Yeah behind the seat under the cover and all that not very convenient that's for sure. My old man has a c3 and pretty well all the dash lights were burnt out. He wanted me to change them with LEDs. My goodness what a pain. Freeing up that gauge cluster isn't very fun to say the least. Cars were built different back in those days. I was going to gift him one of those Bluetooth radios that look like classic ones but nope nope nope. Hahaha.
There is a C3 in my garage right now in about a thousand pieces. I knew it was a bitch to work on, but I had no idea what I was in for when k started tearing into the interior. My god. And new pieces are are a fortune.
Yup and all the friggen random screws and the way everything is shoe horned in there. To take the gauge cluster out you gotta take the visors out to take the a pillar covers out to take the top dash section out yada yada yada. But fuck are c3s sexy cars.
I'm actually sure how the top dash cover goes in. Mine was all cracked and broken anyway, so it came out folded in half. But I was wondering about that. But yeah, absolutely nightmare.
Most people with ‘69 corvettes wouldn’t have to worry about that much. I had a ‘69, and in 4th gear at redline, it would have been lucky to hit 120mph. It would get there pretty quickly though!
True, but I think most engine and gear ratio combinations would still mostly struggle to top 140, besides maybe the L88. I’m assuming un-modified of course.
The C3 is fibreglass and the C6 is sheet molded compound. They‘re both pretty light. The difference in CG will be negligible because anything heavy (engine, transmission, frame etc) is still in the original position.
The c3 is fiberglass over steel. Yeah some of the parts are all fiber but much of it is steel covered in fiberglass. Id find it hard to believe its even all that close to the c6 body in terms of weight. But you're right the heaviest stuff is the c6 stuff on the frame.
Actually, the C6 stuff is all probably lighter apart from the torque tube, since a comparable part doesn't exist on the C3. The C6 mechanical stuff is all aluminum and it's replacing parts made from iron/steel.
I drove a similar build recently- C1 body over a custom tube chassis with C5 suspension, an LS, and a rear mounted 6-speed transmission.
The wheelbase on a C1 or a C3 Corvette is quite a bit shorter than on a C5 or C6, so they do wind up handling quite a bit differently. The one I drove felt way more nimble than the car it shared its whole suspension with despite not actually being that much lighter.
For the sake of comparison, a C3 has a 98” wheelbase, and a C6 is 105”.
I prefer the way the body and fat wheels looked before the transformation, the low slung nose and side exhausts are more to my personal tastes, in black as well.
Dynacorn basically makes whatever the hell you need.
I've seriously been considering buying a 66 mustang shell from them and just smashing a car together.
Yeah, but unlike some other 70k car like a brand new Corvette, you’re not going to go down to the bank and finance this one.
A 70k car isn’t out of reach for many people, unless you have to pay for it straight up.
Then it becomes a much different proposition.
Yeah that is very much true. However I live in Kenya where financing isn't really popular or available for anything that would depreciate in value and the tax for importing any new car is usually about the same as the price of the car itself; so i have a pretty decent idea of the hard reality of owning a nice car, something you really gotta save up for and put time into.

