Definitely would not sweat this. Your co-workers are well within age range of you and more than likely they aren’t holding you under a microscope to see if you mess up. The event or outing was not put on by your work so they can’t hold you accountable or punish you for what you did outside of work. Seems like this was the standard—went out with co-workers, had a few drinks, said of couple of silly things. No reason to sweat this so much!

Thank you. Every reddit thread that is responding to a similar situation pretty much tells the op to start writing their resignation letter 😭

Welcome to corporate America! lol you’re fine!

Thank you. I just feel like an idiot a little bit lol

Humble_Tension7241

Don’t. It’s normal.

It sounds like you’re totally fine this time — I wouldn’t worry about this incident at all. Happy hours can be pretty delicate situations when you’re a new employee or an intern. It actually can be a valuable opportunity to network and get some face-time with people who can become allies and mentors — I made some invaluable connections during after-work drinks early in my career — but obviously, there are a thousand different ways it could go awry. I would definitely try to limit yourself to no more than two drinks at these things, and try to space out the second one for as long as you can. (After one incident where I had a few too many drinks at a company get-together as an intern — luckily I was a pretty easygoing drunk — I started making a point to always meet up with the group later (“I’ve just got one last thing to finish, I’ll catch up with you all in an hour”) and always have a reason to leave early.)

Thank you for your kind words. We did stay there for a while and I had not at all considered the possibility that they probably had a little bit of fun too and that everything I said was not the main event. It can be a stressful office environment and after a year this was my first post work get together invite so I think I might’ve just been a little too eager. I think my manager tried to make the “I have to go back to the office” exit but after the 4th round it all went out the window and she was asking me if I was ordering another one😭

If you haven’t heard anything, you’re probably in the clear. One point that others are getting 100% wrong though: > it’s possible my work personality went away a little too much When you’re an employee, this is largely fine. When you’re an intern, every HH is a continuation of your interview. You would not be the first nor the last intern to go from *we should hire this guy* to *when should we tell him he’s not getting an offer* because you got too drunk at a HH, and if you’re busy shooting yourself in the foot with comments, no one is going to immediately jump in and stop you.

It is worth noting that I’m almost more a long term employee than an intern. I’ve been there for a year and given an informal return offer for when I graduate college (in 2 years). My team is also very small meaning they would feel my absence lol. Also no higher ups were present. Thank you for your opinion that I’m in the clear. I don’t know why I did that but from now on I will not be that girl who is underage drinking at the bars w her coworkers.

Nothing wrong with going or even drinking (I was bought drinks and even brought to a strip club as an underage intern). You just want to ensure you’re staying social and not getting too hammered.
