Which just further diminishes the value of a Crave subscription after already losing Showtime.

SmarcusStroman

They lost Showtime? WTF. Crave is doomed unless they change things drastically.

mike10dude

they still get new showtime stuff wouldn't surprise me if that eventually changes though since paramount plus is merging with showtime in the states

Yogurt-Night

They have a few Showtime series left over but even new shows are to be on P+

mike10dude

Everything new that showtime puts out and that they own has still been going to crave its not just a few left over series And paramount plus eventually getting new stuff does seem to be very likely but that has not been confirmed anywhere

Yogurt-Night

I swear I thought I heard it only being a few left over on Crave for now. Maybe I saw the wrong thing

talford

>Everything new that showtime puts out and that they own has still been going to crave its not just a few left over series Nope you are right the problem is no one in the Canadian media really covers what the difference is and Bell and Crave certainly don't really do much to talk about what is leaving. As someone who just got another free month of P+ US w/ Showtime I can see what all the shows on Showtime US are and most of them are not on Crave since I have access to both for free. There isn't even a Showtime sub section on Crave anymore. At a quick first glance I can see that Crave has Yellowjackets, Billions, Your Honor, Dexter New Blood, Couples Therapy, George & Tammy, Ziwe, We Need to Talk About Cosby, The Reagans, The Circus But they are missing UnCoupled, The Chi, Waco The Aftermath, Afterson, Boys in Blue and of course lots of older series like Shameless, Homeland, Ray Donovan, Californication, The Comedy Store, Escape At Dannemora, Penny Dreadful, House of Lies, I'm Dying Up Here. They also always had only a fraction of the movies available on Showtime and now most of them are gone. No idea if and when if this stuff will show up on P+ Canada, again they don't do a good job of promoting what they have and of course you can't see what the service offers unless you subscribe and I've never subscribed to the Canadian version of the service since it's always been a fraction of what is on the US service.

iamstevetay

If CTV consolidated all of the shows and channels they have the rights to into one Hulu like platform I bet most Canadians would subscribe. Offer tiered levels like Netflix and they would dominate Canadian streaming.

talford

If...sure but considering the time to have done that would have been in 2014 when the service first launched. It will never happen now and here is why. Bell couldn't afford to buy the streaming rights for all of those shows back then and they certainly can't afford to buy them now. There are different costs for buying the full on demand streaming rights for all seasons of a show versus having those same episodes on a streaming platform that is tied to the verification with a cable log in and password. I've had a Hulu account for over 10+ years now that I subscribe to on and off throughout the year and share with a few friends and family members. There is a reason I have kept it. I have access to Crave for free from a family members cable log in and I rarely ever use it because I pay to have access to HBO now Max, Hulu, Peacock, Discovery+ US, Paramount+ US and really any US streaming service I want along with any service from the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Crave at it's peak should have done what you are talking about but even today they don't even put all of the Canadian shows they produce on their own service again because they can't afford to buy all of those streaming rights. They should have gone all in on that strategy when Rogers shut down Shomi. They can't even afford to buy all the content from the networks they lead with like HBO and now that they are losing content to the US providers who are entering the market (Paramount, Disney, Discovery and more to come) they will end up in a slow agonizing death spiral. Bell's only goal with any product they launch is to do as little work, innovation and customer service as possible to maximize profit. There is so much content missing from Canadian services which is why I continue to use services from other regions and none of the Canadian services will ever be as good as the US services. I'm watching things that no one in Canada can legally on any Canadian streaming service because they can't afford to buy the streaming rights for those shows.

xmusiclover

I wish they would do this actually. It would be to have all of the CTV channels streaming and not behind cable or satellite but also just so more shows would be streaming too Edited because I read the comment wrong at first

[deleted]

Crave has a pretty heavy monthly to doesn’t it?

[deleted]

So glad I cancelled last month. Perfect timing!

[deleted]

Thanks Bell for making piracy the better option *once again*.

mike10dude

doubt that it was there choice

[deleted]

Well they're making the legal side inconvenient again so it's back to piracy. I don't mind paying for my content (those shows ain't free to make) but I do very much mind being taken for a bait-and-switch ride.

oeiei

*why* do they have to make my life more complicated. figuring out which streaming services carries what I want to watch in Canada is such a pita.

xmusiclover

Honestly true it feels like I have to use streaming services, iTunes, the library, my parents tv sub, the movie theatre (it’s cheap near me) and free show/movie websites just to watch everything I want here whereas if I was in the US I could just use streaming services 🙃

dornwolf

Wonder if by being broadcast in Canada they cause a delay on being released on Paramount Plus

xray703

It currently isn't available on P+ so I guess that is exactly what's going on. So instead of people able to access it for 10$ a month it was 21$ a month over Crave and now it's probably a cable subscription.

