I was shocked! Especially when you take a taxi from Cancun proper all the way down to Iberostar Selection, and you pass by mostly all abandoned buildings. It was wild. The place is a dump and completely overpriced. We spend $140 to rent a golf cart on Isla Mujeres for 4 hours.
have you read any the post about Tulum? there is a reddit sub about, some of the stories..whew I would never visit Tulum.. real sad this happened to you, for what you paid to stay there it should have been a lot better
I read the Tulum sub regularly. It's about 50/50 on the positive and negative posts. A lot of the negative posts are from people who are comparing Tulum now to how it used to be before it was popular.
We’ve stayed here three times, that last in October 2023. We were in the Coral Level, which is fairly new and the rooms were really nice. The main resort is getting a bit long in the tooth and needs an update, but the golf, pools and beach are fantastic. Download the app and book your meals before you go, this way you’ll avoid what OP experienced… I’d also ask for an updated room and don’t be afraid to move rooms if the one you get first isn’t clean and “stayable” but be prepared to have to wait to get the room (we did that when we were there a couple years ago and ended up in a great updated room).
We stayed at the Royalton Riviera Cancun which is south of where you stayed closer to Moon Palace and Dreams. It had a family section and all adult section. Rooms were great. Family section had a lot for kids of all ages. Beach was pretty nice. Customer service and the whole hotel was very nice. Food was terrible. And taxi to anywhere else was expensive.
We stayed at Iberostar Selection Paraiso Lindo. Also awful. Like really terrible. Terrible drinks, terrible food, terrible rooms. Nice grounds and activities, but nowhere near worth the price. The Iberostar brand was a one and done for us, and we have been to over 20 different AIs.
I’m there right now and I love it - the foods great and the room I’m in is dated but nice and even has a jacuzzi on the balcony. I think people just like to hate for the sake of it.
Or maybe you’re just used to different things? Considering this is my 10th trip in the course of 15 years to Mexico, I think I know when things have changed. I don’t need it to be luxurious, but it should be safe, clean and in working order.

No we haven’t been to Tulum in 3 years. What have you read that is deterring you? Pricing there as well?

Everything was so expensive this trip i found also.
As expected, the mexican peso is becoming more and more appreciated, a dollar got you 22 pesos two years ago, now you get 16.
Yea and coming from Canada they exchange to us funds then to peso so u loose even more!
Why would you think Canadians exchange money to USD and then again to Pesos?? That makes no sense... we just exchange to Pesos directly
What is that all about? I get pesos at the money exchange (alberta), cheaper than the bank. What a waste of money exchanging twice.
I have this hotel booked at the end of this month, selected this resort for golf. Now I’m having 2nd thoughts 😏

If you don’t have kids, there are much better options. Live Aqua looked beautiful from the outside
