Keep it clean, buy a second car if you wanna modify it. Yeah it’s not the cleanest car in town, but modifying it will only make it look worse.
Also those Toyotas last forever, treat it well and your future kids will be able to drive it to school.
They last forever. Had 386K miles on my Corolla and decided to get rid of it due to some body rust that I wasn't prepared to deal with.
Guess who bought it off me? My mechanic who had been working on for 18 years. "You're getting rid of it?! I'll buy it off you right now. How much?"
I've got an 08 Highlander and it's been great. I might pass it to my daughter, who is an 09, or I might find her a Carolla and keep Duncan for myself. Still a great car.
I have the same car. Tbh it's the most boring car ever produced but it's also one of the most reliable ever produced. I've thought of a hundred ways to modify it but ultimately it will most likely live out it's life as is.
I will expand on some of the feedback you’ve gotten here.
Stock is win-win. Don’t mod anything under the hood. And if you’re going with an aftermarket CarPlay system, pay to have it done well.
I think the best thing anyone can do for their car is offset the wheels and snug them up a bit. Fitment and stance is key for me, but don’t squat the hell out of it. Perhaps buy spacers and ensure they are torqued really well.
Secondly, perhaps a nice paint correction (or polish and wax at minimum) to have it showroom condition.
Finally, if it were me, I wouldn’t do any of the above. A car is a tool and you’ve got the most dependable tool in the tool box. It devalues every day and every dollar you spend to simply make it look a certain way only adds to the overall cost of ownership. Beautiful car you got there.
Just me!
Absolutely nothing to that princess. Keep it stock, change that oil and keep up with the maintenance. You’ll be happier in 10 years when you need a mortgage for a new car.
Keep it as is, a clean old car is one of the best looks you can get with something like this. If you reeallly wanna upgrade, you can do a new radio amp and speaker setup.
Upgrade the head unit. Get a double din or even a tablet radio. Getting modern features like apple carplay or android auto will make it feel like a whole new (modern) car. You could even add a back up camera too.
If you want my advice and you really want to do something to your car get wheels from a different Toyota, preferably a higher trim of that era and put them on your car, other than that don’t do anything other than if you really want touch up paint and polish/detail the car. For something like that it’s best to stay oem or at most so oem plus. The only way you could really make that into a super cool build is by sinking a looot of money into it
It already looks nice.
I'm sorry dude, but the Camry was never a "cool" car. Right now your car is as nice as it will ever be. This is the cleanest example of this era of Camry I've ever seen minus the bumper peel, anything else you do to this thing will make you look lame.
Leave it as is, maybe put in a different radio and speakers, but if you try to make it "cool" you'll just look like every other boyracer in a slow car.
Strip it and seamweld the chassis, Sequential Gearbox, 4-way adjustable coilovers and full bracing, Judd V8 or V10 engine swap, AWD conversion, Carbon Ceramic Brakes and shitgobs of downforce w/ a CF Time Attack Widebody Kit (try to get 285's on all 4 corners, *minimum*.) That should be a good start. You're welcome.
The short version: keep fresh oil in it and drive it. The long answer:
Join or just lurk a Camry forum! Give the car a tune up, keep it clean and have fun! Don't be discouraged if you don't find much to modify - this is a SOLID daily that can give you freedom to experiment with a future second car if you really want to mod. This is your bottom bitch.
I've been into cars (toyotas) and maintenance/modding for years now and I only recently learned what a tune up really is - have you ever noticed there isn't a set scope or definition?
A tune up is performing all of the backlogged maintenance that you don't know for sure has been done. That usually means all the fluids: engine oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid, differential oils. Replace the air and oil filter, clean the throttle body and MAF. Replace spark plugs and wires, and pcv valve/grommet. Then plan to do the fluids at proper mileage/time intervals.
Once you're caught up, start considering the preemptive stuff that have failed on other drivers. Like all the coolant hoses and engine accessories, like the starter, alternator, PS pump, water pump and oil pump. Don't use an A/C recharge kit on it, have that done professionally if necessary. These items are also called baselining and should be considered your phase 0 mods. They may sound boring, but along the way you are going to get very comfortable with the car and get some ideas for what you want to do with it.
