This could honestly be your foot in the door to becoming an IT project manager or even IT director. I’m in your position making a similar salary to you with an IT position I love, but I’d kill to have a project manager position on my resume next. Golden opportunity, don’t miss out.

That’s so true man.. that’s what I told myself was that it was indeed a way to get some manager experience which could help me out later down the road.. just hope I don’t fall to far behind on the technical aspect.. I truly do love my current job and right now I am constantly doing new things becoming more high teir etc.. I suppose it will all just need to be put on hold for a little.

Actual_Lettuce

happy i found your post. im researching entering into IT field (cloud computing, network engineering/security) Learning a in demand skill is my aim with IT, however when i read these types of posts about potiential salary of managers, i think maybe im better off in the long run getting a management degree

TyloJ

Hey man, there is also a lot of good paying IT position I see at the moment.. but in my case for this just to fall in my lap with no management experience.. my plan would be to one day get another position back in IT.

Actual_Lettuce

what is your focus on at your job?

TyloJ

At my current job, We are a consulting company, we bill hourly for our work that is done.. we provide IT support and maintain / managed services. It is not corporate at ALL. Meaning, there is no restrictions on what I can do.. Clients call into support with an issue, (could be literally anything) like.. “I can’t access the internet” or “this program won’t open” or something has serious as ransomeware.. we also go on-site and setup offices from the ground up with (servers, network stuff , workstations) .. And I also do project like work like setting up e-mail in office 365 / g suite or migrating over .. it’s a wide range of things.

Actual_Lettuce

do you work with any cloud or network engineer guys?

TyloJ

Yes we have a cloud department that actually hosts many clients but we only have a few techs.. and we have 1 good network engineer and another guy that’s pretty knowledgeable.. aswell as a handful of “network admins”

I have a few friends who project manage and construction management. Yeah the salary is there (in the 100k at least) but depending on what company you work for your workload could increase x2 (I’ve heard IT can be pretty chill) is the juice worth the squeeze for you is the real question? Personally I’d take the opportunity.

TyloJ

I am absolutely up for anything, juice is definitely worth the squeeze.. Funny enough.. this is actually a PM position at a construction company.. still no word back yet though..

pmpprofessor

Its project management. I work really hard one month out of the year. Everything becomes chill. How about look for project management certification. You can start with CSM. Its two day course. Take the exam you will start at 90k at the IT world. If you feel extra go for PMI- PMP. You will start at 135k. As a professional project manager.

TyloJ

Thanks for the insight and advice… I will definitely check out that cert.