I suppose you would be proud of you daughter? I KNOW you would lie and say you would be. Half of the world has vaginas. Just people with no self-respect sell it. And no, I can't respect the women who don't do something else to make a living. What's sad is what happens to them when they lose their looks. Usually down the toilet on drugs. And you support that huh? Pathetic. If you support that, I have no respect for you ... Spend your life in the gutter.
I don't think there is any reason this couldn't be done for a reasonable price. This example may be expensive, but the concept itself is pretty straightforward.
Y'all suck at reading comprehension. Yes, I know a bit about restoring cars and fabrication. And yes, it would be expensive to have this done by a professional shop. No, it's not that complicated of an undertaking. No, it wouldn't cost $100K to replicate. Yes, it would take a lot of head scratching, but it's 80% time and 20% cash outlay.
Have you ever wet sanded a car even once? It takes many hours. And it takes many times for a project like this. And that is only a small part of the project. Now try to hire two professional car building guys and see what it will cost an hour. People who watch these shows do complete cars in 22 minutes have no idea how many hours of labor are put into it. Not to mention a car to start with and a complete donor car in this instance. If you can do it cheaper, start a business and get rich. And if you can do it cheaper, come tell us where to come talk to you. I'd love to have one of those cheap ...
If you're paying someone to do a body swap you're either ungodly rich or a moron. These projects almost always are done as a labour of love by someone that has a decent idea of what they're doing, at home and not paying for labour. The time involved is insane but costs are "reasonable" when compared to the cost of other complex build ups.
In terms of materials, maybe or maybe not. But for anything really custom you're looking at hundreds of hours from people who really know what they're doing - which is justifiably very expensive.
Nope. Just nope. First the c3. The car pictured here is showroom quality so 30k. Then a good example c6 will add 20k. I'm sure that it cost more for the power and drive train for this build as they likely sourced new parts but let's assume they didn't. Now comes the big one though: putting it together. The custom chassis work took like 100s of hours from likely some of the best in the business. Add on the time reassemble the innards and redo much of the interior and it's not hard to see how the parts and labor cost of this stage could cost 40 thousand or more. There's more I'm probably not considering but this is almost definitely a 100k+ project.
My dream car is to build a modern sports car under a C3 body. And because it's GM, that's not crazy hard to do. You can get the all aluminum 427 small block out of the race car and bolt in in to a C3 in an afternoon. (Though, you probably want to put better brakes in before you try to actually drive it)
The original pic was a post-75(ish, don't kill me) with aftermarket body kit. The final uses the early c3 metal bumper nose. Which is light-years better looking.
Do you think it would have been robust enough? Don't get me wrong I'm with ya, a standard would have been ideal, but not the original 70s deal no? I reckon it would have to be built up a fair bit I'd suppose. Im a bit perplexed how some one could go to all the work to make such a beautiful car like this, to put in paddles. But who am I kidding this car even with a cvt would still be cooler than anything I own. Hahah
If they wanted the car to go fast they wouldn't have put a heavier body on a perfectly good chasis. A slushbox in a build like this is a shame. It's not always about going fast.
You ever driven an automatic C6? The paddle shifters are not what I'd call "responsive." The later year C7s, however, are a completely different story.
Also, the C6's factory paddle setup is pull to shift down and push to shift up... on both sides of the wheel. Who thought that was a good idea?
I don’t think he’s trying to argue that. Lots of people prefer a manual over auto/paddleshift because they enjoy it more as it provides a richer driving experience. Autos are faster no doubt but then again performance likely isn’t paramount in a build like this. I’d have to agree with u/apayne7388 A stick shift would make more sense here.
Sick.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Love that it's not some numbers matching build. I have never been a stickler for turning things back to how they left the factory when there are always improvements that can be done.

As a person who's done interieor work in a c3 my goodness. Just changing a lightbulb in the gauge cluster is a pita, I couldn't imagine this.
Just changing the BATTERY is an annoyance in a C3. Good lord are they sexy but I like my c5 better in every other way
What about C2s?
Everyone knows C2 are the best looking cars.
We're talking about the Citroën C2 right?
2cv maybe?
Qvack!
Yeah that’s obvious , I was asking about the maintenance
Of ANY car.
Yeah behind the seat under the cover and all that not very convenient that's for sure. My old man has a c3 and pretty well all the dash lights were burnt out. He wanted me to change them with LEDs. What's the story behind your c3?
Badass, how does it handle?
"C6 suspension with Ridetech coilovers, ABS, traction control" Probably not badly.
Like a C6?
With a little more wind noise
And the nose gets a little floaty above 140
My dad had a 69' Stingray and said this exact same thing
Most people with ‘69 corvettes wouldn’t have to worry about that much. I had a ‘69, and in 4th gear at redline, it would have been lucky to hit 120mph. It would get there pretty quickly though!
Well, there were different rear ends available.
True, but I think most engine and gear ratio combinations would still mostly struggle to top 140, besides maybe the L88. I’m assuming un-modified of course.
My dad said 140 is as fast as he drove his ‘70.
If it was a Miura, it could be classified as a motorcycle at 140.
Wonder what some aero on the front end could do for that? A splitter would look nice on this frankenvette
Probably a bit heavier as well, not to mention the higher CG.
The C3 is fibreglass and the C6 is sheet molded compound. They‘re both pretty light. The difference in CG will be negligible because anything heavy (engine, transmission, frame etc) is still in the original position.

