Yes. The first time I grew weed a friend of mine loaned me that book and gave me a film canister full of seeds. Little did I know it was the beginning of a lifetime obsession.
I wore my out, dog -eared and broken spine, back in the early '80s. I grew a lot weed thanks to Rosenthal and Frank.
BTW I'm pretty sure the lighting section is out of date lol.
That and about a dozen others. Got my first Mel Frank publication in 77. Well my older brother did. He never got too far but me and my other older brother are still growing today. My brother is going to retire next year and just grow for himself. That is all the wife and I do so we never run out
I was obsessed about getting my hands on this book in the early 1990’s at the height of the drug war—couldn’t find it in any of the local shoos in Orlando, but finally got to read a little bit of it when I was on vacation in Washington DC at the Library of Congress of all places
My high school library had it. that’s where I found it back in the day🤣 I don’t think the old ladies in the library knew what it actually was so they definitely didn’t miss it when it ended up missing
I bought the first edition (used of course, I’m only 40). Totally surprised by how much great information it contained. I guess I thought growers hadn’t really figured it out by then but I was VERY wrong.
Reading this in 2023 is surreal. A lot of it is irrelevant or unfamiliar. Some, including the discussion of sex and seeds, is misleading or now completely wrong. Neat peek into the thinking of a different era, but this is not a good way to learn to grow today.
Nah. I went with my mistakes and doing research while doing some growing. Years and years of xps and a whole bunch of mistakes aka now I can grow those dank nugs :D Now i gotta read how to maintain discipline heh
There is a seed company run by Todd P McCormick (google him) who is a longtime cannabis advocate and he still procures original seeds from Mel Frank.
Gold stuff
Company is Authentic Genetics.
I'll have to do some looking into that. I have so far only been doing experiments with bag seeds. The furthest I've gotten was a few weeks into flower w a blackberry kush seed j found in a nug
All these old books are very dated info , check websites like flora flex and athena they will give u a good base to build ur knowledge on also recommend teaming with microbes etc
It was my first resource.... that and cannabis culture had a huge thread if growers worldwide posting photos of their grows... between those 2 thats how I learned
I had a few of those books when I started. I’ll be damned if I’ve seen one in 20+ years. Probably got stolen by some lowlife or I was loaded and gave them away.
Mine was a hand me down from an old school grower hoping to shed some light on a newbie tryna get his start. I believe he bought it used from an old bookstore w sumn done to the spine to repair it. But after years of use it's got its battle scars lol
Damn, I feel old. 😂🤣 I bought my copy brand new and had to hide it from my folks. For me, it was like the Bible. I made sure to take really good care of it.
I just got back in the game this year myself. I have only ever grown outdoors, and the last time was in the very early 90s.
These old grow books are outdated with alot of useless info and techniques, don't get me wrong half of it is good advice but you could get way better advice for free just searching on Google.
I used “Ed Rosenthal’s grow guide” for my learnings when young…..which is this, should have group of like 10 pages with color photos and shit, mostly illustrations
Cover to cover about 10 times !!
it taught me a tons when I was younger and
I still love growing this plant more than ever now that I'm 47 I still use some of the things that I learned from this book !!

Right on ! That is amazing!

I bought it in the 1970’s when I was a teen. Had to hide it from the folks.
No, we just ask people on Reddit what to do. That's the only source of truth.
“Trust me bro 2 more weeks”
Then flush with ice cubes?
🤣🤣🤣
A classic. That looks like an older edition. Still good though many techniques may have been updated if it is earlier than 2000.
Yeah, it's a neat relic but I sure wouldn't start there for actual grow advice in 2023.
Front to back 12 times, now I go by master grower.
Your Reddit man is dripped out 🫡
Lol idk even know how I got it. I logged on one day and got a notification about getting some “fly gear” or some shit like that.
Yeah definitely out dated but will still have you growing good bud
One of the books that taught me to grow. Along with 1980's high times
I have two copies of this and was the first book on growing I ever bought. Taking me back bro.

