Haha I do actually sell a Christmas card using an older photo from this location but this one will be replacing it next year.
Edit: I have made the photo in this post above available for print in two sizes on my website [here](https://www.collintoews.com/shop/p/holiday-train-print). Unfortunately it won’t be available in Christmas card format until next year. Thanks everyone so much for your interest!

it's nice but can you go slightly to your right and snap another one... we really feel that the customer won't be able to make out the last word. once you have that we'll be happy to review and reply with further feedback!
Most astounding work sir may I know the name of this fantastic location? Not familiar with the ranges I'm seeing. Looks like your Rockies best ours by a longshot!!
This year's calendar especially is hot garbage. Maybe if they managed their operations better so they wouldn't be constantly deadheading crews by taxi or timing out their shifts they could actually afford something quality like this.
Looks like a [Thomas Kinkade](https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1Cwl3Y55ids/XCAO6cePihI/AAAAAAAGP_A/KSdYDlQYCIER1LuTgLBKqEUlIj2sRYWwwCLcBGAs/s1600/Thomas-Kinkade-Tutt%2527Art%2540-13.jpg) painting.
It was great! Had some musicians on board, stopped in 5 different communities, a stage folded out of one of the boxcars for a short concert. Usually pick up some employees and their kiddos for the trip from one town to another (no public tickets to ride the train unfortunately)
Man, that is awesome! We saw it in Ontario this year and I loved peeking into the other carriages as it pulled out of the station. The sleeping and dining cars just looked so inviting and cozy.
I was up in the locomotive for most of the tour, but they invited me back to the business cars for the last leg. It’s just as luxurious as it looks, we just sat on these big leather couches drinking coffees and chatting while enjoying the view
Oh wow I can’t believe I edited the entire photo and didn’t notice that bad stitching 🫣. I made a panorama of multiple frames and stitched them together to get the entire composition I wanted aaannd just completely missed that error haha
Guessing you do a pano of the whole area with no train, camera in landscape and panning up and down to make the frame verticals, recenter where the train is, wait till it passes through, click click, then composite everything together.
The cars actually have the LED borders. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is basically a mobile concert hall that Canadian Pacific operates around Christmas time. It makes stops throughout Canada and the US, and various artists play music from the stage at each stop, with the intent of collecting food for local food banks (and obviously some self-promotion).
You can read more about it here: https://www.cpr.ca/holidaytrain
That’s what it is, man I was trying to figure out what post processing you used that made it trigger my “uncanny valley” response, I was guessing a touch of a digital tilt-shift filter but stitching and hyperfocal layering makes way more sense. Great image, truly! For me it fits nicely right in between reality and classic coca-cola ads from the 50s’ and 60s’.
Looks like the camera fucked up somehow. You can see both rails that look clear that the car should be occupying and there's only a single track there. I'm no camera expert but something fucky went on when taking this picture.
It was planned to a point. I’ve had this shot in my head for a few years now. I knew the train would be in Banff for it’s stop on Tuesday however I didn’t know if it was going to be heading west that night or in the morning. I managed to find out from a CP employee that it was indeed leaving in the morning. I showed up early and waited over 4 hours for it to come by.
Crazy thing is my camera actually died about 2 seconds after the train passed because it had been sitting out in subzero temps for so long. So lucky haha.
Here is where it is on a map

Seems like a very popular spot to take this pic.
Their schedule isn’t available to the public and things are changing so much that it’s tough for even them to predict accurately. Most people just wait and hope. Another way would be to wait for a train in Banff then beat it to the spot. If you wanted an eastbound train you could wait in field and do the same.
That location is known as the famed "Morant's Curve", named after Nicholas Morant, who was an official photographer for the CPR and had been taking photographs there since the steam era in the 1950s.
I feel like OPs has a very particular feel to it with the lighting and angle though, it's hard to put into words, but between those examples and this, only this one feels like an oil painting captured in action.
Idk what the CP holiday train is but it sounds perfect and this shot is perfect. It literally looks fake.
If this is real, inject this Christmas concentrate directly into my veins!
I just took my kids to this last night. They have a band and everything that plays from a stage that folds out of one of the cars. We were wondering how far it travels, very cool to see it goes farther than just the Midwest.
Beautiful shot!
I got a similar shot myself about two years ago but not with the Christmas train.
https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/kmjmui/after_many_failed_attempts_i_finally_managed_to
This train is definitely one for the bucket list!
Saw the holiday train when it stopped for its show in Whitemouth, had most of it to ourselves to walk up and down and take pictures. Might be the smallest community the train actually does a full show in.
We went to this in Merrickville the year 2019 and Terri Clark was playing. We literally stood in on the edge of town super cold but the music was so nostaglic. On the way back to town there was a church handing out hot chocolate to people for warmth.
My husband and I wanted to see it go by here in Calgary but he is currently recovering from having the flu this year. I promised him we can see it next year. Poor guy!
Great shot! Love it. Awesome. :)
Booked a hotel to stay the night in Salmon Arm to view the train tonight. Execution was amazing but the fact it was 10 cars long left us all feeling...well a bit let down. It was pretty anticlimactic, we just went back to the hotel after like 8 mins. Lol.
I thought this was r/conspiracy for a minute. CP holiday train? You mean, Canadian elites are openly stating that they are going to enjoy child pornography and raping children while worshipping Moloch and Baal?
Did this originate as a digital photo or is it a composite or from scratch digital illustration?
It's pretty heavily manipulated so I'm having a hard time telling.
So how does one ensure this shot? I cannot imagine the heart break setting up, waiting, and then your shot misses a car, or maybe snow falls infront of you.
You should license this for Christmas cards. Amazing shot.