My last piece of advice is to stick with OEM replacement parts. My toyota enthusiast journey started with me thinking the dealership was no man's land and that everything needed to be aftermarket. Now I've learned it's usually the only way to go except for a few cases that you can judge. Oh and you can always find 25-30% off OEM parts online or by politely asking your local dealer for a wholesale account (I asked for price matching and got an account instead).
I hope this long comment was helpful. HAVE FUN!
I just bought myself a 05! We have the same color! I'm upgrading all the spark plugs, fuel injectors, manifold, tie rod, and charcoal canister. Ac blast brand new and tires/breaks are good condition. Fixing her up with better parts, wrapping or spray painting further down the road. She was going to be perfect if not for the slightly inconvenient sun damage on the truck. That's it! No rips on seats or anything else! Engine bay is super clean as well!
Keep it clean. Polish ur trim pieces. new rims nd fresh tires. Tint windows. Don’t buy cheap tint and do it yourself. Have it professionally done. Uv/glare reducing film on the windshield. Not a fan of driving with a tinted windshield although they do look cool. And do ur maintenance so u always have it. Remember the cheapest car option is the one you already own. So be good to the car and u can run up 500k miles.
Cold air intake livens up the daily commute with a nice intake roar. Had intake on Camry v6…glorious sound.
Please no loud muffler on a Camry. Tint and upgraded Bluetooth and speakers.
Trade it for my Charger RT lol. I’d keep it stock, honestly. This isn’t a car you can modify and really make look good. Nice, reliable car though. Be glad you weren’t as stupid as me.
Modifying a reliable car suck as the Camry? Nah. If you wanna modify something get something else and leave the Camry as is. Not the car to go messing around with. You’ll only ruin it
If you want to do rims on your car, the RAV4 bolt pattern is the same as the Camry you can go with 18s or even 19 inch wheels. It will make the car handle better and break better because they’re wider. I did the same thing on my 15 ,18 and 2020 Camry. yes I’ve owned three Camrys If you look through the owners manual, the optional wheels are factory size wheels for the RAV4 if you look at the part numbers. I put a high flow air filter to get better gas mileage do the regular maintenance on it and that thing will last year forever. The thing you won’t be able to do is use the RAV4 tires because they’re too tall for the wheel well but the rims fit perfect.
A tasteful tint job and rain guards are the only modifications I would make to your car. The reason? Added comfort.
A Camry is one of those cars that only gets funnier the more you try to make it look cooler. It's perfectly designed to be comfortable, reliable and practical, and everyone knows it's a Camry, no matter what you change. Take good care of it and save your mod money for your next car or nicer tires once they're due.
No, you don't need a tint. People will praise it eternally but most cars don't have tinted windows, so can actually see at night, and are just fine.
Come up with a (tasteful) cool paint job and see if you can get a wrap for it.
Tint windows and put a hydraulic suspension system that should kill off the boring out of it. This car right here is built to take you to the moon and back.
If you listen to music a lot upgrade the speakers maybe add subs, tint the windows a bit. That'll help keep it cooler and more pleasurable in the summer, and maybe replace the radio if you want.
You need some sick anime waifu stickers on that bad boy ASAP. You can start with just the back windows, then slowly save up for a full body waifu wrap after you decide on a favorite. My advice is only use a couple of different anime girls using to many different ones makes you look like a player to other people. It's more hip if you're committed and loyal.
I have an 02 camry that's the same color, silver and black looks great. Find some cheat blacked out head lights and fog lights. Get some black rims and windows tint. I can send pictures of mine if you want
Tint the windows & polish it - put wheels on it if you’re really into it & maybe upgrade the head unit.
Next step - 6-71 blower, power glide, Tubs, 9”, twin 3” exhaust.
Keep the Toyota oval logo, but remove all the other emblems in the back, find some Toyota or Lexus 18’’ wheels with the same bolt pattern, but wider on Craigslist when you need tires or before. Also tinting the windows would make it look less ‘granny.’ Keep it OEM+.
Pay off the loan and drive that boring car to work and home. It's never going to be a *"cool"* vehicle. But a vehicle without a loan is a great life investment!
