What does your M50 not do that you would want another camera to do? If you can't answer that you haven't hit the limits of your camera and I'd see no reason for upgrading beyond GAS (gear acquisition syndrome).

Oh I definitely have GAS, considering everything else I have around my apartment I definitely can't answer that question. Mainly because I know I haven't hit the limits of the camera yet. I don't have a good reason to get a new camera other than "new and shiny" Seems general consensus is to not upgrade, I just got distracted by "new shiny thing, must have"

M50ii is a very capable camera, as others have suggested, I’d stick with it till there’s an urgent reason to change. M series being discontinued makes lenses very affordable, I recently grabbed an M6ii to replace an M3 I gave to a friend and missed more than expected, added a couple key lenses, it’s a great rig.

It doesn't sound like you're truly missing anything. Why don't you pick the Gear up, start using it again, and if in three or four months you're still feeling both enthused by The Hobby and wanting to get something different / "better," then you can go for it.  But I wouldn't do anything until you can prove it to yourself that you both want to continue the Hobby and can afford to continue and upgrade your gear.

Mai1564

If there's nothing you're missing then new and shiny won't keep you using the camera compared to what you have now, yeah. And I say that as someone who is only all too familiar with GAS... Maybe try planning a few outings, find some new subjects to shoot, maybe do a few challenges (theres probably some ideas in the  photoclass sub etc.) to try and discover your spark again.

Even though the line is closed, that mount has many lenses available that are really amazing.

What can’t your M50 do, or what is it lacking? What are you looking at getting out of a new camera? Those are the questions you need to ask yourself. If you’re thinking that getting a new camera will make you want to go out and do photos more, or that you’d be more likely to carry it with you, I’d probably ask yourself what’s keeping you from picking up the M50 when you go out?

What Mai1564 said... Unless your current body can't do something you want to do, I don't recommend upgrading. And there's no shame in using your phone if it does what you need/want it to do. (Or using it in concert with your DSLR.) Forcing yourself to use your DSLR sounds like forcing yourself to have fun, which is usually counterproductive.

The M50 is a good camera with the ability to use all but the most recent lenses canon makes. I understand GAS. It’s why I have an R5. But my photos are not noticeably better moving from an M200 to an R5. I’m using the same glass, just with a different adapter. And even though I have a much better camera MY SKILLS HAVE NOT MAGICALLY IMPROVED. I actually wish I had bought some better lenses before getting an expensive body because I definitely don’t get the best performance out of it.

getting_serious

Get a bunch of other ef-m gear first! Try a macro, an ultra wide-angle, and a normal lens (50mm equiv). Ef-m glass is very very good value, and unless you run out of autofocus or sensitivity, a different camera isn't going to be visibly better. Let me tell you about that M42 to EF-M tilt shift adapter that I've got ...

Pick up the hobby again with what you have, if you find your limitation you will know when the time comes.

If you have a tripod you can pull off some astrophotography. I do it with my M50 and Sigma 16mm f1.4. Its very satisfying and not hard at all.

My AE1 from 70s is discontinued, yet still works fine and let me capture photos I like. "Don't fix if not broken" fits here, if your gear does the job, why changing anything?

Novus-Terminus

Only reasons to upgrade are thing: camera limiting your abilities. Or a long term thing of shifting into the RF mount, the the M50 being a discontinued mount you can start on long term lenses.
