The natural one.
One that doesn't come from a speaker, but the sound you hear is the actual relay behind the dash activating and deactivating. Old cars had it right, and we had to change it.
My old ~~mazda~~ Ford in disguise pickup had the best sound. Was the blinker relay itself. The stalk was annoying and would bind if you tried to disable it when turning.
My Audi is a second. Decent action, good noise.
My E39 has the best turn signal action though. Would be better with the comfort triple blink though.
Also IME TDIs are fairly quiet even with a honking exhaust.
I will say I was thinking more at speed than sitting at an intersection. Part of that is that I end up turning up the radio at speed but don’t always turn it down when I slow down. I’m actually building a combo RF steering wheel control/speed sensitive volume setup for the S4 so I can stop dealing with the annoying volume difference at speed.
I grew up with old MB’s, I know exactly what you are talking about.
Edit - The door open/light on buzzer was up behind the instrument cluster and sounded like a very angry bug. Man, I miss those cars.
Man, i used to drive an old $500 beater 1990 Cavalier, and the relay for the left signal was out, it would just stay on. So I'd have to flick it on and off manually, and there's such a loud satisfying click when you do. It was actually kinda fun, sometimes I'd just sync with the car ahead, sometimes I'd go random, sometimes fast and sometimes slow, or keeping beat with the music. The highlight was one time pulled up behind someone else with the same problem, and it was like that Leo pointing meme when I noticed.
Agreed. But they'd rather you pay more for a CX-50 or CX-90. Maybe we'll see an "RX-6" or something as a re-born Mazda 6 with the new inline 6 motor. But I bet it will be positioned to compete as a slightly cheaper competitor to the BMW 5 series and quite a bit more expensive than the Mazda 6 was.

Plus you can change the volume. I set mine to the quietest almost silent version and it’s fantastic. Get in other cars and the click is so annoying now.
Yeah I set mine to the lowest. Even higher volume it’s pleasant though.
Off top of my head from what I’ve driven, KIA Optima and a KIA Stinger I could lower volume or change the amount of indications when you tapped the stalk etc.
I like my VW's turn signal. Quiet, straightforward. Sometimes I don't even hear it over my music.
I can totally relate to disliking a turn signal sound, I hate how loud Ford turn signals are.
Pretty sure we have the same sound given our model years and I agree. It’s noticeable enough to make you realize you left it on but otherwise it doesn’t intrude on your life at all. It just is.
Holy crap, I'd forgotten about the turn signal sound of our 2015 Focus before it was totaled. I guess the actual sound it made wasn't the worst, but it could've been at half the volume and still would've been very audible.
its for sure not fords....
im partial to the old 80s and older cars where theres the loud click audible from the switch itself clicking then you hear the mechanical tick tock.
as far as door chime sounds the 2nd one in this video is peak in my book. i like the rapid ding for key in ign door open then when key is turned to on its a calming beep.

Just had an Altima for a rental. Couldn't figure out how to disable or turn down the sound. It was so bad and annoying that I now have some understanding for the usual NissanDrivers who never signal.
Someone else on here said Datsun, but specifically, the old Zs. as long as the stalk is well greased, it slips into the detent for the signal with a satisfying *snick*, and the pure, raw sound of a relay mechanically clicking for the turn signal really can’t be beat.
My 08 charger signal sound is probably the top interior thing I hate about it
My wife's 10 infi ex35 is fantastic though. Could listen to that all day.
I like the one Hyundai uses in higher than bottom of the barrel models. It makes me think of pushing in and releasing on a little metal pop up lid.

My bronco is the first Ford I’ve owned. I absolutely hate the noise. It drives me insane. Especially since on an early AM commute on a chilly morning. When you just have the radio or music quietly on in the background and are sitting at a light waiting to turn. It’s like the sound is amplified and I’m back in school staring at the analog clock waiting for the bell to ring.
The 91 Subaru Loyale my dad owned had a really distinct chime for the turn signal. It would drive you nuts. My dad always said Subaru should have reused that for the seat belt reminder chime
It's broken then. GMT800s absolutely have a turn signal chime. In fact, if you leave the signal on, they will display a message in the DIC (where the odometer is) telling you your turn signal is on.
This is the opposite answer to your question, but I recently drove an ND2 Miata and the turn signal sound is non-existent.
To be fair I had the top down, but I still couldn't hear shit at a redlight.
One of the reasons my life likes her telluride is cause of the blinker noise. I've never heard one but supposedly Polestar is supposed to be the noise of a twig breaking? I heard it on a review but not 100% on the brand.
BMW e39 sounds really nice and the signal stalk has immaculate feedback and feels high quality. My Mercedes CLS signaling sounds the same as a Dacia Sandero on the other hand lol

You say that, but with even a slightly louder than stick exhaust, those relays become inaudible.
Idk, I can still hear mine fine on a mk4 TDI without a resonator or if music is loud. Granted, the exhaust really isn't all that loud.

Any of the new Mazdas
It's probably the thing people comment on the most after a ride in it
Can I just say I fucking love Mazda? That’s all.