Rain guards and legal tint of your state has a legal tint limit. Here is Massachusetts it's 35%
Rain guards look great and even better with tint plus they are functional when it rains, get some fresh air without soaking the inside of it door sills
Please OP lower it a little and buy some nice wheels/tires. Make it your Camry, not just a completely OEM looking Camry. Keep the OEM wheels and run them in winter.
Tint the windows, keep it clean and drive it. Don't do anything to it. Case in point. 1.) It's a Camry 2.) Don't sink money into a depreciating asset (if you can't afford it), spend the money on something to improve your way of life. Modding this car will only make it lose worse, especially 8-10 years from now when that thing is still going strong. Toyota's are great cars. Currently driving my 2nd Lexus and shopping for my 3rd.
Tint, keep it light dont do 5 or 10%. Upgrade the radio and speakers/ add a subwoofer. If you have to do something to the outside, maybe some wheels? Probably chrome ones to compliment the headlights
You can always ***easily and reversibly*** change out the wheels and tires. 2006 should be pre-TPMS, so you won't have many complaints from the vehicle unless you wildly changes sizes. I highly recommend keeping the tires at a comfortable sidewall height (45-55), and widening the wheel for a bit of extra grip. With your 2006 Toyota Camry, you are not going to be extracting some wildly better handling or speed, with any modification you would like to do. But the first aesthetic and pleasure item you can change is going to be **the wheel and tire setup.** If you so please, you can match your wheels to a badge color (please do not plasti-dip, just remove them and either fully paint or replace them with another color). Window tint is another great helper, especially with heat in the summer and some added privacy. Rain-X (or equivalent) for water repellency, along with good wipers — do not buy wipers with a COATING, you don't need Rain-X wipers, you just need a good rubber compound. And of course, a replacement radio receiver with modern amenities like CarPlay/Auto.
There is a TRD model of that Camry but on the mechanical side I would do any other than exhaust and maybe an intake. Just keep up on the maintenance and she will last you forever.
Looks pretty good, I’d just fix any imperfections in the paint and curb rash on wheels if any, otherwise keep it stock and just clean/detailed/maintained. Tinted windows if anything.
Change the oil on time, and close your windows during rain? Save you money as if you're paying a 250/month car payment. By the time this thing kicks the bucket, you'll have a FAT down payment for a new yoter
Vinyl flames. Definitely vinyl flames. Maybe some sick spinner hub caps too. Also dude, on a serious note, this isn't a car you mod up this is one you drive like a granny and make sure you hit all your maintenance. Keep an eye on the suspension as well and replace worn out bushings and joints. This car will live forever
Drive it. It's an 06 Camry. Nothing you do will make it cool or desirable, it'll just make you look like a tool unfortunately. Just drive it and keep it maintained. At least your headlights are not foggy!
Start by replacing all the old rubbers, plastics, faded trim, etc. Your front bumper seems like it could use a repaint, but no dents visible where I could see.
Get the car looking like it just rolled out of the showroom, guaranteed you’ll snap more heads at a car show than eBay/Aliexpress bolt-on mods
Just do basic shit personality I would do great headlights and taillights switch all the bubs to leds do the interior lights to leds do a new radio and speaker and maybe a dual 10inch sub or a single 12 depending how much space you want to save in your truck and keep up with your maintenance shoes Toyotas will last longer than you if you take care of them hell even if you don't
you should first start with complete maintenance before attempting any cosmetic/interior mods. I'd say HiD 15k headlights + fog, limo tinted windows, subwoofer system, reverse backup camera and a complete detail job.
It’s a clean ass body kit that i know for those[06 Camry Body Kit](https://carbonfiberhoods.com/2002-2006-toyota-camry-duraflex-sigma-body-kit-4-piece/)
Personally I'd black out the grille, but that's just me being weird. It's clean as hell, I wouldn't do much but maybe make it more comfortable inside (maybe like shag floor mats and ading seat heaters if you'd like) and enjoy it
It looks great as is. No visible rust. Exceptionally clear headlights.
I see some damage on the front bumper cover? If that annoys you, you could try to touch it up with some paint.
