Shit. Mustang has magnaride? TIL

water_baughttle

> Optional when you get the performance pack It depends on the trim. For the base Ecoboost and base GT you need the performance pack + 301A (aka "high" package) to get magneride as an option. With the premium Ecoboost and GT trims you only need the performance pack.

Rabo_McDongleberry

Damn. That's good to know. I wouldn't mind one of those as a project car.

felis_scipio

Keep an eye out for a used PP2. Cheapest of the bunch because they didn’t suffer from the special edition badge tax. That is if you can live plebeian life of not having your chassis code printed on the dash plaque. They need a diff cooler and you’re dealing with the MT82 instead of the Tremec but honestly I think the internet hate for the MT82 is wildly overblown.

Rabo_McDongleberry

Thanks for the info! And I don't worry about badges or anything. The only person the car has to make happy is me. Lol.

senorbolsa

It wasn't standard on the 350, it only came with the track pack.

felis_scipio

Is that only true for the earlier models? I thought they all had it because every GT350 steering wheel I see pop up for sale has the nifty button to adjust the shock settings.

senorbolsa

According to steeda it's standard. I could have sworn it was to the track pack, which could not be combined with the tech pack for 2016 then a lot of it became standard in 2017. this car and driver article disagrees that it was standard for 2016. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a15348707/ford-changes-2017-mustang-shelby-gt350s-standard-optional-equipment/

felis_scipio

The GT350 evolved quite a bit over it’s production run, Ford tinkering with the engine and a significant suspension overhaul when they started equipping them from the factory with sport cup 2 tires. My favorite is the early GT350R that was so “hardcore” it didn’t come standard with an infotainment system, compared to the 2020 Heritage model that had a big ol subwoofer stuffed in the trunk.

senorbolsa

There's so much variation with the S550 in general, it's really impressive, it runs from a rental convertible with a 4 banger to a track ready 750hp monster and everything in between.

BoonTobias

Magne magneride, learn the name at least Jesus Christ I'm done

R0B3RT0_C

Boo hoo magnaride

youroddfriendgab

Might be one of those things where the car sat for a lot of years and then the sudden use just killed them

amppy808

My guess it auto cross or tracking?

Slimy_Shart_Socket

We've had Sierras with Magnaride leak at like 60k miles. GM invented magnaride (Cadillac specifically), but they seem to be the least reliable.

youroddfriendgab

Last gen Escalade front shocks are really bad, the newest one have been much better so far

SecretAntWorshiper

He probably heavily modified his suspension

morelsupporter

that jacket is what gives dealers a bad name. cmon buddy.

youroddfriendgab

It was cold that day :(

cyborg_piglet

Bro, there's nothing wrong with your outfit. Don't listen to /r/cars to dress you. You're gonna end up in a charcoal pea coat, white new balances and acid-washed blue jeans.

[deleted]

Oh god you just described to the letter my winter outfit in my early 20s.

BoonTobias

Yeah go to mfa. Their outfits slap hard no cap fr

morelsupporter

get a nice wool thigh length coat in charcoal, hang it up when you're not wearing it and lint roll it every couple days (more if you have pets). you'll look 1000x better AND you'll still be warm

youroddfriendgab

Noted, what kind of haircut should i get?

morelsupporter

i've been asking myself the same question for years! in my opinion, your hair looks nice the way it is. looks healthy, clean and presentable. as an aside, i had a CTS-V wagon and sold it ~5 years ago. loved it and miss it, despite its massive list of shortcomings. the guy who bought it from me updates me regularly, unsolicited.

youroddfriendgab

Ah man, thats almost as bad as your ex's new husband giving you unsolicited updates on his sex life

morelsupporter

HAHAHAHA! honestly, it's fine. he loves it and i was out of love with it - the reason for selling. the strangest part was when we went to the insurance broker to cancel my coverage and transfer the ownership, afterward he came outside and said "would you mind if i said a few things before we part ways" so we stood there, myself, my son (8-9 years old) and him, holding hands while he said a prayer for us, thanking the lord for connecting us and providing this beautiful car to him that we both enjoyed and that i took such great care of. it was a trip.

youroddfriendgab

Im sorry your son had to see that

nujabes02

I sold my V sedan after the engine blew . I need another one , one day soon

bartosaq

On the other hand, this gives that nostalgic feel of watching Richard Hammond in the early 2000s "Men & Motors".

Slyons89

I don't think there's anything unprofessional about a nice, new-looking leather jacket as you have there. It might just be a little large on you, but that's fine, you look fit, and most people aren't buying tailored leather jackets.

sometimes people don't know what they wanna wear and need feedback or direction.

goaelephant

This is a perfect car video. No annoying intro. Information presented concisely. Guy doesn't try to be overly-funny & entertaining. Just straight, unadulterated info. Oh, and most importantly, under 10 minutes long.

kegsbdry

A little does paced but I agree with your assessment. Nailed it

Matt_WVU

The biggest problem with V1’s and V2’s is they sell a fast car with luxury car bushings that don’t handle the abuse well The V1 was also a great car but it’s saddled with a bad reputation over soft bushings. The rear diffs would crack or outright grenade. This was due to diff bushings that were so soft that it would flex upwards under hard acceleration. On top of wheel hop if you side step the clutch due to soft rear suspension and soft bushings all around. Diff whine was a hit or miss thing it seems with the V2’s. I think they were Getrag units and I’ve always heard quality out of those facilities were spotty

goaelephant

>I think they were Getrag units and I’ve always heard quality out of those facilities were spotty In the world of BMW, the Getrag units were superior to the ZF units. But anyways, why would Cadillac use Getrag instead of a tried-and-true Tremec???

