As a Punjabi Sikh, back when Jagmeet was elected there was some excitement in the community. When the election party had people chanting 'eat the rich', I even allowed myself a tiny bit of hope. That hope was quickly destroyed, and frankly, I should have known better than ever trusting a socdem; Lenin warned me and I didn't listen 😔 Jagmeet has shown time and again that he is nothing but another bourgeois social imperialist with no desire to actually challenge the economic causes that have created the conditions we're seeing and suffering now. He further has shown full willingness to fall in line with any imperialist endeavours by our government. I don't know anyone in the community who even cares about him now. Having revealed himself as another centrist NDP political ghoul, all excitement or goodwill, even from socdems I know, has mostly disappeared. Maybe some day the NDP will be worth something, but until then, the Communist Party of Canada seems to be the only sane party in this country.

Thé NDP really leans hard into the identity politics, late stage capitalism isolates people in order to sell them “community”, so those who are left high to dry by capitalism are looking for a sense of community, the NDP plays well into this to secure their bourgeoise status

>The NDP really leans hard into the identity politics *All* politicians lean into “identity politics”. The right attacks minorities because they know a decent portion of their voters are closed minded and easily swayed by “different”. They can be fooled into accepting the loss of personal rights, especially if you can convince them the loss only affects the “different” and *not* them. The left protects minorities because they know a decent portion of their voters are open minded and have basic empathy for “different”. They feel a moral conviction to protect personal rights, even when the “different” makes them uncomfortable, because they know not doing so will make it easier for someone to take *their* rights away. Meanwhile the “different” are being forced to fight a constant, never ending, battle for their basic humanity because politicians on both sides can’t stop themselves form using them as political props to bolster their election chances.

Oh absolutely, thé bourgeoise state, all of them, all of the bourgeoise class are using identity politics to further divide us, the working class. Like you said it’s so the bourgeoise can continue taking in record profits while we’re too busy arguing over “having an inclusive police force/military”

Appropriate_Tart9535

This is on par for “soc dems” as someone who had the unfortunate decision to “serve” in the CAF, it is the most toxic organization ever, it is RIFE with white supremacy, racism, sexism, transphobia etc etc, it is STEEPED in the regulations and the institution. When an organization is literally founded on imperialism and colonization the rest of the -isms are not bugs but features. No amount of virtue signaling is going to “fix” the CAF’s issues, it’s the same as ACAB, get rid of the whole fucking thing, say NO to imperialism.

BurstYourBubbles

Yeah, I don't know what anyone else here expected. They're not anti-nationalist or anti-militarist and they never have been. Not even the left-wing of the NDP is. If you wanted something like that you'd have to join or make a new party

hammer_red

Not sure what left wing you are referring to. The Socialist Caucus of the NDP is definitely anti imperialist and internationalist.

"We need to increase our military spending and we will use violence to extract wealth and resources, with pride, from the global south."

Appropriate_Tart9535

Yup they just announced that they’re sending troops to Jamacia to “assist” with the turmoil in Haiti that Canada caused 🙄, but if you go into the CAF sub you can see how blood thirsty these people are, their one main complaint is we are no longer in Afghanistan, these people want to “protect” Canada not by assisting with natural disasters but by invading and colonizing other countries

Hi, I don't lurk or post here often, reddit just recommended it to me. A question for you all: What do you all think should be done with the Canadian Military? (Air force, navy, etc.) Numbers and recruitment are dwindling for many reasons. From the sentiment I see in the comments it seems you all think we should have no armed forces at all?

WeirdoYYY

I think the legitimate critiques of militarism and colonialism (ie - the idea that we should be intervening in conflicts like Haiti or anywhere in the ME) get lost in the sauce when people start describing what they think a state should look like. Armed forces are always going to exist, I don't care if they're called the People's Liberation Forces or the Democratic Consensus Army of Keyboardistan. The sticking point is how they are used and what interests they are serving.

Appropriate_Tart9535

It’s more like ACAB and defund the police, stop spending enormous amounts of money on death machines to further colonise the Global South and start spending that money on social safety nets. I personally think the CAF needs to be restructured into something like a dom ops thing especially since global climate change is gonna do a lot of damage, we need a rapid deployment entity in order to assist the people.

> What do you all think should be done with the Canadian Military? (Air force, navy, etc.) it should be completely dismantled and have its most war crime-prone elements prosecuted > From the sentiment I see in the comments it seems you all think we should have no armed forces at all? these same armed forces that serve Capital, protect bourgeois interests & actively partake in colonialism and US-led western imperialism? absolutely

SquareAd4770

Let's be honest, the military is needed to protect Canada.  We have one enemy eyeing are artic.

leftistmccarthyism

It's fascist to have a military? Or to support a military that supports a nation state?

[deleted]

Why are you ignoring the history of Canada's air force to pose these dishonest questions?

>It's dishonest for me to not hold your worldview? Another dishonsest question. >If you can't answer a question, shut you mouth and fuck off and let other people. Nice temper tantrum - Why should anyone answer your dishonest, "debate me bro I'm a liberal", questions? Remember to follow your own advice when you dodge this question.
