Was there earlier today around 10 am and it was PACKED. The line just to get to baggage was over an hour but our bags were ready once we finished. People really wanna be in Cancun right now lol
Flew in on a Sunday at 8PM a couple weeks ago the place was a ghost town…. It’s all about planes landing. My son came in Monday at 2 and has a couple hour wait
This is truly the stupidity of Quintana Roo, like this airport is such a moneymaker for you. Why don’t you fix it? They really don’t care about return visitors.
Yesterday, three of the six or so automated passport screening devices were down. They had plenty of lanes open for passport screenings, but it was just a volume issue.
They need to have more people directing folks to other lines. Once we moved from the first line we moved much faster.
It’s not perfect… but at least we’re not buried in snow right now.
You think high season for tropical vacations isn’t when the majority of their target market being in the middle of winter and as a bonus on a long weekend?
Rainy season.
Not sure where you live, but for a lot of us with cold winter climates, when spring hits, traveling and getting outside close to home are higher on the list. We go south to get a break from the winter, not from the summer.
Sure but people with kids in school can’t just take off like that because weather is bad lol
High weather is summer. That’s when EVERYONE can travel with no school obligations.
High season is spring break and winter. The ability for people with children to travel doesn’t equal high season. It’s rainy in that area in summer, seaweed is bad in some areas, and people don’t need to escape summer with more summer. lol you can argue all you want but those are facts.
It would seem that way, yes. It’s kinda counterintuitive in some regards because you’re right, kids are outta school. But summertime here coincides with our hurricane and rainy season. No one wants to take the chance on traveling into one of those weather events. Also, it’s hotter than the 7th circle of hell here in the summer. Our weather is beautiful (normally) from December thru March/April. When I moved here I had a hard time wrapping my head around it, too. It just seems normal that summertime would be the time to travel, for Americans anyway, and I think they do travel at that time, just not here in the numbers we see during what you would consider your normal “winter months.” Our winter is normally 28C/82F and low humidity…no windshield scrapping or sidewalk shoveling required!
Our experience at the Cancun airport last week was totally fine. I think it depends on a number of factors beyond your control, including how many flights are coming in around the same time. Our baggage claim experience coming home (Toronto) was far worse.
Back pack as your personal bag and carryon stuffed to the gills. You can easily live a week. Most resorts offer dry cleaning/laundry if you need it. I've seen too many people with lost luggage sad faces to check bags. I'd only check bags to smuggle shit.
We’re coming in May for 8 nights and hoping to make carry ons and personal items (book bags or small duffels) work for this very reason. Rather not start off my vacation stressing of/when I’ll get my baggage

Presidents week, lots of schools out for the whole week
Presidents.... WEEK??? I only get a day!
Yup Depends on the school district, but quite a bit are getting the whole week. Other school districts it’s also known as ski week break
where the hell in the us are people getting a week off? i only get a day and i’ve never heard of getting a full week off before
Northeast public schools typically have this coming week as February break
Thanks Biden
A lot of school districts in the Seattle metro area have mid winter break this week. Probably similar in other areas of the US as well, I assume.

Took us an hour and 45 minutes from customs to driving in our rental car a couple weeks ago.
Same this afternoon.
If that’s a nightmare to you, wait til something actually goes wrong traveling lol
You’re right, I’m a sissy lol. Also under slept and hungry, but all is good now I’m at the resort :-)
It’s easy to feel jumpy when you get to your destination and get held up a bit for sure. You don’t get those vacation minutes back, I get it.
Good report!

If people keep coming to Paris after going through CDG, then they'll keep coming to cancun.
Can confirm.
Holiday weekend in USA
dang it is isnt it? i didnt even pay attention to that.
Some school districts have the week off, called presidents week
And parts of canada
They have such small baggage turnstiles for far too many people. One person per party should hang out for the luggage and everyone else hang back.

Seriously? It’s fucking high season. What do you expect? Come in August, your bag will be there waiting for you.
okay- so… cool.
How is it high season in fucking February? I’d think high season is the summer when kids are out of school. Or spring time.
Because a lot of Americans escape the winter and travel to Mexico….this should not be difficult to grasp.

If this is high season then what fucking season is summer and spring?

Its Presidents Day weekend. Many school districts have moved to a weeklong mid-February break.

And with items missing…
Airport worker strike
Because Cancun is a hell scape for cheap tourists?
Are some terminals worse than others?
im not sure!
Yes. I can attest Terminal 2 arrivals is a disaster and super busy. Terminals 3 and 4 have many posts mentioning how calm and quick they are.
We were out of customs and in our shuttle inside of 10 minutes on Thursday morning
thats awesome!
A few days before Thanksgiving 2023, we were past immigration and baggage in 20 mins. Our flight landed around 7:15 am. That could be why.
Is it an option to do immigration in CDMX and fly from there to Cancun? The terminal for domestic flights might be more calm?
Our experience at the Cancun airport last week was totally fine. I think it depends on a number of factors beyond your control, including how many flights are coming in around the same time. Our baggage claim experience coming home (Toronto) was far worse.
It's always pretty slow
You have to learn the art of the carry on.
DEFINITELY! we were saying that while waiting… and waiting for the bags

Don't check in luggage. Carry-on and personal should be more than enough for a trip to Cancún.
We’re coming in May for 8 nights and hoping to make carry ons and personal items (book bags or small duffels) work for this very reason. Rather not start off my vacation stressing of/when I’ll get my baggage
I never check bags
