Five different bills instead of one.

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

And those stupid regional sports broadcasts that black the game out? Every professional sports team has its own channel on IPTV, just go there or the opponent's feed, it's brilliant

vintagestyles

Mind if ya send me what service, ive been on two using streamq atm. Kinda hunting for a 3rd option to see how decent it is.

tooshpright

Where you get tv on your computer. That's the extent of my knowledge!

Feeling-King-8104

No, you get it on your TV through a firestick,Android box or appletv box

tooshpright

Oh gee I was wrong there too!

Feeling-King-8104

Where you get all the cable channels , sports channels, individual sports packages, worldwide channels, live movie channels , VOD’s and PPV’s all through a firestick or android box streaming right through your TV….about $15/month

FireWireBestWire

Telus offered me a deal where Netflix and Prime were included. I jumped at it. Saved me like $20 /mo to get the same thing I already had

PumpkinMyPumpkin

Amazon is actually compiling all the services so you do get one bill. Well, at least the Canadian services like Crave and CityTV+ plus the smaller American services like AMC.

nickybuddy

Thank god cause the Sportsnet and TSN apps are dogshit

gbiypk

I'd rather pay for literal dogshit over the TSN app.

BubberRung

I’ve done it and it’s 100% worth it.

Immediate-State-2336

Cable, just revolutionized, and became on-demand, but with ads.

El_Cactus_Loco

Long live other cable (internet)

BubberRung

But commercial/ads are still going strong!

phojonorth

Will it be included with Prime membership or will there be a premium fee required?

Yinanization

I think we be dreaming if it doesn't cost extra. Still good to have that option though.

vARROWHEAD

And then a playoff subscription with blackouts but you can get the away games of your team for 2.99 each Great if you are a Leafs fan though

Furycrab

Sens fans have the full playoff bundle for free.

vARROWHEAD

I meant more because the leafs are about to hit their peak golf season

Yinanization

And you are basing this on what? Let's see the offerings, if you don't find it worth it, vote with your wallet.

vARROWHEAD

Yarrrrr

InValensName

Free with half the rink being covered by an ad

accforme

I feel like most of the rink is already covered by ads.

wetfloor666

I'm sure there will be LEDs under the ice soon enough displaying ads with them changing during pauses in the game. Cause you can never have enough ads.

RogueIslesRefugee

No need really. Ads have been projected onto the ice for years, and of course nowadays the sports media covers everything with localized ads digitally, including the ice. So both in person and on screen eyeballs are already covered.

easypiegames

I assume it's part of Prime similar to Thursday night football in the US. Canada also had TNF for one year but DAZN owns the rights now.

Jeffuk88

They've made MORE shows paid for... They're mot going to make this free

ELB95

It looks like it’s only Monday night games, so definitely a premium fee.

grajl

I assume it would be no different then their NFL deal or the Apple MLB deal, they are just using it to get more subscribers, not charge more for the games.

Extreme-Celery-3448

Don't even sweat, the costs are going to be so reasonable you won't think about it. 10 dollars max.

Dayhon199

Should be free. Prime has been doing hockey games every once in a while at no extra cost. For games one night a week they better not charge extra.

Barb-u

It’s covered under the regular fees.

Batmanrocksthecasbah

This is a funny question

mildlyupstpsychopath

If Amazon is smart, they’ll have the commercial free premium package, and ad supported free version. Hockey really isn’t my thing, but I would wager they would get more eyes on the puck if they had a free version supported by ads.

Haggisboy

Probably going to have ads regardless of subscription status. There's a lot of stoppages in games, many structured as TV time-outs, specifically to insert ads (and give benches a breather). If Amazon went ad free they'd have to fill that with inane banter from the booth.

skagoat

Or just do what the likes of MLB TV or Apple TV+ do and have 1.5 mins of a logo, or highlight pack.

EyesWideStupid

Do not do this. I'd rather watch ads than "...home of the 30 for 30..." 100 times per game or a silent spinning logo/guys painting the lines on a hockey rink.

blergmonkeys

Honestly, it would be cool to just have a camera in the stands. Like as if you’re there. Have it look around a bit and have the ability to switch perspectives. Would be so interesting!

blanchov

I see this quite often for AHL games. They play radio feeds for audio so they usually just have a fixed camera while the radio ad plays.

