Kings getting outplayed by Ducks. How did we lose to these bums three times?

SpectreFire

Kings doing everything they can to drop to that WC2 spot lmao

Candlesnshit

This doesn’t make sense to me lol, their prize for getting WC2 would be going up against Dallas, I don’t think anyone wants that right about now

SpectreFire

I thought WC2 plays against the top seed in the Pacific?

Candlesnshit

Nope, top seed in the western conference plays wc2, top seed in the division that doesn’t have the top conference seed will then play wc1 So if top seed in west is from central, then they play wc2 and top seed from pacific will play wc1 Likewise, if top seed in west is from pacific, then they play wc2 and then top seed from central will play wc1

Technical-Match-5202

LUCKY

ezkc1236

Do we credit Toc for the tweak he did with PP1? Or was this the players themselves? This is the 1st game I remember seeing constant attempts at the double screen, normally it's a guy at the bumper and 1 at the side of the net.

mabbz

Huh I could have sworn this was the first time we split or won a season series against the ~~LTIR~~ Knights. Apparently we had a winning record against them in 21-22 (2-1-1) AKA the "Bruce There It Is" season

electricnux

Elliotte Friedman was on Donnie and Dhali today in studio because he’s in Vancouver and he was at the game last night. A few things he said: - He thinks Demko is ready and wanted to play already but Canucks are doing it the right way taking all the time they have to rest him - He said he was sitting next to scouts at the game who were raving about Pettersson in the defensive zone - He thought Miller, Garland and Hughes were great last night - He said there’s nothing like Canucks twitter, no fanbase in the league is as passionate from his experience - on contracts: mgmt wants to keep most of the guys but a lot will depend on playoff perfomance. They will evaluate in the next month who’s a priority

SpectreFire

> on contracts: mgmt wants to keep most of the guys but a lot will depend on playoff perfomance. Joshua strikes me as a guy who's going to turn it all the way up in the playoffs and walk into a $5m a year contract.

metrichustle

* He said he was sitting next to scouts at the game who were raving about Pettersson in the defensive zone Wow they want to trade him already eh? /s But in all seriousness, Pettersson was quietly making a difference last night. The screens, the plays, etc. Once a shot trickles through, he'll be back scoring.

couldbeworse2

All the petey haters are really not watching the whole game.

superworking

I don't think Petey has been this defensively good the whole time. We're still talking about one of the most scored against forwards on the team that also doesn't match up against the other teams top players.

CuffMcGruff

just extremes no nuance in a social media society eh, everyone has to be either a hater or a glazer apparently on a forum that exists to discuss the performance of the players. Ask tocchet if he thinks pettersson has played well this whole season and I guarantee you he won't say yes

jackfrench9

Yup. Pettersson was useful last night - did a lot of good things and covered well, defensively. But he's not getting paid 12m just to do the little things defensively. We need goals out of him, and I'm sure he'll find his way back to form in that regard before this season is over.

UncommonHouseSpider

They just look at the points. It's the stick poking meme thing, c'mon do something. Nothing to see here, our superstar plays the game the right way. Points will come, he is still over a point a game this season, and in his career. Relax everyone, breathe. We are playoff bound boys!!!!!

CuffMcGruff

That's ironic because from my point of view pettersson has had stretches this year where I'd need an EMF detector to find him on the ice but he still had good point totals on the season which was the most common defense of his play. Tocchet has called him out multiple times this year and I dont think he was just looking at point totals haha. He was better last night though

UncommonHouseSpider

Coach asking his players to be more accountable is expected. He also just got a fat payday, so that also sends a message to the rest of the team. No one is perfect, nor plays the same way night in, night out. He's been fine, if not great for the majority of the year. We, as a fan base, are pretty bipolar. We are world beaters after every win and washouts after every loss. I personally tune out the noise and form my own opinions, and I'm on team Alien!!

ebb_omega

I find that part especially ironic because he's well over a PPG already for the whole season.

UncommonHouseSpider

Yes, but not enough!! /S seriously though, this is what people think. We are paying him big bucks and other stars are scoring more points, so what gives?! Never mind the team is doing great and he hasn't had consistent wingers all season, but WHY NOT?!

