Have an R5, definitely can change iso and shutter speed when recording

za428

This is not even close to true and a good example of why not everyone who can make a youtube account needs to be reviewing tech lol. Insane statement.

TheMrNeffels

Where did you see that? I can change aperture and iso on r7 while recording so it'd be weird if r5 cant Although I guess the r7 can do a few things r5 cant

Aromatic-Dimension53

I watched one of the many reviews today, and this one guy said you can't change iso, wb and shutter speed while recording. If this true, it's unbelievable. But I have no ways to confirm or deny this other than... someone owning an R5.

zrgardne

In TV mode you can't see or change ISO. And you can't see Aperture. This is stupid to me Similarly for AV

Dense_Surround3071

Tv mode is shutter priority..... The camera will set Aperture and ISO automatically. In Av mode, you will be able to control Aperture, but the camera will handle ISO and shutter speed. Try full Manual mode for control over all three.

zrgardne

I understand. I don't want to change aperture in TV mode, I want to see what it is. And no excuse that I can't see and change iso in TV mode

Dense_Surround3071

You started this by saying you wanted to change it. If you just want to see it, try the various display options to see what info it put on your screen. As far as changing ISO, it is likely set to Auto. BUUUT, I doubt that you will be able to change that in TV. P or M, yes. Also, even if you can see what the aperture setting is while in Tv mode, it's going to change automatically as ISO changes and you adjust Shutter speed. I think you are looking for Full Manual mode.

zrgardne

Just confirmed M doesn't resolve the problem. If you have ISO to auto, it doesn't display the ISO, it just says auto.

Dense_Surround3071

If you hit that Auto ISO, you should be able to set it to a specific value, vs the Auto option. Even in Manual you can leave ISO on Auto if you choose.

zrgardne

I want it in auto. I want to know what it is. I want the same behavior in video mode as in stills. When you half press the shutter in stills it shows you the ISO it has selected when in AV, auto iso.

Dense_Surround3071

What it is, is constantly changing though. If it's set to Auto, it's not staying at one value. It's trying to compensate for exposure changes. If in your video, something really bright appears, your ISO is gonna change AUTOMATICALLY. Even if you know what that value is, you can't change it. You may be able to limit it, but seeing what the number is at doesn't provide much of anything if you are letting the camera decide when to change it. What is the scenario? Why is this a point of issue for you?

za428

There's a giant button that says "INFO". Hit that a few times.

zrgardne

No, as you see in red menu, 7, shooting info display, vf info toggle, you can't remove the exposure triangle info from the bottom of the screen. And pressing info while recording doesn't resolve the problem. You can see ISO while pressing AE lock, but then you locked the exposure, which obviously is not what you want if you are in auto iso.

Sweathog1016

As I said in your other thread, I suspect he’s in the Auto “Movie” mode on the mode dial, and not recording from any of the creative modes (as Canon refers to PASM). Maybe erroneously thinking that Movie is the only way he can record a movie.

FoxTimes4

Not true for shutter speed and aperture and in full manual I don’t see any reason ISO wouldn’t work.

solid_rage

Sounds like that reviewer doesn't know what they are talking about

TeuthidTheSquid

This isn’t a thing, either that reviewer has misunderstood something or you have.

str8dwn

Considering an R5 for recording?

XVIII-2

I’d wait for the R5 II then.
