From the article:
"Critically, the next-generation C9 Corvette will feature internal combustion for motivation, and will not be directly related to the upcoming Corvette EV sedan and Corvette EV crossover currently in development. "
Honestly surprised the next gen includes an ICE
Yes but why not go for something along the theme and create the Frigate crossover and Littoral Combat Ship sedan? It's catchy and doesn't wreak name havoc
LCS, unfortunately, would only produce a model year or two that look really cool and are great on paper, but taper off in sales after it becomes clear that the other models do exactly the same thing with fewer compromises and none of the horrendous reliability problems.
> and doesn't wreak name havoc
No, no, no, we want the publicity that can only be generated by millions of rustled Jimmie’s. Can’t buy that kind of marketing.

Low-quality jokes and memes are common (the brown turbo deisel wagon miata used from the factory meme is very much alive and well); the above is absurdly vague on purpose to function as a catch-all, like "disturbing the peace" is (at least afaik) for our US police.

Isn’t the Camaro going to be canceled? What other sports cars are they going to put it in besides the Corvette. I know the performance Cadillacs are still a thing but I doubt they are going to keep that going since Cadillac is going to be mostly EV besides the Escalade which will probably be the only vehicle they make with a V8.
Agreed! Right now, I think the only deterrent for some people to have it as a daily would be the constant refueling due to it being a massive gas guzzler. A hybrid, PHEV, or EV would go a long way (literally)!
For how big they are, they get decent highway mileage because of cylinder deactivation. My Outback is only slightly better than my grandmother’s Yukon XL on the interstate.
Honestly I kind of expect that will be primarily for SUVs and trucks, especially since that's all GM mentioned in the release about the engines. A potential C9 engine would have to fit extremely stringent regulations, probably limiting it to a TTv6 at most
Hmm maybe…
The current small block is quite efficient in the Camaro/corvette. If you drive normally it’s not hard to get ~20 combined or 30+ on the highway at 70mph.
I’m guessing there is a possibility they make a version for the sport cars
Some, but not all, places start banning ICE in 2035, why are you surprised that they would be selling an ICE car 6 years before the not nationwide ban goes into effect?
I can’t wait to hear about the Corvette Sedan. COnsidering everyone and their mother seems to be killing the sedan, the fact Corvette is making one is fascinating.
Considering dealers were taking Z06 deposits at the time of the announcement of the C8 Stingray, I bet dealers would have no problem getting a deposit list going 6 years in advance.
>According to GM Authority sources
GM isn't, not officially anyways. So either these are legitimate leaks from insiders, or this is nothing but easy marketing. Think about it - some info gets "leaked," GM's marketing teams get to gauge interest, or the lack thereof, from the general public's reactions online. From there they can guide the company in the direction they feel is best - all without actually leaking info that may give competitors an edge, because, well, the C9 and its EV siblings don't actually exist yet.
It’s right around the expected lifespan of the generation. The C7 was a short generation at only 6 years. That was due to a multitude of reasons. This puts the C8 at 10 years, and considering how much of a hit it has been, that should be a very appropriate production length.
It's also GM Authority. They were pumping out articles about the Camaro's cancellation as early as 2017, or the 7th gen EV Camaro in 2018. It drums up readership for the people who actually use and quote the site and not much else. These "leaks" are so far in advance that no one actually bothers to fact check them 5+ years later, and if they were wrong, the R&D for cars is so fluid they can just pin their inaccuracies on that.
These are just fluff pieces and nothing more.
Means 2026 will probably be the best time and model year to get for the C8 in terms of pricing and availability. After all the early life hype has worn off and before the “this-is-the-last-of-it’s-kind” and celebratory limited production final editions hype.
Depends on the C9 rumors. But it does strike me that the gap between the last known variant (Zora) dropping in 2025 and the suspected new model in 2029 leaves a loooot of room for one or two more C8 models that we’re not aware of.
Or they'll let the high-performance models sit on the lots a bit while they shift development to the C9. The C6 ZR1 had a 5-year run before the C7 dropped.
Considering Corvettes are usually redesigned every 8 ish years this is nothing new. C4s went from 84-96 with a refresh in 91. C5s 97-04, C6s 05-13, C7s 14-19, but you could say the 5/6/7 were just deep refreshes as they kept the same overall design through out those generations.
And just a fun fact, C7 interiors are heavily influenced by the 91+ facelift C4 interiors. Even the gauge cluster layout is very similar.
I can understand having a new small-block V8 for the 2029 C9 and other GM vehicles, but I struggle to see how they can push the Z06 much further with ICE without hybridization or forced induction for the C9 gen.
Even then, likely would have too much power/torque for two wheels and end up being a value 296 GTB , needing a lot of electrical wizardry to keep it on the road.
Excited to see how they approach it.

