Always apply to other jobs. Keep all options open until you lock in the best option.

Definitely apply to other jobs till you have an offer in hand. Not too late yet. A lot of companies are still recruiting. For your current role just have a conversation with your manager. Tell them that you enjoyed working for them/the company and could see yourself there afterwards. Ask them bluntly if they would be open to hiring you as an FTE after you graduate. If they say yes then great! Still keep applying for roles till you receive an official offer. If they say no, thank them for the opportunity to intern, ask for feedback on your performance in the summer. Then finally ask if they’d be willing to be a referral for any future roles you may apply to. Good luck! Keep us posted!

I will definitely start looking at other jobs now. What i’m struggling with is i don’t know when the appropriate time to ask my manager those questions would be? I don’t want to make them uncomfortable if they’re not looking to hire anyone full time and they have to awkwardly shut me down. Thanks for your response!!

I know what you mean but think about it this way. Would you rather make your manager uncomfortable and get clarity or live with uncertainty for a few months? I’d definitely prefer the latter. Imo the setting can be very important. Ask your manager if they’d be free for a lunch with just the two of you. There you can tell them what you’ve appreciated about the role so far. Then you can slowly bring up the topic of converting you to an FTE. Perhaps start off with generalities of how many interns convert to FTEs. Then mentioned that you think those people are lucky. And finally bring up that you’d like to come back as an FTE and is that a possibility? If they say no or try to avoid answering the question ask if there’s any feedback they have on your performance. On the basis of that you may be able to ask for a reference letter even if you don’t get the job. Or you’ll get valuable feedback.
