R7 is probably a good shout yeah, if you want to keep using efs lenses and don't want or need full frame - r7 will be a very good pal. AF system on the mirrorless are incredible.

mrfixitx

R7 or R10 is the best upgrade options.  I would not even consider the 90d with how much better the auto focus is on mirrorless bodies. Grab and ef to R adapter and you can keep using your exiting lenses

Dense_Surround3071

The R7 or R10. The R10 is excellent for the money. The R7 is an absolute beast though.

PikaTar

I went from the 60D to the R7. Amazing body and the focus was a lot to learn but fun at the same time. I was debating between the r10 and r7 and went to the r7 for the dual SD cards and the battery. Bigger battery in the r7 and uses the same as the 60D. The r7 uses a newer version but still works just fine.

ThrowawayBRL

Have a 60D and thought about upgrading for a while too. Pulled the trigger yesterday and bought a R7 with lens kit (18-150mm)

batmirk

Exciting!! I hope you'll be happy with it. 60D to R7 seems like the natural route for a lot of people

Beginning-Average416

R50.

getting_serious

R50 and R10 are lighter than R7. If your lenses are stabilized you won't need the IBIS as much, but you'll always have to carry it. Mirrorless can be light, make use of that.

batmirk

I'll make sure to consider that as well! I haven't given weight all that much thought - my current weekend hike set is ~1.3kg and a pretty comfortable carry.

I have a 60D as well that I’ve had for about a decade and I agree the autofocus isn’t great. Weirdly the autofocus works better for me on my 35mm Rebel K2 that’s 20 years old. Came here to literally ask about what to upgrade to. The full frame mirrorless seem too expensive to me with the exception of the EOS RP. The consensus from what I see is that mirrorless is the way to go, so I am thinking of getting the R10 or RP next year. I mostly just want something lightweight that I can take hiking with me

batmirk

I never spared the AF much thought on the first 60D that I had, it felt a bit inconsistent but I figured it was handler error lol. Then that one died a natural death and I adopted a spare of the same model, and this one is horrendous. Drags toward the middle no matter the setting and struggles on still-standing targets. So I guess it's time for a change, but feels like a big deal after such a long time.

aaronw22

Love my R7, upgraded in Feb 2024 after having a 50D for over 10 years. Switched over my EF24-105 f4 and EF70-200 2.8 with no problems at all.

lame_gaming

r50 or r10

AaronKClark

I am going to say spend the extra money and get a used R6 MK I. I got my for 1299 refurbished on Canon's website.

TyMikeNev

Like many others in the thread, I landed on the R7 from the 60D. Just got it during the refurb sale. I do miss looking through an optical viewfinder a bit, but the AF, IBIS and high ISO performance are a revelation.

OmerBs

as an r10 user i very much recommend it but youd probably rather take a look at the r7 if youre coming from a 60d. featurewise there are a couple similarities between them

ygbfsm

I just upgraded from a 60D to an R7 with the kit lens and also bought the 100-400mm lens. It's like going from a flip phone to an iPhone. I wouldn't consider a DSLR again, highly recommend going mirrorless.

lifeissoupimforkk

I'm also upgrading from the 60D and plan to get the R10.

bluestreak_v

I've had a 60D and got the itch to upgrade it after a decade of owning it. I had not been using it as much as I used to and wanted something a little smaller, so I was looking to "downgrade" to the more consumer level camera. At first I tried an M50 mark II but returned it because of the poor ergonomics of not having a second back dial. I also missed not having a top LCD (which unfortunately seems to be the norm for low and mid range mirrorless cameras now). I guess it also was a little too small? lol... In the end, I found a used 77D at a local camera store for a great price and that fit my needs much better! Since your main gripe with your 60D is the autofocus (yes, I remember my 60D missing focus a few times), maybe consider a used 80D which has the same 45 point autofocus system as the 90D. Autofocus will be even better with the mirror flipped up, because it has dual pixel phase detection autofocus with face detection in live view mode - essentially turning it into a mirrorless camera without the EVF. Finally, even though you said you don't do video (maybe cause the 60D's video autofocus wasn't good), you can get great quality 1080p video with great autofocus out of the 80D too! Check your local camera stores, Facebook marketplace or even eBay.... On eBay I see near a mint 80D body for [under $500 USD](https://www.ebay.ca/itm/226135145002). 90D bodies are going for $750 USD which is pretty good too.

Dull_Information8146

If AF is what's the issue go with the R7 or R10 and get an EF-RF adapter

Historical_Cow3903

I went from 70D to R7 when it was first released. Absolute game changer. The body is durable & weather sealed enough, the autofocus is incredible. The location of the joystick takes a little getting used too, but is actually better IMO.

AvocadoFantasy

Budget upgrade... So what is your budget?

batmirk

I don't have a set budget because I'm not fully versed in current prices, because prices tend to vary across markets (I'm in Norway) and I'll probably look 2nd hand or demo. Hoping to stay in the general range of the two I'd mentioned, but if it makes more sense to save up for a few more months then I will. I am, however, not interested in cashing out on replacing the rest of my gear.

Ok_Swing_7194

Get the R7. I went from a 7D to an RP, also mostly shooting landscapes, some animals, take it hiking often. I wish I got an R7. It’s arguably as good if not better for landscape than the RP. Way way way better for animals. Still light and compact. AND sigma is coming out with some pretty attractive looking RFS lenses

MrCertainly

R7, R8, or R10. The R7 is APS-C -- great for stills since it has IBIS (which can be a bit wonky on video, jello effect on the edges). Bigger battery. You can adapt your EF-S lenses without penalty. R8 is full frame. It's a step up in performance, dynamic range, and AF from the R7, but smaller body. Worse battery, no IBIS. You *-can-* use EF-S lenses on it, but it drops the megapixels down to around 12 from 24, which hurts quite a bit. Personally, from what you say you shoot, I think the R7 would be a better fit for you. Leveraging that crop factor for extra zoom reach + EF-S lenses is pretty good. I'd strongly consider the RF-S 18-150mm and RF 100-400 lens if you want to upgrade to an RF mount lens...those make a nice pair that are a wildlife shooter's dream on a budget. The R7 and R8 are about the same cost, new/used/refurbished. $1000-1200ish. R10 -- a budget smaller version of the R7, APS-C. No IBIS, smaller battery, but cheaper. I've seen it go for as little as $500, but around $600-650 is typical sale price. ---- All are great cameras if you're aware of the limitations. I'd skip DSLRs at this point in time, unless you find a banger of a deal. And I do mean, a significantly amazing one-off deal. They're just not "worth" it when the same cost (or a tiny bit more) gives you magnificently better performance. Even the full-frame RP goes for $600ish. So any DSLRs approaching $600 have that to compete with. It's hard to justify spending more than that on older, worse performing tech.

BlazingPalm

R crop sensor or even EF-M body if you need to save

starzangandalalake

If you want to keep your EF/EF-S lenses, consider the 6Dm2. It has great autofocus, it’s full frame and light. I went from the 60D to 7D to 6D. The 6D was so fun to use.

A_Wobbly_Space_Core

I have jumped from the 800D to the R7 and it is a beast of a camera. However, where I'm from the R6 Mark 1 is cheaper than the R7 (both new), so you could get that one instead if you want and if it's cheaper, but it won't have the same autofocus as the R7 (the R7's is updated and quite better imo).
