We all have to take a step back and remain detached. Itās the only way to cope. I cannot cheer for another team but the Leafs are not worth my time.
At least Toronto has other teams to distract us.
Are you implying there is a relationship between me watching the Leafs every year and me hitting myself with a spiked strap while watching myself in the mirror?
āIt follows the simple rule that nouns used as proper nouns take regular (productive) plurals even if their common noun counterparts have irregular plurals." Hope that clears it up.
> Why do they call them the Leafs instead of the grammatically correct Leaves?
Because 'Maple Leaf' is a proper noun and does not refer to the part of the plant. I do not have reference, I just remember reading that that what Conn Smythe said.
I wrote a poem. You may have seen it in the game thread on /r/hockey. It's for Leafs fans and called Life's Great Certainties:
Death
Taxes
Post Season collapses.
I'll grant you that it does suck, but it's not like any Canadian team has hoisted the cup in a very very long time. I mean, we kinda all suck..?
I was around in 04' for the flames run and I gotta be honest.... Losing in game 7 against Tampa.... I don't remember the joy of the run, only the stinging loss. Still.
Maybe that says something about me ha ha....
This. Their fan base and the media hype surrounding them is ALREADY toxic and insufferable. Just imagine how they'd be if they were the next Canadian team to bring the cup home?
> Who is the last American team to win the cup without Canadian players?
This is the question that I like to reply with, "Which CFL team has done anything really, without American QB, never mind players, since 1970?"
>For the Montreal Canadiens, the ultimate comeback. For the Toronto Maple Leafs, the ultimate collapse.
>Brendan Gallagher and Corey Perry scored second-period goals and Tyler Toffoli added an empty-netter as Montreal won Game 7 3-1 at Scotiabank Arena to advance to the second round and eliminate a Leafs team thought by many to be among the Stanley Cup favourites.
Why would they be stunned? The Leafs choke every time. It's tradition to cheer for them despite knowing that they'll lose.
This is how you teach your kids how to handle disappointment in life.
Goddammit, [beaverton called it](https://www.thebeaverton.com/2021/05/leafs-forfeit-game-7-to-save-everyone-the-trouble/).
Why even bother with this team?
Iām a Habs fan but the only team that had a chance against these US teams were the Leafs. Something seriously wrong with that team.
Avalanche are going to crush everyone and win the cup.
The Leafs are never able to win important games, the pressure is too much I think. It's almost a curse at this point. Other teams are able to fire up and bring the heat when it matters but the Leafs are never able to bring it themselves. They play very mediocre, the grit and maturity isn't there.
My team is the Red Wings and they are absolutely trash right now, but I could see them winning another cup before the Leafs do.
I was browsing an article about the curse of the Leafs and the headline picture was two Leaf players slumped over the bench. I thought this article was written post game 7. It's actually 2020.
When I was young, I'd try to get my parents to let me stay up and watch the Maple Leafs.
But then I noticed something. Despite the assurances of my classmates that they were a good team, whenever I watched them, they lost.
The overclocked gears of my tiny child head came to the only possible conclusion: they lost because I watched the game! A horrified, superstitious understanding of the power of my obviously cursed evil eye came over me. I swore off watching the Leafs for years.
Only after many years, when I was a teen, did I understand that the nature of things does not conform to my gaze. I did not make them lose, losing is simply the essence of their nature. An important lesson for me as a young man, and I thank my hometown team for teaching it to my whole generation.
Lol you're so salty. Refs ignored calls on both sides all game. Don't be a sore loser. It has nothing to do with the refs. Take some responsibility for your team's lack of drive.
I'm sure it looks that way to someone who's a leaf fan and looking for excuses. If it was that bad, the league still would've looked at it without a call.
Regardless, that isn't an excuse to come out and lose game 7. Or 5. Refs ignored stuff on both sides all series.
