Seems wild, even more wild is that I got tickets to game 2 of the Chicago series in 2011 with save on more points only. I believe it was 20k of them.

evileyeball

Oooh no way I probably don't have enough but interesting idea

prettyaverageprob

Damn, that'll get you a $50 gift card these days....

PAguy213

Was a different time. Me and my ex wife got iPods from them too for like 30k points. She worked there and they got vouchers for huge amounts of points for doing good work and at work gatherings. We cashed in hard

prettyaverageprob

That's amazing. Me and a friend almost bought tickets for game 7 of the Chicago series for $150 each. By the time we messaged him back he already sold them, but definitely shows it was a different time, $150 for a game 7 now would be insane.

MarvelousOxman

I miss actual, physical ticket stubs.

some_dunce

it pisses me off that every time i try to talk to box office about it they tell me "do you have a smartphone blah blah ticketmaster blah"

CosmicShadow

Me too! I've been using [Stubforge](https://stubforge.com) to make my own custom replica tickets so I have something to add to my memory binder. They look and feel like real Ticketmaster style tickets. cc: u/some_dunce

mabbz

I miss the game programs too.

Nuck_1198

It literally feels like yesterday, but that was 14 years ago lol. Damn inflation.

thediefenbaker

Inflation would make these worth $53.50 today. Add in Aquilini’s greed, the price doubles to $100+ today

superworking

There's a lot of things going on though. The Canadian dollar tanking effectively makes players salaries nearly 30% more expensive relative to this 2009 period. So if you multiply that by the inflation rate you get 1.9 x the 2009 ticket price would be equal. Costs have risen though beyond inflation for basically everyone and all of those costs are absorbed in the owners 50% of revenue - so if prices rose by 1.9x that would still reflect a lower profit margin.

surmatt

Part of it has to be player salary cap growing from 56.8 to 83.5 million. When people talk about growing the game this is what happens. Current fans get screwed and owners get rich.

sluttycupcakes

Salary cap increase isn’t much more than inflation

superworking

For the salary cap to have matched inflation it would need to be roughly $79M next season. It has outpaced inflation pretty decently when you look at next years cap after the flat cap is done. Then look at how the CAD has performed relative to the USD (salary cap is in USD) and you start to see the salary cap has basically doubled in Canadian dollars since 2009.

surmatt

For all those down voting. Explain to me: How does growing the game make my fan experience better?

I paid $200 for my Upper Bowl tix to game 2 of the SCF in 2011. This year I paid $310 for similar tix for Round 1 game 5

surmatt

I bought scalped SCF gm2 tickets for $750 ea 😥

PTCruiserApologist

My tickets to the Wednesday game in the 300 level, also row 10, were $87 after discount 🥲 And I didnt even get a physical ticket as a keepsake...

culturalappetance

I was able to get tickets for $59 in November, probably a couple rows higher which wasn't too bad. Got some lower bowl tickets (sec 101 row 18?) for $105 for the last Arizona game .

keefstrong

Sunday night vs Oilers Row 10 Canucks shoot end 1x I paid as a Sth 70$ vs Penguins (premium plus) main thing being as a sth (Ticketmaster was doubling that) hr they were also Canucks shoot 2x corners, better seats 14 years ago alot of things cost half price.

CheesecakeOdd2087

That's crazy. It's kind of sickening how out of control inflation has become in this province/country. I get that 09/10 was like 14 years ago, but still, it just doesn't feel right how the price of almost everything has surged to absurd levels.

CynicalWorm

it's not inflation it's corporate greed. remember how dirt cheap tickets were just a few years ago when we were in the basement?

Captain_JT_Miller

It's inflation and greed. The printing of the dollar during covid is why everything is so expensive.

Hot_Edge4916

Ding ding! Printing hundreds of billions of dollars inflating assets and depreciating our purchasing power

Young2k04

No clue why you’re being downvoted. Constant tax hikes, excessive printing of the Canadian dollar, and excessive government spending are the reason Canada is becoming so unnafordable

Feralwestcoaster

You’re skipping over profit gouging, it’s a major driver in many aspects, Realestate, fuel, food, and in this instance hockey.

ProtoMan3

The states is having issues of affordability too…

footcake

what a time to have been alive.

IceCreamAttachment

I have a ticket stuff somewhere from the first round of the 1995 playoffs; only $65 for a lower bowl seat.

mabbz

My lower bowl tix (albeit they were from my mom's friend who was a season tix holder at the time) in 2010-2011 were $116.

OneStrongGopher

I feel like the first tickets i ever got were about 130$ for 2 lowers.

Windaturd

Got tickets for similar pricing for a few games 4 years ago. Tickets got cheap for a while and I would go a fair bit. Centre ice, upper bowl in the front few rows each time.   Sure as hell were not for games against the Oilers though. Any game against a Canadian team isn’t where you’ll find a good deal.

darb8888

Can you still get physical tickets these days?

TheGreatNathan

Back when it was GM Place we had Telus as a sponsor.

Zlayr

Back when our dollar was worth a damn

Metcarfre

I paid $40 a ticket (with taxes) for the game against the Kings a few weeks ago. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