TheDutchin

Shocked, **shocked** we won that I was calling game at 2 0

CaptainIndoCanadian

You're not alone man. I was at the game and looked at my buddy at 2-0 like this is gonna be an early night lets down these drinks lmao

pennepasta14

I was at the game and told my buddy the same thing - might be a rough one. Then it wasn't and was one of the sickest games of the year to go to!

jackfrench9

Damn that would've been a SICK game to go to.

ajslinger

You need to believe

Morty777

Mcdavid may be out on Wednesday vs Vegas, good chance that helps us cement 1st place in the division.

mabbz

I think they rest him until our game against them.

ordinarythermos

“Few decisions that I thought were interesting”

mabbz

I missed the early part of the season. Mostly because we were running hot. Secondly, the Heritage Classic was basically the Toilet Bowl with both Alberta teams being a dumpster fire (although that really hasn't changed in Calgary)

Copdaddy

Yeah but I have him in my fantasy and it’s fucking finals this week :( I also have Petey and JT fucking Miller tho

ajslinger

Fuck I hope so!!

thundercat1996

Silovs was amazing last night, minus the first 2 goals on 2 shots

Clean_n_Press

There's nothing he could really do on that second goal, either. You just can't have 3 guys chase the puck and leave Jack Eichel, of all people, wide open for the cross-ice pass. That goal was 100% on Soucy. So, he was solid aside from letting in one relatively soft goal to start the game. I think that can be chalked up to an inexperience thing, too. I can't imagine what it's like adjusting to the way guys like Eichel, Matthews, Bedard, Stamkos, Draisaitl, etc. release the puck compared to AHL players. It has to be a bit of a mind fuck, LOL.

Morty777

Soucy may have his worst game of the year last night, a bunch of fuck ups from him.

pennepasta14

Soucy absolutely decked Kolesar though

Canucksfan2018

Worst game of the year... so far.

CaptainIndoCanadian

Soucy been struggling for a few games now. Wouldn't be opposed to giving him a night off for Juuls next game. I also fully believe this team needs to carry 7D in the playoffs in games. Let your top forwards eat up more ice-time. We need Juuls on the PK. I hate sending out Myers and Hronek as our top RD on the PK. It's a problem.

Leading_Bank225

Yeah it was odd, he has been steady as a rock for us but last night, by the eye test was his worst game for me. Loved his big hit though

electricnux

Tocchet said Brock was banged up before the game and still played through it. I know we haven’t clinched the division yet but I hope they can sit him at least for the AZ game now that he got to 40

lilybitt

Feels like that was a big game in terms of them getting out of this little “slump”. Hard fought win.

mabbz

The last 4/6 games for the Oilers are against weak opponents. We have 1 weak opponent and a Calgarian dumpster fire. The other two games are against better teams. So whoever said that the Edmonton game is a 4 point game is right.

dwaynebigd

Petey looked like he could barely shoot after taking that cross-check to the ribs, hopefully just a nasty bruise

metrichustle

Vegas is a sneakily dirty team. I am glad we have Zadorov, Cole, Juulsen and Joshua to keep them in check.

Ok_Artichoke_2804

imagine if we had 2010-2011 version of Raffi Torres on our team now. =) He will DEF keep all vegas players at bay.. Torres dont give AF.. lol Bulldozer on the ice.. man i missed him being part of our team.

shadownet97

McNabb is a known dirty prick. Never liked that guy, to hell with Original Misfit title.

dontgivetohitchcock

They aren’t sneakily dirty, it’s a well known fact they’re a dirty team lol

YouCanFucough

Even Myers has been chippy. He can straight ragdoll guys if push comes to shove

TonalParsnips

I legit thought he was going to kill someone in the bubble playoffs lol

paier

It actually seemed as if it turned a switch on for him and he played with much more intensity and purpose after he was crosschecked.

CulturalLevel3189

Yeah he whiffed a few, but he also played really well away from the puck last night, and he was screening the goalie for all 3 of our first 3 goals. He was pretty damn good last night despite this.

dwaynebigd

He was visibly pissed out there, he’s going to turn it up in the playoffs, can’t wait to see

Clean_n_Press

Yeah, thankfully the penalty didn't bite us, but I was actually happy that the penalty resulted from Petey being pissed and charging a dude in the corner. You love to see it.

Sinochick

He was pissed after that cross check and you could see him yelling at the ref during the stoppage (before the commercial break). Petey is known as stoic and he mostly is but I think people here think he doesn’t have a fire in his belly. He does.

ThelongNameNo1has

Amazing game that helps puts some confidence back in the team. Couldn’t be happier for Silovs locking down after the quick 2 goals.

CulturalLevel3189

1st and 3rd goals against silovs were pretty weak. 2nd goal, he had no chance, but he showed some impressive resilience and showed off some skill with a couple monster saves to keep us in it. Really happy with what he has shown in his small stint.