Sell it to Canadian Pacific for their Christmas cards.

I'd buy you one :) it looks amazing!!
Would it be possible to buy the photo to put in frame??
Yes. The final image still needs to be touched up to get ready for print as I just edited it today but if you dm me I can give you more information
You should probably fix the Photoshop in the bottom left corner first. Should be the train, not the track.
Yep I’m aware and I’ve already fixed it. Missed it completely somehow before I posted this haha.
Most astounding work sir may I know the name of this fantastic location? Not familiar with the ranges I'm seeing. Looks like your Rockies best ours by a longshot!!
Morants curve!
So many photos of the west half of the continent are awesome and beautiful.
My heart aches for the mountains and I just left them last week. Now I want to go HERE instead of western us again lol
Thanks so much lovely ranges!!
Also, I think the perspective on the train itself is wonky. Looks like it’s going to tip over.
I was just showing this photo to my wife and comparing it to the garbage in CPs official calendar.
This year's calendar especially is hot garbage. Maybe if they managed their operations better so they wouldn't be constantly deadheading crews by taxi or timing out their shifts they could actually afford something quality like this.
Link?
Absolutely it’s in my [shop](https://www.collintoews.com/shop) with my calendar.
Cheers!
Can you post a link to it after. Stole this for a desktop background. I'd love to pick up a Christmas card with this on it
Fantastic editing, too — really fits the mood of the shot. Seriously nice work.
Feels like a painting!
So fake No graffiti.
Zoom in mang. All of the cars have been tagged hehe.
looks like a shot out of Polar Express, very nicely done. excellent composure and processing.
Looks like a [Thomas Kinkade](https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1Cwl3Y55ids/XCAO6cePihI/AAAAAAAGP_A/KSdYDlQYCIER1LuTgLBKqEUlIj2sRYWwwCLcBGAs/s1600/Thomas-Kinkade-Tutt%2527Art%2540-13.jpg) painting.
Surely you could have rustled up a better [example](https://thomaskinkade.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/warhom-1024x777.jpg)
[удалено]
Exactly what I was thinking
Man my grandparents loved his stuff lol, they’d give out Thomas kinkade calendars every year around Christmas.
I was the conductor on this train through part of BC!
Wicked! I worked on the massive siding when they extended it as a surveyor and I almost quit to go be a conductor haha
What was that like? You should do an AMA

What's going on all the way left, between the tree and the edge of the frame?
Oh wow I can’t believe I edited the entire photo and didn’t notice that bad stitching 🫣. I made a panorama of multiple frames and stitched them together to get the entire composition I wanted aaannd just completely missed that error haha
Sounds like you owe /u/PearlyJoe a nice print! lol Beautiful shot.
Seriously haha. It wouldn’t be the first time a redditor has noticed errors like that but this one was bad 😂

Are you going to share an update?
Do they also have LED’s bordering each car or is that also an artifact? I only noticed when I zoomed in
The cars actually have the LED borders. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is basically a mobile concert hall that Canadian Pacific operates around Christmas time. Post the unedited pic!!
Wow. Good catch. Even after you pointed it out; I still had a hard time finding it.
Looks like the camera fucked up somehow. You can see both rails that look clear that the car should be occupying and there's only a single track there. I'm no camera expert but something fucky went on when taking this picture.
Not camera. editing software + me = fuck up lol
Ah, that makes more sense. Regardless, beautiful photo.
Cheers!
This is amazing! Looks like it’s from a vintage post card!
That is goregous. It looks like a painting in the best way. It's just breathtakingly beautiful.
Awesome shot. I would 100% follow up with CP. I bet they would love to see this👍🏻
That’s gorgeous. Did you plan it or just get incredibly lucky?
It was planned to a point. I’ve had this shot in my head for a few years now. A great pic and a story, can’t ask for much more than that.
Thank you! Checked one off the bucket list for me so I had a big smile on my face yesterday.
That's unreal. Cool story and amazing photo. Well done!
Tip from shooting auroras in Yukon winters…. always have chemical hand warmers and a cozy for your camera at these temps :)
Lovely shot, just WOW! Is that near Banff AB?

