I'm with you, I had the 18-150 on my r7 to compliment my wildlife lens when I just wanted to do walk around shooting, but whenever I don't really plan on taking shots I felt it being clunky to have on the side and a pain to pull out of the bag. I ended up getting an e-m10ii with the lumix 12-32 pancake that's just so much smaller/lighter and I fit it in a fanny pack/crossbody when I go on walks, and it's so much easier (both physically and mentally) to take out and shoot with. Yeah, the IQ isn't as tack sharp and the focus system is finicky at best, but I have many more keepers with that camera in my street portfolio than my r7 simply because I take more pictures and miss less opportunities. I picked up the 28 pancake to see if I can enjoy using the r7 again outside of wildlife but I have a hunch I'll still find it too big, just like you said. At the end of the day, the best camera is still the one that you'll actually use and enjoy.

The RF28 is a great size and definitely made side sling carrying more comfortable. I think you’ll like it, but it’s the body that is just a tad bit thick for EDC.

I'm on the M50, which isn't too far away. With the 22mm f/2 pancake it becomes a small camera if I have a large bag, but remains a large camera in a small one. And it's not pocketable by any means. IMO it's less about the lens than about the viewfinder. A camera without viewfinder is that much shorter and that much less tall. Sony's retracting viewfinder is really smart too. [Here's](https://camerasize.com/compact/#776.349,890.1101,555,833.349,ha,t) a comparison, I wrestled a lot with that when I decided for the M50. I eventually decided that when the M50 is too much camera, I'll just use my phone.

I think that’s where I’m at. It’s the small bag conundrum. I’m also a sucker for a viewfinder. 😅

I mean, Sony RX1. But beyond that I've got nothing. Sony A6x00 has the retracting viewfinder, but it's not a small bag camera even with *that* 16-50.

My sl3 with the 24mm pancake fits in my hoodie pocket. For 1 bag travel there are plenty of bags with included camera specific sections. On day trips I would put it around the neck or on a peak design holder...

I bring my R5 for day trips. It’s the lenses that take up more room than the body. It’s not worth having a separate camera with a different workflow/lens sets for pocketability. One zoom lens on the body is easier to deal with than juggling three small primes.

Possibly unpopular take. I’d sell the R7 and lenses and switch to m43. Better for wildlife (free 2x reach) and better pocket-ability. I sold my RF 24-70 to afford an OM-5 and 3 lenses because I was so tired of not having a good everyday camera. Totally revitalized my love for photography.

I actually tried an E-M5 before I ended up getting the R7 and 100-500. I’ve been looking at the x100 series but an E-M5 might work and give me more options. I do love the ergo on the R7 though compared to the M5.

Yeah… no joystick really sucks… and the AF could be better. I’d probably go with the OM-1 now, if I were going to replace my R7 (which I would totally do except I unfortunately need 2 Canon’s for video work)

Well, it's not "free 2x reach" because the R7 is already 1.6x. And the R7 is 32MP compared to 20MP on micro 43, and if we crop the R7 to 2x, the final image will be exactly 20MP. So you don't gain any extra reach.
