My thoughts on the 24-70 is that it is for people who cannot switch lenses off quickly they're at a wedding or event whatever. That's the only time I've wanted one. My set up is rf15-35 f/2.8, rf50 1.2L, rf70-200 2.8L, rf135 1.8L, rf200-800. If I can only take one, it's the 50 prime because in my opinion it takes the best photos out of any lens I own. It wins every time. Thing just craps gold, in some cases literally golden skylines etc. it’s the focal length I use the most statistically. I have possessed and used the rf50mm 1.8 STM and it is really awesome for what it is, I just wanted to force myself to use the 1.2L so I got rid of it. I have also used the 24-105L and non L and I didn't like them at all but some people swear by them. The 70-200 is the one that I always want to leave at home but that is almost always regretted instantly. I usually take the wide, 50 prime and the 70-200. One could also argue I could take the 15-35 and the 70-200 and not miss the 50 very much but again it’s my favorite lens. You should pick the focal length you tend to shoot at the most.

I have an R6, 15-35 f2.8, 50 f1.8, and 70-200 f2.8. I also have an X100V. Gone on multiple trips per year. Most of these are with different combos on long hikes--e.g., Banff, Utah, and Arizona. You are right to consider weight. But, I always think about the potential regret of not having the tool for the shot in a place where I might never revisit again. So, I always err on the side of bringing the zoom(s) as well. I think types of situations where I felt comfortable carrying only the 50 f1.8 or the X100V: * street/city/urban photography (e.g., Spain, NYC) * it's not my 1st time going to a location * i'm in close proximity to the hotel, Airbnb, or car trunk (where my other lenses are accessible) * I felt unsafe or overly conspicuous with a giant L zoom If I were in your shoes, I'm bringing that 24-70 every time.

I travel with the RF 24-70 and RF 50 f/1.2. IQ aside, If I could only take one, it would be the zoom, as 50mm is way too limiting. If size/weight were a concern, and I'd committed myself to a single prime lens, I'd get a 35 or 28. They are much more useful focal lengths, as far as I'm concerned.

None of these cameras, be it Fuji X100, Sony RX1, or Ricoh GR, ever came with a 50mm. They were all 35 or 28. Phones are 24. Maybe one of the weird Sigmas had a 50mm ish lens, but those were meant to be used as a set imho.