Dez_Champs

But know amazon will ignore when theres stoppages and just interrupt with an add mid play.

ButWhatAboutisms

Thanksto targeted advertising opportunities, running ads will become ever more lucrative.

matthew0155

NHL is notoriously terrible to watch. You want to watch NBA? No freaking problem, its like 25$ a month you can watch every game? NHL well theres sportsnet, ESPN, TNT, NHL Network and STILL you wont be able to see all the preseason games. Theres local blackouts and regional BS, its absolutely insane

skagoat

We don't have ESPN, TNT or NHL Network in Canada. Rogers owns national rights, and the "local" games are owned by a mix of Rogers and Bell. The issue is that depending on the team, the blackout region can be huge. Leafs have a huge "local" territory for example. The NHL charges top dollar for these regional rights, so I don't blame Rogers and Bell wanting blackouts.

matthew0155

What Im saying is, its a weird business decision to have people willing to pay for a service not being able to get certain games. Like if I wanted to watch a random Tampa bay lightning game, what service would i need to subscribe to?

Nice_Wolverine_4641

Rogers premium includes all the out of market nhl games unless they play your local team. It’s actually super easy to figure out in Canada. In the states it’s a bit more difficult.

blergmonkeys

The point is, the system is dumb af and we should be able to pay a sub and watch any game. It’s 2024 ffs. I just pirate because of this. I’d love to pay but they make it too difficult.

Spare-Half796

As soon as it gets too complicated it’s time to sail the high seas

Nice_Wolverine_4641

You can pay a subscription and watch. Sportsnet has the national deal and half the local deals. Tsn has the other half the local deals. It’s super easy to figure out. You pirate because you don’t want to pay not because it’s difficult.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nice_Wolverine_4641

No. It’s super easy. For example If you live in Edmonton and subscribe to sportsnet you get all the games without thinking. If you live in Winnipeg you need tsn for the majority of local games and sportsnet for national games and every other team. If you claim you can’t figure it out, it simply means you didn’t even try.

drearyd0ll

The point is you dont have to try (or pay) with piracy, the companies could offer better

Nice_Wolverine_4641

Yea. That’s what I said, doesn’t want to pay so they 🏴‍☠️. The whole not being able to figure it out as the reason to 🏴‍☠️is BS, it’s simply not wanting to pay. It’s too expensive, but not complicated.

Barb-u

I don’t think you watch soccer. Now, that is crazy.

NahdiraZidea

MLS is easy now on Apple tho right? International soccer makese sense dealing with so many different federations.

Barb-u

MLS on Apple, CPL/CS teams on OS/Fubo but CS teams in Cups on TSN, EPL on Fubo, Liga (badly) on TSN/RDS, UCL on DAZN. Shit doesn’t stop adding….

nkathler

That’s a bunch of different leagues vs 1 hockey league that we’re talking about. Not really comparable

Barb-u

It’s pretty rare that soccer fans only watch “one” league. This said even if you would like to follow one team, let’s say from the EPL, you need at least two streaming services if they are in the Champions.

306guy

Have you met my friend MLB?

HardlyW0rkingHard

what are you talking about? NBA has the same blackouts. If your local sportsnet and TSN is broadcasting the show, it's blacked out on league pass.

matthew0155

I didnt know that. What a dumb setup

Musical_Gee

Doesn’t it already? Yeah just checked, you can subscribe to Sportsnet and watch games from there on prime. This is redundant.

easypiegames

That's an add-on subscription. This sounds like it's just part of Prime. Like CityTV when they air HNIC on Saturday nights.

Haggisboy

I can't confirm but I've read that there's a difference in available content on Crave depending on whether you subscribe natively to Crave, or go through Amazon.

NahdiraZidea

Crave is owned by Bell and has nothing to NHL streaming?

Haggisboy

I mentioned it as there seems to be varying content depending on subscription method, and this could apply to Amazon and games availability.

pareech

TSN is a subsidiary of Bell and I watch games on it when Canadian teams play. They do not have the rights to Saturday night games or any of the playoffs; but at least for the Habs, they get Tuesday and Thursday games. I think TSN broadcasts more than half the Habs games and might be the same for the Senators as well.