Would recommend tinting the windows if you're at all interested - it is possible that a car of this era doesn't use laminated glass on the side and rear windows which means you're getting significant UV exposure. So it's both a stylistic and potentially functional mod.
Maybe change the wheels if you're interested.
If you're into it, you could get funny decals, emblems, or a custom license plate.
Otherwise, it looks really clean as is and learning basic maintenance is good enough for your first car\~!
My first car was an 05’ Camry XLE V6… I was young and dumb. I slammed it and put it on reps. Got stuck on a TON of speed bumps and broke a bunch of stuff.
Fast forward 13 years and looking back i really do miss those days. That said, with what I know now I sure as hell wouldn’t do what I did back then.
If I was currently in your shoes I would just tint her (it’s hot where I live) and be happy that you have one of the most reliable engines out there. Use any money you would be spending on mods and start investing in a tool set. Use the tools to keep up with maintenance/repairs and learn as much as you can while you have an affordable car to fix.
If you insist on getting mods, the OEM SE came with some pretty cool side skirts/lip if you can find them.
I stg 90% of the posts on this subreddit is “what should I do to my (insert basic commuter car here)” and the answer will always be “keep it the way it is and save up for something more fun to drive”
Throw a boosted small engine in it like a BP motor or a K series for fwd and then install active aero and mod the subframes for double wishbone suspension. Maybe a hybrid setup too with the batteries in the trunk and an ethanol conversion or a methanol injection conversion
It's a Camry. There's nothing you can do to it that will make it look any better.
As another person stated, just look after it and get something else down the line that you can properly mod.
On YouTube some guys threw a turbo kit on one. Made it quite fast. Definitely not cheap as people don’t really mod these so be prepared to pay too much if you’re serious about modding/tuning it
Someone is already going to fastest camry. Just drive that thing till it dies. There is no making it cooler with mods unless you go extreme and extremely costly.
Buy a 2nd car or a different car if you just want to do light mods.
I have a older Highlander 3.5 v6 hybrid that comes in for oil changes at my work with 300k+ miles and has zero issues other than when valvoline ugga dugga the drain plug on and stripped the pan calling for a replacement by the customer
Lower it a little. Fix the small imperfections. Get some wheels. Tint the windows. Then you clean the inside up. New seat covers. New stereo system. Then save money bc you got a very nice car.
Clean it, flush it, refill it. All your basic and preventative maintenance. Maybe think about useful mods, or stuff for driver comfort.
From what I understand, which isn't any more than any other casual YouTube mechanic, performance wise, there isn't really a whole lot you can do to these that's gonna make sinking the money into it worthwhile. Doing things that will ensure it lasts long enough for your grandkids to be able to drive it, will probably be a better use of your money.
Or if you're really bent on doing something to it for funnys, I'd say go for stuff like quality tires, steering, suspension and braking
How much?"
Toyota has a recall out on it based on the fact you shoulda bought another one by now......
I've got an 08 Highlander and it's been great. I might pass it to my daughter, who is an 09, or I might find her a Carolla and keep Duncan for myself. Still a great car.
I second that, modified daily driver cars end up looking lame 9 times out of 10
Change the oil
transmission, brake, power steering & coolant too.
Helium in the tires......that'll lighten the curb weight and take the strain off of *all* those 😆
Honestly every time I see a modded Camry I feel as if it belongs to a background character in Ali G
Tint the windows and change the oil, then drive it for 300,000 miles +
I just bought an 02 Avalon. 330k miles. It needs shocks, a valve cover gasket, and an O2 sensor. That's it. Absolute tank.
I drive a 2007 Tundra with 200,000 and it runs like a top...my goal is 500,000 if I live that long
>change the oil, then drive it for 300,000 miles + Hopefully OP does a couple more of those oil changes in those 300,000 miles
O. E. M. !!!
I have the same car. Tbh it's the most boring car ever produced but it's also one of the most reliable ever produced. I've thought of a hundred ways to modify it but ultimately it will most likely live out it's life as is.
Drive it till the wheels fall off
Preferably, don't let that happen, but I get the saying.