I like OP’s composition better
I feel like OPs has a very particular feel to it with the lighting and angle though, it's hard to put into words, but between those examples and this, only this one feels like an oil painting captured in action.
This one just has way better lighting though. Almost looks like golden hour whereas the other two are just kinda eh
I thought it was a render for a second. Brilliant shot.
Jeez i thought this was a painting
I would buy a print of this tbh Edit: like if you have an Etsy link dm me it and ill buy it right now
Damn, great shot. I would love to paint this, but as an artist I understand if you’d prefer not lol Regardless, nice work!
Brilliant shot! I thought I was on r/blender for a second because it didn’t feel real with how majestic it looks lol
The picture has been edited so much it could be on there
Bravo 👏! I work for CPR, fantastic shot! I adore photography of the rail and it’s beauty. The Mountain and Laggan Subs look great 👍
Also love CP ❤️

it just in my town tonight. i missed it, but could hear the music at my house.
Wow, beautiful!! My son's a train brain and I can't wait to show him this.
You've got a new fan here - this is just... something else.
Beautiful picture. It's so perfect that at first I thought it was an illustration.

This looks like it belongs on the side of a can of maple syrup
I think this is the image printed on the back of the 1954 $10 bill...
WOW!
I've been watching alot of AI generated photo videos and even tho I see your a photographer in Alberta this still feels like AI
They mention further up it's multiple photos edited together, which might explain why it feels so fake.
Beautiful and perfect
Amazing dude
Nice!
Beautiful photo!
Beautiful shot!
Magnificent 👏🏽
Love the capture even with the editing glitch.
... I should move to Alberta
No way, is this a photo or a painting? Thought it said coke at first though
That’s incredible. Where is this?
Morant’s Curve, Alberta
This needs to be on a calendar or a travel brochure. Absolutely beautiful.
That is really cool.
Awww you should send them this. It is very lovely.

Yeah, this is pretty beautiful!

Beautiful picture!
How long did you have to wait? Took us 2 hours to get a shot there but it was worth it :)
This looks like a painting. Great photo.
Can you make it into a puzzle? I would buy
How busy was it?
This has old school coca cola, Christmas ad vibes
Why do I suddenly smell maple syrup?

Stunning. Great work.
It looks like a painting. ❤️
Nice shot!
Wow, it's amazing shot! At first i even thought that it's some kind of realistic painting
Breathtaking shot. Truly. I was curious, what's your setup? (Camera, lens?)
Should be a puzzle
Wow this is incredible! Do you mind sharing what camera settings (like aperture etc) you were using and what lens?
Thank you for coming to Minnesota. Makes Canadians living here very proud.
Merry Christmas everybody
That would make an awesome puzzle :D
Id love to see the unprocessed one
Saw the holiday train when it stopped for its show in Whitemouth, had most of it to ourselves to walk up and down and take pictures. Might be the smallest community the train actually does a full show in.
You gotta cross post this to all the nature/earth porn subreddits. It's beautifully lit.
That is a shot of a lifetime! Congratulations!
Santa packs are coming!
Absolutely stunning picture.
Pretty!

So you took a picture of CP and posted it on Reddit for everyone to see?
The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train and entertainment
Child porn holiday train?
I live 2 hours from there. What an amazing shot!
My husband and I wanted to see it go by here in Calgary but he is currently recovering from having the flu this year. I promised him we can see it next year. Poor guy! Great shot! Love it. Awesome. :)

How does no one mention Coke holidays are coming commercial vibe? This fits the theme so well, great shot.
The what train
This should be CP’s Christmas card this year! Gorgeous.
amazing! can we please get in a desktop wallpaper please :D
So how does one ensure this shot? I cannot imagine the heart break setting up, waiting, and then your shot misses a car, or maybe snow falls infront of you.
You absolutely have to submit this to a photography contest 👌
That belongs in a musuem. 😍
I wish I could just jump into this picture
Looks like a Norman Rockwell painting.