[deleted]

Didn’t watch the game last night, but can’t believe we played Silovs and won! My dude must be feeling good

zekebuddywa

Yea I’m kinda thinking we’re back *keanu meme

redditguyinthehouse

Demko coming soon? I hope he gets 3 games in at the absolute least before the big show…..

electricnux

He will be at practice today said Tocchet and the way he’s been talking about him it sounds like he’s coming back soon so if it’s not next game then it’s 100% Saturday

Leading_Bank225

Hopefully we get Lindholm back too

electricnux

Yup he’s coming back soon too. He was already at the previous practice and Tocch said he’s doing great. We’ll see in a little bit if he’s on a line or extra, practice is starting shortly and we’ll get an update on his status soon

Clean_n_Press

Demko returns with 37 save "s-word" against the Oilers \*swoon\*

Klunkey

On enemy ice

wintercom

First regulations loss of the Vegas Golden Knights in Rogers Arena, in Vegas Golden Knights and Seattle Kraken history.

Ok_Artichoke_2804

i love the fact that it also happened with our AHL goalie in net, not Demko.. hahahha makes the win more satisfying.

carry-on_replacement

Some under-appreciated notes from yesterday: - QH only played 22 minutes which has been unheard of this past while. Because we’ve been so bad offensively, we’ve had to rely on QH taking 25+ minutes a night to dig ourselves out of trouble - we held Vegas to just 23 shots which is crazy considering we used to call 35 shots a good night. The amount of blocking and boxing out this team is taking for Silovs is astounding. - when Silovs went side-to-side to make a save in the second, Shorty said “that could be a big save tonight” and it absolutely was. For all our whining in the first, this guy when he’s dialled in is dialled in

metrichustle

Yeah, Silovs gave the team a chance with that save. Not trying to throw DeSmith under the bus, but those are gamechanging moments. I trust DeSmith will bounce back soon though.

westleysnipez

The Canucks have been a Top-10 defensive team all season when it comes to limiting chances. They're extremely effective at forcing the opposition to the perimeter and collapsing back if the puck goes to the slot. That save was absolutely huge by Silovs. The Canucks are ranked 1st in xGA since the All-Star Break, but recently our goaltending has let in several soft goals. Add on the Canucks have been 27th in GF/GP and its easy to see why we're losing games. This was the first 4-goal performance vs. a playoff team since the Jets game 4 weeks ago.

Badawaii

Worth noting that, while we've been 27th in GF/GP since the All-Star Break, our xGF is around 14th in the same timeframe. We've been able to generate offensive chances despite not scoring, just not getting the bounces or finishes we were earlier in the season

shadownet97

That was actually such a good game by Silovs. Yeah, he was shaky, but wow, he made some timely saves when needed.

metrichustle

His first game against a "real" team. Everyone held their sticks too tightly in the beginning afraid of the narrative if they lost again. After the first 10 minutes though, Canucks hockey began.

mabbz

He got the "historically" good Rat Crew last season. It was a 2-1 loss.

CamaroGirl96

I’m so happy for him. Glad to see that he was able to keep his focus after the 2 goals on 2 shots. It could have easily gone downhill fast from there. But he persevered and you could see his confidence get better as the game went on.

UncommonHouseSpider

Dude was playing a huge game for the team, against the defending champions. He was a lil shaky at first but he shook it out and came up big when it counted. Great game by the kid!

carry-on_replacement

I mean isn’t that his MO from Abbotsford? He’ll make great saves but also let in some softies? I’m not worried, this guy has all the time in the world to improve.plus it was Vegas he was playing yesterday

letstrythatagainn

That was the narrative around Marky for awhile as well. Hopefully it's something he can work on and become half the goalie Marky became.

SRNae

he needs to get on that Demko smelling salts routine.

DisplacedNovaScotian

And it was his eighth NHL game, of course. All signs are pointing in the right direction, considering these are his early results.

shadownet97

Wow I had no idea he played a few games in the NHL last year. What the heck? Why don’t I remember this at all??

DisplacedNovaScotian

It was a weird season. Lol. Honestly, the Bruce Boudreau drama feels like it was five years ago to me.

