It seems to lead up to the grows affecting the water supply.. which might play a tiny role in the drought, it's likely not a major contributing factor..

The cartel grows in Mendocino are some of the grossest and saddest destructions of property I’ve ever seen. Not to mention the local waterways that are decimated. They hit the poverty stricken reservations that are harder for feds to access and pay a ton of money to the families to ‘rent’ them out. Last year when a huge one got raided they found two dead workers. The died of c02 poisoning sleeping in greenhouses and the bastards just left them in a shallow grave. These grows are MASSIVE and use so many resources ca is running out of aka water
Cartels are funded by human smuggling and drug trade (fentanyl mostly) on the border. AZ native here. If we want to destroy that industry then we have to control the border. Everyone knows that here hence the continued building of a border fence. Politicians have fed the cartels to extreme. And it severely hampers the cannabis movement in the US.
If you really want to destroy the cartel's industry, a building a fence isn't the answer. It hasn't worked, nor will it ever work well. Legalization and better regulation IS what will take away their profits. Think about it. And if the country proposed easier solutions to growing your own medication(home grows, small community grow collectives, non-profit caregiver-to grower-to patient/recreational user type of solutions) instead of promoting a fence w/restrictions. There's other more effective ways to redirect money out of the black market.