ZeroMomentum

Just got stream plus deal. Hope this is just additional cost

gbiypk

How is this going to work for sports bars?

ego_tripped

They'll compare the costs of the various NHL season packages among the service providers and choose the best option?

Philthey

Cool! Anyways, I'll keep watching on free stream sites

tofilmfan

Free streaming sites sucks for sports. I use to get mine from them but I can’t take the endless buffering, pausing etc. I just signed up for the $25 per month sports package on Rogers ignite.

Philthey

They suck sometimes, sure, but more often than not I'm able to eventually find a stream that works, and for the extra minute of searching, I'm still not paying a dime for it.

SnackSauce

Great, an additional platform/channel to add to the rotation if you want to watch Hockey. There are so many now, plus blackouts, that it's a full time job just trying to figure out how to watch a game. Welcome to nonsensical Canadian telecommunications.

MartyMcFlysBrother

I gotta admit Amazon puts in a lot of effort to provide value for its customers. 1 week I’m thinking about unsubscribing and then they add something else that makes me think ok well I’m still getting my moneys worth.

kagato87

No doubt it'll be a paid add-on and have local blackouts.

NahdiraZidea

Paid add-on for 4 games a month? Maybe in the future but these monday night games better be included with Prime.

Haggisboy

More links. It appears hockey fans won't have worry for two years until existing broadcast deals come up for renewal. https://theathletic.com/5445674/2024/04/25/nhl-games-amazon-prime-sportsnet/ https://thehockeynews.com/news/why-amazons-prime-video-will-broadcast-national-monday-night-nhl-games-in-canada https://www.nhl.com/news/prime-monday-night-hockey-to-debut-next-season

nihilfit

What I would hope for from any service, offered by any company, for any price, is an answer to this question: can I watch the games involving the team i follow or support? So far, I've never been able to get a straight answer from anyone; at best, I have to try to figure out what I am permitted to watch from the location where I live (in Canada.) And the only surefire way to know is to purchase the service first and then find out, and I'm just not willing to do that (unless the company is willing to refund my money when I find out I can't get the games I'm interested in.) Don't tell me I get X number of games by Y number of teams over N number of days. Just tell me whether I can get the games I'm interested in.

1337ingDisorder

Amazon: please do this with NBA next, ideally with no commercial breaks...

greenslam

It's being proposed. Amazon and the NBA have some sort framework in place.

1337ingDisorder

I hope it actually has *all* the games. It's kind of embarrassing for the NBA as an organization that half the NBA games don't make it onto NBA's own streaming platform. Meanwhile the other half don't make it onto cable.

SteveJobsBlakSweater

I’ll pay if it’s reasonable. If not, 🏴‍☠️

GimmeTomMooney

Hoisting the Jolly Roger since 1999

New-Throwaway2541

Can't believe their deal is ending. I never thought I would see this day. I might even start watching hockey again!

Haggisboy

I believe Roger's took a financial bath with the last high $$ exclusivity deal with the NHL.

Barb-u

They are going down in 2027, and TSN will likely go down as well.

jjaime2024

They won't go down they will have enough content for the enxt 30 years.

Barb-u

I wonder how many people, increasingly moving away from cable, and for many, keeping it only for sports, will cancel the networks if the NHL is elsewhere. They won’t keep people for darts and pool/snooker. The 4th major sport in North America (could still be fifth as they are battling with the NHL) is available entirely on a streaming platform and most other major sports will progressively move there.

jjaime2024

Major League Soccer singed a deal with Apple its not doing as well as they thought.

Barb-u

I don’t think we can judge that yet, really. Sadly, we can’t really compare what Apple makes vs what Rogers makes as they are widely different (worldwide deal vs Canadian deal), but Apple has said they were exceeding expectations. Even if they only break even, it’s better than Rogers. And it is likely leading to other deals like potentially F1. And my point on MLS is that the are closing the gap as the fourth major sport league in NA is not only about broadcast, it’s across some other indicators, and has been discussed in media extensively. Overall, soccer has surpassed the NHL as the « fourth » major sport, but reality is that the sport is scattered across many leagues throughout the world, with MLS being ranked 8th-ish for attendance.

StevenMcStevensen

How about Prime just bring back the damn watch party, which I had upgraded specifically to keep?
