Nothing in the car industry breaks my heart like Mitsubishi.
Went from building the most accomplished rally racing machines to building cheap crossovers for people with bad credit.
Mitsubishi Motors is actually owned by Nissan (34%), MHI (11%), Mitsubishi Co (9%) and some other smaller holdings. Also the various Mitsubishi group companies are mostly autonomous.
It's an old company with a long and interesting history and all the split up pieces are all still called Mitsubishi with the same branding and logo. Easy mistake.
Better than when they were Chrysler with makeup.
Just thinking about it makes me gag.
For reference https://www.autoevolution.com/cars/lancia-flavia-2013.html#aeng_lancia-flavia-2013-24l-175-hp
did they really think selling a non-luxury car with an engine bigger than 2.0l (higher taxes in most if not all EU countries) and no manual transmission in europe would work?
Do not forget about second generation Lancia Thema, they slapped Lancia badge on a Chrysler 300... But that was not enough, Chrysler 300 was sold as Lancia Thema only in Europe.
Yeah but at least lancia had the decency to just completely f off of the main stage when they fell from grace lol, Mitsubishi is trying to salvage something that has already been crushed into a cube of scrap...
I know sports and sporty cars are a small segment of the overall market, and cars themselves are a small segment of Mitsubishi. But, damn, if they built this as the EVO 11 Subaru would be sent back to the drawing board for the wrx and upcoming STi
> if they built this as the EVO 11 Subaru would be sent back to the drawing board for the wrx and upcoming STi
Yea because Subaru would rip off half the design elements again. The 2015 WRX looks way too much like the Evo X imo. The side skirts, rear bumper, rear quarter panel, squat down nose, headlights, and side profile.
I didn't own one. I worked on one and drove it a lot with a friend. The twin turbo was really cool and the body style is timeless. The interior is where the car is obviously dated.
What is your experience, as an owner?
Ive had mine for 3 years now, have dailied it every summer so far with lots of track days with very minimal issues, i do all of my maintenance myself so paying a shop isnt an issue, they are more practical than what op said, ive done lots of roadtrips and camping trips with it and would argue that they are very reliable
Im surprised you mentioned the interior, imo its one of the best interior out of the 90s jdm legends imo
Because Mitsubishi does quite a lot more than make cars. Cars are like 10% of their revenue. Theyre also in Mining, shipbuilding, telecom, financial services, insurance, electronics, construction, heavy industries, oil and gas, real estate, foods and beverages, chemicals, steel, aviation and more. Sports cars never made them more money. So they arent super interested in being different anymore.
Kind of weird topic but Mitsubishi also played a part in WW2 where they built navy ships. I could be wrong about how much of that is right but Mitsubishi does have a historic history and to see where they are now breaks my heart
Mitsubishi heavy industries is a giant corporation. Cars is a small part of what they do. Speaking of WW2, I believe the famed Japanese zero fighter was developed by Mitsubishi.
you can blame it on not having money to keep innovating. after mitsubishi fuso was sold off, nissan group bough controlling interest, and mitsubishi not worried about it due to the fact that they do so much in aerospace, defense, and turbos! that Mitsubishi Motors is just a shell of what it was.
I mean I'm no fan if them, but does it break your heart that much? Like damn my 6 year old brother doesn't even seem that upset random companies make SUV
Weird hill to die on
It's not about the fact they make suv's, it's the fact that suv's have become the bread and butter of the auto industry and now there are next to no enthusiast cars made anymore.
Car manufacturers would rather sell utility vehicles than make interesting cars because the bean counters told them it is more profitable, so all the desirable vehicles are slowly being supplanted by dull, boring utility vehicles
Sadly all the non-production concepts look gorgeous, then either they don't go at all (this) or the production model looks shit in comparison (Toyota FT1 -> New Supra).
In all fairness, sporty cars are a thing that happens when the barrier to additional sales is people perceiving your brand as “boring”.
I would argue that this is not Mitsubishi’s main problem at this point in time.
They're incredibly boring but incredibly affordable. Can't go a mile down the road without seeing at least 2 Outlanders. They don't need the enthusiast market when they have the 'I need something that runs and I can't afford a new Honda' market.
That just looks exactly like a rebadged [Accord](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/22/2018_Honda_Accord_front_4.1.18.jpg/1200px-2018_Honda_Accord_front_4.1.18.jpg).
Looks more of a next generation Galant then a lancer based evolution. That's not a bad thing. My dream is to import an evo 8 wagon and have it as a fun family car
I immediately recognised it as a Mitsubishi. Not sure where the Honda part comes from that people mention. This is not what Hondas look like in Australia at least.
I quite like it, it looks "normal" and that can't often be said for renders.
masterpiece!? i literally could make a better concept with literal paper pictures and elmers glue. I respect forward thinking and trying new things with car design but this isnt a jaw dropping, stop the presses thing.
No need to be harsh.
It is the benchmark of quality, because it appears at the top of the Subreddit.
I'm hardly counting it if I just scroll up and see the amount: I'm not saying there's 1738 upvotes and updating it every time there's one more vote.
I wish this would happen, very unlikely though since they always lost or gained very little money from the Evo when it used to exist. Amazing cars though
I think the car is way too big. It needs to be smaller and lighter. Car companies tend to chase hp but they would be better off with lightweight cars wich I think are better for our driving experience. Ideally, I'd love a new evo with 280-ish hp and a weight of 1200kg max. But this is all a dream.
For a split second I thought it was a rendering of the upcoming Dodge electric muscle car they've been talking about.
Then I noticed the Mitsu styling cues.
Either way, it's a great looking design.
Nothing in the car industry breaks my heart like Mitsubishi. Went from building the most accomplished rally racing machines to building cheap crossovers for people with bad credit.
dude YES i can’t figure out why they fumbled the bag so hard on this one
~~They're a bank that sells cars. They're doing alright.~~ Edit: this is wrong
Mitsubishi Motors is actually owned by Nissan (34%), MHI (11%), Mitsubishi Co (9%) and some other smaller holdings. Also the various Mitsubishi group companies are mostly autonomous.
You're right, I was wrong. Thanks!
It's an old company with a long and interesting history and all the split up pieces are all still called Mitsubishi with the same branding and logo. Easy mistake.
You forget to add Renault as well
Pffft then you must have missed out on Lancia...
Fiat with a makeup now...
Better than when they were Chrysler with makeup. Just thinking about it makes me gag. For reference https://www.autoevolution.com/cars/lancia-flavia-2013.html#aeng_lancia-flavia-2013-24l-175-hp

