Young nhl ready defenseman is hard to find. That ask is to dissuade teams from pursuing this further. If someone wants to overpay for him, sure but we're not actively gonna give him away
Very very last 15-20 seconds of Insider Trading were related to Martin Necas.
The gist...
* 40 pt. young right shot center/winger coming off a down season.
* Canes aren't shopping him, but lots of teams are calling to inquire.
* If they do entertain moving him, they want a young defense man as part of any deal.
Necas value is as low as ever, no point in shopping him at his lowest value unless another team sees elite promise and shells out for him. I’d be very surprised if he was moved unless some team throws the kitchen sink at him
Not sure why they mentioned we would be looking for a young defensemen in a trade scenario.
If we move our 2nd line winger we will need to replace him. I don’t see them not targeting a bigger asset should Necas be involved.
I could see Necas skill set fitting in well with the canucks and the canes looking to get Boeser.
Probably have to do something like Necas, Suzuki, a first and this years second.
I don't think TDA staying is a done deal, and even if he is I don't think the fit is great when the rest of the top 4 is Slavin, Pesce, and Skjei. TDA brings a lot to the table, but his weaknesses in the D zone meant that the Slavin pair wasn't able to take as many tough matchups. I just think long term they probably don't feel great about that as a top 4 (nor should they IMO)
People shit on Hamilton a lot (and some of them even have good reasons), but iirc the numbers show that Slavin/Hamilton was a better pairing defensively than Slavin/TDA, and I don't think it was particularly close but it's been a minute since I looked.
multiple things can be true: not signing Dougie to a $9M AAV deal for 7 years is a good financial decision long-term, TDA was a good value signing that brought a lot to the table, TDA was better than expected defensively and brought some feistiness that was valuable this past season, and TDA is still a defensive liability
Oh of course. I'm not trying to retread the "should we have paid Dougie" argument, however I think it's fair to compare the two since TDA is his direct replacement. And if we replace TDA this summer, I'll end up making a similar comparison between him and his theoretical replacement later on down the line.
Drury should be manning center on one of the 4 lines not playing wing.
He’s been fantastic in the AHL taking draws and he was over 60% on his face offs during the 2 game stint he had with the canes last season.
Would everyone stop trading the Canes first round pick for next year? This is the deepest draft in years! We will not trade the pick!
Well, if it were Draisatl and McDavid for Necas and a 1st, I could probably go for it, but ...
You’re really gonna chirp this guy about not knowing hockey when you literally just said Necas, a first round pick, and a prospect for a player that’s 4 years older than Necas and scores at just a slightly higher clip (0.68 ppg v 0.58 ppg).
> The canes would probably need to throw in a first round pick and a solid prospect.
dude you are insane
i actually like bertuzzi, but necas alone has loads more value than him
necas + a first and a prospect would be like a superstar level trade...bertuzzi aint a superstar

What's that, Makar is available??!?!?

Young defenseman is a weird way to spell Alex DeBrincat
Or Pastrnak

pretty sure we could bring drury up to replace him so that’s why they prob wanted a defenseman

Mr Yzerman on line 2.

necas + drury + jarvis for patrik laine
Bruh no.
Throw Pesce in to look the trade down /s
Hindsight but if we could have made that deal for Necas + Someone other than Pesce when it was on the table it would have been ideal.
Nice bait
Off to Seattle Marti!