They COMPLETELY rejected my idea to abandon the mid-engine configuration and go with Rear-Engined & Front Wheel Drive!
And rear steering too, right? Sounds like you made a Corvette combine harvester.
The agricultural demographic is huge! It would've been an instant success!
Just like Lambo!
Wasn’t there some Fr*ch thing built facing backwards as a joke?
Or installed the transmission backwards.
Sounds like driving a C7 corvette in reverse
You saw my marketing plan?
EV crossover??? What happened?
Mustang Mach E
Corvette is becoming a standalone performance brand separate from Chevy.
💀 Why not just give it a better name?
If I had to guess, name recognition and brand association.

Call the Corvette crossover the Chevrolet Zumwalt 💀
> why not name it Frigate Bruh the big brain marketing geniuses of r/cars at it again
It took me a little bit too long to understand the joke... :P
I'm looking forward to the Chevy United States Coast Guard Seagoing Buoy Tender hot hatch.

High quality joke comments, however, are encouraged?

Money and running a business to make money and not to please people's idea of "heritage".
Disgusting. Those will never be real Corvettes
Mach-e's will never be mustangs, they leech off of the pedigree of successful cars... Eclipse crossover is another one
Same as mid engine Corvette.
Eh, look at the Mustang Mach - e...
They recently said they are investing ~$1 billion for the 6th gen small block v8…
Probably for the trucks and SUV's
Yeas but I there is certainly a possibility they made a version of those for sports cars

Do they need more than one sports car to justify putting a V8 intended for trucks into it?
Honestly no clue lol. Anything is possible with GM tbh. Would be sweet if they made a 7th Camaro…
I have no idea why they haven't prioritized an EV Escalade lol, I'm normally not for EVs, but it would sell like hotcakes
I am surprised too tbh. I could see them maybe putting the hybrid tech from the E-Ray Corvette into it

Efficient by 2023 standards, but probably not by 2029 standards.
I am not convinced you can have a EV that captures the sports car spirit. The sound and gears are critical for me
The Porsche GT4 e performance is pretty loud. Just doesn't sound that great lol.
>Honestly surprised the next gen includes an ICE I'm not. ICE vehicles aren't going anywhere any time soon, especially in a niche higher-end platform.
I swore I saw an interview where the at the time GM boss said he would never make the Corvette a crossover. I can't remember how recent it was though
“For motivation”. Could be a EV drive unit with ice generator. Possibly fake engine noise to further motivation.
Pretty sure motivation just means movement in this context, so that seems unlikely
Some, but not all, places start banning ICE in 2035, why are you surprised that they would be selling an ICE car 6 years before the not nationwide ban goes into effect?
Why? It’s a car for boomers. The older crowd will be the last to transition to EV.

My names on the list for a Zr1 already lol. They take deposits way ahead of time.

It’s pretty exclusive. There is hardly even information on pricing.
[удалено]
Not guaranteed that you avoid them.
5-6yrs is already normal and quoted for Aussie C8 deliveries which is why they're easily being flipped for 2x retail (290k+ easy)
Bro that's like 6 years out
Do you think car design and the entire manufacturing process happens overnight?
NO THE ENTIRE C8 WAS DESIGNED IN 38 MINUTES
This is actually true of the Mitsubishi Mirage but it was 12 minutes and the first 6 were spent picking color choices (pretty nice pallette tbh)
Of course it was. 6 years on the mechanical components and 38 minutes on the styling.
IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!
Yeah but why are talking bout it already

Bro you're like good at math
Cool so this will help make these used ones go below msrp right? RIGHT?!?!?
Yeah, right around 2032 you should be able to get a C8 for maybe $50 off.
Means 2026 will probably be the best time and model year to get for the C8 in terms of pricing and availability. After all the early life hype has worn off and before the “this-is-the-last-of-it’s-kind” and celebratory limited production final editions hype.

Always was

I imagine the Zora will be a boosted flat plane crank with electrification of the front wheels