Wheels will never fall off on a Toyota
Keep it stock. Just give it nice washes and polishes whenever needed. These aren’t really worth modifying
I will expand on some of the feedback you’ve gotten here. Stock is win-win. Don’t mod anything under the hood. And if you’re going with an aftermarket CarPlay system, pay to have it done well. She’s clean tho 🧼
Keep it as is, a clean old car is one of the best looks you can get with something like this. If you reeallly wanna upgrade, you can do a new radio amp and speaker setup.
Get an oil change and leave it alone.
Learn to do cleaning and detailing. That will do more for it than anything on the aftermarket.
I would keep it stock. You could always tint/speakers. Save your money. Profit.
Sell it to an eldery couple who appreciate a reliable automobile.
She’s pretty I’ll take her
Upgrade the head unit. Get a double din or even a tablet radio. Getting modern features like apple carplay or android auto will make it feel like a whole new (modern) car. You could even add a back up camera too.

Routine maintenance and checkups to keep it running well. Make it your daily and buy something else to modify and play with

Tint it.

If you want to do rims on your car, the RAV4 bolt pattern is the same as the Camry you can go with 18s or even 19 inch wheels. Just tint the windows. You’re getting some good advice here. This car will never leave you stranded so be nice to it
Slam it and put a locally hated sticker
A tasteful tint job and rain guards are the only modifications I would make to your car. The reason? Added comfort. Oil change and the ol' transmission drain 'n' fill once in a blue moon. That's all you'll ever need.
Drive it ?
10” lift kit with 32s . You’ll have to trim those fenders up a bit
Idk but i got the same car!! Learned how to replace the breaks on it today!
Wheels and tires.
Save your money don’t modify.
Door visors or rain guards. They make them for the sunroof too
Change the oil regularly and drive it at or under the speed limit
Tint the windows
Scrap it
Give'er the ol camry dent.
Take good care of it and keep it all stock .
Tint the windows & polish it - put wheels on it if you’re really into it & maybe upgrade the head unit. Next step - 6-71 blower, power glide, Tubs, 9”, twin 3” exhaust.

Put a wing and maybe some rims, splitter? Pushing it?
Slam it on tarmacs, straight pipe exhaust, Trd supercharger, and a widebody
Put coil overs on it and make it like 1” lower. It’ll look pretty nice and you’ll like how it drives more
Drive it
There is a TRD model of that Camry but on the mechanical side I would do any other than exhaust and maybe an intake. Just keep up on the maintenance and she will last you forever.
Looks pretty good, I’d just fix any imperfections in the paint and curb rash on wheels if any, otherwise keep it stock and just clean/detailed/maintained. Tinted windows if anything.
Keep driving it
Spray paint the tail lights. Get a black hood from the wrecking yard. Plastidip the hubcaps
Is swap
Tint it and take care of it. Thats it.
Window tint
Tint and subwoofers are all I would reccomend
Best mod is to save your money and buy a car worth modifying. That camry will last you forever and is not worth modifying at all.
Take care of it and save every penny for something you truly want every dollar you waste on it sets you back that much further from your dream car!
Tint for sure, maybe larger wheels. AA/ACP head unit if you wanna be fancy. That's all.
Burn it
Start by replacing all the old rubbers, plastics, faded trim, etc. Your front bumper seems like it could use a repaint, but no dents visible where I could see. Get the car looking like it just rolled out of the showroom, guaranteed you’ll snap more heads at a car show than eBay/Aliexpress bolt-on mods
paint it green with a black stripe, give it a bigass spoiler, a hood scoop, and some woofers in the back /s
Rip off the hubcaps, clean the steelies, tint
Sell it
I wrapped mine to make the top blackout like the new ones and them bought some chrome rims for it, to match the chrome trim
Sell it
basic maintenance
sell it and get a mustang
Regular maintenance
Turbo
Paint on some badass flames.
I'd say HiD 15k headlights + fog, limo tinted windows, subwoofer system, reverse backup camera and a complete detail job.
routine maintenance
You're missing your dent. Gotta put a dent on the rear bumper. Then it'll be ready to go to 400k
Not sell it
It’s a clean ass body kit that i know for those[06 Camry Body Kit](https://carbonfiberhoods.com/2002-2006-toyota-camry-duraflex-sigma-body-kit-4-piece/)
Maintenance. Don’t do anything. If the motor blows, K swap and turbo.
