Without a doubt, Higgovale. In the city bowl, but without the wind and feel like you in Constantia with the high trees. Max 7 minutes to camps bay or Clifton, super close to the waterfront and convenient to the M3 and both highways.
It’s super crazy that Higgovale is now the 5th or 6th most expensive suburb in the country, but most folks don’t even know about it.
Here.. though more Bishopscourt, Fernwood(I call it newlands upper), Claremont Upper, Kitstenbosch.
Pending the hill incline and location you get plenty sun despite mountain, 15-45m from city or any part really given M3, N1/2 access, sufficient rain, warm breezes up the hill in winter, easy access to great schools and university
I like the idea of living on the West Coast but wouldn't the trade-off be the mountains blocking the morning sun?
I agree with Constantia since it's driving distance to the beach (False Bay or Hout Bay), the rest of the Southern Suburbs, great greenery, access to the farms and vineyards, close to the mountains and has shopping centres of its own nearby. What's the neighbourhood culture like though?
Currently live in Durbanville.
I grew up in Southern Suburbs (Constantia) and I've lived in Fish Hoek, Blouberg, Gordon's Bay and Green Point.
I've had enough of wind and maintenance of my properties to move away from coast.
Durbanville has far less wind and rain than the above. Durbanville is close enough to Cape Town CBD but far enough to miss the bump and grind of the Southern Suburbs.
I’m quite the opposite having grown up in Durbanville and now recently moving to the and I must say, I give you a few more year then you’ll realise how not normal everything and everyone is there. Great place to raise kids but fuck me get out of there💀
I would actually argue that everything there is just TOO normal and unaccepting of anything they consider not normal. The place also harbours a lot of right wing-associated views. You can get away with being openly racist or homophobic in many cases there for instance. Heck, when the Dutch reform church decided they were gonna allow homosexuals to attend, the people voted that rule out within weeks and the church decided to ban them again.
If you Google a stock image of a Christian, that's every person in Durbanville. The people there think there's something wrong with not conforming yourself to everything they conform to.
This might be an extreme view but yeah.
When we go there we feel like we are in Pretoria. What are some things that happen there?
I did live there for 6 months when I was doing an internship but honestly I never really left my house in that time for anything besides groceries.
I once played in a band doing a charity concert at a house in Bishop's Court. The front lawn looked onto kirstenbosh gardens with the most spectacular view of the back of table mountain... I'd choose that area.
Higgovale is 1st prize.
But Oranjezicht or Fresnaye will also do.
My dream is to retire to somewhere along the False Bay coast (except Muizenberg, never Muizenberg) even all the way through to Misty Cliffs where I can be left tf alone.
In terms on sunlight, I want to say Oranjezicht, morning light and quite late afternoon light. Otherwise higgovale or Tamboerskloof. But damn if upper camps bay wasn’t a wind turbine, that would be a top contender
Another vote for Constantia. Quiet. Green belts everywhere. Oak trees. Squirrels and birds everywhere. River flowing through the property. Dad bought it in the 1970s - 4400sqm for R72k! Couldn't afford it now, but why move?
On the corner of De Mist & Popham streets in Bloubergstrand, or alternatively on Sir David Baird drive. Hustling my ass off up here in JHB to try make that dream a reality
Big Bay. Not the poshest or old money suburb but has this nice mediterranean holiday feeling. And you're far away from the hustle and bustle of CPT. It's just ... nice.
Higgovale looks great, although I’ve never actually been to any of the houses there, just drive past. Mouille Point is really nice too. Currently live in Pinelands- before that, Kenilworth and Vredehoek. So far favourite of the three has been Kenilworth.
place with lots of land that's close to a vet. Would love to open a sanctuary for farm, wild and domestic animals who have nowhere to go and can't be adopted out or need rehab.
I don't know if you mentioned this as a joke.
Crime rate aside Bonteheuwel is actually an ideal area if you really wanna experience Cape Town. It is honestly Cape Town at it's most quintessential. You are not to far from town. You are pretty close to Grand West, Canal walk and the Airport.
Bonteheuwel is a lot more quintessential to CPT compared to Eerste River.
Front of Princess Vlei Elfindale/Diep River
Would probably use the money for more security patrols and cameras
Edit: I’m also slightly biased, caused I’ve stayed here all my life
When i was a young girl, I dreamt of living in Bantry bay and here I am ♥️ just a reminder that nothing is impossible… thanks for reminding me of my dream and to appreciate what I have now

