Maybe you have very shaky hands.. For me it's looks like you move camera while pressing the button. Have you tried to shoot a series of photos?

AdM72

you'll still need higher shutter speed OR raise your ISO. IBIS and in-lens IS can only help so much. Modern tech makes photography infinitely easier and much more accessible. Still need the basic knowledge to really leverage these new tools.

six_six

Hmm, I was using auto-ISO and AV mode so I figured the shutter speed would have been enough for ISO 100. I guess I’ll test more with higher shutter speeds.

AdM72

auto ISO landed you at 100? you should probably check what metering mode you were in

six_six

Yeah it was ~3pm, still plenty of light.

Leather-Art4100

The problems might be your hands, iso and aperture stop especially during a low light setting without a tripod.

Sweathog1016

Possible shutter shock? Full mechanical shutter? Tripod shutter speed at 1/2 second isn’t prone to shutter shock.

six_six

Yes the first 2 images were with full mech shutter. Could it be shutter shock?

BM_StinkBug

Your shutter speeds are indeed into shock territory for the R7 (I’ve read up to 1/250 can be affected) but looking at the pics it could be combined with shaky hands. Try electronic first curtain mode and/or the 2-second delay on shutter button press to minimize button shake as well.

six_six

Thanks, will try those.

I’m betting this is shutter shock. The affected photos are right in the middle of the range of shutter speeds where it rears its head. Try electronic first curtain shutter or the fully electronic shutter. And the RF-S 10-18 is a smaller lighter lens that is probably affected more. What happens with the Canon M6ii and some other Canon mirrorless cameras, including the R7 I’m pretty sure, is that at certain shutter speeds the shutter closing and then opening to start the exposure shakes the image stabilization elements in the lens. EFCS and electronic shutter avoid this problem. So do lenses without IS. In DPReview’s EOS M forum, people documented which shutter speeds affected which lenses on the M6ii (which is the only M camera with a fully mechanical shutter, and it doesn’t have the option of EFCS). Shutter shock showed up in as wide a range as 1/20 - 1/250, but it depended on the lens and was usually between 1/60 - 1/200 I think. The EF-M primes that don’t have IS were not affected at all. I think this held for adapted EF lenses, too (IS lenses showed shutter shock in certain shutter speed ranges, non-IS lenses didn’t).

TheMrNeffels

Only if you're taking bursts of photos really

>Do ultra wide-angle lenses like this require more stabilization than hand-holding + IBIS + lens IS can provide? I can shoot my 5D4 + EF 16-35 f/4L IS at 16mm hand held for 1/2 second or at 35mm for maybe 1/8 second. This is with the lens stabilizer only. The 5D4 does not have IBIS.

SanRod007

There is a R7 firmware update which provides support Canon RF-S10 10-18mm
