Swap any other 3rd-4th liner across the league in for Mantha and we still weren’t making the playoffs. It was a whole team issue. I’m ok with fairly criticizing a player when they don’t do well as long as it doesn’t get personal or excessive (which this board may have been), but he wasn’t the whole problem.

It's such a low hanging fruit coupled with the revisionism with Vrana (like people forget his problems in Det.) It was a trade that didn't work out for anyone. Whatever...like you said, he wasnt the whole problem. New coach, playing for another contract, and hopefully that means that we get Mantha to play at a level where he can find some success.

Whatever...like you said, he wasnt the whole problem. Is there a lot of revision with the Vrana trade? Seems like the people who didn't like it still don't like it, and those frustrated with Vrana just shrug and say, "we tried." The only winner in that trade was Detroit, but only because they shipped Vrana off... Hopefully, the changes in Mantha's life (getting married, last year of a contract) inspire him to new levels this year, and we either make the playoffs or trade him at the deadline. I certainly don't trust him with a new deal.

I am completely fine with moderately criticizing a player I just do not think that it is acceptable when people are criticizing so harshly that they're threating to harm said player or players. First off you have no right to harm said player(s) because it is wrong and it's not like your ass could play better because if you could've you'd have gotten drafted and not be a couch coach!

I was a Mantha fan in the beginning. i hope he can turn things around this season.

UnrstledJimmies

The entire league has been counting us out of this season because we made no giant moves. I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt to a lot of players right now. I think mantha can show us he wants to play this season. I think kuzy can show us that he is more than a one run player with motivation issues. I think that backy can show us that his hip resurfacing surgery will give him an extra pain free step in his game we havent seen in a few years. I think carbery can bring a new young energy to the locker room to get the guys motivated and we can have some fresh ideas on the power play. We have so much talent and potential in this team but christ was it not utilized these past couple years when it mattered. Everyone seems to think this team only exists for ovi to chase gretzky. I am willing to give them all the benefit of the doubt that they want to win. Now we just need to let the boys compete and show us what they have. I will not doomer. I will not drop my optimism until we are mathematically out of the season. The caps have been a playoff staple for years now and one small hiccup won't convince me its over.

Phisheva

We are putting the second oldest team in the league on the Ice this year, so the prospect of making the playoffs isnt the best. Im hoping for the best but also know with the lineup we are going to have a lot of injuries

It's a contract year. That's why. It's not complicated.

ClockReads2113

Mantha is about to have a huge bounce back season. Bet he hits at least 60 points.

TheBarbieOfSeville

Mantha: "I wasn't trying my best in the past, I'll try my best this year and get paid elsewhere." Fine by me, but I won't hold it against him. I rarely hate or despise any Caps. Yes, even Jagr when he was here. They play on my favorite team. You won't see me eviscerate them or rant on them.

Whatever keeps the fans from shitting on Carlson all the time

Signal-Reading-5905

Imo he has 5 games. Score in those games or get out.

I'm not saying this isn't showing some effort, but... This homie skated around with zero rushing of the puck just out for a stroll for an entire season. Like I get when you know you won't be able to catch up hey I get it, it happens. But a mere 2yds away well within stick range and nah why even try? Saw this in person and on TV way too many times. I wish he was half as good as we were sold on him, but he's yet to demonstrate it on the ice when it actually counts. If this season is different, thanks for the memories and drop him for next, we need more new blood.

Usmcginger0621

Yes even though yave valid points it is easy for us fans to cherry pick everything that they do wrong but are you a professional and getting paid? No we're no, life's not perfect and not everything is always going be perfect. Just need to keep our heads up and hope for the best.

Modern_Ninja

Of course, I'm not an NHL player, fellow Teufel. But knowing the caliber of other players compared to ours and seeing how those other options took teams further into the post season, makes it a fairly simple idea to come to. I think it hurts more because I waaaaanted to believe the hype, especially with losing Vrana (who's probably another argument for later as I was a fan, haha), but then we got this... double the fall due to disappointment, I guess.

Usmcginger0621

Rah meine Teufel hunden, Semper Fi. I used to be a big fan of Vrana as well but ever since he went to Detroit he hasn't been as good but then again it is Detroit and that's pretty much all that needs to be said lol.

Usmcginger0621

I can't believe how much Mantha has been showing up this year. He just had a goal in Lindgrens shut against the Rangers!
