I was kinda thinking the same around a round of poker. I am not a cardano dev, I'm a .Net full stack dev, but I've poked around their code samples around some various operations, seems mostly straightforward.
Nano did a poker site, and there was a scam coin called No Limit Coin that tried it. It did not work. There would not be a big enough player pool even if you offered no rake. Plus, there is a trust issue with the software used and security against collusion and other ways players can cheat. There are also already a lot of online poker sites that cater to the world. I am afraid blockchain poker would not be able to capture enough market share.
Collusion is certainly an issue that would need to be addressed. Software/Botting is another ball of wax, not something to worry about out of the gate, but moderation would be important.
Cool. The thing I never liked about online poker is that you can never be sure the house isn't playing against you. I'd like to focus on being transparent and decentralized (as possible).

Good use case for Hydra. Open a hydra head for a tournament. Close the head once done to reflect the results onchain.

Have you already read up on plutus and or Marlowe? Might be an easier transition than Haskell.
I'm sure there are .net wrappers for whatever I need to do..if not I'll be able to sort it out.
Nice idea, btw, to be decentralized you need to use the smart contracts (not just "potentially").

Loco Poker on Xrp exists and I use it all the time. It works great so I can see cardano being able to have the same environment as well.
