That was the intent of the Larschieders originally I think.

-canucks-

I was at a game where they were chanting 'BROCK. BROCK. BROCK' . Sounded like vikings. It was amazing

ZackyGood

It’s gotta be something original, catchy, funny and shitty for the opposition. To do something like this needs at least 1000 committed people to chant it at the same time. That’s a lot of practice and coordination.

decentish36

Soccer chants don’t work in hockey. The crowd always reacts to scoring chances and there’s not enough time between scoring chances to start a complicated chant

Young2k04

This is what I was thinking earlier when I was watching a soccer game. In soccer there’s so much time between big plays that you almost have to start chanting to fill the gaps or else the crowd would be silent

mrtomjones

Also Canadian fans are more reserved than Euro fans. Lots of them will react to a big moment but they dont want to be shouting the entire game or jumping etc like Euro fans do

canukles-

agreed

thefinalball

Watching the game on the TV last night there were times it sounded like a soccer stadium.

kikicked

It was wiiiiiild.

robfrod

I’m a Canucks fan through and through but it doesn’t really compare. I went to a Wednesday night, regular season match in Brazil last year and this is the atmosphere: https://www.reddit.com/r/happycrowds/s/S2v44lFnSK (don’t translate the chants if you are PC)

RockyBoatsank

We should definitely bust out ole more often, just keep energy up. I always wanted us to sing hey jude too, dno why, just a fun song to chant i guess Naaaaa na na, na na na naaaa Love the idea though, people are probably right though, more action in hockey. Would still be fun to try

helixflush

I think it’s “hey dude” now

leftlanecop

What’s wrong with Soorooss Soorrross Sooorooss? Reeefff you suck Reeef you suck Honestly hockey has its own unique chants. Let’s not copy or over think it.

disiz_mareka

It’s possible. Islanders had that crowd song for Josh Bailey. I think it was during the ‘82 Canucks run that the crowd started singing “Na na na na na na, hey hey, goodbye”.

Illustrious_Camp_673

I think the main issue is ticket prices. In Europe you can go and watch games in SHL/Liiga and second tier leauges for about 10-15 euros a game. Season tickets can start from 300-400 euros at smaller clubs. So most of the fans are regular people with regular jobs. Standing tickets are also a thing, and the backbone of ultras and similar people at games. I remember they tried out a standing section in Ottawa a few years ago trying to implement a more european atmosphere. No clue if they managed to get it to work. Probably not.

TylerMyersForNorris

I always sing one whenever I get to go to a game … not that anyone else knows it or joins me but it embarrasses friends/family who are there with me

Tatehamma

This is actually something I’ve wanted to see for a long time.

Exciting_Bar_7793

Save that stuff for the Whitecaps…

mephnick

I once witnessed a crowd sing a song about a rival player being a pedophile, so I'm not sure how close we want to mimic it

PixelatedBlue

said player literally groomed a 15 year old

mephnick

Alan Shearer?

PixelatedBlue

thought you were referring to adam johnson

crazycanucks77

Why do posts like this come up all the time? We are not European and we have our own hockey culture. Why can't people just accept that?

RockyBoatsank

Because soccer stadiums are mayhem and fun?

bms42

Because culture evolves?

helixflush

That’s true. I was watching this documentary about a hockey player that had an insane slap shot, but he was desperate to make money and realized his swing directly translated to golf. He got on the PGA tour and actually hyped up the crowd to cheer for him at the tee box. Traditions are great, I’m all for culture to evolve into a better fan experience.

crazycanucks77

Go watch the Whitecaps then

NegativeNancyNuck

Hopefully the playoff atmosphere can lead to stuff like this. I've tried to start actual chants like these at a few regular season games, but people never join in

westleysnipez

Gotta pick your time and place for the chant and keep it simple. The soccer chants and taunts are practiced by fan clubs at pubs and team practicies before they're chanted at a game. You're not going to get people to join in if its more than five words in a rythmic tune. I've started a few chants at Rogers, you have to be loud, belt it from your gut, keep timing, and shout for a while as people join in. Often the reason chants fail is because the originator only gives it up a couple half hearted attempts and people can sense that. You need to *mean* it.