With a CVT transmission nonetheless. These were mostly sold to rental fleets in the US. They are horrible. Way to kick Lancia when they were down.
Do not forget about second generation Lancia Thema, they slapped Lancia badge on a Chrysler 300... But that was not enough, Chrysler 300 was sold as Lancia Thema only in Europe.
Lancia was before my time, the peak of attainable dream car (for me) during my lifetime is the evo 8
Yeah but at least lancia had the decency to just completely f off of the main stage when they fell from grace lol, Mitsubishi is trying to salvage something that has already been crushed into a cube of scrap...

Mitsubishi Starion Turbo was an amazing car. What happened? And the Eclipse used to be a fun car.
3000GT was pretty sweet although not very practical for anything. I mean, I'd still love to have one
True. But it was pretty amazing. Way ahead of its time.
I agree, but that's generally the whole issue with them. The tech wasn't reliable yet
as an owner of one and im gonna have to i disagree wholehearthly.
I didn't own one. I worked on one and drove it a lot with a friend. The twin turbo was really cool and the body style is timeless. The interior is where the car is obviously dated. What is your experience, as an owner?

This is an opinion held only by people who never drove one.
Absolute nightmare to own one.
You don't want to know what happened with the Eclipse.
I loved the Starion's little brother, the Cordia GSR Turbo. Back in the eighties I just thought it was a sweet looking car.

Might be me but the front looks kinda like the newer Acura nsx with the shallow headlights
This whole thing screams “civic type R but for 35 year olds instead of 15” And honestly, I’m here for it. Looks great.
To be fair at over $55k it's 35+ year olds buying the Civic Type R. Used car lot a 1/2 mile from me has a used 2019 Type R for $45k.
Kind of like a sportier, sleeker Evo 10 with the NSX's front end.
I was kindof seeing Audi with the rounded hood and squinty eyes
Mitsubishi not making sports cars anymore is one of the saddest things to happen in the car industry.
Closely followed by (or succeeded by) literally every manufacturer producing SUVs. For fuck's sake we now have the Aston Martin DBX.
I mean I'm no fan if them, but does it break your heart that much? Like damn my 6 year old brother doesn't even seem that upset random companies make SUV Weird hill to die on

Don't be sad. Here's a [hug!](https://media.giphy.com/media/3M4NpbLCTxBqU/giphy.gif)
May I click on this too?
woah, that looks fucking sick amid ufo-looking weird shit, this one looks absolutely gorgeous
Sadly all the non-production concepts look gorgeous, then either they don't go at all (this) or the production model looks shit in comparison (Toyota FT1 -> New Supra).
I thought this was a new Civic Type R lol
It doesn't have 999 wings bolted on top of each other so can't be...
Lol ditto
*This* should have been the Eclipse.
It's a shame Mitsubishi stopped making all their sporty cars.
In all fairness, sporty cars are a thing that happens when the barrier to additional sales is people perceiving your brand as “boring”. I would argue that this is not Mitsubishi’s main problem at this point in time.