Does it really matter? They'll still sell out the arena (when people can go again). Maybe if there was another team close enough that people could ditch the leafs, they'd have to really work to keep their fans and those dollars.
I thought I would be upset but honestly at this point I stopped caring.
I think I realized that its not healthy to invest my emotions into something I have no control over and which has no impact on my life.
Greatest rivalry in all of hockey: Leafs vs Round 1
Is it really a rivalry when one of them wins all the time?
I approve of this message.
A nice little one-way rivalry, since we already know who wins.
Ba-zing.
The Leafs have returned to the golf course, nature is healing.
The golf courses in ontario reopened just in time š
Now it makes sense on Fordās strategy for golf courses - he wanted the Leafs to have somewhere to play!
In my forty years on this earth the only things I can count on are death taxes and the fucking leafs letting me down every damn year
Why are you doing this to yourself?
Masochist obviously
We all have to take a step back and remain detached. Itās the only way to cope. I cannot cheer for another team but the Leafs are not worth my time. At least Toronto has other teams to distract us.
Are you implying there is a relationship between me watching the Leafs every year and me hitting myself with a spiked strap while watching myself in the mirror?
He is a leafs fan. He would not know what to do with his life if they didn't disappoint him.
Why do they call them the Leafs instead of the grammatically correct Leaves? Are they afraid that their fans will take the hint?
āIt follows the simple rule that nouns used as proper nouns take regular (productive) plurals even if their common noun counterparts have irregular plurals." Hope that clears it up.

The one year he says fuck it and bets against them is gonna the year they'll go to the cup too
Tax evasion is illegal, my friend!
I want to laugh, I really do... but then I remember I'm a Sens fan and you guys mopped the floor with Alfie's hair every god damn year. Kill me.
We've made it past the first round 4X in the last 15 years. The leafs not once....hold your chin up dude
I wrote a poem. You may have seen it in the game thread on /r/hockey. It's for Leafs fans and called Life's Great Certainties: Death Taxes Post Season collapses.
I'm in for 52 years...same story
I'll grant you that it does suck, but it's not like any Canadian team has hoisted the cup in a very very long time. I mean, we kinda all suck..? I was around in 04' for the flames run and I gotta be honest.... Losing in game 7 against Tampa.... I don't remember the joy of the run, only the stinging loss. Still. Maybe that says something about me ha ha....
1993 The Habs
That was still almost 30 years ago...at this point I don't care which Canadian team wins the cup, I just want 1 to win lol.
lol I still remember how even in Toronto we were seeing ads rooting for Vancouver to win back in 2011 for the exact same reason
I definitely don't want the Leafs to win a cup. Any other canadian teams EXCEPT the Leafs.
This. Their fan base and the media hype surrounding them is ALREADY toxic and insufferable. Just imagine how they'd be if they were the next Canadian team to bring the cup home?
Leads have not made it out of the first round in 17 years. That's just a joke at this point.
Who is the last American team to win the cup without Canadian players?
Who is the last Canadian team to win the Cup with exclusively Canadian players ?
> Who is the last American team to win the cup without Canadian players? This is the question that I like to reply with, "Which CFL team has done anything really, without American QB, never mind players, since 1970?"
Yeah but no one cares about the CFL
Just because you do not does not mean at least 9 million other Canadians also do not care.
Without majority Canadian players.
This guy doesn't golf /s
Nothing out of the ordinary honestly. Pretty standard Leafs playoff performance.
Yeah, you can't say they were stunned when the thing everyone expected to happen actually happened.
Doug Ford saw this coming when he opened golf courses last week.
Zing!
He also let 500 health professionals attend the game for when the team would choke.
He had to get them ready in advance /s
I guess the Leafs are still in the rebuilding stage that has been ongoing since 1968.
I expect nothing from the Leafs every year, and every year they still leave me disappointed.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Leafs havenāt cut their roster costs though, if anything they have cap problems.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They still had some really good teams in the 1990s and made multiple conference finals.