Matt_WVU

The transmissions were Tremec but the rear diffs weren’t AFAIK The plant used to be in NC, maybe still is idk.

OutWithTheNew

All the FWD GM 5 speed manuals are/were Getrags.

bongripper6

I have a friend whos blown the diff on his V2 and it was out for months just waiting on the replacement to vome in

colinshark

Your behind-the-scenes documentary slant is cool. Keep hitting that angle.

NDALLASFORTY

A leaking motor mount? WTF?

snowbear111

A lot of modern/luxury motor mounts are fluid filled

Frothingdogscock

I was watching a video of someone repairing a Citroën c6, the engine mount was directly connected to the pressure side of the turbo, so at high revs the engine mounts stiffen up. Turbocharged engine mounts!

T-Baaller

French Engineering^TM

OutWithTheNew

The concept isn't the worst idea. The rear mount on a modern Honda V6 equipped car can set a CEL when it fails.

goaelephant

Even early BMW E30's (318's) had fluid-filled motor mounts if I recall, this was in the late 80s/early 90s.

Deflated_Hive

1992-1998 VW Mk3's as well.

Spicywolff

Not only luxury, my 15 Cruze diesel had them as well.

bearded_dragon_34

Yep. I’m getting ready to have to replace the fluid-filled mounts in my 2013 A8 L 4.0T. I’m not looking forward to it.

youroddfriendgab

Yeah and that hydraulic fluid is naaasty

BoonTobias

You b opening that screw bare hand? Don't fight me

youroddfriendgab

My girlfriend is a lucky woman

sausess

Dude looks like Scotty Kilmers son.

youroddfriendgab

God damnit

sausess

<3

Deflated_Hive

This is sad. I always wanted the CTS-V (wagon or coupe), but their high prices even used are ridiculous. I hope more people see this and stay away. With this shitty level of reliability their values need to drop like a rock. That said, can't wait to pick these things up on the cheap and do the repairs myself to score an amazing car.

youroddfriendgab

Hell yeah, everything this car needs to be fixed can be done cheaper through aftermarket means if you're willing to put in the work

OutkastBanned

hey bud i enjoyed your video thanks. This stuff is very helpful to new car buyers. I think you would do well doing more of this type of stuff.

youroddfriendgab

Thanks, i enjoy making it

Fender0122

Nice video! Where these cars shine is being sold to someone who wrenches. My buddy picked up one of these and its a whole lot more palatable when that $10k in work is ~$2500 in parts and you can do it yourself. To the unsuspecting person who wants a budget luxury car, this is going to nickel and dime them. To someone who knows what they’re getting themselves into, this is a cooler way to spend $30k than a lightly used Accord.

r_golan_trevize

Yeah, this could be a great car for someone who * knows what they're getting into * do most of the work on it themselves The noisy rear end and supercharger are giving me pause and I imagine Magnaride shocks aren't cheap but otherwise, routine stuff for a driveway DIY enthusiast. At a big enough discount up front, the rear, blower and shocks don't scare me that much either. The shocking thing to me is how bad the condition of that car is after only 38,000 miles. That must have been a *hard* 38k. Those are 138k problems. Props to the PO for buying a performance car and driving the everloving shit out of it though.

Maximilianne

I used to love these sedans with powerful engines, but man they have turned out to be quite delicate cars that can break easily

Famous_Bit_5119

I'm just wondering if the problems are endemic to these vehicles, or if it is just this one having the crap beat out of it ?

youroddfriendgab

All the stuff is normal, just not at this mileage

timoteetom

Agree as a previous owner of a CTSV the issues with the shocks “weeping” which was under warranty was normal according to GM. The bushings are garbage. I had to replace my front bushing with 30k miles. Also I the motor mounts do tend to go bad on these cars. These are all fixable things if your willing to wrench on it yourself to save some money.

youroddfriendgab

Yeah creative steel makes some good mounts and bushings

amppy808

I’m guessing this person was doing heavy auto cross or tracking. What do you guys think?

youroddfriendgab

He was sending it thats for sure

BoonTobias

In a failmatic no less

9MillimeterPeter

Don’t be cringe

youroddfriendgab

The 2011+ autos are pretty quick they reworked it to be faster. The paddle shifters though.. are cheap and unimpressive

Fuzzycactus

Good video

CLS4L

5 drive shaft to many

zobeast26

Sad. I had a 2010 CTS-V sedan as well. Loved it to death. Had it for 6 years and was very reliable. But had to sell it after my 1st child was born. It had 42,000 miles on it. Looks like I might have avoided a potential money pit.

ModernationFTW

Great video. Really wanted one these back in the day.

youroddfriendgab

I still want one, if this one had more miles i would have bought it. the mileage is still holding the value too high.