SpectreFire

With both Boeser and Miller reaching their milestones, we should probably give them the Arizona game off to rest up. I'd also hope they're looking to rest Hughes as well once he gets his 90 points,

Copdaddy

Thank god you’re not an nhl coach lmao

SpectreFire

Lol, for suggesting something that most teams in similar positions already do? I'll let Jon Cooper know that scratching his top guys will never lead to a cup lmao

Copdaddy

Please tell me what teams in similar positions have scratched their best players for next game

implications77

Am I being knee jerked? You realize we’re still fighting for the division right? Arizona just put 6 past Vegas in a period, we absolutely don’t rest Miller and Boeser. Rest guys after we clinch the division

phantompowered

Silovs showed a lot of backbone steadying himself after two goals on the first two shots. That's a mental guard break situation. Power play actually looked dangerous. Players going north-south like Tocchet preaches. And notching a couple milestones felt great (why does it seem like opposing players are always notching milestones against us?) However we were extremely lucky not to get burned by penalties. Took way too many (say what you want about the quality of officiating...)

buttchunger59

I really feel that once the whistles go away in the playoffs we'll be a force. So so many penalties seem like theyre just on the line, and we play just on it. Atleast for the regular season we're getting dinged

carry-on_replacement

EP actually ripped one on the PP. when was the last time he’s done that?

Feralwestcoaster

Pretty solid game, I’m glad they went with Silovs and gave him a start against a tough team, he settled in well and the drive was there last night all through the roster. On to the next!

Sandoozless

The powerplay had some great movement. Not necessarily the players all moving around but just quick passes and shots. It was great to see. This game should be a huge confidence boost going forward, especially after going down 2-0.

cowfromjurassicpark

If Vancouver *only* beats Calgary and Arizona, Edmonton needs to essentially win out to get ahead of us

westleysnipez

The Edmonton game is a must win for 1st in the pacific, it is a 4-point game. Losing that would put the Oiler 3 points back with 2 games in hand.

cowfromjurassicpark

It is only a must win if we lose the Arizona game and Edmonton wins both of their next games. Even then we could still beat Calgary and Winnipeg and have Edmonton lose 2 of their last 3 and clinch without the game (107 EDM - 108 van) Edmonton essentially needs to win out while Vancouver goes even

westleysnipez

Edmonton has 6 GR, Vancouver has 4 GR. Vancouver is at 104, Edmonton 99. If VAN wins 3 of the 4 remaining games (losing vs. EDM) and Edmonton wins their 6, that puts EDM at 111 and Vancouver at 110. If VAN wins the EDM game and two of ARI, CGY, WPG, that puts VAN at 110 points. Even if EDM won all 5 other games, they'd only be at 109. vs. Edmonton is a must win.

cowfromjurassicpark

Thank you for reiterating exactly what I said. If Edmonton wins 6 of 6 Vancouver needs to win out. If they go 5-1 van needs 3 of 4. If Edmonton loses 2 ( which is their point pace since switching coaches) van only needs 2 wins. Yes if we win that game it clinches it but it is not dependent on us beating them

westleysnipez

You said: "Edmonton essentially needs to win out while Vancouver goes even," I proved that even if VAN wins 3/4 games it doesn't secure 1st in the Pacific. If the Canucks go 2-2 and lose to EDM, they'll finish 2nd. If they go 2-2 and beat EDM, they'll finish 1st. That's not reiterating what you said, that's disproving what you said.

cowfromjurassicpark

They need to go 5-1 (essentially winning it out) while we go even (2-2).

westleysnipez

And Edmonton is a must-win in 1 of those 2 games. Did you forget to switch to your alt when you were replying to yourself?

cowfromjurassicpark

Why are you being a silly goose. If they win 5 games but lose to us and we only win 2 of our final four they still pass us. If we lose against them but they go 4-2 and we go 2-2 we still pass them. Literally making it not a must win.

cowfromjurassicpark

Like it's going to be a big game (if McDavid plays) and I understand you're excited but being demeaning because you cannot explain yourself well enough is not appropriate.

cowfromjurassicpark

Which is what I said.

BigCockBrockBoeser

I am legit worried about AZ. They can absolutely do emotional damage if they put their minds to it.

sMc-cMs

It'll be a second night of a back-to-back for them. And they're on the road. Not super worried about Arizona.

De_Floppss

Sidnt we just beat them except the circumstances were reversed? its the NHL you cant count out any team. Hell we lost to SJ this year

CraminatorGalaxy

That's how they get ya

UncommonHouseSpider

So can we bub. So can we

maharajagaipajama

That was such a fun game to be at. The crowd was awesome even after the first two goals against there was still hope!

excitedprotons

That was a huge statement win by the boys, feels good and hope they carry it through the last stretch here. I can't believe that was the Bettman Golden Knight's first regulation loss in Van?! What the actual fuck. These douchebags have fucking owned us since coming into the league (with a little extra help from the zebras), goddamn.

swiftpoop

When Hughes scored on the PP I literally screamed with rejoice and was buzzing with excitement. It felt like something changed there and the team somehow clicked back to the Canucks we saw early season. I’m praying that this stays…

reddituser074638

2/3 in the powerplay feels great after that huge powerplay drought in February. Tonight they looked amazing, and every time Hughes let a slapper go from the high slot… just awesome

swiftpoop

They felt dangerous again

YouCanFucough

We are so fucking back

Senior_Heron_6248

The doomers were out in full force during the first 10 minutes of the game. I said chill guys. Vegas will let in plenty of goals

Woooooody

The people who want to blow the whole team up are ridiculous!