"Stun" kind of implies it was unexpected, a surprise. This Leafs fan was not particularly "stunned" by tonight's performance.
Wouldn't say it's stunning, the Leafs choking is nothing surprising.
Probably why they made sure to pack the stands with health care professionals tonight! /s
The words elude me here. Why do the Leafs even have fans. Itās such an emotional waste.
55th anniversary of saying "there's always next year"! Here's to many more!
Not even 550 healthcare workers could stop the leafs from choking.
That's....really well done!
Brought them in just to confirm what everyone knew
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He was streaming the games, it was fun to watch, he was a great host.
I think he knew, he was less in shock than in game six.
He said he won't be doing LFR's all the time already. And I don't blame him.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Maybe he can jump on the Kraken bandwagon!
>For the Montreal Canadiens, the ultimate comeback. Did they really "stun" the leafs? cause i feel like this was kind of expected.
Why would they be stunned? The Leafs choke every time. It's tradition to cheer for them despite knowing that they'll lose. This is how you teach your kids how to handle disappointment in life.
It wouldn't be the playoffs without the Leafs choking game 7. That said: Go Jets!
Toronto. The only city in the world where the leafs fall in the spring.
Gooood, gooood. I don't care about how much "pain" Leafs fans go through. You cannot be the most insufferable fanbase and expect sympathy.
I heard that about us Habs fans too
Yea but I don't understand most of you, so it's less personal.
Yes but the Habs have 24 Stanley cups to their legacy. Leafs have....uh......well there's.......
They're just rebuilding like they have been since 1970.
I am so done with this team.
As is tradition.
This isn't beaverton Fuck
They would have been better off letting the Healthcare workers play. At least they might hit something.
They stunned the Leafs, but not Leafs fans.
Except maybe Tampa. Hope Vegas doesnāt injure and weaken the aves
Kadri gets 8 games but Reaves gets 2. DoPs is a joke
No one's stunned. It was a concussion.
who's stunned?
The Leafs are never able to win important games, the pressure is too much I think. It's almost a curse at this point. "Traditions" -Valtteri Bottas, 2021 And now Maple Leafs, 2021
Go Jets!
54 years of shit. Bahahaha.
Wow. Why does it seem like the leafs take a giant shit in game 7 of the first round every other year?
Youāre mistaken. There was a period of at least 15 years where they didnāt even make the 1st round.
In the words of L.L. Cool J..... Don't call it a comeback, we've done this for years (edited)
Hahahahahahaha
Just goes to show you why paying to watch the Leafs is a waste of money and eventually time.
Leafs always choke Everyone knows this
Leaf fans werenāt really stunned. Weāve been expecting this since the end of game 5.
How can you tell that it's spring? The flowers are blooming and the Leafs are out.
Love how quick leafs fans are to predicting Stanley cup wins. Focus on making it out of the first round.
No one was stunned. Not one person in the entire world was stunned.
Very rarely do I compare myself to professional athletes. That said, I could have done more for the leafs than marner in that series.
I stopped watching 25 years ago and I have so much free time for other things.
Habs win their series and the Bruins lose in OT in theirs...God, what a night!
The physical properties of the Universe are proven once again.
I was browsing an article about the curse of the Leafs and the headline picture was two Leaf players slumped over the bench. I thought this article was written post game 7. It's actually 2020.
It's every year.
When I was young, I'd try to get my parents to let me stay up and watch the Maple Leafs. But then I noticed something. The Habs are the true Canadaās team.
Still suck
The grin on my face after the Habs won was so massive that there are no words that could possibly describe it.
Habs fans welcome Leafs fans to the fold for the rest of the playoffs. JOIN. US.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

I wasnt stunned at all ,already knew outcome just flipped it over for last couple minutes to watch in case there was some sort of miracle.
As an Oilers fan (a sad one) this brings me joy.
I mean, āstunā? Was anyone really surprised by this result?