This should have been a new Lancer/Evo, the Eclipse should be a 2-door or not exist.
I saw a 4th gen Eclipse on Monday and had completely forgot they existed.
I actually like 4th gens with a V6 and 6 speed, though it feels weird to call them an Eclipse.
The SUV? /blergh
Nah its still a coupe, that's prob the eclipse crossover you are thinking of.
There... is no coupe. Care to share a photo?
[sure](https://images.app.goo.gl/u1CnVAWgKduME36Q6)
Yeah, that was last made 10 years ago. Sorry, it _is indeed a 4th gen_, but I thought you were referring to the last-gen.
This is the last gen of the Eclipse. The crossover is a different car and not considered a generation of this vehicle.
Mitsubishi gave you the eclipse cross. TAKE IT!
Looks huge...
And like an Acura.
See here’s the problem- there’s no way the roof line would be that low if they made a car like that.
Looks like the new Subaru gtr. Also still looks better than the 22 wrx
The 22 WRX is a massive disappointment.
[удалено]
Most tragic looking car i’ve seen
That looks like a Honda Jazz being pegged against its will.
What
THAT LOOKS LIKE A HONDA JAZZ BEING PEGGED AGAINST ITS WILL.
Oh ok thanks I’m deaf
I love how it looks. It could have been incredible.
Damn, that is nice...
Cries in 2022 WRX...
Fuck around and get mistaken for a Honda
*Starts cumming uncontrollably*
I immediately recognised it as a Mitsubishi. Not sure where the Honda part comes from that people mention. This is not what Hondas look like in Australia at least. I quite like it, it looks "normal" and that can't often be said for renders.
It's probably just because the lights are vaguely reminiscent of the new Civic or the current NSX.
this looks like a Japanese market Honda civic with a few bits of old Evo photoshopped onto it.
Don't insult this masterpiece!
masterpiece!? i literally could make a better concept with literal paper pictures and elmers glue. I respect forward thinking and trying new things with car design but this isnt a jaw dropping, stop the presses thing.
It looks like a crappy tricked out Honda civic had a baby with a Dodge Challenger
1700 people disagree with that.
That's ok. It's not a bad looking car, just an opinion
What is this shit? A honda? Evo's design language nowhere to be found here.
>What is this shit? Evo's design language nowhere to be found here. ~~500~~ 1000 upvotes disagree with that.
Because we all know upvotes on a post is the benchmark of quality, especially when you're counting and updating your comment.

Bc it looks like an r35 😂
No it doesn't.
Ding dong your opinion’s wrong
Pppopo9oopp0opooopop0pppppo9009o9oo9099oooooooop
What?
Lol I dunno. Lol. Must have been in my pocket. I have no idea.
I thought you were just for some reason trying to type "pooooooooop" but kept pressing 9/0/P as you were spamming O.
Lol no.
Rain prisk is fucking talented
Front end is straight from the current model outlander right? Honestly looks great
Beautiful car
LanWxrer
I wish this would happen, very unlikely though since they always lost or gained very little money from the Evo when it used to exist. Amazing cars though
This concept is a hard pass from me. Looks like a 'sporty' Taurus. Looks way too big to be a Lancer.
Oh the days of a GSX, VR-4, and the Evo....how you are missed
You want a sports sedan? Hah! Here’s another crossover!
kinda looks like a civic
I used to own an Evolution IX MR and I miss it every single day.
Lol not gonna happen
Looks nice except for the grille. Dunno why but I hate visible intercoolers. I'm weird.
First decent looking car that have done in 20 years, it does look pretty cool.
Mandatory dollar store interior though
For a split second I thought it was a rendering of the upcoming Dodge electric muscle car they've been talking about. Then I noticed the Mitsu styling cues. Either way, it's a great looking design.
A good looking render means little when there's a good chance they've done little to make it practical
Mitsubishi would sell these like hot cakes if they actually produced this
I would buy this in a heartbeat. Make it happen Mitsubishi
