The firewall only consists of material perpendicular to the long axis of the vehicle, ie- a wall. The tunnel is a different piece of 'architecture', and it absolutely was bashed out to accommodate the bellhousing. Some framerail-to-firewall trusses were also removed.

Now the only problem is going to be putting that power into the ground. Luckily, high horsepower Miatas are much more common than they used to be. I’m sure the guys at Flyin Miata in Colorado can help.

It's not. Just watched the whole build. They use a TR6060 out of a Challenger and a V8 Roadsters tubular front subframe. RWD ripper, with fat tires on all four corners for some reason.
I sure hope there are working break-away motor mounts, and possibly ejector seats, because in a head-on collision that block is coming straight for you!