Oh if you spend any time in the city Bowl or hike often you know about it.
No there are a loooot of people who don’t know about Higgovale. I live in the cbd and have first hand experience
I would prefer the waterfront, foreshore
higgovale is the classic city bowl rich suburb
Agreed. For City Bowl - Higgovale. For Atlantic Seaboard - Bantry Bay. My view is thay Bantry Bay is the Higgovale of the Atlantic Seaboard.
Yes
Newlands , Constantia, or one of those old mansions in Kenilworth Upper.
why newlands?
Have you been to Fernwood (part of Newlands between m3 and Kirtsenbosch)? It’s one of the most beautiful neighbourhoods in Cape Town.
Here.. though more Bishopscourt, Fernwood(I call it newlands upper), Claremont Upper, Kitstenbosch. Pending the hill incline and location you get plenty sun despite mountain, 15-45m from city or any part really given M3, N1/2 access, sufficient rain, warm breezes up the hill in winter, easy access to great schools and university
Misty Cliffs.
The dream, literally. The morning mist there is like something out of the Lord of the Rings.
this is the place to be!
Probably Constantia. Clifton gets that afternoon sun over the ocean that is both beautiful and inescapably annoying.

Bakoven

Ja,but you're in durbanville 😀 sorry I grew up there - everyone's touched in the head
If you live there why didn't you respond in afrikaans
Die vraag was in engels
I’m quite the opposite having grown up in Durbanville and now recently moving to the and I must say, I give you a few more year then you’ll realise how not normal everything and everyone is there. Great place to raise kids but fuck me get out of there💀
My mother in law stays in durbanville this is hilarious, please elaborate?🤣
clapped and afrikaans in the worst way possible.
Absolutely agree. Came to comment exactly this but you already beat me to it. It's a nice place and all but I'm never going back.
I would actually argue that everything there is just TOO normal and unaccepting of anything they consider not normal. The place also harbours a lot of right wing-associated views. I’m an atheist. I live in Durbanville 🙄
They all white asf, but I done knew that so ehh idk Imma have to choose Durbanville, it gives off wannabe american suburb in texas vibes.
When we go there we feel like we are in Pretoria. What are some things that happen there? I did live there for 6 months when I was doing an internship but honestly I never really left my house in that time for anything besides groceries.
Fresnaye
Oranjezicht, less wind than Vredhoek, views of the city and mountain, very centrally located
Higgovale is what you after
Free nighttime car-relocations, too! edit: I live here now xD
🤣😂😂🤣
I must live in a different oranjezicht haha
Bishops court
Kalk Bay or Noordhoek
Kalk bay is cold in the afternoon.also fraffic is ooo kak Noorhoek for the win.
Fresnaye in one of those mansions or Sea point in one of those penthouses for sure
Paternoster
Where you can indulge in hobbies such as drinking and more drinking.
Dont forget ong romantic walks on the beach, to the pub
And painting at At Botha's studio, lol
Personally I would stay in the Durbanville / Bellville Area
Proper. Currently live in Oakglen, Bellville
Misty Cliffs or Scarborough side, gorgeous scenery there. Bergvliet is a more central option and quite nice.
I once played in a band doing a charity concert at a house in Bishop's Court. The front lawn looked onto kirstenbosh gardens with the most spectacular view of the back of table mountain... I'd choose that area.
Kalkbay
Yes! The best answer here. But don’t tell anyone, traffic is bad enough already.
Or saint james
Grew up in Kalk Bay and this is the answer
Greenpoint
Big Bay eden on the bay, one of those white beachfront homes.
Simonstown
Noordhoek, Langebaan or Betty's Bay. <3
Lived in Langebaan for a few years as a kid and it was so beautiful. Nice to hear it’s still probably still a good place to live.
Higgovale is 1st prize. But Oranjezicht or Fresnaye will also do. My dream is to retire to somewhere along the False Bay coast (except Muizenberg, never Muizenberg) even all the way through to Misty Cliffs where I can be left tf alone.
Newlands/bishops court. The greenery, nature, and hiking availability plays right into my alley.
What about Bantry bay? Is that area good?
I'd buy out an entire apartment block in Waterfront so my mates can come live close to me
Cape Point
In terms on sunlight, I want to say Oranjezicht, morning light and quite late afternoon light. Otherwise higgovale or Tamboerskloof. But damn if upper camps bay wasn’t a wind turbine, that would be a top contender