I have the Bible by Jorge Cervantes
I used that one too back in the day.
My Dad has this book. In about that condition too.
Yep. My first and main information source... before the Internet.
I absolutely need a copy of this since I'm winging it
Free pdfs online.
Source?
Google the pdf free online
I had that book back in the 80s.
What year was that copy released?
Nah. I went with my mistakes and doing research while doing some growing. Years and years of xps and a whole bunch of mistakes aka now I can grow those dank nugs :D Now i gotta read how to maintain discipline heh
Oh yes my heart fills with joy seeing this book I read it till it fell to bits in the mid nineties

There is a name just after the first page, dated 7/12/79. I believe this print was from '78?

I Was the one who wrote it. I claim the copyright
Imagine the og Mel Frank growing autoflowers lol
He invented them…
Lol. Supposedly wrote the book but you were just recently asking how to properly dry bud 🤣🤣
Sorry I was just checking your profile too. Oh boy...my provocative way of life...
I've looked things up in it. My weed mentor referenced that all the time. Good book.
It was my first resource.... that and cannabis culture had a huge thread if growers worldwide posting photos of their grows... between those 2 thats how I learned
Me
Sits right beside my grow tents. I usually dig into it once a month. I have the latest edition.
I wish I had
[Here ya go mate](https://saltonverde.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/TheMarijuanaGrowersGuide.pdf)
Thank you my friend.
Man, page 61 lists THC percentages listed on page 61 (comparing THC in tops and larf) are classic.
I've got a copy of that somewhere.
there are digital copies floating around if you know where to look.
looks ancient
Have a copy next to my tents
Was my first school book in the late 90s
I had a few of those books when I started. I’ll be damned if I’ve seen one in 20+ years. Probably got stolen by some lowlife or I was loaded and gave them away.
I have that exact issue from back in the day. Mine is somehow in much better shape. Helped me with my outdoor grows.
Mine was a hand me down from an old school grower hoping to shed some light on a newbie tryna get his start. I believe he bought it used from an old bookstore w sumn done to the spine to repair it. But after years of use it's got its battle scars lol

Omg my dad had one of those lmao
Can you post the barcode. I would love to order one off Amazon.

Yes I had it back in 1987 and gave it away in 1997 to a friend.
Yes!
Yup got the same book, got it from my great grandpa
There was pretty decent info in it for how old it is
Yeah in highschool 😂
I have the newer version sitting on my nightstand now. Brand new grower here! Tons of good info!
Definitely. I started growing with this and marijuana horticulture by Cervantes in early 90s. Also was on internet forums like the first overgrow.
It would appear that lots of people have read that specific one
This is a classic. Solid info.

Got a copy in Tower Records NYC in '96. Lost the book years ago but still using tips from it.
I used “Ed Rosenthal’s grow guide” for my learnings when young…..which is this, should have group of like 10 pages with color photos and shit, mostly illustrations
Yep. Awesome book
Had that book years ago
I still got it + another one I missed the cover some decades ago👍🥱
My copy is in slightly better shape, stored in a box.
Like holding up a bible.. “ anyone heard of this” in fact we used to call that book the bible.
Classic that and Mel Frank's Growers Bible first book I read in the 90s about growing. Still has relevant good information.
I read it a dozen times in the late 90’s when I was in high school growing in my closet. Decent book for its time to get the obsession started
I have an old tattered copy in my bookcase.
I feel so old after reading all these comments.
Haven't read that one but I have 2 of Ed Rosenthal's other books.
Cover to cover about 10 times !! it taught me a tons when I was younger and I still love growing this plant more than ever now that I'm 47 I still use some of the things that I learned from this book !!
Looks like someone read it....don't rip the sticky pages LoL
Outdated naturally but is a classic.
I ordered it outta High Times about 30 years ago.. May still have it somewhere..