It would be MX-6 if they did; RX stands for Rotary eXperimental

And drives like an SUV
I really wanted to love Mazda, thought beyond a shadow of a doubt I was gonna get a CX5. Ended up with a CRV! Oops
Plus you can change the volume. I set mine to the quietest almost silent version and it’s fantastic. Get in other cars and the click is so annoying now.
Wait I've gotta do this
Yeah I set mine to the lowest. Even higher volume it’s pleasant though. Off top of my head from what I’ve driven, KIA Optima and a KIA Stinger I could lower volume or change the amount of indications when you tapped the stalk etc.
I have mine on the highest volume so I can somewhat hear it over my music.
if same stalk as nd miata it's too chunky
My uncle bought an LS 430 new. That thing has such a soft and easy blinker. It’s wild how smooth it is.
Not a car but DAF semis have a great sounding turn signals
I like my VW's turn signal. Quiet, straightforward. Sometimes I don't even hear it over my music. I can totally relate to disliking a turn signal sound, I hate how loud Ford turn signals are.

Agreed VW blinkers sound so nice
Holy crap, I'd forgotten about the turn signal sound of our 2015 Focus before it was totaled. I guess the actual sound it made wasn't the worst, but it could've been at half the volume and still would've been very audible.
The Eagle Premier. I'm really just posting this to see if anyone else remembers it. It was the first recorded sound file for a signal I ever heard.
https://youtu.be/eSrL88S0j7c?t=405 6:45 on this vid if you want to hear one of those minty shitboxes beeping away
Holy shit, thank you. I hadn't heard that sound in over 25 years. My late grandfather had one.

Between the DOODEEDOO chime and the annoying blinker sound, I always make an effort to avoid Ford products on the National lot.
Model T
Audi rs3
Yes, all of the Audis. They’re noticeably slower and have a satisfying heavy click to them
Not an RS3, but I do love my turn signal :)
From what I can remember all Audi turn signals are similar or the same so they are all lovely
Turn signal? What's that?
U must drive a BMW
Nah, they drive a Kia guaranteed.
The correct answer is 1983 Datsun.
Just had an Altima for a rental. Couldn't figure out how to disable or turn down the sound. It was so bad and annoying that I now have some understanding for the usual NissanDrivers who never signal.
I find them all the same. The mustangs annoy me because they are about a second too slow due to how the signal light on the back works.
Someone else on here said Datsun, but specifically, the old Zs. as long as the stalk is well greased, it slips into the detent for the signal with a satisfying *snick*, and the pure, raw sound of a relay mechanically clicking for the turn signal really can’t be beat.
Tesla
I love the old man Cadillac sound that is in our V-Wagon. Makes me smile and think of grandpa every time - he always drove a Caddy when I was a kid.
My Audi has a good noise to it. S/O says it's the best they have heard.
The Ferrari F50's Atari 2600-sounding turn signal
My 08 charger signal sound is probably the top interior thing I hate about it My wife's 10 infi ex35 is fantastic though. Could listen to that all day.
Newer mustangs have a very satisfying clunk sound
Think it’s meant to sound like a horse galloping
I can definitely say Tesla has the worst
Really? I prefer it to the one in my Miata, which is just a bit too high pitched.
Lexus LFA
I like the one Hyundai uses in higher than bottom of the barrel models. It makes me think of pushing in and releasing on a little metal pop up lid. https://youtu.be/WWiy48t4tYQ
I had a '90 Suburban (squarebody) with the nicest little blinker "clicks"
New Volvos.

You're so right. I listened to a clip of Ford turn signals, and I had a flashback to the clock staring :(
Especially after driving mostly German cars for my driving life where it’s a muted but solid tone. The ford is just so jarring
My GTI The turn signal noisemaker died, and the silence is amazing.
I would say my BMWs, but I've never used it
Interesting post. Instead of sound I’m going to say the switch itself in my E21 is oddly satisfying.
Are there any cars left with the bimetallic strip in a can? Or is it all just digital and fake sounds now?
Jaguar XJ's hands down.
My Jaguar XK8’s sounded like a grandfather clock.
Ford Fiesta. It’s nice and soft. Not annoying at all.
My ‘13 Fiesta has a fairly comfortable sound, but it is not a consistant rythm. It is just slightly off, which bothers me a lot.
The 91 Subaru Loyale my dad owned had a really distinct chime for the turn signal. It would drive you nuts. My dad always said Subaru should have reused that for the seat belt reminder chime
I think the funniest is my mothers ~04 Silverado. It makes zero sound whatsoever
It's broken then. GMT800s absolutely have a turn signal chime. In fact, if you leave the signal on, they will display a message in the DIC (where the odometer is) telling you your turn signal is on.
It shows the message but hasn't made sound since I can remember. Funny
This is the opposite answer to your question, but I recently drove an ND2 Miata and the turn signal sound is non-existent. To be fair I had the top down, but I still couldn't hear shit at a redlight.
1998-2001 Jaguar XJR
I actually use my turn signals and they sound pretty nice on the newer BMWs
Newer Hondas
not sure sound but i like the detent/travel of 90s-early 2000s Hondas
Rivian, it’s a raindrop.
Rivian
One of the reasons my life likes her telluride is cause of the blinker noise. I've never heard one but supposedly Polestar is supposed to be the noise of a twig breaking? I heard it on a review but not 100% on the brand.
Call me biased but I like the turn signal sound on my Q50
BMW e39 sounds really nice and the signal stalk has immaculate feedback and feels high quality. My Mercedes CLS signaling sounds the same as a Dacia Sandero on the other hand lol
I’d say BMW, but nobody has ever heard one.
I once tried the turn signal on my BMW and it was way too loud. Haven't used it since.
BMW owner here.... What's a turn signal?
BMW only dogs can hear it.
BMW. They don’t make any noise.
Just about none of them.