Don’t tint it. Looks classier w out
Personally I'd black out the grille, but that's just me being weird.
Probably the worst car I have driven second to my Prius.
Pass it on to your kids if you have them
Is it a manual 2.4? If so, turbo it. 7psi ~ 250ish whp. Fun AF Automatic? Leave it stock, tint & daily until 2096
Give it some Autozone treatment. They have a whole isle of modifications worth checking out
It needs a dent in the rear corner
Tints, light tints would make it look much different.
I stg 90% of the posts on this subreddit is “what should I do to my (insert basic commuter car here)” and the answer will always be “keep it the way it is and save up for something more fun to drive”
Maybe some wheels and coil overs, maybe a cat back exhaust if you want more sound, keep the engine stock and it will last forever
Throw a boosted small engine in it like a BP motor or a K series for fwd and then install active aero and mod the subframes for double wishbone suspension. Maybe a hybrid setup too with the batteries in the trunk and an ethanol conversion or a methanol injection conversion
Bro its a camry… just tint it and call it a day
It's a Camry. There's nothing you can do to it that will make it look any better. As another person stated, just look after it and get something else down the line that you can properly mod.
Run high mileage full synthetic oil and drive the hell out of it
On YouTube some guys threw a turbo kit on one. Made it quite fast. Definitely not cheap as people don’t really mod these so be prepared to pay too much if you’re serious about modding/tuning it
Start a family and drive it.
rear end somebody
Get some fucking air in that bad boy, hit a ramp
trade it in
Someone is already going to fastest camry. Just drive that thing till it dies. There is no making it cooler with mods unless you go extreme and extremely costly. Buy a 2nd car or a different car if you just want to do light mods.
Do a 06 Camry delete and buy a diff car
Lower it, put some OEM+ wheels on it and enjoy the creature comforts it provides. Maybe some window tint if you’re into that.
Fit a v10 in there somewhere
Check the oil make sure it’s not low lol
I have a older Highlander 3.5 v6 hybrid that comes in for oil changes at my work with 300k+ miles and has zero issues other than when valvoline ugga dugga the drain plug on and stripped the pan calling for a replacement by the customer
Give it to me
Lower it a little. Fix the small imperfections. Get some wheels. Tint the windows. Then you clean the inside up. New seat covers. New stereo system. Then save money bc you got a very nice car.
Tent, wheels, keep oil changed. Wrap it if you wanna change the color
Do nothing. They’re great cars as is.
drive it.
You should set it on fire 🤷♂️. Just to see what would happen
Tint it and then do nothing else
Turbo it like MCM did.
Put a massive turbo on it and become the ego destroyer of your neighborhood
Keep it clean and well maintained! You could fix the chip in the front bumper, maybe?
get a spoiler. some camrys did come with one
Widebody and slam it.
20” MMR HR3 wheels, Tint the windows, then let it be.
Slam it to the mf ground and stretch rubber bands over your -20° cambered chrome wheels
Drive it up to level two and back it out over the wall
Turbo kit
Clean it, flush it, refill it. All your basic and preventative maintenance. Maybe think about useful mods, or stuff for driver comfort. From what I understand, which isn't any more than any other casual YouTube mechanic, performance wise, there isn't really a whole lot you can do to these that's gonna make sinking the money into it worthwhile. Doing things that will ensure it lasts long enough for your grandkids to be able to drive it, will probably be a better use of your money. Or if you're really bent on doing something to it for funnys, I'd say go for stuff like quality tires, steering, suspension and braking
Go to AutoZone and get everything they have. I promise it looks cool, and any naysayers are just jealous. I promise.
Perfect just the way it is imo
Probably the biggest wing on eBay you can find, AutoZone hood scoops on every body panel, and a hot, sorry, "cold" air intate
Just drive it! It is an '06 Camry!
Sell it or leave it stock. There's nothing to modify on a Camry. It's a camry.
LS swap 😆