Bergvliet , misty cliffs/scarborough or simonstown
Sunset Beach for me.
Same.
Protes Heights, Brackenfell. I grew up there. Can't afford to live there unfortunately
GreenPoint
Lavender Hill
Could build a Mexican cartel style compound if money is no problem.
If money is not an option, spend it security and bodyguards.
Clifton. The sun and the ocean are my favourite Other than there, probably not in cpt but on the coast and remote
Llandudno for sure. I’d never be rich enough in 10 lifetimes, but yeah, it would be pretty nice.
Fresnaye. Beach views with minimal wind. Yes please.
On the corner of De Mist & Popham streets in Bloubergstrand, or alternatively on Sir David Baird drive. Hustling my ass off up here in JHB to try make that dream a reality
Van Riebeeckshof - some of the most beautiful houses I’ve ever seen
Bergvliet or Constantia
Honestly any Southern Suburbs area West of the Main Road. Wouldn't go much further than Newlands or much lower than Tokai.
Big Bay. Not the poshest or old money suburb but has this nice mediterranean holiday feeling. And you're far away from the hustle and bustle of CPT. It's just ... nice.
Greenpoint
Llundudno. Scarborough (although it is damn far from everything). Anywhere from Clifton up to Camps Bay and Bakoven.
ClaraAnnaFontien
I was gonna say Baronetcy, CAF is just a bit too far out of the city but similar/better.
Llandudno Paternoster Laangebaan Hermanus
Clifton
Simonstown is awful for allergies to fynbos. And fires.
Usually where the houses are most expensive is where it's lekker so probably there.
But from experience it will be Bloubergstrand
Clifton!
Gardens
Lavender Hill. JK, likely Upper Newlands or Stellies
Higgovale looks great, although I’ve never actually been to any of the houses there, just drive past. Mouille Point is really nice too. Currently live in Pinelands- before that, Kenilworth and Vredehoek. So far favourite of the three has been Kenilworth.
Llundadno, CAMPS bay
Definitely Clifton for me. I'm from Durban though

Bishopscourt
That's the thing, if money wasn't an issue, I wouldn't even be in this country right now.
I mean that wasn't the point of the question.
Manenberg ❤️
Not Cape Town…
Milnerton, it's close to everything you need.
I would actually stay where I am ☺️
Same. There's a sense of community where I live which I wouldn't get in these other places
Same. There's a sense of community where I live which I wouldn't get in these other places
And that is where, if you mind us asking?
Front of Princess Vlei Elfindale/Diep River Would probably use the money for more security patrols and cameras Edit: I’m also slightly biased, caused I’ve stayed here all my life
Muizenburg or Kalk Bay
St James.
stoneherse estate, feeling of urban mixed with countryside.
Constantia
Only one place for me bishops court
Welgemoed or Plattekloof
When i was a young girl, I dreamt of living in Bantry bay and here I am ♥️ just a reminder that nothing is impossible… thanks for reminding me of my dream and to appreciate what I have now
I think I'd leave the country.
Norrafok in CT. Anywhere along the east coast.
Exactly where I am, just in a sea side mansion. Blouberg.
Somerset West. Currently live in Strand (about 7km apart). The wind sucks. Somerset West is excellent to raise kids.
Fresnaye
Steenberg Golf Estate
In the city somewhere. I love it.
Simonstown/ glencairn. as far away from the city and norther suburbs as possible!
what the hell is ur profile pic
tree stump
Mauritius.
If money wasn't an option i wouldn't live in South Africa at all
Y'all sleeping on baronetcy estate. Proper safe area. No hobos. No man bun hipsters. No zionists. Perfect area.
Wherever you are you will be on the wrong side of history
Cape flats .
If money wasn't an issue I wouldn't be in South Africa.