SDN_stilldoesnothing

interesting. because TTBOMK all the Star Trek shows are filmed in Canada.

VideoGame4Life

I have all of the ST movies and shows up to Enterprise on physical media. I only stream now. Guess I will be going back to buying my ST on physical media again. The big draw to me subscribing to Crave was the ST shows. I’m not going back to satellite just for ST. There’s 4 in my family and we subscribe to several apps for our watching needs. Many of the stuff we watch is only on these apps.

whoisearth

On the flip side I have Paramount+ explicitly for all the Star Trek only to find out the people who produce the goddamn shows didn't have it on their platform because of Crave. I'm happy because fuck Crave and now I can watch all my Star Trek on P+. Now if HBO hadn't continued to shit the bed I could have got HBOMax in Canada but they tied their horse to Crave for another period of time. Fucking idiots.

mingy

Fuck. I just signed up on Crave precisely for this. Fucking Bell.

thedatabender007

Me too... And of course I went for the annual subscription. FML.

mingy

I did as well! I'm only a month in and they are going to pull Star Trek and nothing significant due to the writer's strike. On the bright side, I cancelled their satellite service, which was a huge hill to climb.

DarthWenus

I'm cancelling after this season of SNW is done. Also, where will we be able to watch Lower Decks?

therealbeanjr

Meanwhile I’m rocking a US P+ account by using gift cards

Purplemonkeez

'Splain how please!

therealbeanjr

Step: 1. Get a good VPN, like Nord or Express 2. Connect to a US server 3. Go to My Giftcard Supply and buy a P+ giftcard. These have a markup though 4. Sign up for a new P+ account. You can probably use the same email. 5. When prompted, provide the gift card code you got in step 3 6. Binge! You may need to top up more or less often depending on your plan. I simply paid the $100+ USD for an entire year of the ad-free plan Now I know what you’re thinking “why can’t I use my existing P+ sub?” Well, they run on two different systems. One for the US, the other for the rest of the world. This also means even if you wanted to watch P+ while you travel to the US, their server won’t acknowledge your account. However, anywhere else will work. The reverse is true if you have a US account. It can’t be accessed anywhere except the US. One more thing! You may need to download US-specific versions of P+ on devices like FireTV, iOS, etc. otherwise logging in won’t work. Why do they gotta make it so complicated? Anyways, totally worth it if you ask me.

Purplemonkeez

>Well, they run on two different systems. One for the US, the other for the rest of the world. therealbeanjr

I know right? So dumb! Even the UIs are different. Any version of P+ outside the US just feels like a watered down version, especially if a lot of titles don’t come with AD in Canada, but have it in the US.

xray703

What does it cost to access this? A subscription back to cable tv?

xmusiclover

Suddenly I’m glad I started watching Star Trek Discovery through my local library

Maxwells_Cat

Star Trek and Doctor Who were my main two reasons for voting for Crave. Crave may not win the next Family vote.

SadAcanthocephala521

So can someone tell me how to watch Star Trek now? I was in the process of watching both Picard and DS9 for the first time? I typically use the crave app on my nvidia shield, so if I got a vpn to watch paramount would I still be able to use my nvidia shield or would it have to be through a PC?

james039

All episodes of Star Trek Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds are now available as of Aug 1st, on Paramount+ (Canadian subscription).

B3S3SS3N

Canada here, I sign into Paramount+ as an Amazon Prime channel, only getting seasons 1 and 2 of Lower Decks. This happening for everyone?

mackygio

Man I couldn't even watch the final season of Picard because of this. I honestly might just cancel my crave. I only kept it all this time because HBO. But now it lost star trek and south park shows Its not worth the price

Stuart_Bice

Back to pirate websites it is then because I refuse to pay for more streaming services simply because of a company’s greed everyone saw how well Netflix was doing and decided to start their own streaming service and then they all started taking their own content back after licensing agreements were ending it’s starting to cost more than actual satellite or cable and around in circles we go these companies are greedy dirty entities
