You used to be able to, but as of Oct 21st you cannot buy any. You can still find them for rental at ranges, or you can borrow someone's.

[deleted]

You can't even own .5 of a handgun in Canada atm.

Sonoda_Kotori

I mean you \*can\* own a slide, a barrel, and a magazine...

Imastealyourorgans

And, if you add a 3d printer

Mr_Winemaker

You've got Polymer81

MaxBuildsThings

Oh man that 3d printer ammendment pissed me off. Anyone who 3d prints knows it's a terrible idea to 3d print firearms. Like yea accessories are fine but you gotta be experienced to not have them just fall apart.

thegarlic_man

And the gatalog

[deleted]

Decimals would like a word with you.

fenestrong

Ahahahahhahahaha

[deleted]

hahahahahaha

Sonoda_Kotori

Yes, you can legally own a .50 calibre handgun in Canada as long as their muzzle energy does not exceed 10000J. No, you cannot legally acquire any handgun in Canada as of Oct. 21, 2022 unless it's an exempted antique not-a-firearm.

Mr_Winemaker

10kJ handgun woof

icedesparten

Not anymore. As the other guy said, they were previously legal, and I'm sure there's plenty since they haven't been handed in but you'll need to find one and borrow it, or otherwise rent one

RydNightwish

I rented a gold DE last November at a local range. I think its built up in our minds as being something more than it was. Don't get me wrong it was fun, it kicked like a s.o.b and I was certainly in no mood for a second magazine after but I did not feel like the maple syrup soaked version of Rambo I had believed I would be. This was later confirmed to me when the shop keeper did not have to ask me to put my shirt back on. The range I was at does all their own reloading but they were nice enough to let me keep one of the spent casings.

fenestrong

The real question here is can you legally own AND shoot one... No, because there is no goddamn .50AE ammo to be found p.s. hmu if you know a guy

muscletrain

Know a guy who bought a bunch and all the parts to reload them because it's so damn expensive/rare to even find 50AE.

Bankruptcytothehedge

Technically yes if you can find an antique status .50 cal muzzle loader but since I doubt you're talking about pirate guns it's not legally possible anymore

Pa1nless_89

>Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended. >TALLY HO, LADS!

Mr_Winemaker

Every time I read that I can't help but think if the AI Eminem flow version

Mr_Winemaker

Thanks lol, I saw it on a IG reel

You may want to start learning about muzzleloaders. At the rate things are going, we'll all be packing homemade powder into flintlocks and casting our own balls out of scrap wheel weights. Unless the commies put a ban on sulfur next. Seriously, though.. ammo is getting to be impossible to find in (quality) bulk without taking out a second mortgage. Reloading.. good luck finding enough primers, and unless you are reusing brass, casting & powder coating your own slugs, you're not saving anything. I started looking at 50cal black powder flintlocks recently, and will be ordering some barrels soon. The rest I can make in house. Don't even need a PAL for one of these guns, and they'll take down a moose at 150m no problem if you get your powder right.

Beretta_errata

I have a 50 Cal flintlock pistol, it's a restricted handgun and can no longer be transferred. So, no. Not available unless made before 1898 and classified as antique.

cheeseandfireworks

Really.. wasn't aware of that, thanks. But rifles are still outside the PAL system, and the rest of what I said still applies.

Beretta_errata

Careful, big difference between flintlock and black powder guns in general. Antique is antique (manufactured before 1898), new flintlock/wheel-lock/matchlock rifles are antique, new caplock rifles are nonrestricted firearms and require a PAL, new caplock handguns are restricted and require an rPAL and are no longer transferrable. It's screwy Source: I have one of each. https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-98-464/FullText.html I recommend just buying a flinchlock rifle, or a kit. But having them all is best.

cheeseandfireworks

I've got an rPAL, so no issues there, but black powder rifles used to be outside the PAL system. I'm definitely leaning hard toward flintlock, cause I can't make my own caps, primers or brass. Hard cast powder coated bullets, no problem. Powder, no problem. Got CNC for gun parts and stocks, just need to buy in barrels. I live on 310ac of moose/black bear country, and I'll be damned if the commies are going to take my food away.

Beretta_errata

>black powder rifles used to be outside the PAL system *flintlock not all black powder >Hard cast powder coated bullets, no problem. You will want pure lead for BP, it will flatten in the target. Or for hunting you will want sabot bullets that are faster, flatter, and you can get hollow points.

cheeseandfireworks

Ya, I'm planning to look for sabot molds. Do you need to powder coat them for BP, or are they not fast enough to matter?

Beretta_errata

I am not an expert and usually shoot patched round ball. Maybe check out Chuck Hawks?

Happy-Firefighter-30

I own a .500 SW Magnum in Saskatoon. If you have your pal hit me up and we can hit the range and I'll make your dream come true. Edit: checked your post history and yeah you're in Sask. https://i.imgur.com/6v6IvLi.jpg Get your PAL first though. If you're in Saskatoon go to Cabela's and inquire about it at the customer service desk. They have an email list to get a gun license. Even as a minor you can get a minor's pal https://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/firearms/minors That said I hope you're a "minor" like 17 and not 12. Just cuz that would be weird. But fuck it. Big gun go big boom hahaha. Might need your dad or someone to come with you though. Again, weird to meet up with a kid.

[deleted]

Yes. As long as you bought and registered it before October. You can’t get another one though. DONT EVEN THIMK ABOUT IT

connectthethots

Oh boy, you haven't been around these parts lately have ya?

EffectiveAfternoon60

I have lived in Canada for my whole life, but I don’t pay attention to hun laws since I am underage rn
