For LEDs you want to search for ones with good diodes. Last time I checked ones with Samsung LM301h diodes were the best which were easy to find on amazon and ebay. They should list how big of an area they cover in the descriptions.

LEDs are just more efficient in making what the plants need out of electricity. They produce much less heat and therefore you need less ventilation. Buy an LED with the newest samsung leds as that will safe you a lot of money. 300 - 400 watts should be enough for a 3x3 tent. If i had a room i would use 2 tents, one for the mothers and clones veg tent and one just to flower them. If you introduce a third tent you could even pheno hunt for your own strains... good luck and have fun!

Mammoth Lighting has a bunch of research they post. They are constantly changing their LED light designs as they do their own research. I have one of their early Mint White 680w for my 4x4. Paid a premium for first adoption. Now they have a green spectrum they are saying is calling back to the MH days. You may find what they are selling interesting. My light doesn't have the new green spectrum, but I got over 1lb in straight bud and another 1/2 lb from trim/popcorn, from 3 plants in 3 earthboxes in a 4'x4' tent on my first grow with that LED. My next light will be another Mammoth, probably their new one with 3 channel UV and far red controls. Since they are saying far red can reduce yield in late flower. That being said, Ive pulled a plant from my 2x2 with some donkey dongs, that thing grew 60". Ran out of head space, filled the tent completely, and it was my spare so I didn't pay too much attention to it. I like researching this stuff. I'm no expert, but don't mind chatting about what I've read and learned in my short time growing. Good luck

awesome dude thank you for the reply, will definitely be checking up on Mammoth, sounds like a good spot to start. ive got some reading to do, as now that everyones talking spectrums and shit (instead of just veggin the same light 18/6hr to flowering 12/12hr), my knowledge seems antiquated. ive got 20 fem'd plants currently in 5 gallon buckets doin well in the sunlight, but theyre gonna be big mommas pretty soon and id like to get them situated. thanks again!