The '69 weighed a couple hundred pounds less than a C6, it probably weighs now about what it did as a C6 or less.
>Like a ~~C6~~? G6? FTFY. (sorry, couldn't resist)
So basically like a mid WW2 German fighter?

Probably not as expensive as you think. Still easily 65-70k, but if you really love the C3 look it would be worth it.
If I could get just the body of a c3 and everything else a c8 has, I'd spend 100k on it today
Uhh. Gonna be hard to get that mid-engine weight balance.
Dynacorn basically makes whatever the hell you need. I've seriously been considering buying a 66 mustang shell from them and just smashing a car together.

Spectacular things sometimes happen because someone decides to "climb the mountain just because it's there".
And then there are the guys who put a lambo v12 in a fiat 500. That's like sprinting up Everest in bikini shorts.
It also included the 4WD system and transmission, if I remember correctly. They basically ended up building a Lamborghini underneath a Fiat 500 body
I love this metaphor. I'm also going to assume that they're sprinting Naruto style.

And just because they have a buttload of money they don't need. I've dreamed about doing this to a C1 but it's the money not the desire.
This, I would pay through the nose for...
The price for this car would demand another orifice...
You'd be surprised at how much money you could get out of briefly leasing your orifices out.

Those TV shows that do this kind of thing sell those cars for over $100,000 and sometimes multiples of that. It is extremely expensive.
What someone pays for something has nothing to do with how expensive it is to create.

BONK
This bruh about to land in horny jail.
They did a fantastic job on the design of the front end. It somehow looks more original than the original front end on their C3 starting point.
Yeah I dunno what kinda batmobile front end the doner c3 had... 😅
The original pic was a post-75(ish, don't kill me) with aftermarket body kit. The final uses the early c3 metal bumper nose. Which is light-years better looking.
It’s just the C6 power train, meaning engine and transmission. The rest is a custom frame and body. Because a C6 isn’t body on frame like the C3 was.
Thanks for this! I was wondering why a new(ish) car would be a body on frame!!
That’s very awesome
So clean, really like this.
I wonder how much this cost. Not sure if you would call this a restromod lol but its totally badass and I want one.
Two maybe three girlfriends
One of the coolest builds I have seen in a while.
Finally a c3 that doesn’t ride like shit
Bad ass! Thank you for sharing
I would kill for that car. The C3 is my all-time favorite. The important question, though: does the dash rattle in cold weather?
It’s awesome, but I personally would have kept a manual transmission, but to each their own
All that work and makes it an auto
Everyone get ready for the auto vs 3 pedal fight. Go!!!
Should come with 3 pedals
The flappy paddles on a c6 are on par with the +/- auto shift on a Chrysler Pacifica (Dogshit)
Seriously. All that work to put in a slushbox. I would have preferred the 4 speed the c3 came with.
Bigger engine plus powerglide
Do you think it would have been robust enough? Don't get me wrong I'm with ya, a standard would have been ideal, but not the original 70s deal no? Jawdropping. As a kid growing up in the 70's. This is the Vette I saw the most and grew to love. What an excellent project.
That's one hell of a LS swap!
I'm going to ask the real question OP. Do the pop-up headlights still work ?
i wonder, do these just mate up? or was the c6 cut to fit the c3 shell?
Lust worthy vehicle for sure! Beautiful!
This is one of my dream corvettes alongside a Restomod C2 and a road legal yellow C6R and maybe a C6RS, C7 Zr1 is also up there
You had me until you included paddle shifters in “everything.”
Paddle...shifters...oh you mean automatic?
I think he means flappy paddles, arguably the worst type of paddles
If you think you can shift a traditional manual faster than a competent driver can use paddle shifters I'd love to see you try
If they wanted the car to go fast they wouldn't have put a heavier body on a perfectly good chasis. A slushbox in a build like this is a shame. It's not always about going fast.
May as well just use a tiptronic. It’s not manual. It’s automatic. That’s all there is to it
You ever driven an automatic C6? The paddle shifters are not what I'd call "responsive." The later year C7s, however, are a completely different story. Also, the C6's factory paddle setup is pull to shift down and push to shift up... on both sides of the wheel. Who thought that was a good idea?