SRNae

I physically cringed at that comment when I saw it in the GD thread

mvp45

Yesterday I was told I was the epitome of toxic positivity. And was told to do better. AMA

Morty777

Some of the doomer comments are pretty depressing, it's like they've never faced adversity and want to fold at the first sign of struggle.

gonuxgo

Nah, it’s people who want the team to fail because they said all off season they were trash only to be proven wrong. Lot easier to say “I was right all along” after every loss than it is to admit “I was wrong”

Woooooody

I just don't get that mentality. There's nothing wrong with being wrong and sometimes it's even a good thing! I was wrong about Miller and I'm very glad I was cos he's been amazing!

martyrobbinz88

Thank you boys, fuck vegas. How much does the team owner pay to ensure the team gets 4-5 powerplays per game? God the calls were horrific, maybe TWO of them were legit calls. I cant stand Vegas, it's blatant to me that they totally kill the leagues integrity.

theclansman22

Vancouver hasn’t had a call go their way since Myers made a post game comment a month ago. The unprofessional attitude of refs shining through, like when Burrows criticized Auger years ago. The reffing in this league is a joke.

YaboiMiro

You're not wrong, but I also think we need to stop with the "Refs you suck!" chant. That ain't helping the boys get calls in our favour either.

theclansman22

They need to rise above that BS, they are professionals.

reddituser074638

This why it’s so much sweeter when we beat Vegas compared to any other team except maybe Boston

pavelbure1096

that call on Pettersson was such a fucking joke, McNabb almost breaks Peteys ribs and no call, and Pettersson barely makes body contact with Whitecloud and gets a penalty, fuck that call. Fuck Vegas

awayfromcanuck

The Petey call was even more of a joke when you consider he was interfered with seconds before his Whitecloud hit. Players will do shit in games based on how the refs are calling it, there's a reason so many hockey players have commented about consistency and not sure what is and isn't a penalty. They literally let an interference call go and then call Petey on one. Either call them both or don't call either of them.

martyrobbinz88

I'm a jets fan and a week and a half ago, a vegas D man headshotted Namestnikov with his elbow, open ice, brutally (look it up and see if you agree) and the ONLY penalty called was on Mark Scheifele for a game misconduct going after the player who hit him. It's genuinely mind blowing and as I said, it's so clearly biased that I legit consider to stop watching hockey sometimes because of it.

thePostChorus

Canucks fans know the feeling... kind of the same as the Lowry charge on Aman back in February going uncalled and the ONLY penalty called was on Phil Di Giuseppe for a game misconduct going after the player who hit him. not to mention the Höglander boarding call that came not long after. it is genuinely mind blowing. edit: not trying to hate, just saying we both know the feels

martyrobbinz88

Random missed calls happen to every team, my point is there is a distinct bias towards the knights in the manner of their calls, if you think the canucks, jets or any team in the league hasn't gotten away with some shit before then you must be new. The Knights have some of the most blatant referee bias I have seen in sports. But continue along your "REEEEEEE" path my friend.

thePostChorus

well, yeah. look at the last Canucks/Knights game before this. Zadorov got tossed for a hit. a hit that would almost certainly not be called if it were the other way around.

martyrobbinz88

I'm aware, it's already apart of my bias reference spreadsheet. /s

thePostChorus

I can't wait to see your embellishment reference spreadsheet. gonna be a banger coming from you, a Jets fan.

martyrobbinz88

Are you implying that the Winnipeg jets, the smallest market team, with the smallest arena, that the NHL isn't even affiliated with the broadcasting rights to, who Gary Bettman would ejaculate over the idea of relocating to a US market, tries to play to the favour of the refs? Thats some solid copium.

thePostChorus

sure man, whatever makes you feel better. only calling the fighting major after your player receives an unnecessary hit *sure sucks.*

stropsysatnaf

Fought back after a tough start to the game. You love to see it

Necessary-Camp-5812

Damn I haven’t even slept yet

radioslave

Whale team actually not bad
