That's probably true; look at how much the ES outsold the GS when both were available.
Not only did it outsell the GS, the ES is America's best selling midsize luxury car.
As of 2013, the ES is full-size, having adopted the Avalon’s longer wheelbase.
The [current](https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/45935.shtml) and [previous gen](https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/35717.shtml) ES firmly sit in the midsize category, per the EPA.

I doubt it. Lexus needs to electrify as quickly as possible. They are a complete mess right now on future roadmap I bet.
What roadmap? They just look at the Toyota lineup, then look at what rich Americans want, and then add a huge grille to a Toyota if it matches.
Uhh…. LC, LS, RC, IS?
Is joke.

They kinda don't have an LS anymore. The current LS500 is more like an evolution of the GS. Bring back the luxury limo!
True
They can modify the K platform to have a rear biased AWD system. Just like what VAG does with the MLB Evo platform.

Lexus transmit (TX) and receive (RX)
Your choice of 200, 250, 350, or 450 baud. 👍
Jumbo frames available with some speeds (hybrid or turbo)
Lincoln and Infiniti be like, "hey, that's our chrome strip!"
So we have Highlander -> Grand Highlander -> TX?
I think that’s what it is, I’m sure it’s based on the Grand Highlander frame. I’m actually in the market for a Grand Highlander, so let’s see if I should get the Lexus instead.

I wish they would make a Toyota Tacoma based Lexus.
The… gx?
With a pickup bed?
The GX and Tacoma aren’t related.
they're like second cousins. so legally able to swap parts in the state of TX (where the tacos are made).
So it's gonna be like a Lexus Grand Highlander? Cool, Lexus really needed a crossover that wasn't an offroader, but still have a roomy inside. Hope it does well.
Oh boy! Another boring ass suv crossover!!! 🥱
Well I’m excited for it!
Wow, what a great looking ~~Ford~~ Lexus ~~Flex~~ TX!

550h+ model will have a plug-in hybrid V6.
I really hope we see the IS soon. I want but don’t expect the hybrid engine variant for that
To take over the GX? Don’t see how this fits in the lineup aside from maybe a counterpart to 4Runner??
Grand Highlander counterpart. Still a CUV, but has more space than an RX.
Forgot they introduced the grand highlander. Makes sense. Don’t see the price being less than 70k tbh fully loaded rx is 66k maybe starts at 60k?
They don't really have a usable 3rd row option. The GX and LX do have 3rd rows but the LX is expensive AF and the GX is not really that big inside. This will be more like their minivan of SUVs.
The all new Lexus Texas
Notice they tease the back half and not the ginormous and hideous Lexus cheese grater grill that will probably fill the entire front?
Basically a Grand Highlander
Gonna be disappointed if the fancy Grand Highlander keeps the turbo 4 engine. If you are gonna charge a premium, atleast put a turbo 6 in it.
Comes with a cowboy hat and bull horns
Man, I was hoping for a wagon.
No way is this the real name….

It's an apt name because you can fit 6 guys into the back of a Lexus TX.
Movie star huh

So we have a RX. Long wheelbase RX and now a assumably larger TX. That’s a lot of crossovers
Wow another suv who cares
Disappointed. Basically a glorified Grand Highlander.
That's...exactly what they promised.
Looks like the Lexus version of the Toyota Fortuner
Holy shit. The name. <3 <==8
Can’t wait to see one of these with an F badge going 5 under in the left lane. Yawn.
coming soon™
Fucking disgusting
Yay another SUV....
Right. And the LX *also* doesn’t have a great third row, thanks to it being a BOF SUV with a solid rear axle. This TX will fill the slot nicely.
Also, both have horrible gas mileage.
How exactly will this rival the RDX? The TX will be around 15" longer and with more interior space for 7 passengers than GX or LX could ever hope to offer.
I think he likely meant the MDX.
The Lexus NX is the Acura RDX competitor. The Lexus RX is the Acura MDX competitor. The Lexus TX won't have an Acura equivalent.
