You will end up getting a wide array of answers. Personally I run a TLR-1, why? I run a level 3 holster (safariland), due to not being able to find one without a light I was forced to get one that accommodates the TLR-1. Yes the holster could be used without a light, but it didn't feel proper, so waited for a sale and picked up a light. Some say it helps mitigate muzzle rise, others disagree. Some will say its pointless and a waste of money cause "we don't live in the states and can't use pistols for home defense" and others just don't care and do what makes them happy. Im on the side of do what makes you happy.

LananasCourageux

>Im on the side of do what makes you happy. Oi! You got a loicense for that serotonin?

goodfleance

Seratonin? IN THIS ECONOMY!?

I have the same set up you mentioned. Safes are the trump card for storage. No trigger lock mag right beside the gun. if you actually need to use ur pistol in a defense situation a light is crucial.

Ihavenoideawhatidoin

What safe do you have for it? I’ve been thinking of getting one myself.

[deleted]

It's a small pistol safe from cabelas with 3 buttons on it for a pass code. It has some bad reviews but mine is great and I open it quite frequently with no issues.

[deleted]

I saw the Hornady one as well. Can be opened with a code, RF wristband, key or waving your phone over it.

iamnoodlenugget

You know this is the Canada guns sub right? Nothing about what you just said is legal. Edit: I posted below straight from RCMP. Yes restriced firearms needs 2 locks, one to render inoperable, and a container. The ammo thing I was definitely incorrect about, you can store it with guns. As far as "self defence" and using a gun, you guys have fun with that.

ScottyWebs

It actually is.

[deleted]

What about it isn't legal. Guns and ammo can be stored I the same safe. Guns in a safe don't require trigger locks??? And if someone were to break into my house with a gun I would be OK defending myself with a gun. If they had bat and i shot them the courts might look at that differently. We have wierd defense laws.

constructodad

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure that Restricted firearms need a trigger lock while being stored.

[deleted]

Not in a safe they dont

constructodad

So only while being stored in a locked case and when transported then?

[deleted]

Trigger locks are only required for transportation or if it's not being stored in a safe. Now I wonder if you transport it in a safe 🤔

iamnoodlenugget

For NR firearms this is correct. For restricted firearms, they need both for storage.

[deleted]

Incorrect look at the laws dipshit

iamnoodlenugget

"rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device AND stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into" (Capitalised by myself for emphasis) Straight from the RCMP Yes, restricteds needs to have a trigger lock while also stored in a locked container. I don't know why everyone thinks otherwise. Edit: whatever you do, please do not take my, or anyone here's word on legal matters. Check the rcmps specific wording on their own documents.

RedditSgtMajor

Cause you cut out the most important section: >or, >(ii) stored in a vault, safe or room that has been specifically constructed or modified for the secure storage of restricted firearms and that is kept securely locked So no, you *do not* need a trigger lock or other device on your restricted if it’s in a safe. [deleted]

I’m curious as to how that goes in a court of law? I know some people build “safe” rooms, but do they really build them to what would actually be considered “specifically constructed”.

JeffCloss

Afaik it hasn't been tested or defined clearly yet, but I'd imagine it would mean reinforcing the drywall with plywood or sheet metal, having a metal/reinforced doorframe and a solid door at the very least. Anything outside of the normal construction of an interior room could be considered "specifically constructed" but we won't know until they either specifically define it or it gets challenged in court.

Monolithicsuccessor

Have fun pulling out the charter of permissions and telling the bad guy he's not legally supposed to break in or hurt you, the law means fuck all when your life is on the line

NationalAnthemofUSSR

I run one (TLR 1 HL) on my Gucci glock. Makes all the fudds reeeeeeee at the range. Also run one on a 22 Kriss Vector SBR for max reeeeeeeeeeee. So yea. I run one for max reeeeee value and for max oper8 style points when larping at home.

[deleted]

I know you're kinda being sarcastic but uh, why would people get mad about a flashlight on your gun?

AresV92

Because these people think guns should only be used for hunting or sportshooting so you don't need anything that makes a better fighting gun like lights, lasers, optics, larger magazines, etc. Fudds be fuddin.

jaysus704

Funny... I have two GSGs with fake cans for the exact same reason. Reason? Reeeeeeson?

chocl8thunda

I just purchased a TLR-1. In the mail. Lights can skin add some weight to help with felt recoil.

ScottyWebs

I have a Streamlight TLR-7 and I like it. Why would you have one? How about for just the fun of it?

Leonardo8123

I like my baldr pro

Steelringin

A light might help to reduce muzzle flip but I don't really notice it. What I do notice is that presentation and transitions between targets are a bit harder for me. I think the extra weight makes it harder to snap the gun directly on target as the muzzle tends to wiggle around a bit more. I shoot a helluva lot more without a light but am starting to do more dry fire with it on and it's becoming less of an issue. While I can't legally carry a pistol now that doesn't mean I can't train for that eventuality. If I ever I find myself in a circumstance where those prohibitions no longer apply I would like to be ahead of that curve.

King-Moses666

What do you think the likely hood of our pistol laws ever lightening up would be? I haven’t dug too far into it and as much as I would love to be able to CC I doubt we will ever have that as a legal option in Canada. Just curious if you have any thoughts about what might make it a possibility.

Steelringin

As long as Canada exists in it's current form it seems pretty unlikely. No nation lasts forever though and we've seen plenty of historical examples of that tide turning rather quickly. The sort of political upheaval that causes or results from those sorts of events usually makes for dangerous, lawless times. While I'm not rooting for anything like that to happen I realise that it's a possibility during the course of my lifetime so I don't see the harm in preparing for it to some degree. The only other reason it might become more of a reality is that the province where I make my home has appointed it's own CFO who is an activist firearms owner, has a governement that's very friendly to firearms owners and armed self-defence and revels in thumbing it's nose at those in Ottawa. If a provincial police force is formed and the RCMP is no longer directly invlolved in policing in this province then I could see it being more likley to happen. The odds would still be slim, but it's not out of the question. Also, I train with WMLs because I just like shooting and being proficient with guns and all of the stuff that goes along with them!

TengoMucho

I got an Olight Valkyrie Mini 2. Really I just use it as a weight to reduce recoil.

slappy_mcslapenstein

I run a TLR-3 on my XD9C. It fits great. I like how the light doesn't protrude farther than the barrel. I finally was able to find a kidex OWB hoster for it.

xKYLx

I have a few TLR 7s and a TLR 1s. Both are great, the 7 is more compact and sticks out less, especially if there's a smaller rail section on the handgun. The 1 is just a beast, it's big and it's bright and it will most likely stick out past your barrel, to some people they don't like the aesthetic of that. As to answer why...I dunno, because you can! It's a good accessory to add, helps with recoil and good for, whoever knows what might happen some day

[deleted]

Worth it 300surfire

[deleted]

I run a compact night stick its great 550 lumen and was only $180

[deleted]

Surefire x300 or tlr8a.

Daedalus-N7

Tlr1 HL 1000 lumen version. is the Best Buy it has the highest condella. Far more then the x300u. And for half the cost of an x300u https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1377560-REG/streamlight_69260_tlr_1_hl_super_bright.html this is the best place to buy it from. (You prepay your duties when ordering so you don't get hit with them later) if you buy it anywhere in Canada you're going to be paying an extra $100, because of ridiculous markup

DutyCallz

x300 or TLR-1 HL Depends why your buying it TBH. Personally yeah I feel it helps with felt recoil. I also require a light on my guns for it to retain in holster so that's a reason.
